Campbell a spectator

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, August 31st, 2010 at 1:43 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Quarterback Jason Campbell wasn’t participating in practice Tuesday during the 20-minute media window as the Raiders started a shorts and shells workout, according to beat writer Steve Corkran.

Everything appeared to be status quo from Monday. Running back Michael Bush (fractured thumb) was not present.

One player who was not accounted for was tight end Eric Butler, signed Aug. 19.

The Raiders had to cut one player to get to 75 players today.

If Butler was let go, the Raiders are left with three tight ends _ Zach Miller, Brandon Myers and John Owens.

The Raiders normally carry three tight ends on the 53-man roster, but considering they’ve used offensive lineman (most often Erik Pears) as an extra tight end in short yardage situations, it’s conceivable that when the dust clears after the final cut, only Miller and Myers will remain.

More to come later . . .

Well, at least we got rid of the your boy Cpt. Kirk

    this year anyways …

    QUESTION:

Who here thinks that Chaz Schillens would be a #1 on any other team?

  • DMAC

If thats true. It won’t be because of the addition of Capt. Kirk.

For everyone supporting Veldheer as a better player than Satele at C, please explain the difference in the ability of Bush to find yards in the running game and the difference in the effectivness of our screen game. Veldheer does not finish his blocks in the running game or get to the second level in the run game or on screen passes. He is not ready and if had to play a legitimate starter at NT in the NFL he would have been overpowered and had an even tougher time. In two stints at C he has accounted for at least 3 sacks!!! He is much more natural at the OT position than at C position.

    :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

Hmmm, do we believe this guy… or Cable, who said Veldheer exceeded expectations.
    ============================================

Veldheer exceeded my expectations as well. Veldheer did some REALLY nice things out there, and really showed some spunk smashing lame Whiners downfield. Still doesn’t make him ready for prime time tho.

    Not likely.

One of the DTs they drafted to replace BIG John was place on IR.

    Kirk hasn’t been a factor!

Guess you haven’t been keeping up with their preseaon?

Schilens = #1 in line at the trainers table.

Too bad because he’s got great potential. Just too fragile for this level of football.

    Redskins cut C Edwin Williams

twitter.com/granthpaulsen/status/22641324460Grant Paulson of 107 the Fan reports that the Redskins cut Center Edwin Williams today. Williams started two games for the Redskins in 2009 but the power-blocking prospect wasn’t a fit for Mike Shanahan’s new zone-based scheme.

Hmmmmm….. JC is familiar with this guy, we are now using a more power running game…. thoughts??

  • DMAC

Who would welcome an Antonio Bryant to the team for a relatively cheap contract?

not 1 MLB and certainly not 1 FS (everybody blaming Huff)

He is HURT!! Do you think the Bengals would cut him and owe him 8 mil. just because? Think about it bro.

Besides, we already have a WR that is ALWAYS hurt, don’t need another. How bout we look for someone that is healthy.

    So Severe …

I’ll throw it back at you. Are you telling me that Satele is mistake free and a better point of attack blocker than Veldheer?

I can point to at least 4 plays in the Chicago game where he made “mistakes”. Coach said Veldheer made 2 mistakes.

The point I think you and Priest REFUSE to accept is no one is saying Veldheer is the next coming of anything. It’s more a commentary on how there are positions on the Oline that need to be upgraded. Whoever the backup is at C, RG, and OT needs to be in there GETTING A LOOK because we KNOW the starters aren’t any good.

  • DMAC

    Raiders Fact:

On December 2, 2002: The Raiders beat the Jets 26-20 on a Monday night in Oakland. Tim Brown caught 8 passes in the game to become only the third player in NFL history to post 1,000 receptions for his career.

Veldheer didn’t get the QB hit ONE time.

Brotha I didn’t say I was saying the same thing as Severe I was letting him know no one would answer him that’s all. And so far no one has.

