    ……………………………

Higgins is a below-average soft NFL player at best, the guy has done nothing in the league in 3 years except from a few return TDs a few years back, he would be cut today in all 31 teams except Oakland

    Enjoy your half-brain

V, the starting center makes sense at this time. Gallery with his experience to V’S left and Carlisle to V’S right with experience, will be able to help out with the protection calls and as vets also can adjust on the fly. IF V MAKES A MISTAKE, which he will, until he has more than a few games under his belt, will be not as bad with experienced players on the line.

I’m surprised by Loper, must of missed something. Loper never showed much in the pre season games I watched.

Satele will become our Chris Morris, he can place both guards, and center.

Morris, was back up long snapper and short, there must be a back up, I havent seen, other than Zach Miller.

Dangerous proposition to have, in case he needs to replace Condo with an injury.

This Loper kid is another guy I didn’t see coming until the Seattle game. But he can play and he’s a vet I think we may have an Oline that the coaches feel comfortable with. And let them grow into a cohesive unit, that’s when they’ll be at their best.

Raider game day usually suit up 8 O lineman.

So versatility, is important due to an injury during the game.

    Henderson>>>>LT
    Carlisle>>>>>RG
    Campbell>>>>>RG

Those lineman above have to be replaced and have positions coverd with the following:

    Gallert>>>>>>LG,LT
    Veldheer>>>>>C, LT
    Walker>>>>>>>RT, LG
    Satelle>>>>>>C,RG,LG
    Loper>>>>>>>>LG, RG, RT, LT
    Barnes>>>>>>>LT, RT
    Pears>>>>>>>>TE, RT, LT

Campbell with the least experience, will be on the roster, but rarely suited up for game days.

You have the harsh comments coming your way. You always feel, your right and know more than any of us who frequent this blog.

The part that PO’s the blog is when, you call people with different opinions than yours, IDIOT,MORON, STUPID, AND DON’T KNOW WHAT YOUR TALKING ABOUT, AND YOUR, flippant retorts, I know the employees at 1200 Harbor Parkway, and you source them all the time.

  63. priesttj Says:

OK let me worry about it…. I know what I’m talking you’re listening to a coach talk to a member of the media. Go talk to a DC who’s been around and they’ll ALL tell you playing DT in a 4/3 is very different from playing DT in a 3/4. Ask anyone!!

  64. DirtyRaccoon Says:

While the Detroit Lions’ coaching staff continues to maintain there is no depth chart, free agent Daniel Loper is getting an awful lot of time at left guard with the No. 1 offense. In his four-year career, Loper has just one career start (a 2007 playoff game), but the Lions viewed him as a starter as soon as they signed him.

Loper played for the Tennessee Titans so Lions head coach Jim Schwartz knows him very well. Schwartz has repeatedly said that Loper was capable of playing any of the guard or tackle spots but there was always somebody just a little bit better in front of him.

That hasn’t been the case with the left guard spot in Detroit, which has been a revolving door for several years. Loper will have to continue to prove that he belongs in that position – and reject some notions that a veteran tackle might get moved inside. Loper has some positives, though. At 6-6 and 320 pounds, he has the size to deal with the bigger defensive tackles in the league and, because of his abilities as a tackle, he’s a better pass protector than most guards.

There could be some shuffling along the offensive line before training camp is over and the only guy who looks like he has a job nailed down is center Dominic Raiola. Loper, like the rest of the “starting” crew will have a lot to prove when camp starts.

  65. Just Win Says:

It’s a great Saturday to be a Raiders fan. Isn’t it?

I don’t get what all the arguin’s about re: Campbell vs Grads…Campbell’s earned the starter’s job. He stays the starter until he either a) gets hurt, or b) plays the team to a poor record.

It’s not conceivable to me that JCampbell will hold this Offense back…but it is more than likely that he will become injured, even for just a few plays, this season.

The thing about Campbell and Grads is they both know the Offense well, and both have the Offense responding to their individual styles and skills.

