    DHB > Crabtree

    —-

SI’s Jim Trotter reports that 49ers players have been put off by Michael Crabtree’s “ambivalence” toward preseason and camp.
Trotter calls Wednesday’s dust-up between Crabtree and Vernon Davis “legit.” According to Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area, the rest of the roster was pleased that Davis called Crabtree out. Said coach Mike Singletary after the incident, “(Vernon Davis) is one of the captains. He did the right thing, but he did it the wrong way. … But I appreciate what he was trying to do.”

Dakota…it’s also true what you say. It’s been a consensus of opinion in Raiders forums and here for years that our OL has been neglected. A focus on drafting/acquiring OL talent (instead of WR/RB/etc) is what’s needed for a number of years and it would improve our RB/WR output far more.

But i still McFadden isn’t a natural RB. What you need in a RB is a low center of gravity, great balance, and has great cutting/juking lateral movement, and powers thru tacklers with his legs.
    _____________________

McFadden simply needs to have an o-line that blocks like they did in 2007. The o-line regressed badly with the aging of Cooper and the additions of Kwame, Barnes, Satele and the rest of the castoffs.

His 2nd catch last Saturday looked Pro Fesh anal.

Still a ways to go however.

I’ll take what he can provide this season in hopes that he’ll continue to improve.

  32. edward teach Says:

I love Gruden, I really do, but I think he’s being a bit optimistic. He mentions some good things about the Raiders, but overlooks a couple of others that in my mind have to be addressed before we can even think of unseating the Dolts, whether they’ve slipped a bit or not. San Diego’s play so far in the preseason suggests that their defense may be average, but their offense may be better than last year even with the two key guys holding out.

We may have the best kicking game on the planet but we can’t return kicks and punts or stop the other team doing so.

Our receivers, albeit young and promising, have yet to show that they can make the big catch when it matters.

We are one injury away (Zach Miller) from the above becoming an even bigger issue than it is now.

The o-line may have a couple of promising rookies waiting in the wings, but both are raw, technique-wise and are at least a full away from being considered reliable.

Cable says he’s satisfied with where the defense has been from an assignment perspective in the run defense, but not happy with the tackling. Just being in the right place is obviously not going to get the job done, and until opposing backs start actually going down when we’re in the right spot I’d think that the run defense would have to remain a concern.

Just a couple of things there, but important ones that anyone “contending” for a division title would want to have addressed by opening day.

  33. RaiderLen Says:

Gruden and Allen where good for the Raiders.

    It’s documented.

  34. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

I’d take an offense with someone like a Galloway, Clayton, Cadillac, etc. Move the chains, speed, nice high percentage passing system, some shots. I would take that over what we have now in a heart beat. HIRE GRUDEN!!

Hey Banana either you can’t read or you can’t comprehend what you’re reading. I never said the Oline was VASTLY improved I said the DEFENSE was vastly improved. The Oline is simple more of a known factor going into opening day Mario has a year under his belt Satele has been with us a year now and it’s more settled. If you can’t comprehend a simple paragrah like that you shouldn’t be in here arguing with anyone.

If you can’t comprehend it then noneed for further comment from you.

I wanted Bush to start last year while most everyone in here wanted DMC. If a grown man can’t understand the diference between two fresh face rookie starting at WR who now have a year in this system and in the league then you’re just flat out ignorant.

BTW it goes without saying at this point that both QB’s are light years ahead of Russell everyone including myself has said so many times. What’s your point. Other than the one on top of your head Banana. WE’ve all moved on 4 months ago. It’s a dead issue.

McCoy worked with Gruden back on March 17th.

Gruden worked with Oklahoma’s Sam Bradford, Florida’s Tim Tebow and Notre Dame’s Jimmy Clausen in other segments.

During McCoy’s session, Gruden uses a lot of video of New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees to draw comparisons.

McCoy told the Austin American-Statesman that after the visit, he and Gruden became friends and decided to go fishing on the next Fire Football Coaches Association (FFCA) event.

    Priest,

I would be a little careful with “I told you so’s” this early in the game. The Raiders have looked good on paper before, and unless I’ve missed a game or two the regular season hasn’t started yet.

