Bush sitting out Thursday practice

Share

Running back Michael Bush emerged from the locker room in sweats and a baseball cap Thursday, apparently sitting out practice after being “limited” for the previous two days with coach Tom Cable keeping alive hope he would face the Tennessee Titans.

Bush (fractured thumb), wide receiver Chaz Schilens (knee), linebacker Travis Goethel (lower back) and cornerback Walter McFadden (hamstring) were not suited up and all appear likely to be on the inactive list for the season opener in Nashville Sunday.

A few quick hits after the first access to defensive coordinator John Marshall and special teams coordinator John Fassel:

–Cornerback Chris Johnson will play in the first team nickel defense, playing on the outside with starter Stanford Routt sliding into the slot.

— The move of Trevor Scott from weak side starter to right end was made to get Quentin Groves on the field once Groves became adjusted to playing in back of the ball instead of being on the line of scrimmage.

— Linebacker Thomas Howard has repsonded to losing his job as a starting linebacker to being a core special teams player and is also playing in the big nickel defense.

— Marshall compared Rolando McClain’s football IQ and abilty to instantly recognize concepts and philosophies to that of Lofa Tatupu, who was an immediate starter in Seattle and three-time Pro Bowler who helped the Seahawks to a conference championship as a rookie.

— Core special teamers along with Howard this year, according to Fassel, include Groves, Rock Cartwright and Hiram Eugene.

— Return specialist Yamon Figurs was referred to by Fassel as a “high rewards” guy. Figurs scored two touchdowns for the Baltimore Ravens on returns when Fassel was a special teams assistant there.

    Dj.. Tuck Rule game to the cheating Faketriots

    1A. Immaculate reception…Robbed us of a SB….
    1B. Tuck rule…Robbed us of a SB…

    ————

    I hear ya, but I guess the ones that bother me the most are the ones where WE do it to ourselves. We KNOW the refs have a vendetta against us and it sucks majorly, but when we just blow a game like the ones I mentioned it just seems to bite a little more for me.

    By the way, don’t forget about the Rob Lytle non-fumble in 1977 at Denver. Soooooo obvious. If they had instant replay back then Raiders have 6 Super Bowls at least.

    Favorite Raider win (of somewhat recent vintage):
    ++++++++++++++

    During this whole seven year disaster, there’s only 3 victories worth remembering at all:

    1) At Pittsburgh last year. Epic, amazing game; one of the 10 best of the year in the whole NFL.

    2) At Tampa Bay in 2008. Knocking the Bucs out of the playoffs and into the cellar of the NFL (even below us!) and costing Gruden his job was pretty fun.

    3) Pittsburgh at Oakland in 2006. Grittiest defensive effort I’ve seen out of this team in the past 7 years. The offense got, what, 97 net yards? But the D rose to the occasion time and time again.

  • J Hill

    It was at home, coming off a really amazing victory versus a good Eagles team…and the team rolled over and died from the first play. It became apparent that JaDrank was useless and that the rest of the team was demoralized and/or didn’t care. It was pretty much rock bottom for the franchise. (I hope)

    ——————————————————

    Disagree.

    I think something happened on the road last year GAME 2 @ KC!

    I remember one of the first plays being a simple dump off to DMac, and the ball went straight into the ground. I remember clear as day plopping down on the couch, dejected, thinking we had no chance.

    I can’t believe we won that game, by the way.

    Isn’t it a fact that the “Tuck Rule” had NOT been called ever before that play, and HAS NOT BEEN CALLED ONCE SINCE???

    Everyone’s talking about Trevor Scott and Matt Shaughnessy. What about Quentin Groves at WLB?

    Seems like the idea all along was that he would be an OLB in the NFL. Jaguars played him at DE for two seasons. The Raiders’ coaching staff might just like what they see, and want to get him on the field more.

    =====================

    Groves has always been more suited to OLB just as Kam Wimbley’s better suited to being a “hand in the dirt” pass rusher, however Groves did nothing in pre season games to even hint he deserved to start or even make the team.

    Scott’s demotion at the 11th hour could be troubling. He may be heading the way of Tyler Brayton if he can’t get the job done in anything other than the Raiders 3-4 “look” psycho package.

    What is your WORST Raider loss?

    =================

    The Super Bowl.

    Lots of huge Raider disappointments during that whole Gannon/ Gruden era and its obvious Gannon’s staus as a Raider suffered because of it.

    Not kissing the ring and showing up at Bucs camp every other day after he retired didn’t help either…

    Chris Johnson says he’s the best back in the league
    Posted by Mike Florio on September 9, 2010 4:45 PM ET
    On Wednesday, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson told Dan Patrick that Peterson is a better running back than Titans tailback Chris Johnson.

    On Thursday, the ever-talkative Johnson responded.

    Asked how he compares himself to Peterson, Johnson said, per Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean, “I don’t. I am the best back in the league, he is not. I don’t think it is close. I feel like I am above all the other running backs in the league. I feel like I am above him.”

    For now, Johnson is right.

    But they both had better watch out for Ray Rice.
