Lawton’s contract terminated

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, September 20th, 2010 at 3:03 pm in Oakland Raiders.

The contract of fullback Luke Lawton was terminated Monday after he was reinstated by the NFL following a four-game suspension for violating the league policy on performance enhancing drugs.

Lawton missed the final two games of the 2009 season and the first two games of the 2010 season on suspension. He went to training camp with the team in Napa.

Marcel Reece has emerged as the starting fullback in Lawton’s absence and Manase Tonga is currently on the practice squad.

Asked at the end of his press briefing if the Raiders had to make a decision on Lawton this week, coach Tom Cable said, “I believe we do this week but I have not had a lot of thought on that. Those would be administrative issues that will be next this afternoon.”

Lawton’s name around that time was showing up on the NFL wire as having his contract terminated after reinstatement.

Lol, come on Jerry, you know by now that Cable doesn’t have a clue about what Al is doing with the roster.

Herrera hands Cable the things he can talk about in the PC, and then he goes out there like a talking monkey.

  • RaiderRetribution

no sooner than I just mentioned it on one of Jerry’s previous blogs 2-3 minutes ago and that settles that

  • J Hill

Hue was TRIPPIN’ with the play calling late in the game.

1st and 10 with 4:22 to go up two scores he goes deep to DHB.

2nd and 10 PA rollout dropped pass to Miller.

3rd and 15 tipped pass out of the shotgun = INT.

Should’ve been running the clock out Hue!

The end of the Puke Lawton era……

Nobody caught a Jamarcus Russell 2 yard rifle pass like him.

  • http://www.raiders.com/ IslandRaider

If Cable really knew his oline stinks and threw Campbell under the bus by putting in Grads (who knows how to manage that poor o-line), then more power to him. His job could have been on the line. I do believe that if JC sits awhile and returns, he could be a better QB in the long run. It’s possible.

Funny thing tho, the difference of play by someone who is handed something than from someone who has to earn it.

  • Just Fire Baby

I’ve been pretty solid on my “read between the lines” skills in regards to coach Cable.

Bruce will start, and Cable will not put a timetable on it. He will say he is the teams QB and that’s it.

Maybe Michael Bush should give up his dream and millions of dollars and allow the Raiders to convert him into a FB!

Gradkowski as the starter = more WINS!

    PERIOD!

I guess some of you “geniuses” are not smart enough to see that! LOL=============================================================
Campbell has had as many starts with this team as Grads, so this is apples to oranges. 6 quarters of football is not enough to make a fair judgment!

    ^^^^^^^^
    Huh?

I guess you forgot what Grads did last year when he was in there?

  • DKnight007

Hue needs to pound the rock with both DMC and Bush next week and then throw screens and then use play action roll outs and throw intermediate to deep passes.

The Cards run defense is WEAK, they got rolled over yesterday both Turner and Snelling??

The backup QB always seems to be a favorite of Raiders’ fans….we’ll see what tune you guys are playing about Bruce after about three starts…

Some of you probably thought Tui was the man too!

  • Just Fire Baby

I don’t remember Tui winning any games.

Bruce has had 3 come from behind wins in Oakland, makes Tom CAble look smart, and DHB look like a good WR.

That’s a pretty impressive resume on itself.

They already scaled back the playbook for this week, and Campbell still didn’t recognize the play he was suppossed to be in?

Just don’t see how he can be the starter not knowing the plays.

STILL shoulda been up at least 13-7 at the half.

  • RaidingTexas

Agree, Jhill, about why wasn’t Hue just trying to run time off. I made that very point during the 4th quarter yesterday:

the only diff Dakota with those names you mentioned is they didnt win us any games like Grad has. Stop the hate already man.

Dmac has broken through 2 games in the past 3 years and we doubters are already giving him props. While you Garbagekowski folks refuses to acknowledge that Bruce Almighty is a legit starter for the Raiders. All he does is win games.

Dont believe him. PBT says the Nets are the front runnner.

  • priesttj

Boy! Mike Singletary has his ahnds full tonite. He runs his muth so much he is doing sort of what Rex Ryan is doing on a smaller scale. Bad thing is his team isn’t nearly as good as the Jets and he isn’t nearly the coach Ryan is. Toniteit’s put up or shut up time. Beat NO and you can talk all you want lose badly and it’s time to quiet down a bit.

Yeah, but I wonder why he would make up a story like that out of the blue if there was absolutely no truth to it at all.

I know that the Warriors are one of the teams in contention to get him.

Revis, who was limited in practice last week with tightness in the hamstring, immediately grabbed at his leg after Randy Moss(notes) made a spectacular one-handed, 34-yard touchdown grab with 53 seconds left in the first half of New York’s 28-14 win over New England.

Now if Nnamdi wants to be regarded as the best he has to successfully guard Fitzgerald and neutralize him.

Start JC let him tie his own rope. Bring in Grads at the first site of trouble. Sit Bush another week.

    Seabass is on notice!

  • aig-raiders

Since Plunkett, only the following Raiders have made us competitive.

    Hostetler
    Gannon
    Bruce

I think we went to the AFC Championship inspite of Jay Shroeder.

  • TheyCallMeAssassin

As good as the performances were by Bruce and DHB in the second quarter, both of them are going to have to improve if the Raiders plan on beating the Cards.

6 catches on 13 targets (despite being mugged on a couple of them) is not good enough.

50% completion percentage is not good enough.

Those guys put together a solid second half against an equal opponent. But let’s face it, most teams in the NFL are simply more talented than the Raiders are. It’s time for this team to do what it hasn’t done in years, and follow up one victory with another. Hopefully the next one will be more convincing.

  • TheyCallMeAssassin

You just can’t win ugly all the time. Play sloppy, and teams like the Colts and Chargers will make you pay.

Yeah…Revis after all his moaning and whining about not being the highest paid CB….gets beat bad and pulls a hammy and just to rub it in….Moss makes a one handed stab!

Nice….but I’m glad the Jets beat the Pats though!

I can’t believe some fools are still calling for Campbell.

Gradkowski takes less than 3 seconds to make a decision where to throw the ball.

    That’s the difference.

Gradkowski is better suited for OUR offense then Campbell.

How do you compensate for a weal o-line as a QB?

You make quick, accurate, decisive reads, and get rid of the ball quickly.

    =================================================

Precisely. It’s so simple yet so difficult for some folks to understand. The difference between Bruce and Jason can be summed up on that 3rd and 7 with 3 minutes left and our offense badly needing a first to keep the Rams offense off the field. Blitz up the middle with a guy coming through clean. Bruce immediately lofted the ball before Murphy was into his cut and knew exactly where to put it. First Down! Move those chains!

Campbell would have taken the sack or spiked the ball, and all these clowns would be up in arms over our Oline.

  • TerrapinRaider

Bruce should start. Campbell just has no anticipation and that was the knock on him in Washington – hold the ball when it should have already been released (i.e. he’s late).

Bruce should be given his chance to start.

If Bruce screws up bad or gets hurt than put JC back in and see what he does.

There is controversy no matter what, Cable is just a moron.

I think Campbell gets the start at Arizona, but will have a very short leash. Unless we win by a significant margin, they find an excuse to bring Grads back as starter for the Houston game at home. Nothing worse than the home town fans booing your starting QB and chanting for the back-up. The team feeds of that negative energy as well.

Campbell’s best opportunity to get his act together will be on the road, behind a McFadden-heavy game plan in Phoenix.
    @@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

best thread ive read regarding our QB situation…i feel the same way… cambpell has got to get confidence has a better chance on an away game where the crowd wont be chanting brrrrrrruuuccceee at every screw up..