I’ve never been one to dog Tommy Kelly, because we never really had anybody next to him (or behind him) that was worth a damn. We (and he) have that now, and it will be up to him to prove that he can do the things that people say he can.

I’m optimistic, but we still have an annoying tendencey to not tackle well, and one or two plays in the NFL can mean the difference between a win or a loss. We get that fixed, and Tommy plays like we all hope he can, maybe we’ve got something. Gotta see it first, though.

No they didn’t. If Gruden and allen rebuilt the Raiders then 3 years ago we would have had 5-10 excellent players playing in their primes. We had no one. Except Jano. Gruden and Allen drafted unbelievably poorly, developed no one and then filled the roster with aged over the hill vets. If you don’t believe me look at our roster in 2005-2006. And then look at Tampon Bay’s roster last year.

I’d have the Raiders open with Mike Mitchell and everyone else in the box against the Titans. Leave the DBs on an island and make them beat us w/o C. Johnson. Any other strategy and I’m afraid he runs wild.
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
agreed 100%, the pass offense of the titans isnt all great and they definitely aren’t better than our pass defense. we need to dare em to pass and just put 8 in the box the whole time.

if campbell or gradkowski can handle the game and not turn the ball over and the raiders just focus solely on shutting down chris johnson the whole time then i think we have a definite chance to win.

I’m not making any predictions my friend but I am saying that TK is a hell of lot beter than anyone in here gave him credit for. That much is obvious to a blind man. Seymour himself has already said that he thinks they can be the best DT tandem in the league. I didn’t say that Richard Seymour did, so I’ll say as many I tld you so’s as I can from that standpoint everyndy wanted some fat slob. I kept telling them in a 4/3 if TK got his weight down he’d be a lot better I think Seymour is heavier than he needs to be right now.

SnB said Kelly was an Al Davis type player that shouldn’t be in the league ghis talent was overvalued. He said that T Howard had zero value…ZERO VALUE!! and that is my point we have a ton of baby GM’s spreading the word as if what they say is FACT!!

All Grads does when he is playing QB for the Raiders, is MAKE PLAYS!

Grads is a keeper as competition for JC and the main backup until he proves otherwise.

Grads has solid footwork in the pocket and more than anything he has solid POCKET AWARENESS and knows how to find the open receiver.

    He also can read defenses.

He has certainly developed and has let the flow of the NFL game come to him.

  133. edward teach Says:

    Priest,

I was criticized in here by a number of people for saying that Kirk Morrison was a terrible middle linebacker, and the worst I’d ever seen at that position against the run, so I understand your feeling justified when the professionals actually vindicate what you’ve been saying all along.

I hope that we get to see Tommy Kelly make a good showing this year. He certainly has a better supporting cast than he has in the past. We could use a little fearsomeness from our defense.

  134. J Hill Says:

Doesn’t really matter who the QB is at this point. It’s all going to hinge on the Oline play.

We all know Henderson, Satele, and Carlisle are going to head scratching plays out there. Let’s just hope the penalty, rag doll, or sack don’t get our players injured, or it doesn’t bring back some huge 1st down.

The Cowboys have received inquiries about wide receiver Sam Hurd’s availability, according to Todd Archer of the Dallas Morning News.

The Cowboys are surely listening and we can’t imagine it would take much to get Hurd.

Hurd is a fine special teamer, but he’s buried deep on a talented Cowboys wideout depth chart. Archer suggests the Raiders Rams and Chiefs as possible teams that could look to Hurd to bolster their receiver depth.

Hurd is due $1.759 million this year, which should soften any trade market for him.

I think he is ready. Pro Bowler from day 1? Hardly! Expect to see some rookie mistakes as well. But IMO, he can’t be worse than the OTs we have now, and looks good enough now to expect him to improve.

Makes no sense to keep him or BEAST Campbell on the bench with the guys ahead of them CONSTANTLY on blast from the coaches. Well Henderson is that is, but I’m sure you will agree that Carlisle is OBVIOUSLY in need of being replaced.

I expect Veldheer to be starting for us no later than week 4 somewhere, and it should be opening day.

