4-12
September 13th, 2010 at 12:40 am
Only 1 week.
We know the team’s “limitations”
But its still only 1 week.
Win the next two and things will look up.
The team does DESERVE to get ripped for failing to ONCE AGAIN show up and compete
September 13th, 2010 at 1:16 am
with all the injuries yesterday to the Raiders and other teams, (that hit Weaver FB for Phili took-leg going backwards), QBs: Stafford, Kolb
Raiders could be getting some phone calls for Mr. Boller (any for Mr. Gradkowski just hang up Al).
as for other positions alot of safeties went down so the Raiders better sign Mr. S. Brown, before another team does = as 3 of our DBs went down, CJ, Huff, & Eugene
September 13th, 2010 at 1:20 am
You can take it to the bank, the Rams are going to run Steven Jackson all day, we have not proved we can stop a premier RB for 60 minutes, and their rookie, Bradford threw 55 passes week 1.
September 13th, 2010 at 2:03 am
Fellas, anyone thought we were going to be 16 and 0? Raiders lost, get the Rams next, should be at 500 with 14 games to go! Relax,How are the whiner fans doin? They got killed, picked to win the NFC WEST, PUNKED! Now if we lose to the Rams????? Then, panic
September 13th, 2010 at 2:37 am
There is no gimme games for the 2010 Raiders and you guys better get used to that. I dont care if its the Rams or the Bucs. Should be a better match up but no gimme.
September 13th, 2010 at 2:46 am
The Raiders lose the season opener for the 8th year in a row. The Raiders continue to make history for all the wrong reasons. I wont throw this season away yet, because I have them going 9-7 at best, but the coach (Basic Cable) needs a premium upgrade. People jumping off the Campbell wagon already? When he throws for 250 plus & 2 tds, everyone will say,,thats the Jason Campbell we were expecting, then all will be well again..
September 13th, 2010 at 2:56 am
It’s BS all this talk about how it’s not the end of the world, bad to fire coaches, etc.
Al obviously is to blame for whatever behind the scenes stuff that goes on hindering coaches from implementing game-plans, if that’s true or to what extent.
But the OL is the root of all our on-field problems, and that falls on Cable/Michalczik. They’ve had 2-3 years now to fix it, admittedly with mediocre cattle, but it’s clear with how players are playing out of position on the OL that those two coaches have little idea. We have some talented pieces in the OL, so for the same rubbish to happen in the Titans game yet again is inexcusable. Especially after our off-season and all the talk.
This is the same as last 7 seasons, all the post-game coach-speak, how they’re in training camp mode by week 7 still trying to teach the basics, working out how to prepare, getting the right starters in there, etc. Takes them forever to be proactive.
Same story will happen….week 2 we’ll either fall over the line against a bad Rams despite the same things we saw vs Titans, and just getting a win will invoke relief to keep things going another fortnight. Then we’ll get blown out again for a few weeks stretch, then we’ll pull out a good win against a play-off caliber team, then there’ll still be that talk about how to keep things going, keep working on it, blah blah.
BS.
Fire the HC and OL coach now. Get someone in who can teach it better and will utilize the talent in their natural positions. Al to pull his finger out and make some urgent trades for better OL.
Centers and Tackles is what we need. Light a fire under J.Campbell’s butt. It wont matter if we have JC or BG at QB if we have a top OL. Either/or in their skill sets will perform to a far greater capacity.
September 13th, 2010 at 2:59 am
i rambled a bit last post, but i dont effin care. Im crashing soon.
Enough is enough has been going on far too long. Too much lip service about how they will mix things up, utilize more sophisticated offense/defense, rotations, getting that hard-hitting mentality back, but it’s BS. The organization moves at snail’s pace. This organization cannot keep bleeding like this. 7 consistent years of on-field and off-field BS.

truthfully, I wasn’t expecting to win this one, but I didn’t expect a blow out either. If we can win the next 2,(which we should) thwn we will be back in business! at least the donkeys lost…we are still right there boys, let’s not panick just yet…
September 13th, 2010 at 3:01 am
NO MORE BS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let’s start a mantra GG…
NO MORE BS!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 13th, 2010 at 3:08 am
I was demanding a win, or a competitive showing like an actual functioning offense etc. Same BS over and over again, giving up big plays, players going on about how “it worked in practice but for some reason we just made a mistake in the game”, same absurd OL penalties and break-downs, the Titans completely changed to 2nd gear in the 4th, let up, is the only time our OL started to function, but JC still dumping it. When the game was on the line in the first half, we were ill-prepared, ill-disciplined, woeful, and our QB was so under attack he freaking had to take a knee to avoid another sack, he was running for his life, JC was rattled due to the woeful OL and OL coaching and that no hoper Cable.
Mantra indeed, no more BS.
No way is that tripe served up week 1 acceptable especially after all the effin lip-service and off-season moves, and all the talk. Cannot stand Cable and his pre/post PC’s. Next time i hear him talk better be him thanking the Raiders for a gig on his exit out of there.
September 13th, 2010 at 3:10 am
Although we all were hoping & predicting scores, deep down we all probably knew we were gona lose that game, but the blowout was heartbreaking yet not surprising. Honestly if we win next week I wont be surprised, if we lose next week I wont be surprised. Back to life,,,back to reality.
September 13th, 2010 at 3:25 am
A guy like Campbell is not the problem anyway. Look at Brady. He’s the same type of pocket statue QB. But how often do we see Brady week in week out standing there with 5 yards pocket clearance, 5 7 even 10 secs, to hit receivers deep. They have such a solid OL they can afford to be a pass-heavy offense, short and long. That’s what our passing offense should be capable of when we pass.
There’s nothing wrong with vertical passing, many teams utilize it, often even. As long as you have an OL capable of sustaining it. If Al wants to get off watching balls fly 50 yards then pull your finger out, fire Cable Michalczik, trade for another Tackle or two and another Center or two.
And do it today to salvage the season, not when the season is a wash after week 5 and internally bleeding with empty stadiums and nationwide media mockery.
How much hype and talk did we get around the media, even from “haters”, about the Raiders being a playoff team. Raiders all talk no action. They had to come out there and make a statement that we were back. Now we undid all that with that insipid display and same BS post-game PCs.
September 13th, 2010 at 3:51 am
GG, have a good nite bro.
I got so frustrated went to sleep at 7:30pm and just woke up to the nitemare again. Central time here.
Until we get a professional OL, we need a scrapper like Bruce in there. Sorry but JC is not a leader. A leader doesnt slide 2 yards ahead of the first down marker. JC is just the master of the dump off.
September 13th, 2010 at 5:10 am
– McFadden looked like the running/receiving back the Raiders had envisioned when they drafted him. He’s never ran harder or better from scrimmage, gaining 95 yards with a long of 16. He consistently broke the first tackle and finished runs. He also caught six passes for 55 yards.
“Catching the ball, running with the football, blocking, he was able to convert some plays,” Cable said. “That’s the kind of player we envisioned him being. As I have said all along, if he is healthy, that’s what he’s capable of.”
Said McFadden: “I just feel like I did the best job that I could out there as far as how the coaches use me. You want to go out there and play hard and I feel like I did that today.”