We’re a fortunate team @ starting QB. What a thing to be able to say, finally. Barring a complete meltdown, JCampbell will hang onto the role until and unless he gets hurt…then, if Grads plays well, and the team wins, it’ll be tough to sit him. Win-win, baby.

In Fact that IMO is what saved Big John Henderson it’s obvious the Raiders are going to play a lot more 3/4 alignment. Otherwise there is no reason to keep Big John over Joseph. Unless the 3/4 was going to be a huge part of the scheme this year.

They can go with Houston TK and Seymour front3 or Houston Big John and Seymour. While big John aint going to provide much push he can hold the point. It makes a lot of sense.

come on workerb, you are now beginning to come off crazy like pedochet. I hope JLH catches 60 balls and ten scores and the Raider run defense is top 3 with Henderson starting and the team goes 12-4. But what I have seen is JLH and his 15 receptions a year picking right up where he left off, and John Henderson getting NO PUSH. Which means, as soon as 79 comes in, they audible to a pass play, wait 25 seconds for someone to uncover while John catches his breath, and pick us apart. (See TD pass Whiner preseason game.)

You are probably right. John Henderson might be the best short yardage DL in the league. But with the league moving more and more to the passing game, Henderson better improve his pass rush skills or become extinct.

He’s not expected to be the focal point of this Offense, so he just needs to perform when called upon. This is the time for the game to “click” for young WR’s, and if it does for JLH he’ll be great. I’d hate to see a talent like JLH go breakout for someone else.

Derrick Burgess done in New England
Posted by Michael David Smith on September 4, 2010 5:15 PM ET
The New England Patriots have seen enough of Derrick Burgess.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Patriots will cut Burgess today.

The 32-year-old Burgess had five sacks last year, his only season with the Patriots. Although he recorded 16 sacks in 2005, Burgess has steadily declined as a pass rusher since then and become even more of a liability against the run.

Albert Breer of the Boston Globe pointed out after the preseason finale that the Giants consistently had success running at Burgess, and that he wasn’t generating much of a pass rush, either. And now he’s done in New England.

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I sure hope they’re at least taking their best shot at him. He would come in and immediately be our most reliable reciever, other than miller. If we do bring him in, I would have no problem saying so long to figurs, nick miller or even JLH – he hasn’t been anything close to ‘08 since ‘08. TJ to the Raiders, get it done!!!

Naaa Hobs. Just stating the facts. New England Idiots traded a 3rd rounder and a 4th I believe for that crybaby Burgess. One of the great modern day football swindles right there

  114. RAIDERMAN99 Says:

OK, now that we have a very strong idea what the 2010 roster will be (barring trades and pick ups), let’s compare the 2010 squad to the 2009 squad and speculate if we’ve improved enough to return to our rightful place atop the AFC West.

QB: No JaMoron = vast improvement. Personally, I think Grads should be the starter, but even if it’s JC, we’re much better.

RB: Add Bennett, Rock, subtract Fargas. More time for Bush and a healthy McFadden (I still think he can be a force if used properly) = improvement.

WR, TE: Not much change here. Watkins gone, add Ford, Figurs, N.Miller. WR’s very green, but also show great promise. Another years experience and a real QB throwing to them should result in much better production from this unit. Z. Miller very solid. Stewart no loss.

OL: Add V, Campbell, Loper. Walker replaces Corn Green. Hopefully a healthy Gallery. Besides V at center not much immediate help compared to end of 2009. Still a very worrisome unit.

DL: Add Houston, Henderson. Subtract Richardson. Wouldn’t underestimate impact Houston will have. Expect strong year from M. Shaughn. This unit should be more versatile and improved esp if R. Seymoure plays up to capability week in and out.

LB: The most revamped unit on the team. Kirk goes, McClain, Kam Wimbly, Groves in. Questions remain about coverage ability but little doubt these guys are going to really bring the heat if Al turns them loose. Should be stronger against the run and added pass rushing versatility will present problems for oppossing O’s

DB, S: Many familiar faces augmented by what appears to be a stellar draft class. Nice depth. Can MM cover well enough to see more field time ? If so, expect some old fashioned Raid intimidation. CJ or Routt at RCB appears to be the big question, one of them must step up. This unit has not secured enough interceptions in the past, this might be the year that changes.

