Seymour, Gallery absent

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, September 17th, 2010 at 10:57 am in Oakland Raiders.

Defensive tackle Richard Seymour and Robert Gallery were not accounted for as the Raiders began practice Friday, an indication that both players could be inactive because of hamstring injuries against the Rams Sunday.

Also missing was wide receiver Chaz Schilens (knee) and cornerback Walter McFadden (hamstring).

Safety Hiram Eugene, another player listed with a hamstring injury who was limited Thursday, was going through warmups with his right calf wrapped.

Running back Michael Bush, limited for the padded practice Thursday, was on the field.

Familiar face watching practice _ former Tampa Bay Buccanneers and Denver Broncos safety John Lynch. He’s doing color commentary for the Fox broadcast (blacked out in the Bay Area).

No, Lynch was not yelling out “Sluggo Seam!”

More to come . . .

The Raiders should right the ship this weekend.

They’re better than what they showed last Sunday.

Look, even when Russell was in there in last year’s opener, these guys were fired up. Henderson-Gallery-Morris-Coop-Cornbread were mauling SD’s front.

The only reason we stayed close is because SD was physically outmatched and our D was flying and the O was doing just enough with some good running from DMC and Bush and a a big play from Murphy (really two, but we won’t go there).

As soon as they went soft and started ‘thinking’ out there, SD gets a way-too-easy late drive to win.

We scrapped in the 1st KC game despite looking very ugly.

We scrapped in the 2nd KC game and nearly won (lost on a great Bruce pass that clanked off the hands-like-feet of DHB), even with Russell playing the 1st half.

We beat the Eagles. We beat the Steelers. We were competitive for 3.5 quarters against the Ravens.

    This team can play.

Getting rid of Russell was addition by subtraction.

As ridiculous as it may sound, the pummeling we received at the hands of the Titans could be the best thing to happen to the 2010 Raiders.

They read too many press clippings saying the Silver and Black were back.

    They were humbled.

Now, they’ve got a home opener against a weak(er) opponent and can get to 1-1, making it a 14 game season.

Just a little momentum is all a team needs.

The snowball effect can work either way…..

  4. LA to TheBay Says:

I’m sure Cable was ready to roll with the winner of Bruce v. Frye (AKA Alfred) in camp and Al interjected. Couldn’t roll with the short guy with the ‘weak’ arm.

Brought in a redemption project with the physical attributes he’s enamoured with.

Campbell looked good in preseason, even with protection breaking down.

I’m not willing to call him Batgirl just yet, but he’s definitely Robin.

Mario is also a worm. On that fumble he just watched. The ball was at his feet!

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    What?
Henderson made the touchdown saving tackle.

By accident of course, the recoverer actually ran into his legs while Mario was staring into space.

It took a trip to the replay booth to show that he had been touched while on the ground, or more accurately, ran into henderson’s socks while on the ground.

Thats what I’m saying! either he is heartless or retarded. Either way I don’t like any of these qualities in my QB. Its easier to be mad at him for haveing no heart. If he is just stupid then I feel sorry for the guy. Stupid is as stupid dose.

In Henderson’s defense, the Titan’s were constantly over the line ahead of the ball being snapped. A good head coach would have gotten that stopped.

LA To TheBay post 4. I agree. Davis revealed his feelings for Campbell with the Plunkett comment. I’m convinced he was behind it. Another hint was that JC said his understanding is that he was coming here as the starter. The coaches quickly said ‘no, it’s a competition’. Then came the Grads muscle tear and probably a call from upstairs and suddenly, surprise, JC is the starter. The muscle tear was just an excuse though. You don’t declare a winner based on injury.