Raiders inactives as reported from Nashville: RB Michael Bush, LB Travis Goethel, CB Walter McFadden, WR Chaz Schilens, DT Desmond Bryant, WR Nick Miller, G Bruce Campbell.
-
Six players didn’t finish _ Robert Gallery (hamstring), Yamon Figurs (stinger), Hiram Eugene (lower leg), Michael Huff (knee) and Richard Seymour (hamstring).

Who cares?
We don’t need these guys to lose by 25 at home against STL!
September 13th, 2010 at 5:20 am
When they showed T-Rex Gallery is 30 I laughed , how many seasons have we had him. Dmac ran hard and held onto the ball wasn’t crazy about the drop but he played well. Wow love the O-Line and young WR core just amazing , J.Campbell inspired the entire Raider Nation with his slide in front of the First Down.
GO RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!
September 13th, 2010 at 5:42 am
Last thing we need Jerry, is to see a slideshow of what made us collectively sick to our stomachs. Please refrain from slideshows in the future unless it’s a win or at least a decent game.
Yesterday’s debacle told us everything we needed to know about this team. They got bullied. They get punched in the mouth and instinctively reach up to touch the blood, and cower backward. Raiders teams of yore were the bullies. This team collectively was psyched out and did not meet the Titan’s intensity. It was embarrassing to root for the 98 pound weakling.
Huff and Branch gave up early backbreaking plays and made a mediocre throwing QB look like Peyton Manning. The run defense seemed to come out with a mission of stopping CJ, but their resolve waned when the secondary made those mistakes.
Compounding the mess, the offensive line was atrocious. LT Henderson looked stuck in the wrong snap count as he got thoroughly quick counted off the line. I felt bad for Campbell as he took a beating. Still, even when he had time, he’d shuffle his feet like a boxer, instead of step up and throw the ball. On the one long throw to Murphy where he zipped it over his head, Campbell had all day, but was doing his Muhammad Ali dance. And Murphy has to go up and get the damn ball. Don’t just wave a hand at it. It should have been caught, but it appeared that Murphy was worrying about getting hit. Damnit guys, this is football, not tennis.
I think that the experiment of Veldheer at center has to end. He is still a good lineman and maybe could stand in for Gallery if Gallery is nicked up. But the line calls lacked any cohesion, and it affected the entire line. I think he pretty much gave away the snap count, as it seemed the Titans would jump just a hair before the ball was snapped. And our own old behemoths like Langston Walker couldn’t resist the urge to flinch in anticipation of the defensive end jumping the count.
Things we must face now. Our entire offensive line is still way below average. It’s too late to fix that now. Maybe next year. Coach Cable, whose forte is coaching and developing offensive lines should be fired just on account of guilt by association. He’s had 2 years make this a serviceable unit, but and it is the absolute weakness of the team. By comparison, do you think a Dungy led team would have a crappy defense? Or a Parcells led team would have a crap offense? So why would a team that has a career line coach have a crap offensive line? Please sign the petition to fire Cable.
I liked what I saw out of McFadden. He’s trying to prove he’s not a bust, but there are others on this team that need to be given their pink slips now. Bring back Stevie Brown, and demote Eugene. Bring back CJ and put Routt back to nickel team. Release Walker. Bring some better safety support…someone make a friggen tackle please. That long TD run by CJ, Rolando McClain got steamrolled in open space, and where was the safety support? 24-3, That was the point I had to turn off the game for awhile and collect my thoughts. It’s tough to continue to watch that garbage play.
We say we have improved, and defy the national media that “hate” us. But they are right to say that our team sucks.