I have to agree with you on Carlisle in fact IMO if I were a betting man I’d say he’ll be the first to get replaced as son as they’re comfortable with Campbell’s recognition of his assignments. That’s where I think the coaches see the biggest need.

  198. Bauce 4 Real Says:

BHP………..Tommy Kelly looked decent the last 2 weeks….but why? He was playing UT where his skills are much suited to help this defense. Des Bryant at NT is a joke. Sorry a 290 lb NT will get destroyed in the NFL. If people dont wanna start Big John….fine but dont come crying during the season if the run defense still lets some RBs run for damn near 200 yards. Big John doesnt get pushed backwards and if you notice the LG never gets to get to 2nd level that much to smack the LB……that is the job of the run stuffer. Hopefully Raiders dont do anything stupid and cut him becuz we will pay dearly for it but if they keep him which they should you will see what I’m talking about. You think for this upcoming week 1 matchup with Tenn Big John wouldnt help out? He didnt play CJ2K four times the last two years? Come on man

It was a very close, entertaining game, like I thought it would be. A statistical dead heat. Hope JC and MB are ok. That’s the big thing.

Got faith in Grads though. More importantly, obviously the team does too. He looked very impressive.

Patrick Willis is just a monster. He has surpassed Ray Lewis as best in the biz,IMO.
SF was killing the Raiders and their rookie center with thos A gap blitzes. Blowing up DMac runs in the backfield. They did the same vs. Favre and the vikes prev.

Overall, pretty even teams. I think Oakland can take those guys in rematch when it counts. Even with Crabtree,V Davis, et. al.

  238. KoolKell Says:

The Raiders are Ranked 30th, giving up 135 yds per game on the ground this pre-season.

That should worry any Raider Fan, considering their history.

  239. buckeyeraider Says:

I thought on Gore’s big run, Iupati the guy I hoped the Raiders would draft, got away with a hold on McClain. He did a nice job, chipping on the DT then getting to the MLB. I though Rolando was in position to make a play but Iupati held him. He also had two false starts, but overall I think he’s going to be a good one.

Then Huff compounds the problem by not wrappin up. Unlike the Forte run he didn’t whiff. He actually gave Gore a pretty good shot. Most backs would’ve probably gone down. Gore is a pretty good back, with a low center of balance. He made a nice play. The other guys get paid too.

Overall, I think the Raiders run D is going to be much improved. Both L Houston and Shaugnessy seem to hold the edges well. Kelly is in shape and motivated. Getting the physical and nasty Seymour back instead of the ivy league kid( who looks like a player, more of an interior pass rusher though) and the Raiders will be fine.

  240. raidersxy Says:

    Scouts inc. Player Ratings.

QB Jason Cambell ranked 18th among all active QB’s

Comment: Campbell can power the ball into tight windows or get it deep on long throws as well as showing good touch on shorter routes. He has improved his vision and ability to read defenses over the past three seasons. He runs well for his size and position. He has improved his improvising but needs to continue to improve in this area. Campbell has all the tools to be an excellent quarterback in the NFL and should continue to improve.

TE Zach Miller ranked 10th among active TEs

Comment: Miller has led the Raiders in receiving for the past two years and is generally the first receiver his quarterback looks to for clutch receptions. He has the speed to stretch the secondary down the seam and also has the size to go across the middle and catch the ball in traffic. Miller shows quickness and agility on his release and can be difficult to jam or re-route. He has soft, natural hands that allow him to reach out and pluck the ball and consistently puts the ball away quickly. He is not a dominating blocker, but Miller will maintain position and work his blocks well enough to stay in the way.

    OG Robert Gallery ranked 11th

Comment: Once considered a bust, Gallery has moved from left tackle to guard and seems to have settled into a comfortable situation. He has started in 79 of his 80 career appearances, although he did miss 10 games in 2009 with a lower back injury. He is not a natural knee bender and really needs to work on keeping his pad level down to leverage his blocks. He will struggle when it comes to redirecting and realigning himself in space as he lets his center of gravity get too high. Gallery has improved his hand use and can control and steer opponents. Gallery will show the kind of temperament needed to sustain and finish blocks off.

