Cable on Bush: I didn’t know he was out
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, September 8th, 2010 at 11:56 am in Oakland Raiders.
Raiders coach Tom Cable was playing it coy with the Tennessee media regarding the availability of running back Michael Bush when the Raiders visit the Titans Sunday.
Asked if Darren McFadden would get a featured role with Bush out of the game, Cable said, “First of all, I didn’t know Michael Bush was out. But if Darren is playing, we have high expectations for him as well as Mike.”
When Cable was asked about his expectations for Bush, he said, “I think we’ve got two good running backs. I expect good things from both guys, they both can run and catch and block. I think they give us something—both of them.”
Bush came off the field following the morning walkthrough with only a small bandage and splint on his left thumb. Practice is scheduled to get underway shortly.

Cable = COY candidate
September 8th, 2010 at 11:59 am
Very Good news… titans have to scheme for both even if he plays or not….
September 8th, 2010 at 11:59 am
Cable didnt know we were trading for Kamerion Wimbley either, so maybe he isnt the best source of information within the organization.

Bush is gonna carry it right handed & McFadden is gonna carry it left handed to confuse the defense!
September 8th, 2010 at 12:00 pm
This blocking TE notion …
Brandon Meyers is our #2 TE.
Pears came in as an extra Olineman, not TE.
I think Cable called it his jumbo package.
In the preseason games, there was often 3 OTs on the field. Henderson and Walker would move next to each other with Pears filling in wherever the starter moved from.
By the way, I thought that was the most ridiculous thing I had seen and matter of factly thought this is something that would have Cable on his way to being fired!
Campbell got hurt behind that BS. Remember Langston on the left side with his back turned while Willis was running right next to him?
September 8th, 2010 at 12:00 pm
My theory (or lack of) regarding all the 3 tech players is that a few teams are incorporating a new D-line scheme where all down linemen are DE’s to rush the QB better. Maybe the Raiders know that they only have 1 true NT and they will be a team that pressures the QB. But that’s just IMO.
September 8th, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Al obviously feels beating up the QB is more important than having a top 5 run D, and I agree.
Getting a one-dimensional fat-guy at NT helps on one hand, but not as much as knocking the crap out of a QB.
Go get ‘em Alford!!

My issue is with pulling one of the starters outta position. Let Loper play next to either starter as the extra OT.

Score points, you know like the Colts and Saints, make the team have to keep up, and than beat up the QB and make them one-dimensional.

JFB, if the Titans do any passing … it’ll be to CJ (screens) or a TE
the beauty of having a back like CJ is you can run the ball, even if you’re down 14 points heading into the 4th quarter. he’s a threat to house one every time he touches the ball and has an excellent OL in front of him
don’t expect TN to go pass happy with Vince Young at QB and Kenny Britt inactive

Al always has.
This D philosophy only works when teams are forced to abandon the run and throw when they are BEHIND in points.
The O has sucked so bad in recent years the philosophy has been a disaster.
Ditching Pears was actually a good thing but our O line is suspect again.

The big thing with the titans are those stretch runs. Our CB’s better come prepared.
September 8th, 2010 at 12:25 pm
Well the Titans are more the exception than the rule.
The Chargers (twice), Texans, Colts, even the Seahawks and the Chiefs prefer to toss the rock around.
Al’s big quote is that the QB must go down and go down hard. Never heard of a quote of his on how the NT must absorb two blockers and absorb them well!!

Here is what I worry. I think the Raiders SHOULD win against Tenn. the problem is I always fear they will play down to the competition under Cable. They’re on the road against a good team with a very good coach against a superior running back and a generally hard nosed team overall. I don’t know if Cable is the type pf guy that can truly instill the sense that the Raiders should be able to do this on Sunday.
It seems the Raiders ALWAYS do well and then at some point say “Wait a second. We’re winning. There’s something wrong here.”