I got no beef with you guy’s other than when you dislike a player anybody is better than he is, even if they can’t play you just want that player you dislike OUT!! No matter what the coaches think you want him out. So y’all dream up all kinds of crap to justify why he should go. And some of it is so baseless it’s ridiculous. Satele has started for two teams in the NFL for the last 3 years but he’s a bum. Yet the coaches wh get paid to make these decisions keep playing him because they trust him and his ability to get the job done. Call it scholarship or whatever you want they trust him……….period

  • http://www.novolovoshovo.tw St. Jimmy

why in the …. are you guys arguing about Veldheer. He is a rookie, playing an unfamiliar position, in ONE pre-season game. Nothing better to discuss I guess…

  • RaiderRockstar

the Raiders want SPEED from the receiver position

what good is it gonna do to have Chaz out there trying to grit it out with a broken bone in his foot, fresh off a knee operation???

this guy is injury prone, but there isn’t anything he can do about it … are crutches & walking boots allowed on the field?

lay off Chaz man, it’s not like he’s milking the system or dogging it. it’s not his CHOICE to be hurt

If you only saw Veldheer make 2 mistakes that tells me that he played an All-Pro caliber game. He made several mistakes, especially in the running game that saw Bush rush for a meager 23 yards on 7 carries. He didnt get to the second level or finish blocks and he missed several calls at the LOS. Im not saying that Satele is the savior, he is a solid C and we need to draft a player that is a center and knows the position, not some rookie that will get overwhelmed and struggled against 2nd team DT 2 weeks in a row. I think that Veldheer would make a great LT because of his pass protection and his kick slide, but he gets no push in the run game and doesnt get a hat on LB’s.

  • No Mas Diamante

Forget Antonio Bryant. Bringing him in would be like the second coming of Javon Walker fiasco. He’s done…

You are missing my point. We are relying on a receiver considered to be our number 1 who hasn’t played a full season yet, is injury prone, can’t seem to get healthy or stay healthy, wouldn’t be a #1 on ANY other team….. My point is what point are you missing that we shouldn’t be relying on this guy? Sorry if he is your favorite player, didn’t mean to upset you.

    true

Antonio Bryant had 1 good year and that wasn’t last year … plus he’s ALWAYS been a headcase

I remember in Dallas when he threw his helmet at Parcells. Might have a broken jaw if he tried that in Oakland with Cable

Veldheer has to make that call, that is his resposibilty. He has to get the linemen where they are supposed to be. Thats what satele struggled with last year and has made a vast improvemnt in this year. Thats why our running game struggled this past game against a 2nd string DT.

In seattle, we once again have an opponent that we will be seeing during the regular season. This game will be all vanilla. Seattle won’t be so stupid to show there cards like the Whiners did tho.

  • priesttj

KK in ansswer to your statement about firing a GM for drafting a C at #8 It would have to be a pretty special player that high. Most C can be had in the 2nd rnd and yu can get a real stud C a great one. One f those 3 C will be available in the 2nd O’Dowd is really good I would love to have that kid. Now he would get me excited and I would nitpik Satele to death looking for a way to get him in there. Wiz goes without saying as well as Pouncey. Those kids are great prospects.

I also would take a flyer on Bradford the HB from SC in the 3rd or 4th. WR’s will be plenty deep in next years draft.

  • RaiderRockstar

My point is what point are you missing that we shouldn’t be relying on this guy

    ***

I didn’t miss that point. Basically it’s the Raiders fault – not Chaz’s

Chaz only has like 44 career catches in 3 seasons (averages under 15 catches per year) and he’s our #1 ???

We drafted Heyward-Bey and Murphy for a reason. They both started last year. Chaz came in and started (when healthy) towards the later part of the season, same may happen this year. I never said Chaz should be #1 regardless of injury … I just said “stop hating on the guy”

    thats the point YOU MISSED

  • priesttj

The niners shot their load in a preseason game it was crazy all it did was show the Raiders how to gameplan them. Manusky’s blitzes are very similar to the Cowboy’s he uses Willis and Spikes a lot with sfaties and occasional corners. We can block them up most of the time and get some huge plays. They can’t cover us that much was obvious. If we run on them it’s over….IT’S OVER!!!

  • severeraiderz

I will say this for Veldheer….i remember him making a nice block on the goalline TD for Bush so it wasnt all bad. I like him and want him to succeed, i would just rather have him oushing Mario at a position he knows than Samson at a postion he doesn’t know and quite frankly isn’t ready to play.