Richard Seymore ranked 10th as a DE who knows about DT

Comment: After spending his first eight years in the NFL with the New England Patriots, Seymour was traded to the Raiders prior to the 2009 season. He played in and started all 16 games for the Raiders in 2009 and finished with 47 tackles and four QB sacks. He provided the defense with a much needed spark and is a defensive lineman who needs to be accounted for when game-planning. He showed the ability to play both on the outside as a defensive end as well as inside as a defensive tackle.

    DT Tommy Kelly ranked 25th

Comment: Kelly is a massive interior defensive lineman who can stack things up at the point of attack but will struggle to make plays down the line of scrimmage. He is not a natural knee-bender and tends to play a bit tall, causing him to lose leverage on blockers. Kelly has long arms and shows good hand use to keep blockers at bay and to shed and disengage. He shows surprising quickness off the ball and can penetrate to create problems in the backfield but lacks great lateral range and agility. He needs to work on consistency when it comes to competitiveness and hustle when chasing to the sidelines or downfield.

    RB Darren McFadden ranked 29th

Comment: The fourth overall pick in the 2008 draft, McFadden has been a part-time starter for the Raiders. The former Arkansas star has shown flashes of brilliance, but he has struggled to play a complete season. He played in 13 games as a rookie and 12 games in 2009. He gained 357 yards last season. McFadden has prototypical measureables for the position and can hit the hole with a big burst of speed. He is not a real compact runner, which makes breaking tackles a struggle. He can make people miss in the open field and has the kind of speed that can turn a short gain into a long touchdown. He has to learn to be patient to allow the holes to develop. McFadden needs a lot of technique work when it comes to blocking.

    RB Michael Bush ranked 38th

Comment: Bush is a big, powerful ball carrier who has surprisingly quick feet and agility when running between the tackles. He lacks the kind of lateral speed and range to be real effective running to the outside on a consistent basis. Bush has enough wiggle and shake to make people miss or at least not get a solid shot at him. He runs with a good pad level and shows good vision as he allows the play to develop. Bush can be difficult to bring down once he gets a head of steam going and has just enough speed and feel for angles to be a threat to hit some long ones every now and the n. He does a good job of keeping his feet alive and moving in order to gain positive yards after contact. He is an effective receiver out of the backfield and can make the first man miss after the catch. Bush still needs work on his blocking technique and vision to pick up blitzing linebacker when he stays in for pass protection.

    OT Mario Henderson ranked 70th

Comment: Henderson is a massive offensive lineman with above average initial quickness, agility and lateral range. He took over the starting left tackle position in his third year with the Raiders and shows promise. He has long arms that allow him to control and steer opponents when he uses proper technique. Henderson has a tendency to get a bit lazy and keep his hands down low too often. He is a natural knee-bender who can keep his pad level down to leverage blocks, but Henderson does not show a lot of leg drive and does not finish blocks off as well as he could. He is more of a finesse blocker than a competitive hard-hitting blocker and could use a bit more fire in his play.

  241. edward teach Says:

Thanks for the insight, Buckeye. Glad you saw that Iupati hold on McClain; I saw it too and was a little surprised when some in here were giving Rolando a hard time about not making the play.

I hope you’re right about the run defense. We seem to have gotten some guys in (and out) of here and upgraded, personnel-wise in that department. It would be great to see those moves pay off once everybody’s on te same page.

  242. buckeyeraider Says:

Speaking of holding though, Iupati’s was nothin. Anybody watch espn NFL live earlier today? They are profiling a division per day. Did AFC East. The former Cowboy safety I believe, pickerd NYJ RB Shonn Green as the breakout player for this year. They showed a highlight vs. Oak from last year. NYJ in ugly throwbacks. Dude literally rips Seymour’s jersey off right at point of attack. Could’ve been Kelly. Couldn’t tell. Jersey was ripped completely off. Shoulder pads floppin out, gray T-shirt exposed.

Right in front of the ref. They were wearing AFL red and white. Unfreakinbelievable. WTF do Raiders have to do to get a call?

Just wanderin if anybody else saw it.

  243. J Hill Says:

    Wassup Buckeye and ET!