K,P : No need to improve the NFL’s best tandem. Kick coverage shakey in pre-season expect marked improvement now that roster is finalized.

Prognosis: Little doubt this is a much improved team, not only due to addition, but mostly subtraction. Dumping JaMoron was vital. Will come down to OL providing the time and holes necessary to score points. Not convinced enough has been done for that to dramatically improve. If Raids can score points they will be there at the end.

  115. HayesDaze37 Says:

Figurs is an aggressive returner. Just what the doctor ordered. He’s got lots of room to grow as a WR, too.

If and when the Raiders WR’s come into their own…especially if it happens at close to the same time for them as a group…we’ll be set there for a decade.

Similar things are happening on the O-line, D-line, and at DB.

Don’t look now…but Al Davis just might be building a GREAT team from the wreckage.

  116. Bauce 4 Real Says:

Also we did show a 3/4 in the preseason on some passing downs when we went to max coverage.

  118. DirtyRaccoon Says:

After the Cardinals practiced against the Titans in Nashville recently, Matt Leinart stood in front of a group of reporters, telling them that despite the Cards’ offensive struggles of the first two preseason games, “We are so close.”

Turns out Leinart was close – to the end of his time with the Cardinals.

The next morning, the quarterback depth chart was shuffled, with Leinart demoted behind Derek Anderson. Slightly more than a week later – Saturday – Leinart was no longer a Card, having been cut.

“For both parties,” Whisenhunt acknowledged, “this was the best direction to go.”

To get to the 53-man roster limit, the Cardinals also waived/injured running back Alfonso Smith (neck) and linebacker Chris Johnson (ankle). Those moves, though, were just small postscripts on the story long percolating toward a predictable ending.

The Cardinals tried to trade Leinart, but Whisenhunt said nothing materialized.

Leinart did not return a message Saturday, but said after Thursday night’s preseason finale he could only wait to see what happened.

“I’ve already said what I had to say about the situation,” Leinart said, adding, “I just want to play and have a chance to play.”

It wasn’t going to be in Arizona. Max Hall impressed too much – Whisenhunt named Hall, the undrafted rookie out of BYU, his backup to Anderson – and the Cards didn’t want to lose John Skelton by trying to slip him through waivers and on the practice squad.

Those will be the Cards’ three quarterbacks, Whisenhunt said. They will not chase a veteran backup.

Leinart wasn’t going to fit as a backup, either. He felt he had earned the right to at least have a chance to start after being the backup to Kurt Warner the last two years and was angry about the demotion. When Anderson retained the No. 1 spot after the Chicago preseason game, Leinart said again in stronger terms he had outplayed Anderson in the preseason and should be the starter.

But Whisenhunt maintained the decision wasn’t based on the last few weeks.

“This process what not about two weeks into camp or two preseason games,” Whisenhunt said. “It was a complete body of work over a period of time.”

Leinart, the team’s No. 1 pick in 2006, finished his Cardinal career by completing 340 of 595 passes for 3,893 yards, 14 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in 29 appearances and 17 starts. He was the starter going into 2007 before getting breaking his collarbone in the fifth game and then couldn’t hold off Kurt Warner the following preseason.

By the time the 2010 preseason had ended, Leinart was ready to move along.

Whisenhunt complemented Leinart for Leinart’s professionalism Saturday, when Whisenhunt told him he was being cut. Leinart also said he had grown as a player under this staff, and “it meant a lot to hear him say that,” Whisenhunt said.

Now Whisenhunt turns to Anderson, a quarterback with a checkered past of production.

“I realize he went to the Pro Bowl … and there has been a lot of other conversation about him as a quarterback,” Whisenhunt said. “But I think we are judging it based on what we have seen. He has improved dramatically.”

Whisenhunt also said he was “as comfortable as I can be with a rookie as my backup quarterback.”

In both cases, that comfort had to be better than what Whisenhunt felt for Leinart, who is free to sign with any other team. Whisenhunt declined to talk specifically of what Leinart was “missing” for him to have become the Cardinals’ starter, although “I do believe he can play in this league.”

