Campbell a spectator

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 at 1:43 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Quarterback Jason Campbell wasn’t participating in practice Tuesday during the 20-minute media window as the Raiders started a shorts and shells workout, according to beat writer Steve Corkran.

Everything appeared to be status quo from Monday. Running back Michael Bush (fractured thumb) was not present.

One player who was not accounted for was tight end Eric Butler, signed Aug. 19.

The Raiders had to cut one player to get to 75 players today.

If Butler was let go, the Raiders are left with three tight ends _ Zach Miller, Brandon Myers and John Owens.

The Raiders normally carry three tight ends on the 53-man roster, but considering they’ve used offensive lineman (most often Erik Pears) as an extra tight end in short yardage situations, it’s conceivable that when the dust clears after the final cut, only Miller and Myers will remain.

More to come later . . .

I simple can’t believe a Raider fan asked me for a link source as to wether Satele played Franklin and the best C in the league.

    Now that is funny….lol

He has started in the NFL for 3 straight years he played Franklin in the preseason last year. He played the NT for the Cowboy’s in the regular season last year, neeed I go on…….. what are these guy’s smoking? Veldheer ganga???

Coaches watch film they knew what they were getting when they got Satele they haven’t drafted a C since he’s been here. They’re using Veldheer for depth………..period same as JLH or W Mcfadden or any other backup player.

That is it and that is all…..

For everyone supporting Veldheer as a better player than Satele at C, please explain the difference in the ability of Bush to find yards in the running game and the difference in the effectivness of our screen game. Veldheer does not finish his blocks in the running game or get to the second level in the run game or on screen passes. He is not ready and if had to play a legitimate starter at NT in the NFL he would have been overpowered and had an even tougher time. In two stints at C he has accounted for at least 3 sacks!!! He is much more natural at the OT position than at C position.

Needs to be more creative than the Cable version from last year, that’s for sure. Well-timed and well-disguised screens, etc. Keep those rushers honest. Encouraging to see them improving on the screen by so much this year. So, with that, I think you’ll get your wish Dknight.

It just frustrates me when I read stuff that is so backwards it’s ridiculous yet they state it with such pomp and circumstance. The scouts are idots the owner is a dumbell we’ll never win until he’s dead. The coaches are fools it really gets my nerves. Then they can’t even describe basic football but everyone actually doing it for a living is stupid.

I’d say Cartwright because I’ve got Bennett at #2, Bush #1 & DMac as a WR.

I guess yu could say that to date, I’m not DMac fan. He hasn’t shown any level of consistency or competency at the RB position. I think he might make an excellent & dangerous WR.

What’s wrong with having a good WR? If he can contribute there why not? He hasn’t done squat at RB. He’ll never be an NFL caliber RB. That requires moves, change of pace and an ability to escape tackles. None or those abilities are in his skill set. He has fast and straight line running, Period…

If you only saw Veldheer make 2 mistakes that tells me that he played an All-Pro caliber game. He made several mistakes, especially in the running game that saw Bush rush for a meager 23 yards on 7 carries. He didnt get to the second level or finish blocks and he missed several calls at the LOS. Im not saying that Satele is the savior, he is a solid C and we need to draft a player that is a center and knows the position, not some rookie that will get overwhelmed and struggled against 2nd team DT 2 weeks in a row. I think that Veldheer would make a great LT because of his pass protection and his kick slide, but he gets no push in the run game and doesnt get a hat on LB’s.

and big hit on JC that he was responsible for.

    ——————————————————

Veldheer didn’t get the QB hit ONE time.

Walker was lined up next to Henderson as an extra OT, and Willis went right through Henderson and Walker. Walker had his back turned and Willis was running right next to him. Absolutely the funniest play of the game.
    ***********************************************

Veldheer has to make that call, that is his resposibilty. He has to get the linemen where they are supposed to be. Thats what satele struggled with last year and has made a vast improvemnt in this year. Thats why our running game struggled this past game against a 2nd string DT.

KK in ansswer to your statement about firing a GM for drafting a C at #8 It would have to be a pretty special player that high. Most C can be had in the 2nd rnd and yu can get a real stud C a great one. One f those 3 C will be available in the 2nd O’Dowd is really good I would love to have that kid. Now he would get me excited and I would nitpik Satele to death looking for a way to get him in there. Wiz goes without saying as well as Pouncey. Those kids are great prospects.

I also would take a flyer on Bradford the HB from SC in the 3rd or 4th. WR’s will be plenty deep in next years draft.

  89. RaiderRockstar Says:

My point is what point are you missing that we shouldn’t be relying on this guy

    ***

I didn’t miss that point. Basically it’s the Raiders fault – not Chaz’s

Chaz only has like 44 career catches in 3 seasons (averages under 15 catches per year) and he’s our #1 ???

We drafted Heyward-Bey and Murphy for a reason. They both started last year. Chaz came in and started (when healthy) towards the later part of the season, same may happen this year. I never said Chaz should be #1 regardless of injury … I just said “stop hating on the guy”

    thats the point YOU MISSED

  90. priesttj Says:

The niners shot their load in a preseason game it was crazy all it did was show the Raiders how to gameplan them. Manusky’s blitzes are very similar to the Cowboy’s he uses Willis and Spikes a lot with sfaties and occasional corners. We can block them up most of the time and get some huge plays. They can’t cover us that much was obvious. If we run on them it’s over….IT’S OVER!!!