The Gore run was disturbing on a few levels, but I’m not really trippin it.

Seymour wouldn’t get handled like Bryant did. I think McClain is able to get in much better position with Seymour in there.

You’re right, nice shot laid by Huff that takes most RBs down. Completely different issue than the Forte run.

  244. KoolKell Says:

On Gores TD run, it seemed to me Mcclain couldn’t get off the block. The same with the DT.

  246. KoolKell Says:

#90 Des Bryant, looked like he was consistently getting over-powered.

  247. KoolKell Says:

So far as Huff’s concerned, it’s a lot easier to throw a shoulder at a passing RB, than to stick your face in there and wrap up with your arms.

  248. priesttj Says:

Great job Buck way to come through with the analysis.

  249. buckeyeraider Says:

Priest, it sounds to me like you’ve seen enough of Cooper Carlisle at RG. Last week you were urging patience with Big Bruce at RG. Now it sounds like you think he might be in there sooner rather than later.

CC might be a serviceable backup. A wily veteran coming off the bench in case of emergency. However, he is aging, undersized and on his last legs. No push in running game. Seems to get overpowered way too often.

I, like many others in here would be willing to live with B. Campbell’s growing pains. Not sure about his level of competition, but I’ve been impressed. No penalties or glaring mistakes. Seems to get a push in ground game. I’d like to have seen him get some action vs. starters.

JLH is by far your best slot WR……you guys wanna cut him over PR schit? Maybe yall forgot about his catches this preseason or the fact that Chaz seems to be on the shelf until at least October…..who is gonna be your slot WR? Ford? Too funny. Guy isnt better than JLH at all! Nikki Minaj Miller? Shut up….sorry to say this but you GUYS show your GREAT WHITE HOPE love with that crap! He is not Wes Welker and every short white guy that plays WR isnt Wes so please go choke on something

I would love to hear what is so great about JLH that I am not aware of. He was a good punt returner 2 years ago, was is the key word. If you seriously don’t think the Raiders are better off bringing in a Patrick Crayton type you are clearly dilusional. I challenge you to tell me why the Raiders need JLH. The Raiders are better off using DMAC in the slot. BTW what is this PR junk you are talking about regarding JLH? Michael Huff is a starting safety in the NFL. It’s his job to “stick his face in there and wrap up”. Of course it’s easier to throw a shoulder, but that’s not what he’s getting paid to do.

Ask Bob Sanders, Troy Polamalu or Ed Reed about their approach. Or, for that matter, Jack Tatum, Vann McElroy or Rod Woodson.

Wauffle is the one who will decide if he wants him, because he will have to put a fight for him and I mean literally. Because Marshall is going to want to keep those LB’s and those kids in the secondary are steals. Ware and McFadden should’ve gone much higher.

On Offense Jackson aint letting go of those young WR’s like Ford. You only saving grace is if we keep one FB and the rest on PS.
    ******************************

BHP…..Ford is on active gameday roster for sure but JLH is slot WR for this team and YOU KNOW IT…….they should keep 2 FBs….Reece and Tonga if they are smart but sometimes we dont show ability to be smart with our roster moves…FARGLASS a great example

    ————————
keep 2 fullbacks? what a waste! Keep 4 RB before you keep an extra FB. Cartwright could fill in for Reese if neccasary.
Waufle not deciding in the end BHP and you know that. Al will do so and if Al and staff wanna have a better shot at stopping the run then Henderson stays plain and simple

    ——————————–
A weak ago Gruden wouldn’t touch anything Al Davis was involved with according to your dumb ass.

    …………..

Gruden doesn’t want to be a puppet, that’s for sure. I think he’s trying to work his way here again and do what he did the last time he was here. I’m sure control issues would be worked out before he signs anything, and if the terms aren’t right it’s not happening. Gruden wants to coach here, but doesn’t want to be a puppet like Tom Cable. Gruden gets this game more than Al Davis does, and he knows it. He wants to come here and coach, not take orders. Otherwise, I don’t think he’ll come. Gruden does not come to Oakland to be Al’s flunky.