Good Morning Nation!!!
Yes, I didn’t expect to get blown out…but…didn’t expect to win either!
I also believe that DMAC played harder than any player on the team…he got 95 yards against a very good defense! CJ…well you know he was going to break one…also…JC slides before the marker one more time…

Over the course of the previous week I stated my concerns with today’s game.
1) I made clear I did not understand why Yamon butterfingers is returning kicks when he made it apperent he can’t hold onto the ball. I suggested Rock Cartright, he may not be flashy and not really a threat to go all the way, but he can make it to the 30 yard line and most importantly HOLD onto the ball!
2)overall playcalling. Today for example I could not understand why the Raiders went for FG’s when they clearly needed more points, Why not go for it on 4th down when you are down by a ton? It just doesn’t seem like there was any confidence, I’ll even go so far as to say that by the middle of the 3rd quarter they weren’t even trying to win, just trying to make the score not look so bad on paper.
3)Jason Campbell’s intensity. he looked lifeless and uninspired. I figured after he got knocked around a few times he would yell at the line or give some sign of life, he looked like a zombie. I’m not going to sit here and pretend I’m on Grads bandwagon but I will say he at least shows some fire which Jason Campbell and the Raiders did not.
4)I was thinking Darren Mcfadden was going to be a let down today, I was wrong. He was the only sign of life on the Raiders, he ran with heart. I hope he can do it for 16 games.
5) I questioned not playing Veldeer in the final preseason game just to get him more reps. The guy hasn’t played center since high school! Why wouldn’t you get him more reps? Doesn’t make sense to me. I think Veldeer has potential and am not putting him down being it was his 1st real NFL games. I am just questioning Cable’s judgement to throw him into that situation. I understand the other option is nothing special but at least he can snap the ball.
I can say so much more but I am so frustrated with this team I will not bother. I predicted the Raiders would lose today but I genuinenly thought it would be close, What do I know? looks like the Same old Raiders to me.
I will end on a positive note and say maybe by some miracle this game is not what we can expect to see for the rest of the season and we get our act together! GO RAIDERS!

Rockstar this a repost from yesterday. (You asked if anyone was going to take it on the Chin regarding DMAC)
I have no problem “manning up”, the question is, will the Raiders step up there game?
September 13th, 2010 at 5:52 am
Yes, someone needs to take JC to some baseball camps to teach him how to slide. That one slide where he caught his cleats halfway, I was worried he’d tear up his knee. On the slide where he made 9 meaningless yards, if he just raised his leg up a little and jump slide he’d of made the first down.
September 13th, 2010 at 6:01 am
good points HBush…
What about the overall lack of intensity. Coming out of the tunnel at halftime, the Raiders looked like they knew they were in the middle of a long day. Where were the adjustments? We got some good garbage time momentum, but only after it got out of hand. I wont count that as an adjustment.

Titans 38, Raiders 13
6. Calm down, Titans fans. Let’s see how your offense does against the Steelers next week before declaring Tennessee the favorite in the AFC South. The Raiders clearly have done nothing to improve in the offseason. Watching quarterback Jason Campbell struggle makes you realize JaMarcus Russell wasn’t the problem in Oakland. The Raiders dropped their eighth straight season opener in non-competitive fashion.

September 13th, 2010 at 6:04 am
JC=no heart whatsoever. Why do you think Shanarat would give him away for nothing? He knew the guy is an older version of JaMarcus. Three times the guy ran, slowed down, attempted to slide and just sat down. No effort, no attempt to make the first down at all. Gutless piece of garbage. This offensive line stinks, but somehow Bruce was able to win with them. Cable is not fit to be the head coach of a girls 8 & under badmiton team. He challanges the spot with less then 2 minutes left in a blowout? Great coaching fat azz. We all drank the koolaid Cable served up.

Please tell me that Cable is not this stupid, that he would keep a player on this team like Y.Figurs, amongst other glaring issues–this guy does not have a clue…the team was not prepared for this game, and the combination of him and Uncle Alz is not a good mix for us,S.Routt is not a football player…this does not look good..either Cable is extremely unawares..and-or-Uncle Alz is calling plays from the booth…sumthins got to change.

I was angry for this game but no more. I will just accept whatever comes our way. Usually by week 8 or 9 I am just pleading for the team to be competitive.
Now I am asking for that in week 1.
I understand the “unique” challenges. Let’s hope they have pride.
As for next week, I will NOT be surprised if they lose that one.
Run defense is suspect, the CB opposite Nnamdi gets abused, safeties blamed for long runs, p&ss poor O-Line play and tentative to downright AWFUL QB play.
HOpefully they learn from this. But how many times do you have to learn how not to get your azz stomped.
Tom Cable, Hue Jackson and John Marshall need to step up. Or Al needs to let them…whatever is going on up there…SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE
Constant blowouts are the norm rather than the exception around here.
Thank goodness for fantasy football
September 13th, 2010 at 6:11 am
I just about puked when the commentators were alluding to the fact that since the Raiders sucked with or without JaMarcus, that it wasn’t his fault. That was rubbing in the pain. I’d like to not remember that fata$s anymore.

Fire Cable now. He really looked retarded calling for a timeout to challenge in a game long decided with 2 minutes left. If he’s so concerned with erasing a 25 point deficit, why is he still kicking FG’s in the 4th qtr? He’s got the look on his face, really of the definition of dumbazz.

ok, so whose the freakin loser that tried to convince everybody the run defense was fixed ???
39 carries, 205 yards & 3 TD’s
McClain = Morrison
Houston = Seymour (at end)
Seymour = Warren (at tackle)
Kelly & Routt = hot garbage (still – not again)
nothing has changed. We should have kept #52 and drafted Dan Williams or Terrence Cody!
a few observations:
Branch can’t cover Scaife and where was Mike Mitchell on the play? rushing the QB …
CJ’s 2nd rushing TD was right at ShoNasty & Eugene. he walked right into the endzone
CJ’s first TD was right at Wimbley & Branch
I thought Scott & Huff were the weak links on run D ???

