It’s official: Rams-Raiders blacked out locally
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Thursday, September 16th, 2010 at 2:31 pm in Oakland Raiders.
The Raiders announced tickets had not sold out 72 hours in advance and the game would be blacked out locally.
The grisly details:
– Eight straight blackouts, the last home televised game being last season’s 24-20 loss to San Diego in Week 1.
– First blackout of a home opener since 2004, when the Raiders drew 53,610 for a 13-10 win over Buffalo. Subsequent home openers against Kansas City, San Diego, Detroit, Denver and then San Diego again were all televised locally.
Note: In a previous post, I mistakenly said the Detroit game had been blacked out. It was televised locally.
– The Raiders have had 44 games on television and 77 blackouts since moving back to Oakland in 1995.
More to come . . .

No wonder Campbell reminds Al of Jim Plunkett from 1980:
Plunkett: 51.6 com %, 18 TDs, 16 ints, 36 sacks
September 16th, 2010 at 2:34 pm
Awesome. So I can watch the game when I get out of work now!
September 16th, 2010 at 2:34 pm
Move back to LA.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:34 pm
2nd
September 16th, 2010 at 2:34 pm
We already knew it was goin to be blacked out…Ppl arent going to pay an arm and a leg to go watch games if they get beat by 25 points
September 16th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
Is there a website where blackouts can be tracked?
September 16th, 2010 at 2:35 pm
Pito
September 16th, 2010 at 2:36 pm
Wonder how many tickets were left
September 16th, 2010 at 2:37 pm
I wish the game was blacked out here.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:37 pm
I think Jerry said they have a season-ticket base of 23,000.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:38 pm
The only good news that will probably come from this game.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:39 pm
Irwindale anybody?
September 16th, 2010 at 2:40 pm
This team needs to get there butt in gear because im gonna be mad if I have to change my user name.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:40 pm
Al must feel like such a fool. He jets out of LA a little too soon. He could have had LA all to himself going into the internet boom economy. He easly would have gotten financing for a new stadium.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:41 pm
The Raiders game is blacked out,,,,hmm,,thats a first. Put ‘em in a high school stadium & maybe they’ll sell out the game then,,afterall they DID look like a high school football team last Sunday anyway.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:42 pm
Raiders won’t do any better in LA. Attendance was poor the last time they were there. After the honeymoon’s over, attendance will be as dismal in LA as it is here, as long as Al’s in charge. Then again, if Al weren’t in charge, the Raiders could win here and sell tickets. And the Raidres sold out A LOT more games when we won between 2000-2002 than they do now, and that was under the old ticket prices, which were much higher.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:42 pm
there are 10,000,000 rea$on$ why Irwindale doe$n’t want the Raider$ back
September 16th, 2010 at 2:44 pm
Why change your user name, purple? You could blame Russell for the team losing for the next 5 years and you’ll have a lot of company. Hell, we’ve got a couple of Davis die hards in here still blaming Gruden!
September 16th, 2010 at 2:44 pm
I think Dell should buy out Al Davis!
September 16th, 2010 at 2:45 pm
Easy way to double your season ticket sales, maybe even sell out: Hire Gruden as Head Coach.
Whether you like it or not Davis, lots of Raider fans would love to see this. Only you and your homers don’t want this to happen.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:46 pm
I’m looking forward to the home opener. Does anyone know the weather for game day yet?
September 16th, 2010 at 2:48 pm
Gruden’s Al’s only hope of getting out of the cellar. It’s a shame to see him doing MNF while Barney Rubble is roaming our sidelines. Just unexplainable.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:48 pm
Coincidentally, I’ve blacked out during 8 of the last Raider games.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:49 pm
they are giving out free pot at every home game!
September 16th, 2010 at 2:50 pm
This just in:
Cable has officially canceled his “No Knuckleheads” policy.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:51 pm
I agree with all of the post about Gruden. If we were to get him back the coliseum would be sold out and we would be winning.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:56 pm
Gruden will be coaching the Cowboys next season. Mark my words.
Another hand-on owner, but not nearly as bad as Al Davis.
No way Gruden comes back to Oakland.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:58 pm
Jerry, how about a list of all the blacked out games this week-end.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:58 pm
Im still debating if I should go I will feel like an idiot if I buy tix and they get their as whooped again. Its hard enough watching them get whootped on on TV. It really hurt when you coughed up $ to see the disaster.
September 16th, 2010 at 2:58 pm
Spokane Raiders, baby!
September 16th, 2010 at 2:58 pm
Yes!!!!!!…we love it!!!!!
September 16th, 2010 at 2:59 pm

