Jackson helped get T.J. to Baltimore

It may have been inadvertant, but the glowing endorsement of quarterback Joe Flacco by Raiders offensive coordinator Hue Jackson played into the decision of wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh to sign with the Ravens.

“I don’t know if you all know, but me and Hue Jackson have a real good relationship, and Hue used to brag about the guy all the time. Brag about how good of a quarterback he was and his demeanor and his personality, and that’s why I was a little late,” Houshmandzadeh told reporters in Baltimore according to the Baltimore Sun after meeting with Flacco. “We were in there talking a little bit. It always helps when you’ve got a guy that can put the ball where it needs to be.”

Jackson was Flacco’s quarterbacks coach with the Ravens.

The Sun reported Houshmandzadeh chose the Ravens over the Raiders.

    ******************************

If your gonna have a wish granted, aim a little higher. Like #1 D against the Run, and #1 overall Defense. We may not need any help to have a Top 10 D.

  • RaiderRetribution

Raiders have a top ten rushing defense, they are the AFC West Champions!

  • 8RaiderReign8

    #1 D ain’t happening. I’m being realistic.

  • RaiderRetribution

One thing we will know tomorrow, is what the hell is up with the rookie back-up linebacker, Mr. Goethel, that is so important that it has to be kept top secret?

  • 8RaiderReign8

With two rookies as starters an considering our safeties #1 D has coach’s chance in Al’s system.

  • http://aldavissucks.blogspot.com/ The Real MaddenRaider

Raiders usually play good week one. They won’t get blown out. But eventually Al’s philosophy of “just lose baby” will permeate the Raiders’ sideline and they’ll find a way to choke.

No way the Raiders win this game. No way in hell.

What are you doing here Dude? Shouldn’t you be on a Tennessee board? You can probaly get in on some good Titan talk in between Nascar and Country music conversation.

Nice to hear from all these so called “fans”.

  • http://aldavissucks.blogspot.com/ The Real MaddenRaider

A fan can’t be realistic? We have the worst owner in the game. No GM. A head coach who would be fetching donuts somewhere if he wasn’t here. Why can’t a fan just look at this situation and say we’re screwed until it’s addressed?

Really 8, REALY, did you just sat you were being “realistic”? Really, realistic? You just said “If I could have one WISH this season it would be to have a top 7 rushing defense.” Isn’t a wish realy just a fantasy, no matter atainability, or legitimacy? That in it’s self is UNrealistic!

It’s like badly breaking your Legs, and saying “man I wish I felt better”. NO, you say MAN, I wish my legs wernt broken!

Maybe you should have just stuck to a simple “Gee Hey there guy’s, um I am hopping that the Oakland RAIDERS defensive run blocking unit is in the top 7 overall standings in the NFL.

Of course, if you had said that, Norco, MR, KK, 408, Priest, Oakglenn, heck even the Bauce would have ran yer a$$ out so quick ya’d think you were out of you mom’s basement.

  • stoopidmike

Talk about a test right off the bat…Titans got Possibly the best offensive line in the league, and CJ is the top RB, arguably….If our D can control the ground game, That should give us great confidence/momentum that would carry over through the season. Get our Swaggar back. We shall see.

    Jerry!
    Come ON Jerry!
Jackson helped TJ get to Baltimore?!
You must really need something to write.

Edward Teach: Post #39 has it about right.
It’s TJ’s age and wanting to play with a team that was at the same rebuilding stage as the Raiders.

  • RaiderRetribution

Raiders’ run defense will face two tests right off the bat, Titan’s Johnson & Rams’ Jackson.

Should the Raiders try to get in on the Haynesworth sweepstakes. Washington has put him on the block, they want two picks (I figure probably two od 2nd, 3rd, &/or 4th round). They have already paid him the $21 million dollar guarnateed money up front, this past April of 2010, so $$$ wise its proven all-pro who we will get for 3rd round dollars.

  • RaiderRetribution

    Raiders do not need TJ.

  • RaiderRetribution

Raiders should trade Mr. Howard, Mr. Eugene, & a 3rd for Haynesworth, activate Mr. Stevie Brown.

    Better yet….

  • RaiderRetribution

Raiders should trade for Jonathon Stewart & Steve Smith of the Panthers.

Carolina will need to trade one of them at least, should they be 0-3, and have not scored any offensive TDs.

    just a thought…

Racoon, what the hell’s wrong with you tonight? Calm down. The guy’s just giving his opinion.

Raiders sign former NY Giant defensive tackle Jay Alford who got released 3 days ago in a deep positional battle. He’s a long snapper as well.

    From ESPN NewYork:

Alford was one of the Giants’ more promising defensive players before tearing his ACL last preseason. He missed all of last season and was making his way back this preseason. But Alford, who had a monster sack on Tom Brady late in the Giants’ win over the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, was a casualty of numbers.
The Giants are stacked at defensive tackle with Chris Canty, Barry Cofield, second-round pick Linval Joseph and Rocky Bernard. Bernard has come on strong the last two weeks of camp.

  • Violent Hands

M.Waulfe must know him well it would make sense to cut Condo for him as we are pretty thin on the DL

    Jay Alford joins the Raiders
Posted by Mike Florio on September 8, 2010 4:08 AM ET
The post-September 4 roster churning continues.

A league source tells us that defensive tackle Jay Alford, a third-round pick of the Giants in 2007, has agreed to terms with the Raiders.

Alford missed all of 2009 with a knee injury suffered in the preseason. He appeared in every game of his first two seasons, with three starts in 2008.

Alford played in each of the Giants’ four preseason games in 2010.

out man out now that we’ve added a guy to the roster:

    pick one!