Yeah; All of a sudden S.Routt is supposed to be Michael Haynes or Willie Brown, this is a joke, that was just 1 amongst a # of things that happened…the team is a reflection of the Ownership and its Head-Coach, another problem is we can have good players but they are not being put into positions that can maximize there effectiveness (thats coaching) I agree that at least 1 thing should have been is that C.Johnson would have started over Routt, unless he is injured, there is no excuse for this.

I think we need to roll with Shaughnessy and see what we got, Scott is a one-trick pony that is a liability in coverage and usually the run d too. They keep trying to plug him in like a square block in a round hole on this defense.

All I am saying is the team has huge holes in key positions.
Since Gradkowski is a star…certainly we could get a serviceable Left or Right Tackle….how about a backup Center somewhere. Or just draft picks.
Gotta make the move while the iron is hot

I live in Missouri and watched the Rams/Cards game yesterday.
I’m concerned about our home opener.
Sam Bradford is a better QB than Vince Young already!
good thing they don’t have many WR options …
that Rams D looks friggin tough & scary. I thought for sure Derek Anderson was gonna get a concussion. I’m not sure how many times they actually sacked him, but he hit the turf HARD just about every other play.
and Ron Bartell dropped like 3 potential INT’s that hit him in the hands or chest (should we move Louis Murphy to DB?)

September 13th, 2010 at 6:36 am
Amazingly, the Raiders are -4.5 point favorites next week.
Our run D may get let off the hook a little. Rams threw the ball 55 times in a game they were leading, tied or never more than down by one score the whole game.
September 13th, 2010 at 6:38 am
I’m not worried about that one, Rockstar! The Rams only can get better, but AZ is NOT what they was even last year. But…why do I get this funny feeling that….Stephen Jackson from the 1 (their 1)
September 13th, 2010 at 6:39 am
I would trade Bruce Gradkowski and get some help for the lines. If Super Bruce is such a star talent…surely we can get something in return right?

Why are you such a hater SnB?
The one guy at QB the last 5 years, who actually made some plays and made the O-line not look entirely pathetic, and you want to get rid of him to prove a point.
Who cares if it was a few games, one game, or one quarter like you like to say? That is one more game or quarter more than anyone else!!!

S&B: regarding the OL
Veldheer should have been exclusively playing LT since Day 1 after being drafted. Why didn’t Mario Henderson need competition after giving up the league’s most sacks? We had Jared at center and Barnes at guard
Cable is an idiot. plain & simple
the line should look like this:
Veldheer-Gallery-Satele-Walker-Henderson/Barnes
September 13th, 2010 at 6:40 am
Two things that made me happy yesterday after a ver BAD Raider game!!!
1. My dad screaming because his 49ers lost 31-6 to Seattle (I didn’t know until I called him).
2. Dallas going down in DC!!!

Who do you think will go furthur??
September 13th, 2010 at 6:42 am
JFB,
Let’s just hope the Raiders don’t embarrass themselves.
Give me 4Qtrs of fundamentally sound football….
not 12 penalties, false starts, not knowing snap counts, bad snaps, poor reads, dropped passes, unfilled gaps, missed tackles, and about the worst coaching in a generation.
How about a boring well executed game plan. Keep it simple….short slants, more runs than passes….and a defense that may send a blitz once in a while and have safeties and corners not getting burned for 70 yards.
I am still disappointed, but not shocked, that this team looked like it was their first practice together.
Embarrassing.
Just compete baby….don’t care about wins and losses

Maybe…but its too late now. Cable ain’t going back on his deal…this is his project ala Kwame Harris style.
The line is an unmitigated mess.
They need to trade whatever “tradeable” talent is on the roster and secure a tackle and guard. Satele back at center…at least he does the line calls and can snap the ball….and get Veldheer in at Right Tackle and Barnes at Left Tackle.

I just hate how the Raiders look PHYSICALLY overwhelmed on the football field.
OVERWHELMED!
Something is either wrong with the preparation or the talent.
YOu should not get blown out like this so often. THats what makes them bad. And the way they play, it usually doesn’t matter who the opponent is.
These blowouts take the fun out of watching them play.
Its sad when they are down 24-6 at halftime…game over.
Just when will this ragtag group of fringe players get sick and tired of getting blown out.
The losing I can handle…and have accepted because of the “unique” challenges.

I have been one of the sharpest critics of both Darren and JC amongst the semi-pro’s.
I never would have imagined Darren looked that good, and never could have imagined Jason would look that bad.
He was like Michael Spinks out there. Just taking a dive, collect his check and hope he maintains his health.
Can’t have that at the QB position, because EVERY NFL team takes on the mentality of the QB, either conciscously or sub-conciscously.
September 13th, 2010 at 6:58 am
the root of the problem is in training camp..none of the players are being held accountable because some of the old school Raider traditions just dont work in the modern day NFL..
thousands of fans watching you practice everyday makes a big difference and makes you attend to detail..
minimal blocking and tackling because your afraid to get guys hurt..so how do you find out how tough they are? its obvious when you watch, this team dosent hit in practice…they just read the company-line afterwards.. `that practice was so tough and everything is comming together BS`
September 13th, 2010 at 7:03 am
I think there is a lack of talent on both lines
it’s not a matter of being “coached up” or “developed”
I’m done blaming asst coaches & coordinators
Davis & Cable put together these lines and they aren’t up to NFL standard
Cable’s post game presser just says “little details” are the reason why we lost by 25 to the Titans, who weren’t even a playoff team last year. Cable says we’re playoff calibur – did it look like that to you fellas ???

