Raiders reading material

A few items worth looking over with the Raiders home opener less than 24 hours away:

— Monte Poole on why the Oakland Heart Walk has a special significance to former Raiders safety and TV/radio analyst George Atkinson.

— Columnist Carl Steward has some thoughts on the Raiders’ blackout situation before moving on to other things.

— Raiders coach Tom Cable expects to see a heavy dose of running back Steven Jackson Sunday. An article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch carries a similar theme, with Jackson being complimentary about the Raiders run defense against Tennessee, noting that for the most part it kept Chris Johnson in check.

— Steve Corkran takes a closer look at the much-maligned run defense and if it is too early to rush to judgement.

— The Rams downgraded two players before boarding a flight for Oakland. Cornerback Kevin Dockery (hamstring) and defensive tackle Clifton Ryan (migraines) will not play.

— Former Raiders defensive end Jay Richardson has no harsh words for his former employer and is looking for a new team after reaching an injury settlement.

— St. Louis rookie left tackle Rodger Saffold held up well in Week 1 against Arizona. He’ll get a heavy dose of Trevor Scott and Matt Shaughnesy Sunday.

Raiderville makes its return in the south parking lot before Sunday’s game against the Rams.

— Two new ways to travel to the game aside from BART or your own car – the ACE train and Capitol Corridor.

— New sponsor areas on game days include the New Amsterdam Gin Bar at the East Side Club south bar and the Hennessey Black West Side Club at the West side club.

Casserly is coming up. Last year he started about 10 minutes into the hour.

NFL.com Irvin just said Jerry Jones does not call plays down like Sapp says Al does.
That’s because the first 20 plays are scripted and Jerry Jones has been seen with the laminated playlist in his hands up in the box.

  • Off for something to eat…

    Have a great Sunday everyone.

    Well said.

Watch the wheels come off if we lose today. Must win. I have a feeling we’ll be lucky to squeak by, as this team is still trying to level off and find an identity.

  • Just Fire Baby

The key today will be Jason Campbell.

Can’t win in the NFL, with unspired and turnover prone play from your QB.

  • Plunketthead

Our last 6 games will be real tough

  • Where is the Muslim joke, and was it funny?

Casserly did not have much today. After CC I switched to fox to hear Glazer. Some times he has good info.

Both of thme helped my FF game last year

So, it’s here. I don’t know if I should be excited or dreading what is about to take place. I really don’t like the mood this team puts me in. I realize that I am too emotionally involved with this game and the silver and black. Not to mention the time wasted sitting on my arse watching the traveling circus, as I tell myself things will get better. And in the end the only found memories I have of this team go back to when I was a kid (along with the short stint with Gannon).

If these guys lay an egg today, I’m done. You can call the season. I’ll still bleed the silver and black but I’ll refuse to watch this bumbling Jerry Springer organization. Maybe my Sundays will become more productive. I doubt it though, I usually just switch to different games anyway.

Prove me wrong Raiders, how about going out and do what you get paid to do? If you want to continue being the doormat of the NFL you are on par for the course.

    Wassup O!

    5k enough to get started?

  • kidseven

Question: If JC doesn’t perform well at home against the Rams D, why did we get him? Can we start calling for Grads if JC doesn’t step up today? I expect JC will step up, but I’m just asking.

  • I’m in Livermore, I’ll be Oakland in 30 min!!
    Oh Yeah!!!!!

  • BornInOakland

    I LOVE the NFL!!!
Raiders are blacked out and the niners play tomorrow, so what is our TV selection here in the Bay Area today? Two 10:00 A.M. games on FOX and CBS and NO games at 1:00 P.M. A Sunday afternoon in September and no NFL football. Almost friggin’ un-American.

  • Plunketthead

I would repeat it but I dont want to get banned right before the Raider open a can of whup arse

    gotta email?

Same crap happened to me last year here in AZ except every Card game was played so that only left one or two games. Big markets get the big games small markets have to take the second fiddle game

    Sunday Ticket

  • Can it be reposted without the word muslim?

  • J,

It’s more than enough. You need 3-4K.

Bush and cowboy are sitting at bar
Bush says he is gonna take away welfare from 100 million white Americans and one big chested black girl

Cowboy says why one big chested black gal?
Bush turns to bartender and says, ” see I told you noone carse about 100 million white americans

  • I’ll try to be more politically correct.

President Bush, decides to leave the Ranch and go out to sit in a local Crawford bar. A guy walks in and asks the barman, ‘Isn’t that Bush sitting at the end of the bar?’
The bartender says, ‘Yep, that’s him.’ So the guy walks over and says, ‘Wow, this is a real honor! What are you doing in here?’
Bush says, ‘ I’m planning WW III.’
The guy says, ‘Really? What’s going to happen?’
Bush says, ‘Well, I’m going to kill 140 mil goobers and one blonde with big t*ts.
The guy exclaimed, ‘A blonde with big tits?
Why kill a blonde with big t*ts?’
Bush turns to the bartender and says,
‘See, I told you, no one gives a sh*t about the 140 mil goobers’

  • aig-raiders

Today is a strange day. If we win, we shouldnt get too excited because the Rams are not that good. If we lose, we are F’d. My hunch say we will dominate on the D today. The O is another story.

  • Ex,

I like Muslim jokes, so I wanted to hear it. Isn’t that a sense of humor?!
Why can’t a Muslim have a sense of humor? I like jokes!

  • Good job Plunketthead!!! LMFAO

  • Plunketthead

You will have to play with the words but its easy to get the gist of the joke

  • Plunketthead

    Forgive me for saying this

but Vick would put up lots of points behind the O

  • I grew up un the Don Rickles era where you insulted everyone equally. Today you must be politically correct.

  • Just Fire Baby

My first year with the Sunday Ticket, so far so good.

Not quite like going down to the Hilton in Vegas, where you can literally watch a ton of almost every game at once, but I can handle it.

  • Vegas,

    Very sensitive.
Kids are shooting other kids at school because of name-calling, bullying, etc…

  • Just Fire Baby

I think I am going to watch the Chiefs-Browns game.

  • Just Fire Baby

  • Plunketthead

Browns will probaly shut down KC
I doubt they are as good as that first game.
The pouring rain combined with the usual discharge slow start (except for last years monday game helped them.

  • Just Fire Baby

Looks like the Kevin Kolb era is going to last all of about one half.

  • J Hill

I can’t see them giving up on Kolb quite so soon.