  20. BART Bridge Blues Says:

The key to Sunday’s game needs to be establishing the run early. Cable has issued the challenge to his guys; he came right out and told the Rams they will be running the ball, and the OL needs to execute. With Henderson, Loper, Veldheer, Carlisle and Walker they should be able to push open some holes on any defensive line, that is a HUUUUGE O-line. If they can get McFadden loose early and often it will set up much easier play-actions and screens later in the game. Our problem in Tenn. was we came out slinging and the D-line (with help from the noise and refs) was looking for the screen and lived in our backfield the whole game. Once they got the lead, then they knew we were passing, so the pressure was even fiercer. Got a keep them hesitant with the run, from the very first offensive snap. Whether or not the line can produce remains to be seen. Even in garbage time last week, the offense failed to do much of anything. Hopefully that is something they can fix, but I am on the record as saying this will be a low scoring Raiders LOSS.

I predict a score of 13-6 Rams, Cable spins his post-game press conference as the Raiders D was so stout, and the offense is “figuring some things out”, Cable gone after week 4 with little fanfare and no overhead projecters, and Hue Jackson opens week 5 with a loss.

  21. RNOraiderFan Says:

If Cable said we are going top run it, then the first play of the game will be a bomb to DHB weather he is covered or not, incompleat.

    ————————————————-

With some renewed confidence in DMC, even if Bush doesn’t take the field, I think we can get something going.

The passing attack should consist of quick-hitters and the occasional deep shot. Our athletic TE and FB need to get the ball waaay more than last week.

We all know what happens on game day though. Al would rather lose trying to stretch the field and play man free than win dinking and dunking and playing zone blitz.

I figured after the whole Russell debacle, Cable woulda been in his ear more, like Chucky was able to do.

  52. BART Bridge Blues Says:

Lowered Expectations, but I didnt see much going on with that offense, even after it was 31-3 and the Titans defense had stopped caring (and stopped jumping offsides). They seemed pretty dynamic in the pre-season, but if that was just a mirage then this could be another long season.

There are just so many stories out there now about how crappy Campbell is gonna be for us. Before the season it was all about how he was an instant upgrade over JR, now all the writers are jumping on the “all he does is checkdown” bandwagon. Having never watched a Redskins game myself, since Jason joined the league I have to trust the opinion of others, and there are too many mixed signals out there. If he is the next Plunkett, somebody on the coaching staff needs to get him loose and mentally ready to air it out. Even Al won’t stick with JC for long if he WON’t make the long throws, despite having all the physical tools to do so.

  53. Bauce 4 Real Says:

Yeah well JLH a catch and a completion last week in limited time. Last year when they played him and threw to him he did fine. JLH the man and he damn sure showed in preseason he ready now if only Hue wakes up

Considering J-Camp has a natural tendency for checkdowns and screens, this could be a good scenario.

The worst that could happen is if the Rams get good pressure rushing only four, leaving seven men in coverage. If such is the case, we must run the ball.

Agreed. The Titans were getting away with some holding.

It reminded of the Raider vs Niner preseason game. The Niners were getting away with holding early on and late.

If the opposing teams O-Line is getting away with holding, than Cable needs to be jumping all over the refs about it from the get go.

    …………………………….

    YOU ARE A F’N LIAR!!!

THEY WERE NOT “THINKING” TOO MUCH ON SD’S WINNING DRIVE. THEY WERE IN AL’S INFAMOUS PREVENT DEFENSE. SD ONLY NEEDED A FIELD GOAL AND WE WERE IN A PREVENT JUST LETTING THEM MARCH DOWNFIELD. IT WAS THE WORST DEFENSIVE STRATEGY EVER, AND ITS ONE AL DAVIS HAS DIED BY FOR YEARS. KEEP LYING

Doesn’t really seem like it, but it’s early.

He had a bad one on the 1st drive coming in cold off the bench. But he deserves a lot of credit for the last drive. He was under constant pressure on the road against Denver’s front four and throwing against seven guys. He took a lot of hits but kept getting up and making big plays. Look at the supposed next great QBs like Matt Ryan and Mark Sanchez in week one. Both had chances to win the game on the final possession and pissed down their legs. JR did it on multiple occasions with the Raiders. I’m just saying you shouldn’t get caught up in the “addition-by-subtraction” and “leadership qualities” cliches the media is always selling.
