Scott, Groves, Figurs get nods

Raiders coach Tom Cable said in his post-practice press briefing Wednesday that Trevor Scott would start at right defensive end over Matt Shaughnessy, Quentin Groves would start at weakside linebacker and Yamon Figurs would return both kickoffs and punts.

Cable did not rule running back Michael Bush out for Sunday’s game. Bush was limited in practice Wednesday, as was Desmond Bryant (elbow).

Those who did not participate were Chaz Schilens (knee), Travis Goethel (lower back) and Walter McFadden (hamstring).

It was the first disclosure of the injuries to Goethel and McFadden, although Cable would not elaborate whether Goethel had surgery or if the injuries held long-term ramifications.

More to come . . .

If Nick Miller even dresses? Im thinking he is in an offensive package that we didnt show in the preseason. We love those secret weapons. He did line up as a back last training camp….

  • ArmChair GM

Run defense, turnovers, and special teams are the key to us winning this game.

No big kickoff or punt returns. Janikowski needs touchbacks as often as possible. Limit Chris Johnson and don’t turn the ball over and we should win in Tennessee.

I agree shark, just trying to see the decision making process from the coaches perspective?

Scott over Sho-nasty? Figurs returning punts and kickoffs? What the hell? You seriously gotta wonder sometimes.

What else, exactly, could Figurs have done to prove he was unreliable and unlikely to succeed in that role?

Any sign of that toolbox Brian the Genital lately? Just wondering what new laughably tough blog nickname he’s chosen for himself this time.

If he’s not here, I’m sure he’s busy getting kicked around by a troupe of ornery girl scouts.

  • ArmChair GM

Those are all big ifs, because we haven’t proven that we can do any of those things yet.

But if we can, and just not sabotage ourselves, we should be ok.

better than the fat fullback we had last year returning kicks…he sucked..I can’t even remember his name

Gary Russell. I hear you – he was a slug. Maybe just have to look away during kickoff/punt returns on Sunday.

    31-30 in OT!

oh wait, nvm I’ll stick with my first pick.

My surprise that Figurs made the team has been replaced by the shock that the open-fist professor has decided to go all-in on Figurs.

49ers bring back QB Nate Davis to practice squad; cut loose QB Jarrett Brown. Maybe Raiders should take a look see. Tony Ugoh was cut because of injured foot.

    Hey El #37

Did you miss the T Scott LB experiment? It was terrible! Couldn’t stay with a RB in te flat, lost contain on 2 reverses, over ran his gap ( along with the great RoMac) leading to 3 huge runs in preseason, got blown up by smaller RB’s trying to block him.
He can speed rush the QB. That’s IT!!!
For Cable to say that our best 11 are on the field is a joke.

I hope he and The Wisconsan Wonder rotate so we can see for ourselves who the man is!

Maybe he got put on timeout like me by the MOD.

I think more than anything Scott gives us a 3/4 look on D it’s no knock against Matt at all. He played well and they were switching them in and out all preseason so it’s an easy do. They’ve been toying with a 3 man front all off season. It gives them more flexability on D. They’re going to blitz and confuse VY and try to force t/o’s. It’s just that it caught me by surprise this early.

    Well here we go boys!

I’m getting pretty pumped for the game, dudes. Gonna have a few sluts from the Argentinian national volleyball team over for some pre-game mimosas and tonsil hockey.

Then we’ll probably smoke some reefer and watch the game in the hot tub until the chicks pass out from heat exhaustion.

Krappy, if you want to work my party the most I can pay you is $3.80 an hour. But I’ll throw in a half empty bottle of Jamison to make it worth your while.

Clearly our ham sandwich of a coach thinks getting the best 11 pass rushers on the field is the key to containing CJ. Crazy like a fox.

    They’re going to blitz

I hope you’re right. Been waiting for that for a long time, along with a 3 man front and more flexibility on D…

I like Trevor Scott at end. You know why?

It looks like a 3-4 defense. I wish Trevor Scott can the next Ted Hendricks.

Uncle Alzheimer has his hand in this Yamon Figurs situation..Ive been a Raider fan to long to think any different, this has the smell of Alz making decisions on the field, but what can i say i am hooked on rooting for the Raiders, once-upon-a-time he had 1 of the greatest football-minds, but now (mad-scientists)madness is taking over him.

  • shibydude05

Trevor Scott starts but matt finishes. The bigger question to me is Groves at the will. What is the deal with the coaching staff hating on Thomas Howard? To me he’s been one of the better playmakers on the team the last three years.

I can honestly say for the first time in many years that I trust in this coaching staff.

Being positive that the staff might is making the right call going into this game.
Not sure what difference it makes when crazy Al can call down on the field anytime he wants and overrule them. Do you trust Al?