    Just not in Arizona.

“It wasn’t about how quickly this all transpired,” Whisenhunt said. “It was about what I thought was best for our team.”

  143. DirtyRaccoon Says:

Quarterback Patrick Ramsey was released by the New Orleans Saints late Friday night, and rookie quarterback Chase Daniel has landed a roster spot as Drew Brees’ backup for the defending Super Bowl Champions.

Daniel caught on fast in learning the offense of Sean Payton and had a great preseason, throwing for 369 yards and four touchdowns against three interceptions. Daniel completed 31 of 48 passes (64.6 percent).

Ramsey wasn’t all that bad, either. He completed 28 of 45 passes for 400 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

The move would indicated that the Saints like what they saw in Daniel and the potential he has to develop.

Daniel, 23, is eight years younger than Ramsey and will have plenty of time to grow under Payton and Brees’ tutelage.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Gibbs’ resignation was abrupt, and it’s not quite clear why he did it.

However, Schefter notes that some think Gibbs may have resigned as a response to some of Seattle’s recent roster moves. It’s also possible that Gibbs, who announced his retirement in 2007 only to return to coaching in 2008, feels burned out.

I agree. Our biggest problems were on the right side. Center, Guard, and Right Tackle.

Veldheer fixes the center position. Now if we move Walker to guard, that’s an upgrade over Carlisle, and then Barnes or Campbell at RT is an upgrade at Walker in my opinion.

Honestly I would still like to see Gaither at one of the Tackle spots, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

    Vikings have not signed Houshmandzadeh
Posted by Mike Florio on September 4, 2010 7:04 PM ET
So as I walked out of 30 Rock after proclaiming to the Notre Dame halftime audience that neither the Bengals nor the Vikings are interested in receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh, I started to get e-mails from readers regarding a report from FOX 6 in Wisconsin, which cited a source who said that Houshmandzadeh had joined the Vikings.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, it hasn’t happened.

The source didn’t say that it would never happen, but it hasn’t happened yet.

Houshmandzadeh was a hot commodity in March 2009, generating big-money offers from the Vikings, Seahawks, and Bengals. But the football-watching world quickly learned that T.J. loves him some him — and that he loves to talk about how much he wants the ball.

Not coincidentally, the market for his services has gone dry.

COW, what are your thougts about veldheer sarting at C?

    —————————————————-

I said this was happening right after the Seattle game and it makes sense.
IF Satele is better than Veldheer right now it isn’t by much. So, it is reasonable to think Veldheer will be better than Satele with some experience. That being the case, why wait? PLUS, Satele has missed games injured all his career. That means Veldheer is likely to start soon anyway.

A third consideration is Bruce Campbell. By the time he is ready, he himself says it’s a ways off, then Veldheer will have some experience instead of two newbies playing their first game together.

Don’t forget the team wants more power. Veldheer gives you that NOW. His pain will be learning blitz reads.

The team now has 4/5 of their line being former OT. All these guys were studs at some level so they can (are in Gallery’s case) thrive at the easier C and G spots. BTW – If BC ends up at RG you have 5 OTs and with Pears as a power TE – 6 OTs on the field. Could be awesome.

  213. 860Todd Christensen Says:

Foorball like life is a learning experience. Some guys missed an assignment, blew a call, wrong angle of attack, and everyone in here wants their head. I see it as they learned something, this makes them better, smarter, add up mistakes, this makes knowledge. We have a lot of Rook’s performing well for us now, that was a good draft, but they have to learn, and we are looking good!

  214. PurpleDrank81 Says:

DHB will be the man this year….Believe me guys have some faith

  216. raidergo Says:

release figurs and loper sign bobby mccray

  217. Coach on Wheels Says:

    Reason for optimism –

Despite running vanilla plays against future foes, the offense finished the preseason 4th in the NFL. Preseason or not that is huge for a team with no offense in 7 years.

The much-criticized O-line allowed only 6 sacks in 4 games tying them for 8th best.

