Figurs among the missing
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, September 15th, 2010 at 1:04 pm in Oakland Raiders.
No word on who the Raiders cut to make room for Erik Pears, but return specialist/wide receiver Yamon Figurs was not present or accounted for during the media window Wednesday.
Figurs didn’t finish the Tennessee game with a stringer, but said Monday he was good to go for the St. Louis game.
Those not present at practice who had injury issues included left guard Robert Gallery (hamstring), defensive tackle Richard Seymour (hamstring) and linebacker Travis Goethel (lower back) cornerback Walter McFadden (hamstring). Those present but not practicing were cornerback Chris Johnson and safety Hiram Eugene.
Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha also wasn’t practice as practice began. Asomugha occasionally comes out late after stretching with trainers. Running back Michael Bush was on the field with his left thumb wrapped and was in conversation with trainer Rod Martin as practice began.
Free safety Michael Huff, who didn’t finish the game with a knee injury, was practicing.
More to come later . . .

Fire Tom Cable.
Our o-line gets blasted and this fool goes and brings back Eric Pears.
I guess getting beat up all game by the other team isn’t good enough. In addition to that we need more offensive holding, and false starts as well in order to “stay the course” in Cable’s plan.
This ish is ridiculous.

All potential linemen are giving the following one question test:
“A defensive end has just blown by you like a Ferrari with a nitrous boost. He sacks your quarterback and causes a fumble. What do you do?
A. Dive on the ball so the offense can maintain possession
B. Check to see if your quarterback is injured
C. Stand there looking stupid”
Anyone who answers “A” or “B” is deemed to have insufficient commitment to excellence

Man putting together and Oline is not this complicated. Cable has been here 4 years and that is way more than enough time to do a adequate job. One good draft can fix this line if you know what the hell you’re looking for. Stop with this garbage haul and draft some great talent. I feel good about the two players we got this draft but you have to add to it this offseason and get it over with. Both Campbell and Veldheer should be starters next year and you then bring in another quality player or two and it’s done.
Now IMO Loper is a player and I think Barnes can help us now as well but he has to see that and make the neccessary moves. If Mario struggles try Barnes at worse you go back to Mario. But to stay status quo is crazy.

Not only did St. Louis get a franchise quarterback in Sam Bradford with the first pick of the NFL draft, but the Rams also got a nice left tackle in Rodger Saffold with the first pick in the second round. And those are two reasons why the Rams jumped ahead of the Raiders in the rebuilding of a losing team.
Saffold is 6-4 1/2 and 315 pounds with long arms and gets off the ball quickly. He’s strong, has quick hands, plays with a good base and has excellent balance and knee bend. Saffold got beat on a couple of outside-in moves in his first game, but otherwise got great reviews for his debut last week.
“I thought he really did a nice job,” Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo said in a conference call on Wednesday. “He had a couple issues there where he got himself in trouble and we got the quarterback hit, but again you’re talking about a rookie out there at left tackle, playing one of the premier positions and really kind of a pressurized positions. We know a lot of the speed edge rushers come from that side. But, from the day he’s gotten here, he’s kind of shown a little more maturity than a normal rookie and we’re hoping he makes that step, just like the rest of our football team, from Game 1 to Game 2.”
The Raiders drafted too late in the first round to get a premier left tackle and too early to get a solid prospect with upside like Saffold.

September 15th, 2010 at 2:16 pm
Rams rookie quarterback Sam Bradford is fired up about coming to Oakland and experiencing Raiders fans firsthand.
“I talked to Steven Jackson a little bit about it,” Bradford said. “He said it’s actually pretty fun. He said it’s a nasty crowd, they’re violent, they yell at you. But those are the type of crowds that make it enjoyable to play. I am looking forward to the challenge.”
He could ask Jason Campbell about the toughness of playing on the road in general.
“It’s just a different atmosphere, a different environment. Obviously on offense, when you play on the road, you have to deal with crowd noise that could affect the snap count. It can affect how you communicate in the huddle. I think one of the keys for us this week is communication — we have to be very good at it.”
Finally, he remarked on how Mark Clayton was able to catch 10 passes last week – the same as Darrius Heyward-Bey has in his career — after walking in off the street. (He was acquired from Baltimore earlier in the week.)
“Yeah, that was very impressive,” Bradford said. “What was really impressive was the way he stepped in here Day 1 and knew what he was doing, He came in and lined up exactly where he was supposed to, ran the right routes, didn’t ask questions, was very professional about coming in here and getting to work. We grabbed a couple of extra throws after practice and it really paid off.”

