Campbell throwing at practice

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, August 30th, 2010 at 11:26 am in Oakland Raiders.

Jason Campbell was participating in a walk-through practice session with the other Raiders quarterbacks Monday, throwing passes of 20 to 30 yards in range, beat writer Steve Corkran reports.

Campbell sustained a stinger and a right wrist injury in Saturday night’s 28-24 loss to San Francisco, with coach Tom Cable saying during a conference call that the wrist injury was of bigger concern with regard to the season opener Sept. 12 against Tennessee.

The Raiders have just three days to prepare for Thursday night’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, with rosters cut to 75 on Wednesday.

Among those who were on the field during the media window (practice is now closed to the media except for warmups and some drills) were center Samson Satele (ankle), Richard Seymour (triceps) and cornerback Chris Johnson (hamstring).

Those not present included wide receiver Chaz Schilens (knee), defensive tackle Desmond Bryant (elbow), cornerback Joey Thomas (concussion), running back Michael Bush (thumb), defensive end Alex Daniels (groin) and defensive end Jay Richardson (groin).

I’ll pass along some post-practice news and notes as relayed by Steve . . .

  • ArmChair GM

Thank goodness. That’s the best news I’ve heard all day. Now if only we can get a similar report about Michael Bush.

  • J Hill

VittorioTafur Raiders practice just a walkthrough — Campbell looks fine, doing everything other quarterbacks are doing

  • RaiderRockstar

    ArmChair,

Mike Bush isn’t needed against the Titans.

let the man rest a week

McFadden, Bennett, Cartwright & Reece = more than enough ammo against thier weak defense

  • inonewordraider

Who gives a better chance against Tenn, Cambpell or Gradkowski?

  • Just Fire Baby

So in summation, JC layed on the turf for a good 5 minutes and got carted off for an injury that would have him miss exactly ZERO days of practice.

    Tough as nails this guy!!!

Hold on there Mr. Hill. I have Murphy and DMAC.

    Please be kind, please.

  • Jonesy941

20-30 for 295yds and 2tds for our top two QBs incredible improvement over last season

  • RNOraiderFan

I sure hope Watkins and Myers are history.

  • DKnight007

I think people panicking about the inconsistent play of McClain in the Niner game should all calm down a bit here. He had 6-7 tackles and 2 assists.

Please remember people….the kid is STILL a ROOKIE.

He is still learning and the Niner game was a good learning experience for him. He will only get better.

  • BigLefty

…………………..last year we had 295 yd games if you add several games together.

  • RNOraiderFan

Last year the team looked soild without a good QB. Now it seems we have two good QBs, but the rest of the team looks soso.

  • DKnight007

Watkins may have earned himself a way out the door in that Niner game. He dropped that game winner in the end on 4th down and he also dropped another pass I believe earlier in that drive.

007, most of the 9ers positive plays were run right at McClain. There is some room for worry, but otherwise I agree with you about the kid being a rook.

rmr said that was because of coverage i saw the ball hit him right in the hands.

  • Jonesy941

im cool with mcclain like you said still rookie he has room to make mistake. post28 thats very true

  • BigLefty

The Raiders play a defense that turns everything towards the middle of the field. You would expect McClain to have a ton of tackles.

Morrison had a ton of tackles.. They just happened to be 5-7 yards down field

McClain has to meet the RB at the line

  • RNOraiderFan

What happened to Houston? The kid was Beast week 1 and now he has dissapeared.

  • ArmChair GM

I’m not sure what game some of you were watching.

Take away the punt/kickoff return and the garbage time TD at the end of the game and SF scores 14 points against our defense, despite the missed assignments, superb game by Patrick Willis, and sacks of Jason Campbell.

The SF Sissies had more false start and offside penalties than we did. We passed the ball against them at will, which is light years ahead of anything that we’ve seen since Gannon retired.

I know we have alot of improvement still to be made especially on the O-Line and Return coverage, but the Niners didn’t even come close to dominating.

If anything, all things considered, it was really more of a stalemate.

Ray Lewis in his prime would not have been that much more effective than McClain on most of those Niner runs. They just laid our D-line down and trampled them; I have seen some awful Raiders defensive lines in my time and this one, was right there with them Saturday night. Please don’t start in on our rookie MLB who is starting from day one. This defense has way too many other leaks.

    Vegas,

Mr. Gradkowski played Well. He was great!!

  • RNOraiderFan

Are the Raiders going to beable to pass like that every week and abandone the running game? I don’t think we have enough QBs for that. Our Oline stinks.

  • itzSteve

so with cut days fast approaching, I only see a few battles left to be won:

WR (1 spot) – Nick Miller, Yamon Figurs, Todd Watkins. I keep waiting for one of these guys to step up on special teams, or make a big catch late in the game.

S (1 spot) – Hiram Eugene or Stevie Brown. I am rooting for Brown as he always seems to be around the ball and I am just tired of watching Eugene out there.

OL (1 spot) – Chris Morris or Eric Pears. I don’t understand why Cable is giving Pears so much run with the first team offense the last couple of weeks but there HAS to be a reason…right? Morris is just terrible at this point in his career.

LB (3 spots) – Sam Williams, Ricky Brown, Thomas Howard, Slade Norris, Travis Goethel. This is still the most contested position on the squad. Special teams will determine who stays and who goes. I am rooting for Williams, Howard, and Goethel at this point.

  • CJ Legend 34

I think they know what Houston can do now so they are cooling his motor or is getting double teamed now?

Just a hunch did not see the SF game.

  • RNOraiderFan

Grads played great, so did Campbell. Could one be trade bait for a C? Pitts anyone?

  • BigLefty

Oh you are so wrong Fatty!

It was M Singeltary that slipped the Ref’s the envelope with some $$$$

How about the 2 “NON EXISTENT” PI calls that were critical in keeping SF drives alive

  • CJ Legend 34

Boy I hope you are right. D Mac has not made a big splash since his play aginst KC his rookie season. I had such high hopes for this guy coming out of college. LOL!!!!

Trade Frye for a refrigerator box to put in the middle of the line.

  • RNOraiderFan

RR, I don’t think the Titan’s D is that weak. Maybe the secondary, but their front four come to play.

  • CJ Legend 34

Whaaaat????Why would you want to do that?
Did you see Campbell hit the ground and get carted out and see Grads come in the SF game and make some big plays. You want that type of back up on your team. I luv our QB situation one of the bright spots of the preseason. We need a center and a blind side tackle but don’t screw up the QB rotation to do it.