The defense dominated when the starters were in 3/4 of the games except two big runs. The red zone D held teams to mostly FGs.

The team went 3-4 in 09 after benching Jaslob. If they finished 09 a near-500 caliber, they could jump in ‘10.

  218. PurpleDrank81 Says:

Release Figurs and pick up Betty White I bet she wouldnt drop as many balls

  225. Denver Paul Says:

    WOW! What an off season.

The last time I posted was on draft day and was geeked with excitement. Suggested there could be 15 to 20 new faces on the 2010 roster. As it stands right now, there are 17 new faces with potentially a few more. That makes a 33% turnover from last year! Plenty of reason for optimism!

    Go Raidas!

  226. Just Fire Baby Says:

So who gets more carries this year, Bennett or Rock?

200+ carries went to Fargas last year, and with Bush already hurt and Darren the other “RB” for now, there may be more than that to go around.

  227. GG Says:

After selecting his final roster Saturday, Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum declared that the team is will “move forward” without holdout CB Darrelle Revis.
“Darrelle is not here, and we’ve planned accordingly,” the GM said. “We feel good about our depth at corner. We have six guys that can help us.” The Jets did keep six cornerbacks on the roster: Antonio Cromartie, Kyle Wilson, Dwight Lowery, Drew Coleman, Marquice Cole, and CB/S Brian Jackson.

  228. drew2276 Says:

The Sam Williams saga continues…Sam is the Raiders Roth IRA, you keep investing that roster spot and eventually that untapped talent is just going to come out. That’s how I justify Sam Williams annual waste of a roster spot.

Y’all remember when Bush didn’t want to play fullback when he was healthy? Later admitted he wasn’t in game shape after it was noted he kept taking himself out. Dedicated himself this off-season to getting into better game shape. Now he is injured.

We don’t really have a good blocking fullback. What if Coach Cable reminds him of his re-dedication to staying in games shape and convinces him to play fullback until his left hand heals. Then….the training staff puts a big concrete club on that left hand to protect it….and Mike B. presents it rather forcefully to linebackers on running plays and to blitzers from any position on pass plays. Might even blow everyone’s mind and carry a ball in his right hand every once in a while. Voila! We have two fullbacks!!!!

Two sources who reviewed game film of Washington’s preseason finale called Albert Haynesworth’s performance “awful,” as the $100 million defensive tackle played 49-of-55 defensive snaps against Arizona.
On the rare occasions he did play hard, Hayneworth reportedly “failed to adhere to the principles of the new 3-4 scheme.” At Saturday’s practice, Haynesworth was reportedly moved back to his pet peeve nose tackle spot, and removed from the nickel package. He’s now considered “highly unlikely” to be named a starter in Week 1, and may even be deactivated altogether.

Okay, every spot is important. Either a starter, back-up, or developmental guy or ST player.

Jay Rich = none of the above.

    Starting 1st down DE’s – Houston & Matt S.
Best pass rushers DE – Houston, Matt S, Wimbley, Scott
Short yardage – Houston, Kelly, Henderson, Seymour at DE – no J Rich

There just aren’t enough situations to play him and he isn’t developing like a Stevie Brown.

    Just numbers.

  259. Denver Paul Says:

  262. itzSteve Says:

I hope we are looking around for more linemen, as our depth is really shaky. Loper replacing Morris I can live with and he is probably better, but Loper was cut by the Lions and yet he is good enough to make the Raiders? Pears has great size, but it looks like he is dumber than a bag of hammers. He is really frustrating to watch. Our best hope on the right side is that Bruce Campbell is a quick study and takes over RG or RT in the second half of the season. Barnes became invaluable after his performance at LT. I think he proved his point with Cable. Way to show up finally!

  268. priesttj Says:

We’ve had good to decent defenses but we’ve NEVER had an offense capable of bringing us from behind in the 4th qrtr. This offenses is not only capable but will in many cases bring us from behind. This offense IMO is capable of blowing some teams out.

This is how I see the Titans game coming off. I see the Raiders going with a fast break offense with no-huttle and single back offense. This gives DMC a better chance to find open holes. They’re going to spread the Tiatns defense out and use sprintdraws and screens to DMC. It’s going to be a wide open attack ffensively.