Gradkowski played WELL last year w/ the same pathetic line.
He earned the starting position.
Raiders brought in mediocre Campbell with a loser attitude.
And this is what happens.
He needs to be yanked NOW.
Chances are tho, they’ll go 0-4 before they make the change.
Evryone can see it.
Coaching staff has heads up their @sses.
Receivers who can’t catch a ball that bounces off their hands or who are unwilling to take the effort to reach up w/ 2 hands should be cut.
and Campbell stinks.

I was very impressed with McFadden yesterday. What said a lot for him in my opinion was how he looked in the first quarter. Jersey covered in grass and HUGE blue mark on his helmet. He got after someone and had a hell of a day. He looked every bit the #4 overall draft pick, and at least gave us something to build from.
JC just got abused man… another very telling play, we took a f*@k!ng KNEE on second down in the second quarter… did that really happen?
If we dont go get some OLineman this week Cable will be gone by week 4.

Guys…I’ll say it one more time.
You need guys like Manning, Brady, Rivers and company to win in this league consistently.
Not scrappy players who use their feet. Of course retreads that can’t get the ball off doesn’t work either.
Its all an indictment on the General Manager for the predictament this team finds itself in every year. They haven’t had a good QB since Plunkett…and Gannon was Gruden’s boy….
I am not sure that the QB is the problem right now. That line is good for nothing…screens were batted, lineman false starting and too many other penalties, Left Tackle not leaving his stance….
You can’t win without a line….and if you need a mobile QB because your line is garbage…your season is already over…
September 13th, 2010 at 7:14 am
I was never sold on the McFadden being a bum lines but I thought the TRADE DMAC rants were hilarious. Im glad he had a good game, but I thing we should definitely see if he can string a few of those together… If our OLine made the trip to Tennessee you think he could have broke 100?

Those screen passes were batted down partly because JC just locked in on them as soon as he started his back-peddle.
You watch the Brett Favre’s, Peyton Manning’s, Tony Romo’s, Donovan McNabb’s…..these guys are always faking one way, going the other, looking people off.
The guy is 6′4, and every team runs a screen when basically the O-lineman don’t even block the D-lineman, and they never have three screens batted down in one game.

I am not into looking for Savior’s.
They don’t exist.
If Gradkowski was the man…he’d be the starter right now. The coaches and Al Davis went out of their way to make a run at McNabb..when that failed they went with Campbell.
They saw something they didn’t like in Gradkowski and are certainly looking at more film than just the 4th QTR of the Palomaluless Steelers, another team that failed to make the playoffs BTW…AND went ahead and replaced that secondary.
I don’t believe in saviors and I hate the concept of the underdog.
You win with the best players who have talent AND heart.
If Gradkowski gives the team a chance to win…if he makes us playoff caliber…why isn’t he playing then?
Either your Owner and GM is incompetent or Gradkowski is just not that good.
Which is it?

NO!
The freekn GM and Coaches should only recruit and start players that have those characteristics and replace players that don’t have them.
Talent AND heart is not an option…its mandatory!
Campbell was damaged goods coming in…Gradkowski was damaged goods coming in.
Both have played a good game here and there.
I am just frustrated with the “quick fix” mentality that goes with the Gradkowski crowd.
The guy is a career 53% passer who’s won-loss record mirrors Campbell.
There is NO SAVIOR here.
Unless the Raiders are so inept as to completely miss a playoff QB right in front of their noses while playing a QB that may be out of the league in a year or two.

SnB,
Who is saying he is a playoff caliber QB? You keep stretching these points to prove whatever it is you are trying to prove.
We all just want TO SEE if last year was a fluke, or if he can build on it that success. It’s not like it will take 3 years to figure it out, 4-5 games should do.
The reason he isn’t playing is because Al Davis is set in his ways. He made moves to replace the NFL MVP because he didn’t have a strong enough arm, lol!!!
September 13th, 2010 at 7:36 am
jc’s decision making is quite a bit slower than grads’ too. grads get’s rid of the ball quicker and has more pocket awareness. jc didn’t feel some of that pressure you could tell.
September 13th, 2010 at 7:36 am
Here’s how I would try to fix the O-line with the pieces we have:
Left tackle: Khalif Barnes
Left guard: Robert Gallery (Daniel Loper if Gallery’s hurt)
Center: Jared Veldheer
Right guard: Langston Walker
Right tackle: Mario Henderson
Barnes is nothing spectacular, but he has at least shown he can be a successful left tackle in this league, which is more than one can say for Henderson.
Gallery at left guard is self-explanatory and Loper is the best option for backup.
I wouldn’t pull the plug on the Veldheer at center experiment just yet. I’d see how he handles the next two games. First, going against the Rams, who don’t exactly have a spectacular defensive interior, should give him some good experience. Second, going against Arizona’s 3-4 in week three will let us know if he can handle the big nose tackles. If he continues to struggle, then it’s time to put Satele back in or, preferably, sign Justin Hartwig.
Walker’s at right guard would be putting him back where he looked good last year and his size would be an asset in the “phone booth” and his lack of speed would be disguised to a degree.
Henderson at right tackle would allow him to concentrate on his strength–run blocking–as well as get him away from the speed rushers he can’t handle as a left tackle. Plus, it would allow Campbell to see the rushers coming if (when) they do get by Henderson.
That’s the best solution I can offer with the pieces we’ve got.
Looking at this year’s upcoming draft, outside of the first round, it’s a pretty weak crop. So, if I were GM, I’d be on the phone to AJ Smith in San Diego and Belichick in New England offering every draft pick I could to get Marcus McNeill and/or Logan Mankins. If there’s a year to trade away all your draft picks, 2011 is it.
September 13th, 2010 at 7:37 am
snb, we got what we got in lt. it is what it is. i didn’t mention that as an option because it’s obvious that henderson is a special player (project)
September 13th, 2010 at 7:39 am
new england wouldn’t deal mankins to us, they have our number one pick next year, think they are going to help us out?
September 13th, 2010 at 7:40 am
Wow…I never said that Bruce was the answer either…and I agree with that line that the GM and coaches should start players that have those characteristics…but, do we? And yes, i know that Bruce won that game in the 4th qtr against a Polomaluless Steelers and I know had Troy been playing we probably would not have won… I’m just saying that JC looked lifeless out there and yes…defenders know that he checks down…so its easier to defend against him!
September 13th, 2010 at 7:42 am
this quote from jc is telling….
Said Campbell: “It’s tough. A lot of our plays are designed to go downfield. It makes it a lot harder, those guys getting a good (pass) rush the way they did. Sometimes you just check it down.”
seven step drop, watch for delayed blitz cause all the teams will be doing it