  91. severeraiderz Says:

I will say this for Veldheer….i remember him making a nice block on the goalline TD for Bush so it wasnt all bad. I like him and want him to succeed, i would just rather have him oushing Mario at a position he knows than Samson at a postion he doesn’t know and quite frankly isn’t ready to play.

On the play where DMac got blasted by Willis in the backfield for a loss, it was #45 Reese the fullback that looked right at Willis and decided to run around the corner to take on the CB.

It was painful, even worse in slow motion replay.

Yes Reese had a great run created by great blocks, but overall he is week, I’ve seen him “over run” blocks a few times, and has hung the RB out to dry.

I hope we’re not blinded by one good play by the O-line.

Chaz has shown the ability to play at a high level when he has played. That’s all. Sadly for us, that hasn’t been much. But he was a 7th rd pick outta SD and is cheap enough to keep. If he could get healthy you’d have a 6-4 225lb kid with the second best hands on the team who runs a 4.2 and isn’t afraid to go across the middle.
That’s all. He’ll keep a roster spot for it.
The Raiders however likely should have pursued some ins or plan b strategy imo. I was not for getting TO as I think he’s done, is too expen$$$ive and likely not part of the team building plan that I see happening. A better pickup would have been TJHouchmanzada (last year) or Chambers (last year) or maybe Ginn Jr or Arnez Battle this off season.
Or just play McFumble at Wideout. He’s already making the big bucks and I’d like to see him earn it…

Yeah, I expect to see alot more bogus BS penalties this year called on the Raiders, because they will be a better overall football team and if the Raiders have a shot at winning close games….the refs will call some BS penalties to change the momentum and help the other team out.

Watch for it….the refs will rear their ugly heads again this year and will cost the Raiders 2-3 games IMO.

We got a taste of it already in the Niner game…with the BS calls against Nnamdi and W. McFadden and them letting the Niners O-Line get away with holding all over the place.

Plaxico Burress’ work release request turned down

The Associated Press reports former New York Giants Super Bowl star Plaxico Burress has come up short in his bid for work release during his two-year prison sentence for accidentally shooting himself in the leg at a nightclub, prison officials said Tuesday.

The state Department of Correctional Services said the nature of his November 2008 crime merited denying his request for a work furlough, which would have let him spend some portion of his time free and working.

“The serious and negative impact illegal guns have on the community coupled with [the] dangerous nature of the weapon discharging in a public place renders him unsuitable for work release,” the agency said.

Burress’ lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, didn’t immediately return a telephone call seeking comment Tuesday.

The request was Burress’ second since he started serving his sentence last September. He can appeal the decision but otherwise can’t reapply for a work furlough until next June.

Hue needs to implement some more moving the pocket rollout plays within the passing game to protect the QB and buy him more time to throw, because the O-Line is too inconsistent with their pass protection.
    =====================================================

Needs to be more creative than the Cable version from last year, that’s for sure. Well-timed and well-disguised screens, etc. Keep those rushers honest. Encouraging to see them improving on the screen by so much this year. So, with that, I think you’ll get your wish Dknight.

    =======================================================

1.)Moving the pocket doesnt work unles you establish the run up the middle first, this creates the play action neccecary for boot legs.

2.) Rolling the qb out takes away half of the field in terms of available routes for the qb to hit with the pass. Occassionally is ok but you cant have steady diet of this kind of play.

3.) Campbells strength is THROWING FROM THE POCKET, he is athletic, but he is not a running qb. Rolling him too much would be taking away his best asset. Againevery now and again is fine, like elway, or montana used to do it.

4.) The best way to slow the rush is misdirection, reverses, screens, and draw plays. We definitly have the speed at the skill positions to make this happen. Im sure we will see them in the regular season. Iv said it before but the ghost reverse motion( fake reverse hand off) with our guys will slow up any pass rush, remember how well it worked for us under trestman, and we wernt nearly as fast then.

I dont think bringing in another receiver would be beneficial to our team. We have some very young, very talented players that need more game reps. Especially DHB, who I beleive is finding his stride and will be a very good player from us. Bringing in another guy, could take away reps, and destroy the fragie confidence that are guys are building. It is important that DHB learns to deal with the pressure of being number one, he has the talent and the work ethic, he just needs more game time.

    =======================
Silly babbling old fart…the Niners used the EXACT SAME blitz formations from last year….and here you are thinking they just showed a brand new scheme…

Slap a duh on ya, Ebonics boob.

TJ: the 49ers are a PHYSICAL football team, the Raiders aren’t …

that why they beat us on Saturday and thats why they’ll beat us in Week 6.

of course bogus penalties and that TD on special teams helped them out too!

Why is that? EVERY time we’ve won the big one WE were the tough guys on the block. Maybe therein lies some of the problem. We need to be bigger and badder than the opposition. Our strength coaches may need outsourcing.

Yes. I don’t notice any difference between last years D and this years as far as being physical. That Jet game was an embarrassment. I know its pre-season but it seems like the same ole defense NOT being able to stop the run. I’m convinced that the Raiders could switch uniforms with the ‘85 Bears in their prime and STILL not stop the run. It’s embarrassing to get out physically played and get beat up by teams like the Jets and Niners. Is it the D coordinator we have or Cable OR BOTH ?