On defense I see multiple coverages and fronts to confuse not only the QB but their blocking. They will spy VY with either Howard or someone else. It’s going to be all 11 men attacking CJ. They cannot let CJ get outside too often because when he does angles will not help you with his speed he has to funneled into the the middle where hopefully we have plenty of tacklers waiting. If he gets outside he just reads blocks to well he’ll cut it back and hurt you. He is the scarest HB I’ve seen since Barry Sanders.

  269. Coach on Wheels Says:

  278. itzSteve Says:

With the way the offense has been performing so far in the preseason, I think Hue will try to maintain a balanced offense. The problem is that the Raiders are a bad running team right now, so the offense has to throw the ball early and often to loosen the defense up. We kept 7 WR for a reason and I am really excited for the offense to open up the playbook. Russell could never learn anything more than the basic offense, so that’s why we have looked so vanilla in the past. Remember from camp, Nnamdi said it was nice to finally have to defend the entire passing tree this year. Time for Hue and Campbell to let it fly!!!

Looking at the updated (but not final) Raiders depth chart (on their website), Figurs is listed as the 3rd string kick and punt returner, not even listed as a WR.

  292. Teabag Says:

This is an O-Line that is very, VERY bad….. I don’t care if they had pixie dust up their “sleeve”…. I worry for J Campbell and there won’t be many holes opening up for the run.

  294. Raiders 4 Life Says:

Anybody think the O – Line could be :

Barnes, Gallery, Veldheer, Walker, Henderson on week one? I know Henderson hasn’t practiced at RT in game situation…….

  295. Coach on Wheels Says:

    SAM WILLIAMS?

The recently updated Depth Chart has 53 guys – and no SAM WILLIAMS even though there is sace for him on the OLB line.

Did you see Mario Henderson almost get Campbell obliterated in the Niner game?

    Gallery hasn’t looked too well…

A rook @ C …. a 6′8 one at that playing C…. who missed two KEY assignments on running plays in the SF game and had McFadden wrapped up almost before he could take the handoff…

    Carlisle…… nuff said…

RT pick your poison… Walker or Barnes… both penalty machines..

yea, at best, this O Line sucks.

Cornerback Dre Bly is not gonna be Dre for the Detroit Lions again.

Bly was among the final roster cuts Detroit announced Saturday night,

  309. priesttj Says:

But don’t react to fast to these cuts a lot of these kids will end up on PS. You only have 53 spots and most teams would like to keep 60+ players.

  310. RaiderRetribution Says:

#150- Alice Shatner, lmao, he does over accentuate much like his daddy

  311. Raiders 4 Life Says:

304 – By his own admission, I think it is too early for Campbell at RT. I would love to see Carlisle replaced and I think Walker makes for a good RG, but is he ready? If the coaches feel it is a wash, then buy all means, lets go with youth!

  312. raiders22 Says:

Ravens cut troy smith. would much rather have hue jackson coach him up then keep kyle boller. we already know what boller can do, and its not very impressive.

R4L, good answer! You are a Raider Fan, welcome aboard! Everyone, New Fan, Raiders for Life is with Us, wecome him, But yes, R4L, he needs to be developed, but my guess, at, at least 2 positions. I think he can do it!

  316. Raiders 4 Life Says:

I love wearing my Raider garb in “Choppers”, a great Colorado sports bar. Most of the Doncs fan respect my passion even though they ride my arse. Fortunately, we have split the previous two seasons but this is going to be a fun year……

  317. Raiders 4 Life Says:

QB is not very high on our list of needed upgrades. If Hue brings on Troy, then we will know he is better than Boller but don’t hold your breathe.

  318. 860Todd Christensen Says:

R4L, this year you will be able to SWAGGER, been doing it all my life, get used to it!

  319. ArmChair GM Says:

    Lester Hayes and Mike Haynes…

reincarnated as Nnamdi Asomugha and Darelle Revis. Al has wanted to recreate that tandem since that duo ended. That is why he got Deangelo Hall, but unfortunately Hall was overrated, and not a bump and run, press, man to man, cornerback.