Desmond Bryant, Ricky Brown, Thomas Howard, Sam Williams, Yamon Figurs or Nick Miller …

I’ll be pissed if it’s John Henderson :o

  • SilverNBlackPA

Don’t know much about Alford, but I see he’s listed at 304 pounds. To me, that says 3-technique. I wonder if Desmond Bryant’s injury is worse than first appeared. It would make sense to sign a competent backup. I just really hope this has nothing to do with Seymour’s triceps trouble.

  • Just Fire Baby

Yamon should get the ax, IMO.

If they release Sam Williams, I would bet they would still be hoping to get a 6th or 7th rounder for Howard, and after they did, they would bring back Sam.

Don’t think they will release another D-line guy.

Alford was pretty good those few years, but coming off an ACL injury, wouldn’t want to assume he is any better than any of our current D-liners just yet.

  • Just Fire Baby

Who knows, maybe something strange will happen.

Release Trevor Scott or John Henderson, trade JLH.

Just cutting Yamon seems to logical.

  • Just Fire Baby

    too logical I should say……..

    Coffee!!!!!

  • Carl Weathers

    It won’t be a D-lineman because Alford isn’t 100% healthy.

Don’t they have to drop a player before adding one? Maybe they traded a palyer for a draft pick.

  • Carl Weathers

    WAKE UP JERRY!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just Fire Baby

Nothing on the Raiders transaction page

  • http://www.actionext.com/playlist_57486.html La Milicia Negra

    Carl…

when you add a Free Agent player you dont have to give something in return, such as a draft pick…

furthermore, you cant give up a draft pick to get a 54 man roster…

that means Alford is ours and we have to get rid of a player to ad him to our roster…

  • http://www.actionext.com/playlist_57486.html La Milicia Negra

    Carl…

I just realized what you meant… if we traded a player I think it might be Thomas Howard, Titans is keen on him..

  • Carl Weathers

I meant that maybe they traded a player off of the current roster to be able to add Alford.

  • Carl Weathers

I can’t see them trading him to the titans 5 days before playing against them.

  • SilverNBlackPA

    Carl…

I just realized what you meant… if we traded a player I think it might be Thomas Howard, Titans is keen on him..

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++

There’s no way they trade anybody to the Titans until after the game. Would not shock me a bit to see Howard go then, though.

  • Just Fire Baby

Interesting the Raiders signed this guy this week.

There is something about how if a player is on the roster week 1, his salary is mostly guaranteed for the year, but after week 1 it is not for the whole year.

Must have plans for him to stick around, or they didn’t think he would be around in a week.

  • Just Fire Baby

Maybe someone should ask Andy Slater.

Who has a twitter account? Lets get the semi-pro’s up and running here!!

  • SilverNBlackPA

Found this scouting report on Alford:

Assets: An athletic tackle with superb versatility. Specializes in collapsing the pocket, using a quick first step and a lot of energy to break through the line and get after the quarterback.

Flaws: A one-dimensional defender as he focuses strictly at disrupting up the middle. Doesn’t pick up the run well. Needs to improve his overall technique.

That sounds a lot like Desmond Bryant to me. I still don’t wonder if he’s more injured than they’ve been letting on.

  • http://www.actionext.com/playlist_57486.html La Milicia Negra

could the trade not have a clause that the Titans was not to use him in week one?

  • http://www.actionext.com/playlist_57486.html La Milicia Negra

Alford is just as injured if not more than Bryant..

  • RaiderRockstar

I’m not impressed with Desmond Bryant or his gimpy elbow. not as a DT anyways

We have no depth at DE after letting Richardson, Cooper & Gunheim all walk …

Trevor Scott gets abused against the run as a DE so we have no depth for base end if Shaughnessy or Houston get hurt or need a breather. Move Bryant to DE

one of these guys should get walking papers today:

Ricky Brown, Thomas Howard, Sam Williams, Yamon Figurs or Nick Miller …

Nick Miller is the only guy on this list eligible for the practice squad (just a thought)

  • hwnrdr

Good Morning Naton! Jay Alford, huh? Who’s really hurt this time???

  • Just Fire Baby

Alford was part of that Giants Super Bowl D-line, where they didn’t have a NT, and everyone was just a 290 pound disrupting force.

    That’s Wauffle’s MO.

  • RaiderRockstar

Jay Alford, huh? Who’s really hurt this time???

Seymour, Henderson & Bryant have all been “fatigued” at some point in camp :)

  • hwnrdr

Good Morning Carl, Rockstar, JFB, and wow!!! Good to see you in here LMN!!!

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

Jay Alford? I don’t think we needed this guy with Seymour, Bryant as the two 3-techs.

I hope that they aren’t looking for more “athletic” lineman again. You need a big guy to clog the middle.

If they release John Henderson, then you will know the Raiders haven’t learned a damn thing about defense over the last 7 years.

    Rushing the passer isn’t EVERYTHING…you can’t stop the run….you can’t win

  • SnB offense defense specialteams

Is it not enough that they already have 3 – 3-techs on the roster in Seynour, Kelly and Bryant.

Guess they want that athletic look….so you can get pushed up and down the field.

Keep Henderson and keep developing that Heard kid.

  • RaiderRockstar

nose tackle isn’t just based upon FAT

it’s all about strength and technique. leverage

compare Terdell Sands & Jay Ratliff

just because you guys haven’t heard of Fred Robbins & Jay Alford, doesn’t mean the Giants didn’t have a nose tackle on their 4 man line with Mike Waufle as DL Coach

Tuck & Cofield were the 3 techs

gosh – Jhill and I went over this 3 months ago, didn’t we?

  • RaiderRockstar