===============================================
Well, if he’s not a playoff caliber QB then you are saying that he is marginally better or the same as Campbell.
Way too deterministic to push for a change after 1 week of action.
Assuming Campbell wasn’t dranking….and overweight and missing meetings…he should be the starter assuming he outplayed Gradkowski and Boller in training camp.
I wouldn’t push for change now since both QBs are roughly the same talent.
As for your comments about Davis…isn’t that the root cause of this mess? You HAVE to be able to evaluate talent. If one cant’ do that…you can’t win!
September 13th, 2010 at 7:42 am
Grads is used to playing for the University of Toledo’s, the Bucs, Browns and Raiders.
He knows he is 6′1 and throws side-arm. That’s why he has all these little tricks on getting rid of the ball quicker, running around, throwing sidearm passes like the TD to JLH the last preseason game.
He is the perfect flawed QB for a flawed team. JC played for an Auburn team that had NFL talent everywhere, and than went to play for the Redskins who made the playoffs in his rookie year while he sat and watched.
JC might be a Pro Bowler for the Patriots or Jets, but he is not equipted to play for a team with serious holes.
September 13th, 2010 at 7:44 am
makes what dmac did even more impressive because we are a very predictable team and they know jc is going to check down and they know to send a blitz and they know when we are going to run.

SnB,
We are just going to go around and around here this morning, no sense doing that.
Just do me a favor, when Bruce comes in and the whole team looks better, don’t give me the “if they all played like that for JC” and “if he is so good why did other teams get rid of him” lines.
Just let him come in with a clean slate and see what happens. If he sucks, I will admit it, if he doesn’t, I want you to admit it.
Deal?

PA: who filled in for Gallery when he pulled a hammy yesterday ???
September 13th, 2010 at 7:51 am
Louis Murphy had a TD not counted last year vs SD because he didn’t finish the catch no big deal except to Raiders fans, same type play for Lions and its a National Travesty.
September 13th, 2010 at 7:52 am
Wasn’t Loper in there for Gallerey yesterday?

I thought it was Loper, which is why I listed him as the main backukp for Gallery…I admit I could be mistaken though

I’m not ready to call Jason Campbell a bust yet.
I’m not ready to say that Bruce Gradkowski is better than him, either.
I still think JCamp is the man. He simply doesn’t have the tools in place to be successful. Are there a few plays from yesterday he’d like to have back? sure
Keep in mind this is his 9th different play caller in as many seasons and he’s probably playing at less than 100 percent (SF game). I think he gets better as the season progresses and the run defense remains among the league’s worst
7-9 at best this year, unfortunately

Calvin Johnson is one of the league’s best WR’s
LouMurph had 8 other drops last year as a rookie 4th rounder – also a bad route runner
big difference!
Darrius Heyward-Ghost needs to step up and be the team’s #1 WR or we’re done for
However, my boy JLH had 3 yards from scrimmage yesterday. whoop whoop!

Pretty sure Bruce has had similar situations with play-callers in his years in the league.

Deal?
=================================================
No! Actually I will be more fired up.
I will ask why the HELL the coaches and the owner elected to throw away yet ANOTHER season.
I was livid last year for the same reason. If you KNOW the better guy is on the bench…then he should freekn play.
But I know that many love good ole Al and his idiosyncracies…..I can’t stand it!
Play the best f’n player! Is that hard?
So no, if Gradkowski rips it up after week 5 or so…then I will probably start sounding more like MR and company than they could ever sound like.
This abyss of blowouts week after week after week has to stop and if it could be prevented in TRAINING CAMP than it should be allowed to be prevented.

Gradkowski had his chance to be the starting QB here and lost it due to injury.
2 shredded knees allowed Frye to come in last year.
a torn pec & groin strain allowed Kyle Boller to make the roster and push for the #2 job (and JCamp the unquestioned starter)
the polish popgun simply isn’t durable enough – especially behind this garbage O-Line
September 13th, 2010 at 8:04 am
Bruce would be the starter if it was not for blowing out both his knees last year. JC would not be a Raider if not for Bruce being injury prone.
Hue gets the blame for the offense, Al gets the blame for not upgrading the Oline (he worked on D instead)
And Cable gets blame for getting blown out again.
But its crazy all the hate in here for Cable. Hue made all the calls yesterday and his O could not execute a simple screen pass. How about that pass to the RB? who passed to JC who took off running without looking to see if anyone was open.
Bottom line the Titans threw the kitchen sink at the O line and they were not anywhere near ready for it. And the QB sucked royally. Looked like a rookie, not a pro who has been starting for 5? years.
Heres hoping we can do something about being blitzed because every team will do it untill we stop it. The only good news is most teams do not have the horses to run it all dam day. The other good news is Bruce will put a stop to it when he gets his chance
September 13th, 2010 at 8:06 am
I forgot to mention the HUGE jump the Titans were getting. It was if they knew the snap count.