But Revis is. And Big Al has no problem paying him the big bucks that he wants. Can you imagine how much that would piss off NY and the rest of the NFL? Al would do it for that reason alone.

If the Jets can’t work out a deal for Revis, and he ends up leaving NY, I see it happening. He will come to Oakland.

  326. Guy Says:

Juaquin Iglesias and Jarron Gilbert maybe? Get rid of Figurs and ?? and do you guys think Hartwig would be better than Veldheer as the season progresses?

  327. Raiders 4 Life Says:

Hartwig and Housh would both be upgrades. I am holding out for Logan Mankins. Might as well reach high. I still think we may trade a safety as well. I think that Branch, with his speed as the last line of defense with MM34 in the box is not a bad combo!

  328. Just Fire Baby Says:

    Jarron Gilbert was cut? Interesting.

I guess jumping out of a pool on youtube didn’t translate to the NFL. Who knew!!!

NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi reports the Lions have acquired CB Alphonso Smith from the Broncos in exchange for TE Dan Gronkowski.
Coach Josh McDaniels deserves another year or two to implement his program in Denver, but the early returns on his draft results aren’t pretty. The Broncos traded a first-round pick to grab Smith in the second round last year, and they’ve now ditched him for a tight end who couldn’t make the Lions roster last season. It’s a smart move by Detroit, adding an early-round talent to a thin secondary while gambling that they can develop Smith where Denver failed.

  335. RaiderRetribution Says:

#295- you’re correct Sam Williams’ name is not listed on the depth chart there are 53 names (I went thru even duplicates),

note Luke Lawton got cut, so carrying 54 is ireelevant.

We have to be to 53, I still think there is a trade in the works.

And I do like the idea of using M. Bush as fullback until his thumb is 99%, it will kepp him in football game shape.

  336. GG Says:

Yep, a good promotional tool for da raiduhs, a coup signing to have an annual State of the Raiders press conference. Al is always looking to make a mark in the NFL, be talked about for something newsworthy like a Revis signing would. While it’s unlikely, it certainly is possible and in Al’s nature.

I would’ve kept Chris Cooper over John Henderson, I saw nothing from Henderson in the pre-season games, I hope he’s been good at camp, because IMO his pro bowl days are long behind him.

Still a good squad, nice to see T.Howard stuck around, I’m still hoping for more INT’s from him.

I’m not sure if the Yamon Figurs spot couldn’t have gone to another position.

All and all, looking pretty good, speedy recovery to MBush.

  346. Roch R Says:

    Go Raiders.

  347. RaiderRetribution Says:

Road Scholar, Myron Rolle got cut, he should be on the Raiders’ radar. He was one I was hoping the raiders would draft.

I am exstatic about the 2010 draft class. Rolle should be picked up and placed on our practice squad.

  350. RaiderRetribution Says:

  351. Raiders 4 Life Says:

  353. RaiderRetribution Says:

Mr. J. Henderson could be on the team for just the first couple games, Titans and Rams since they have two of the best running backs in the league, Johnson & Jackson, and rely on their ground game.

Revis most often is lauded for his man-to-man defense… .

“When I see Darrelle Revis playing cover corner, I see Kobe Bryant in a one-on-one isolation matchup”, ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer said. “Darrelle Revis has a knack for shutting down an opponent’s top receiver.”

After all, why would opposing teams dream of throwing in Revis’ direction if he’s such a lockdown cornerback? He led the NFL in passes defensed.
With a luxury like Revis essentially eliminating the other team’s best receiver, the defense has all sorts of options.

Palmer’s misguided throw on Saturday was against Revis in man-to-man coverage. So Palmer chose to do that — for whatever reason.

“Will he get beat? Yes, I guess he can get beat,” Ryan said of Revis, “but I’ll take my chances. If there is one guy that I want to cover somebody, with my paycheck on it, I want it to be Darrelle Revis. Period.”

Bottom line is Revis can play zone but he is most known for his man to man coverage skills. He is nothing like Deangelo Hall.