Not only great hands, but great field awareness. He was great at reading defenses, and knowing where the sidelines and first-down markers were.

bro watch the vid and watch how he reads a blitz and conveys it to the qb and scores a td that play. great all around wr, and definitely a first ballot hall of famer.

What do you think of our Fullback situation. Alot of people bash our rbs but i think they are all talented our horrible Oline and below average fullbacks dont help them out at all.

I love the FB we have now I know he’s not the conventional rockhead. But he is a big play waiting to happen I’ve been waiting for this kid to be utilized in some fashion because in college he was so dynamic. Now they have found a place for him which i think is perfect. He’s an OK blocker but everything else is superb. Marcel Reece will be a probowl FB I gaurantee it.

No, haven’t seen it. But Tony Richardson is old, I’m not suprised the Jets are possibly releasing him. Shoot, we released Lorenzo Neil last year.

  322. priesttj Says:

Richardson may be able to help Reece understand lead blocking a little better. I don’t tyhink he will ever be the best at it but he can be very good. His other attributes are so awesome it outweighs any shortcomings in that area. No one has a FB with his speed and agility and hands.

  324. KoolKell Says:

If you look at the game again you’ll notice it was Langston Walker playing LT on the Patrick Willis sack, with 11:00 minutes left in the 2nd.

    What’s up with that?

  325. priesttj Says:

KK what is it you want me to see?

  326. KoolKell Says:

Walker playing LT, on the sack of Campbell with 11 minutes left in the 2nd.

  327. priesttj Says:

He’s not playing LT he’s playing OT eligible like a TE they running the heavy package. Because the niners were bringing LB’s off that edge. Mario was actually the LT.

  328. KoolKell Says:

Oh, ok. I’ll check that out again. There was confusion on the O-line.

  329. KoolKell Says:

    Gnite Gentlemen.

  330. priesttj Says:

P Willis came on a delayed blitz and both Bush and Walker had turned to execute other assignments and didn’t see him it was well conceaved by the niners. It happens.

  331. priesttj Says:

Now you guy’s will see why the Raiders didn’t want Michael Crabtree. Vernon Davis just called the little diva out and Singletary endorsed it.

  332. Raider O Says:

    -Start Branch at FS.
    -Start Mitchell at SS.
-Let Huff play NB, CB, and FS on passing downs, and let Branch play SS.
-Keep TH, and let him play on passing downs as a cover LB.
-Let Routt, CJ, Huff, and Mcfadden compete for CB and NB.

    -Start Walker at RG.
-let Veldheer compete with Satele a C. Maybe he can start mid season.
-let Barns & Campbell compete for RT, and I think Campbell will start by game 6.
-give Bush 18+ carries, and give DMC the rest of the carries and pass it to him no less than 5 times per game.
-let Ford play more so he can develop faster, and make him our KR and let him compete with JLH for PR.
-run DMC outside 5+ times per game.

  333. Raider O Says:

We should run Bush up the mid and try to pound the DL for a few drives, with DMC being a 3rd down back. Then let DMC run outside, and use him in pass situations to match him up against LBs. They can’t keep up with his speed.
DHB, Murphy, and Chaz (if he can get healthy) are good young WRs, and I don’t think we should add more WRs till we fix the OL. Getting a WR grim FA to be our 6th WR instead of Miller/ Watkins/ etc.. is not a bad idea.

We should add PL help after the final roster cuts.
We should also sign a FB (known for great blocking) to play with Reece.

  334. priesttj Says:

    Raider O

I can’t understand what you’re trying to say about Huff he can only play one position at a time. They are grooming Campbell for the RG position.

  342. ENGLANDRAIDER Says:

Bo Jackson was in the booth last week telling the Nation…I’m a “Raider ’till I die!”
And that is clearly the sentiment of Jon Gruden.

He didn’t say we WOULD win the division, he said we COULD win the division and given the state of it and the schedule it’s entirely possible.
Personally, I think we’ll get around eight wins but it could be 7 or 9.
It was interesting when Gruden talked about the quarterback. He didn’t just emphasize the importance of Campbell but also wanted to talk about Grandowski.

Does Gruden want to come back? Why not? Al’s going to need a full time General Manager before long.
You could do a lot worse Al.