When your offensive line stinks, you need a QB that can improvise and make positive things happen.
That is NOT Jason Campbell.
Jason Campbell looks the part — tall, angular, athletic, strong arm, nice spiral — but he won’t get the job done. And it’s not just because he’s playing behind a bunch of turds masquerading as an NFL offensive line.
Nope, Jason Campbell won’t get it done because he can’t think on his feet, or successfully improvise when a play breaks down. All he will do is check down and pad his completion percentage, but he will not get you a crucial first down with a pass in any long yardage situation. That’s not his game. And to be a better than average QB at the NFL level, you’ve got to be able to react, think, move and then throw an accurate, catchable pass. Campbell can not do that.
He’s a scrub. Period. End of story.
You guys can laugh all you want, but the Raids do have a QB that doesn’t look the part — but he’s the real deal. He doesn’t have the ideal size or the cannon arm. But he’s smart, he’s a leader, he improvises, he can move, he sees the field, and most importantly – he throws an accurate, catchable ball.
Again, laugh all you want, but Bruce Gradkowski is one of the better QB’s in the NFL. He’s young and somewhat inexperienced, but he’s a WINNER. Gruden may not have been a personnel genius, but he found a gem in Gradkowski, just gave up on him too soon. Gradkowski has his game together now. The game has slowed down for him and he will excel if given a chance. Even behind the crap we have for an OL.
The Raids ran into a buzzsaw in Tenn. Team was flat, poorly coached, uninspired. The Raids needed a QB that would step up and lead, instead we got a scrub sliding short of a first down.
This team isn’t going to the Superbowl with the overmatched OL it currently fields — but it can be competitive and even make the playoffs — provided it puts a QB that can lead and make things happen on the field.
That QB is Bruce Gradkowski.
Hopefully Al Davis and the coaches get Campbell out and Gradkowski in before the 2010 season goes down the drain.

September 13th, 2010 at 8:16 am
Funny thing is the Raiders actually blitzed on Tyvon Branch PI call…..they sent MM and Groves!!!
September 13th, 2010 at 8:16 am
but why is the oline bad? could it be that the other team always knows what the raiders want to do because the owner dictates the plays that always have to be run? all you have to do is blitz them, overwhelm them. as soon as you see the qb making more than a 3 step drop you pin your ears back and go, then make sure you have the check down receivers covered and man to man on the wide outs chances are the ball will never get there. look at a tape from 1985 and i am sure jeff fisher didn’t even have to do that and you will see we are doing the same thing.

You say this about a guy on the doggone bench! BAsed on an almost mythical 4th QTR
I don’t believe the Raider coaches are that STUPID to leave a QB, that you so eloquently waxed poetic about being one of the top QBs in the league, on the bench.
They would start him and Campbell would still be on the waiver wire.
Give me a doggone break with that mess.
Campbell was terrible yesterday…no doubt….but he didn’t lose this game by himself..not even close.
That whole team looked like shhhhhhhhhh.
Both lines, secondary, receivers, coaches AND the QB.
They have played like yesterday for the last 8 years.
Let’s save the QB switch talk until we see Campbell absolutely holding back the offense ala JaDavis last year.
When he’s missing open receivers, throwing pick six’s, taking unnecessary sacks etc…then put him out.
Again do you think the coaches and GM are that incompetent to leave a QB on the bench that is the better option?
WILL SOMEONE PLEASE ANSWER THAT QUESTION FOR ME!

The O-Line looked like hot garbage against SF in the practice season. Many of us, including myself thought that the rookie Veldheer was overmatched, considering his experience. Once again, with Veldheer starting at Center, the line looked awful again.
Veldheer could be a very good LT some day, he seems talented. He might even make a good center some day, if he is really that versatile. But after ONE awful pre-season start, how in holy heck did Cable conclude he was ready to start yesterday.
Satele struggled in run blocking, but at least with him at the pivot, our offense looked respectable. Between the rookie Center, Langston Walker’s fat azz, and “Hands on my Hips” Henderson, we dont stand a chance in the rest of these 15 games.
We need to just stick Veldheer at LT and roll with his learning curve. Put Satele back at Center and start scouring the wire for any other veterans that might be available. Let Henderson,Loper, and Campbell compete for the RT spot.
I honestly believe that the horrible play of the O-line permeated through the whole team yesterday. The defense was decent initially, but just wore down over time, as they always do. McClain wasn’t a superstar but he looked much more solid than he did in the pre-season. DMAC was a revelation. It isnt fair to judge the WR’s based on yesterday because J. Campbell wasnt getting anything to them, and it isnt fair to judge J. Campbell based on yesterday because he spent the entire game running for his life.

So, where can we find a decent O-line coach? Cable is good at throwing the red challenge flag when we are down by 30 with 4 minutes left in the 4th quarter, nothing else.
___________________
If we are going to run this zone blocking crap, at least get a guru in here….Alex Gibbs walked away from the Seachickens…former Raider coach….time to take the last thing away from Cable….let’s get some decent coaching for our o-line.
The o-line is an unmitigated disaster, as I feared it would be. And you can’t hang anything on Hue Jackson’s performance…an OC can’t run his offense when he has a bunch of soft azz o-linemen ruining things before the plays can develop.

