Pears back on the roster

The Raiders predictably made a move to sign an offensive lineman Wednesday, although it wasn’t exactly an earth-shattering move.

Offensive tackle Erik Pears, released last week when the Raiders signed defensive tackle Jay Alford, was back in the locker room and said he signed Monday.

Pears said he worked out for the Seattle Seahawks on Monday.

The Raiders have made no annoucement regarding a transaction needed to make room for Pears.

Cable was non-committal about changes in the starting lineup this week. One may be necessary if left guard Robert Gallery is out after a hamstring pull sustained against Tenenssee.

More to come . . .

Does anyone have Jeff Fisher’s phone # to confirm the tips?

I sort of hate to see the cycle of domestic violence perpetuated, but part of me hopes someone gives Cable the open hand for his handling of the O-line.

    …………………..

That’s just it. Cable only hits women, or men half his size. He doesn’t fight, or even take a threatening tone, with men who are big like him. At least I haven’t seen it.

  • Just Fire Baby

I’m beginning to believe that Murphy may have worse hands than DHB.

Between the drops and fumbles, it is neck and neck these days.

  • priesttj

Mario is not a project Mario is too fat. It’s obvious we just don’t have what it takes up front. Cable is in for a long season of sweitching guy’s around to find a good mix.

This doesn’t feel good at all. It’s my worse fears coming true.

  • DMAC

    Post 96 anyone???^^^^^

  • memo

Agree with post# 102. If Cable really had anger issues, he would of laid out Al Davis long time ago.

  • http://aldavissucks.blogspot.com/ The Real MaddenRaider

Oh, the Titans were tipped off, alright.

They were tipped off to the fact that the Raiders only practice at full speed for about 10 minutes a day.

They were tipped off to the fact that Al Davis demands the offense try to get the ball to his track stars down field.

They were tipped off to the fact that the Raiders use man coverage even when they’re decomposing by it.

Yes, Fisher had tips. But they’re nothing new.

We can’t tell you who Finnegan was guarding because the action was around JC’s feet and in between his slides.

Hey Ws fans, sounds like Don Nelson might be out:

“The signals are strong: If the timing is right and the discussions progress, my belief is that Joe Lacob is planning to move on from Don Nelson and probably install Keith Smart as the Warriors’ interim coach for the coming season.”

Keith Smart…great guard….for the CBA’s Rapid City Thrillers!!!!!!!

  • http://blackhillsphoto.com/sturgis-weddings/black-hills-weddings.jpg Dakota

Keith Smart was a nice guy too…met him after a couple of games when I was a kid.

Rumor I just read: After trading Lawrence Maroney, the Pats will be targeting Mark Ingram in next year’s draft with the Raiders’ pick.

Ya, he’s still unsigned. But Howie’s boy might look like, uhhh, Howie against our tackles.

Raiders coach Tom Cable was coy about the Week 2 status of Michael Bush (thumb) Wednesday in a conference call with St. Louis reporters.

“We’re hopeful, but as of right now, we don’t know anything,” said Cable, who wouldn’t even call Darren McFadden his starter. Perhaps the Raiders would win some games if they were as concerned with roster building and game plans as they were with secretiveness. McFadden remains the heavy favorite to start and see the bulk of the workload. He’s a strong RB2 versus St. Louis.

So who gets the ax with the “addition” of Pears?

Tom Howard? Ricky Brown? Yamon? JLH? IR Chaz maybe?

  • priesttj

That’s the best news I’ve heard in weeks I can’t stand Don Nelson. I’m not sure who they should get but I’m just glad he’s gone if he is. They must have paid him to leave.

  • Just Fire Baby

Tyvon Branch was asked to make an average play and failed.

Others would have had to make an exceptional play.

He failed at his job more than anyone else on that play.

    He should he was awful.

Silver and Black Pride ran an article saying Alford was alright and didn’t hurt the team but that was blatantly and patently FALSE.

Young scorched us for a big run with Alford in and he got burned on RB Javon Ringers untouched 15 yd TD run.

    Alford need go bye bye…

Why are we even debating the run D? I mean do you expect any better out of a John Marshall run defense? For the vast majority of his career he has fielded bottom 1/3 ranked run defenses.

Garbage coach in, garbage product out.

    Shouldn’t be any surprises here!

He did but there were 2 ridiculous holds on that play. One on Seymour right out in the open and another on Groves.

Ty should’ve made the play but never should’ve been in that position.

**** refs all game. Horrible. No excuse for bad play, but still…

With that kind of holding allowed by Titan O line, CJ will get to 2,000 again.

Raiders should take note on hwo to get away with such cheating and tricekry. Our O line needs all the help it can get!

Garbage coach in (Cable), garbage play out.

Garbage coach in (Sanjay Lal), garbage WR play out.

Garbage coach in (Fassell Jr), garbage special teams play out.

Al needs to understand that the days of getting by with crappy head coaches are long over. It takes more than talented players these days.

    Raiders re-signed OT Erik Pears.

Pears will resume pushing Khalif Barnes at “swing” tackle. Neither would be a good option if LT Mario Henderson or RT Langston Walker went down, though the latter two aren’t strong performers in the first place.

“Swing Tackle”??? Can someone elaborate please?

  • RNOraiderFan

I thought Marshall had a good D in Seattle and thats the reason we got him. I guess I’m wrong because I havn’t seen anything good out of our D.

    +++++++++++++

The hold on Seymour was especially egregious. The guy basically wrapped his arm around his neck. You can see Seymour throw his hands up trying to get the ref to see it.

  • aig-raiders

Wow. Please let it be true that we finally get rid of the cancer Nelson.

  • Carl Weathers

You think Alford will be cut for Pears when he was just picked up last week, for Pears?

C’mon guys, that would make the organization look silly! ;^)

Alford isn’t going anywhere, he’s a DT that can rush the passer!

If you look on the Raiders website and click on Lal’s name, you’ll see he never actually coached wide receivers before he was hired by Oakland.

Swing tackle is generally the term used for a backup who can be plugged in on either side

    Right, I know …