    Later Brother Raiders!
    RAIDER ‘TILL I DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  343. GG Says:

Gruden is a good coach but he’s not that good of a talent scout, and nor is his talent scouting synonymous with Al’s — which is probably something Al will want his successor to maintain, a “raider way” (al’s way), that way he’s still involved in the raiders long after he’s dead.

Gruden is all about football IQ in players even if they’re athletically lacking. Al is all about athleticism even if they’re lacking in football IQ. Obviously too much of one isn’t good.

  344. 860Todd Christensen Says:

Revis is still a “no show” for the Jinks, when is this guy gonna get it?

    *********
Lets not for get that the 0-16 Lions were the only 4-0 team in preseason that year.

That said, it should be a concern to the Raider Nation that we dont appear to have any tangible improvement in stopping the big play. I dont say stopping the run because if you take away the few big plays we are only allowing about 3.5yds per run. Thats pretty solid. But then there are the head scratching meltdowns where we let a guy scamper for 89 yds

Russell & Garcia = both out of work now

Raiders & Bucs = both drafted in the Top 10 this year

I don’t think thats how Jon Gruden wants his coaching legacy to end!

Tom Cable is on the hot seat, so if Gruden keeps kissing Al’s rings he may get another go as HC here

unless Cable makes good on his word that the 2010 Raiders are a playoff team (both lines are suspect, thats putting it kindly)

nine QB’s in Gruden’s training camp sounds bout right, no?

I thought about adding McClown … Jon G owned his brother Luke in Tampa

  370. RaiderRockstar Says:

Safety Michael Huff plans to pull aside some of the young players before and after tonight’s preseason finale against Seattle for a sobering pep talk. He thinks Raiders coach Tom Cable is going to have some tough cuts to make Saturday, and players need to prepare themselves.

“You can see it everywhere, guys making plays,” Huff said. “I try to tell the young guys about the business side of things. You never know what’s going to happen, you never know who’s going to get cut. It’s nothing personal, it’s just what happens in the NFL.”

Oakland’s depth is better than it has been in years, and Huff thinks some guys don’t realize their neck is on the chopping block.

“Oh, there’s definitely going to be some eye-openers, but that’s what goes with being a good organization, being a team that has quality depth and great players,” Huff said. “There’s always going to be competition, and there’s going to be players that could start for other teams but because we have so much depth here, they won’t be able to play here.”

Huff and the rest of the starters won’t play much tonight.

    -Vittorio Tafur (SF Gate)

  371. RaiderRockstar Says:

Quarterback Jason Campbell, still recovering from a stinger and sore wrist, probably won’t play at all, though Cable won’t confirm that.

There are two starting jobs open, with Samson Satele trying to hold off Jared Veldheer at center and Stanford Routt trying to unseat Chris Johnson at cornerback.

“It’s not like in years past,” Cable said, “when it was fairly simple to (glean) who that 53 would be. And that’s a good problem, really. We’re more competitive that way and, certainly, improved this football team that way.”

At receiver, it seems as if Todd Watkins and Nick Miller need to make some plays against the Seahawks to get back on the bubble, as Yamon Figurs, Jacoby Ford and Johnnie Lee Higgins seem to have an arm up. The kick return game has been terrible this preseason, so a nice runback would be a quick way to Cable’s heart.

And linebackers Slade Norris, Quentin Groves, Ricky Brown and Sam Williams have to be looking at each other sideways every now and then. They won’t all be on the roster come Saturday night.

    -Vittorio Tafur (SF Gate)

  372. RaiderRockstar Says:

Michael Huff’s speech to Hiram Eugene, Jerome Boyd, Joey Thomas & Joe Porter …

“pack your bags boys. good luck in the UFL”

  373. Bob Marley Says:

They say the Bears are looking to trade TE Greg Olsen (6′5 250 and as fast as some WR’s) I’d love to take on that guy, with no WR help available out there, Olsen would be a great target alongside Zach Miller.

We could use a lot of 2 TE sets since we don’t really have a top-notch FB, Miller and Olsen would be a matchup problem for any defense and it would prevent opponents from doubling Miller all the time.

Very unlikely to happen but it would be a great move, imo.