Still can’t get over the way that McClain got blown up on that long Chris Johnson TD. It was like a perfectly diagramed play where all Titans where exactly where they were lined up to be, and all Raiders were manhandled or thrown out of the way. Javon Ringer would have gone for a long TD too. But that steamroll of McClain gave me flashbacks of getting creamed as a freshman LB playing JV ball against fullbacks 80 lbs bigger than me. Ouch!

I thought the run defense was just fine. Did exactly what I said they would do. It’s no surprise that CJ broke a big run. I was very happy with the run defense over all. We are not going to face a guy like CJ who can break one at any time like that for the rest of the year.
Like Jerry said, minus that one run 3.5 yds per carry.
I’m more concerned with the over aggressive play from Branch. And the injury to our boy Huff.

Again do you think the coaches and GM are that incompetent to leave a QB on the bench that is the better option?
Um…yes. Refer to Yamon Figurs for a recent example of inexplicable decisions by the coaching staff. Figurs had done EVERYTHING possible to get himself cut during the preseason and yet he gets to start.
I’m willing to give JC another look, but you can’t deny Bruce has managed to win behind this sh@tty line before and he does seem to inspire his players. He’s not an ideal Raider QB, but neither was Gannon. I’m just looking for the W.

Weren’t we losing 10-3, with like one first down on 3 or 4 drives and CJ had 5 carries for 7 yards?
Once the D realized this offense was just going backwards every drive, that’s when the big runs started happening.

McFadden got garbage stats. Tennessee gave up the 10 yard chunks he got in the second half protecting against the long pass. Don’t read to much into that “breakout” game of McFadden. That was Cable’s gift to McFadden and Campbell easing up the horses and accepting defeat.
What made no sense was kicking FG’s in the 4th Q. and then throwing red flags with 2 minutes left and 25 down. wtf? is Cable that retarted?

I think we can also agree our offensive line is pathetic.
So let’s go on record now…
Who should be playing the most important position behind the crap we have up front ?
Which QB gives us any hope ?
RAIDERMAN99 goes on the record and says Campbell is a scrub and Gradkowski is a better than average NFL QB.
RAIDERMAN99 predicts Raids will waste first quarter of season watching JC flounder at QB before switching to Gradkowski and making run at playoffs.

Time to start John Henderson people…….Tommy Kelly permanently the UT and Seymour as LDE….make Houston and shaughnessy the RDEs inthe base…..you wanna stop run for real?
——————————————————-
You think VY had all day to throw yesterday, that lineup allows for reading the paper and having a beer for the QB.

Verses the triple shots of patron he had yesterday with the base d?

Let’s assume that DMC continues to play well against the Lambs, RB controversy when Bush comes back in week #3?
September 13th, 2010 at 8:55 am
Did Tommy Kelly play yesterday?

ROG: I’m not sure, but I know he got a huge game check

What was up with the DE on Titans getting off on the ball so quickly?
It was like we never changed the snap-count. Down-set-hut……sack.
Was it because of the noise? Rookie center? Cement-headed QB? Cable and Hue not thinking that far ahead?
Seriously, our O-line has enough issues blocking guys on a even plain, that just wasn’t even fair.

How are we gonna score points with 6 linemen in on all passing downs; and they still couldnt stop them. Its just embarrasing

Agreed

For the first time I can really say…
Don’t blame the loss on me.
September 13th, 2010 at 8:57 am
At least a real Qb got me 72.65 points in our FF League yesterday even in defeat. Thank goodness I have Peyton!

I blame the snap count issues on Veldheer. He must give some tic or gesture that sets the defense off. There’s no way that they can judge the perfect moment to come off the line.

I thought we were getting pressure on VY, especially early in the game. He just did what he always does, ran out of the pocket and made a play.
You look at the box score and VY did what he usually does. about 18 passes with 13 complete. He is good at getting rid of the ball and he just seems to WIN with mediocre QB play

no, rb controversy unless we make one, both are on record saying they don’t care who starts, they’re buds.
September 13th, 2010 at 8:58 am
DMAC is that really you?

new post gents

I’d have been better off starting Jason Campbell yesterday in my FF league than the guy I chose (and we even lose points for sacks)…
Is that good for the Raiders or bad for my FF team?
+1 Internets if you can guess who I started…

But then when JLH scores a TD you will cry about that black guy doing an endzone dance you cant do!
I’m mexican partner so I could show your sisters how to salsa merengue whatever you want, I just think a man scores a td and moves on the next play because it isn’t the last time that’s gonna happen

Question for you guys in Oaktown that go to games and know about ticket prices and value….
My buddy won 2 luxury suite tickets with clubhouse access (think that means free food and beverages) and parking pass to an upcoming Raider game from a casino here in Reno.
Wants to sell the pair of tickets for $200. Told him he could probably get more.
Anyone know what they’re actually worth ??

$195.00

Mc Fadden ran fantastic yesterday!!!! He needed to be the featured back a whole game.He needed to get accustomed to being patience and picking the holes in the lines and then shooting through it like a rocket. He was fast and shifty. I had not seen this running style in games from him until yesterday. I think he has what is takes to be a major positive impact for the Raider team.
The Raiders have too many of the same style receivers. Ford, Higgins, DHB, They are the same type of player. Raiders, try a average speed, good route running, good air adjusting, jumper, wide body, with great hands receiver. A receiver with great body control build great confidence with quarterbacks.Just food for thought.
