Kelly sounds fine with loading up to stop Johnson and rolling the dice on Titans quarterback Vince Young.

Defensive end Alex Daniels, defensive end Jay Richardson and cornerback Joey Thomas cleared injured/waivers and were moved to injured reserve. They may at some point receive injury settlements and move on.

I think we will improve to somewhere around 20th against the run. The issue that I really wonder about is can we get off the field on 3rd and long? Our defense seems great on first and second down, but just cant finish it and force the punt. This areas improvement is paramount imo.

That might be pushing it B.
I believe the plan is to get 15 snaps or so a game, the more snaps he gets that means the more running plays the other team is running.
The ideal spot would be between 15-20 solid snaps a game, and forcing the other team to toss it 30 times a game.
Besides, teams like the Colts, Chargers, Texans, these teams barely even run the ball 25 times a game anyways.

I don’t think we’d have a dominant run clogger on the roster if we weren’t going to use him …

you can call them ends or backers, doesn’t matter …
what they’re good at and what they’ll primarily be used for is taking down the QB and starting base ends ShoNasty & Houston are beasts in thier own right when it comes to getting after the QB
However, if we can’t stop the run – pass rush becomes vanilla and rather ineffective

Of course, at some point the injuries of a typical NFL season will kick in, and they will have to think a little on their feet.
Wouldn’t be suprised if Joseph and Cooper were told to be in game shape for the middle of the season. Especially is Yamon doesn’t do anything on his returns.

What i’m saying is, you can’t blitz and send multiple guys at the QB when teams can shoot a RB up the gut for 5 yards per carry

#2 harass the QB

Chris Cooper is probably a better run defender at DE than Trevor Scott, but equal to Quentin Groves.
If a starting DE goes down, Groves may start at DE with Howard or Brown at WLB

Pretty sure it is for return duties, and once Chaz is healthy and they figure out if JLH or Miller are capable at Punt returns and Rock or Miller are at KO returns, he will get waived.

Call me crazy, but I think the key this weekend is stopping VY.
CJ can go for 180 yards, but if VY is 8-17 for 85 yards and a pick, we should still win.
On the flip side, if we somehow miracously hold CJ to 75 yards, but VY goes for 200 and a TD, and 50 yards rushing, we will lose.
And if we can somehow get Kerry Collins in the game, it is in the bag!!

So what does T. Scott bring to the table? He can’t cover so he can’t play LB and he can’t stop the run, so he can’t play DE.
He can get to the QB? Maybe, but I would rather see Matt S and Houston at DE when going after the QB.

A player that can only cover TEs is too one dimensional to play in the NFL…except of course in Al Davis’ eyes.
Huff had an aberration that quickly corrected itself when he made a couple of plays to begin last season and then returned to his non-play making ways….

Stevie Brown played like crap against the Seahawks. I re-watched it, and he got toasted in coverage a few times (really bad on the 2 point conversion) and took an Anthony Dorsett angle on the first TD.
Michael Huff might have been our best defensive player at times last year. He single-handely keep us in the game week 2, with two picks.

Depends on how his 180 yards are divied-up, but the Titans proved they can lose while he goes crazy. They started last year 1-6, and he was averaging 120+ a game on the ground during that time.

I heard that HBO was thinking about featuring the Oakland Raiders in next season’s Hardknocks, so they sent in a producer to watch the Raiders TC this season and he said it can’t be filmed because the episodes would only consist of Tom Cable walking around pretending to be a HC while everyone ignored him and then some shots of Al Davis sitting on a throne while the rest of the coaching staff entered the throne room, took off their shoes, bowed down and approached Al in a supplicant manner making their respective requests regarding the direction of the team. Al would then either grant their request or have Herrera give the coach 20 lashes on the azz for insubordination.
HBO can’t show that stuff, but Cinemax is reportedly interested!

Hey I don’t think VY is that great of a QB, but he is the equalizer for that team.
The D is solid, have a great kicker, great coach, and CJ is going to get his. If VY plays well they win, if he doesn’t or someone else is in, they don’t.
The facts support this as well.