September 16th, 2010 at 3:00 pm
I do believe every one figures Raiders will defeat the Rams, it just that the game is the Rams vs. Raiders.
not exactly two teams that light it up on a national level either.
September 16th, 2010 at 3:01 pm
I miss the persona Gruden had as a Raiders coach. But I just can’t imagine him returning to the Silver and Black as a Head football coach.
September 16th, 2010 at 3:02 pm
Raiders are becoming the Chicago Cubs, only instead of being beloved we are becoming laughed at and irrelevant.
Raiders need to play with fire.
Raiders need a real head coach.
September 16th, 2010 at 3:02 pm
I hope they dont even bring in any cameras to the game…that would be great!
September 16th, 2010 at 3:04 pm
Bunch of us going to Rickys after the game,…brian said Gruden might be there…you shut ins should be there,..watch SNF at rickys…you are allowed out ya?…lol
September 16th, 2010 at 3:04 pm
The Chargers game is Blacked out this weekend as well, so thats nice to know,,now all I need to see on ESPN’s bottom line is Phillip Rivers tearing an ACL in his knee, then my day would be fufilled.
September 16th, 2010 at 3:06 pm
Blackout ?? Now why would that happen?? I mean after our stellar performance last week….I don’t get it. Oh well, since I actually go to games ( I like to witness the carnage firsthand) blackouts have no effect on me. Go Raiders !!!
September 16th, 2010 at 3:07 pm
Gruden would have to be black balled by every other NFL team before he would consider coming to Oakland. Imagine the first time Sean Peyton and Gruden met before a Raiders-Saints game.
Peyton: He coach, you told me to stay the F away from the job!
Gruden: I know, I know. But hey, I kinda know how to handle the idiot upstairs, so we’ll see how it works out. But did you see the long-snapper he made us draft in the 3rd round last April? Sheesh. I’ll do what I can though!
September 16th, 2010 at 3:09 pm
If they lose to the Rams @ home its officialy time to hit the panic button.
September 16th, 2010 at 3:13 pm
Iv never been affected by a blackout,..nor has any fans in the bay area,…if they want to see the game they can,..real easy,..nobody misses a game that wants to see it,..all that said, us at the games, we love hearing that it isnt shown locally…and if you cant afford to attend a football or baseball or basketball game,..you have bigger problems then the Raiders have,…good luck with that. By the way, making my final score prediction tomorrow,…seeing how I am the champ, you all better pay attention. Peace.
September 16th, 2010 at 3:18 pm
Norco Bob LOOOOOOVES the archaic NFL Blackout Policy and so does the old looney man Al Davis! hahaha
September 16th, 2010 at 3:19 pm
Norco lives alone in a trailer and sells his food stamps and foregoes paying child support so that he can afford to go to the Raiders games.

September 16th, 2010 at 3:27 pm
Sadly, they could use the set up the A’s use, with the upper deck seats covered with tarps, and 1/2 the seats in Mt. Davis folded up and still have trouble selling out….
September 16th, 2010 at 3:28 pm
When you have no other alternative, but still want to live in America, you go to the Dakotas…thats a fact, not an opinion. Sorry bud.
September 16th, 2010 at 3:29 pm
I just can’t get over an NFL quarterback being too cowardly to run for a first down.

Sterling Sharpe? Brian Baldinger?

September 16th, 2010 at 3:43 pm
KK,I’ll see the game one way or another, the black-out doesn’t really bother me.I’d just like to know how big the black-out problem is affecting the whole league. With ticket prices the way they are and the economy in the mess it is in,how is it affecting all the teams.Just general information that is all.
September 16th, 2010 at 3:44 pm
Now you’re a “shut in” if you don’t blow your money on the Raiders. Good one, Bob.

And you wonder why people would rather be in Dakota. I’d rather have my teeth pulled than watch a bunch of spoiled, trust fund babies from the burbs get drunk and moronic at a Raider game. That comment was the best advertisement to move to the country I’ve ever seen. Real estate agents across the pan handle should copy and paste it to their web pages.

Goodell admitted that the NFL is aware that ticket sales are decreasing this year.
September 16th, 2010 at 3:50 pm
KK,as a fan of the league,I’d like to know.Is it becoming a league wide problem or is it isolated to a few cities? Will the league have a problem if black-outs become more frequent in many cities? How might they affect the CBA being negotiated? These are just a few of the questions fans could be concerned about.
September 16th, 2010 at 3:50 pm
Upload the game for free at…

September 16th, 2010 at 3:56 pm
The blacouts are a League Wide problem actually.
Even some good teams have problems selling out home games unless the team picks up the tab and gives the tickets away….which good and bad teams do….like the Niners and Chargers so they can lift the blackout last minute.
Teams that do not consistently sell out home games unless the team picks up the tab:
Miami
Jacksonville
Rams
Carolina
Raiders
Buffalo
Tampa Bay
Chargers
Chiefs
Arizona
Atlanta
Niners
September 16th, 2010 at 4:07 pm
Would not be surprised in the least if we don’t sell out ONE game this year.. MAYBE the Colts game, but only because of their bandwagon fanbase and/or Peyton knob-gobblers..
September 16th, 2010 at 4:11 pm
Just announced on ESPN that the Chargers game is a blackout this weekend.
September 16th, 2010 at 4:32 pm
i think titans dont black out because the city promised sell out games in their agreement to bring the titans to nashville, so if you go to snatchville and stay, eat, and party you are paying for their tickets. one way or another. being the reason bud adams got told to get the fk out of houston. and i think the mayor told him to win a super bowl then we can talk, biatch.
September 16th, 2010 at 8:37 pm
I will watch the game i have sunday ticket. thats the best thing not living in oakland anymore. i live in temecula, ca. no blackout for me on sundays no matter where my boys play.
Go Raiders!!!!!!
September 16th, 2010 at 8:39 pm
We will win the game the offensive line will play better. Campbell will show why we traded for him. we should win the next 6 games before the bye week. the schedule looks good for us.
September 16th, 2010 at 8:41 pm
whats up with nick miller not returning punts i don’t like JLH returning kicks. we need punt returners like the chiefs, i mean the chumps.

I wouldn’t buy a ticket to watch them play either. I can barely stand to watch them for free on the internet. It’s painful.
September 17th, 2010 at 5:37 am
I cant believe fans dont go to the home opener. Living in the UK and being a Raider fan for 25 years i would LOVE to go to every single home game win or lose.
If somehow the Raiders started winning then all the fickle fans would go to the games. Yeah its frustrating losing but you cant just give up even after all this time. Look at Patriot fans, 1-15 under Rod Rust, didnt sell out games, the second they start winning they sell it out every week.
Stay strong, things will turn around (just hope soon)