It’s very unpopular to say so but the problem swith this team were much more than Russell. He was just where everyone put there hopes and dreams for the future of this team. And when he didn’t deliver it was easy to say he was the problem. Just fans being fans.

No doubt about it. The Raiders are way more f-ked up that just at QB. The owner and coaching staff are other areas that need to be changed as well…

Maybe Figurs has taken his tiny hands somewhere else.
Put the scrambling Pollock and Nick Miller the DB killer in there and let’s see what we can do. At least it will be entertaining. And start more rookies. Better to suffer through growing pains than knowing pains—as in, I know Mario is never going to be a legitimate starting left tackle.

I sure hope “butter finger” Yamon is cut. Why didn’t this coaching staff go over the final cuts of teams to bring in a semi-quality KR/PR? Don’t tell me we got better players than other people’s rejects ’cause we don’t. Even high caliber teams like Colts are constantly tinkering with their roster based on who’s available via cuts. But naaah not the Raiders! They go with their own “TALENT” come rain or shine. How arrogant should a team’s GM have to be to do that? Ohh I forgot who we’re dealing with: Al, the king of decades. Illusions of greatness is blinding Al to reality. He should open his eyes to see what he’s standing in. Earth to Al: WAKE UP!

Is “Oakland Raiders” on facebook an official Oakland Raiders page?
This is their recent update:
“Whats Gradkowski’s record as a starter ?
Throwing Jason Campbell under the bus after one start is overreaction.”
Wow. Did Al type that himself? Nice way to bash a backup quarterback on YOUR TEAM, presently ON THE ROSTER!!
Anyhow, I left a comment there in the past half hour. See if you guys can guess the identity of the one and only MR.
September 15th, 2010 at 3:26 pm
It should have been obvious when they were shuffling ol around the line and had rookies playing 3 different places that this line would suck. Whose idea was it to put Veldheer in at center? That is the most illogical move that could be made. Put the tallest guy on the team right in front of the qb so he can throw over the guy? then again, he can’t complete the snap in the first place because he hasn’t played center since he was in high school. Yeah, let’s start him at center on Sunday. Good move. Stupid!
September 15th, 2010 at 3:28 pm
Titans defensive tackle Jason Jones told the (Nashville) Tennessean that Campbell was leaning back a little bit before the snap on passing plays. That would partially explain the great jump the Titans were getting off the snap
– Vittorio Tafur

September 15th, 2010 at 3:34 pm
The thing is, Al did draft some OL prospects this year, but Cable is messing around and moving them around out of position. Regardless, putting them in as rookies isn’t going to solve anything, either. Our current OL woes are a direct result of years of ignoring the OL in the draft, signing others’ cast-offs in free agency, and installing a different blocking scheme every other year. Not that I’m saying anything everyone doesn’t already know…

I don’t know how good many of you felt last week before Sundays Game but you should have seen it coming. We start a guy that has no recent experience at center in the second hardest stadium to deal with crowd noise, Seattle the worst. Working with a QB in their first start. I see this so much in the N.F.L why keep your guys down in their stances so long. I would have kept it heavy run to start call a play run it. I mean its clear we can make some adjustments to help the tackles but we are not that talented yet to play in that environment. I do see a defensive line and middle line backer that looked ok. We let a big one go on a missed tackle because you have come under control when you try to tackle a talented back like CJ. I would not give up the ship yet, I think this team is better than what we saw. If Rolando McLain is the guy and I think he is we will bounce back. The concern I have with the offense is it doesn’t look like we try to free up the receivers for some quick easy throws. I can see the approach the Rams will deploy this week bring the heat and keep bringing the heat until Oakland shows they can counter that. If we cant block them in the passing game we have a major problem that the current coaching staff cant fix. RAIDEFFORLIFE
