Gradkowski on “Into the Night”
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Tuesday, September 21st, 2010 at 11:32 am in Oakland Raiders.
A transcription of an interview with Raiders quarterback Bruce Gradkowski on “Into the Night” with Tony Bruno, courtesy of Sports Radio Interviews.com:
On whether or not he thinks he will start this weekend:
Gradkowski: You never know. I just have to be prepared and keep working like I’ve been. If my number gets called again, I’ll just come in there and try and do what I did the other night. The fans are awesome. The way that stadium was rocking the other day was unbelievable and I love those fans more than they even know.
On whether or not he thinks the fans might’ve influenced Tom Cable’s decision:
Gradkowski: I don’t know if they influenced coach or not, but I think they just wanted to see what I could do and if I could give us a spark. I was very fortunate that we played well in the second half. Our guys were playing well. The young guys, Darrius (Heyward-Bey) and Louis (Murphy) had a great game and along with Darren McFadden, he played tough. Our offensive line was playing tough like they always do. It was a really good effort on all parts of the offense and our whole team. Our defense, some of the hits they made in the second half were unbelievable.
On what his favorite nickname is:
Gradkowski: Yeah. I really don’t care. I like hearing them all. I like that Bruce Almighty, that’s pretty sweet. Anything they say, that’s cool with me. I just go with the flow. It was definitely exciting hearing the fans chant my name and it was a good day and hopefully more to come.
On when he thinks he will know about starting:
Gradkowski: Yeah. You probably should know by Wednesday. Jason is a good quarterback. We have a good quarterback room, we’re in this together, we all have the same goal and that’s to win and win a championship this year. It’s going to be tough but we need to focus and do whatever it takes to do that.
On whether he thinks he has been given a fair shot to start in Oakland:
Gradkowski: Yeah I’d like to think that. You always want to compete and do the best you can to be the starter. It was very unfortunate the injuries I had over this past offseason. I can’t control that. It was hard for me to really compete for the starting job when I wasn’t out there. We acquired Jason, he’s a good quarterback and we just have to get things rolling and get on the right track this year.

my wife got mad at me on Saturday because we had rented a movie and got a Degiorno pizza for lunch, but HER brother called and asked if I could go down to the river and help him put his cabin on blocks. I skipped lunch and spent ALL friggin day helping him dig gravel, dirt and move cement blocks. we got finished just before dark and when I got home she was p1ssed because she had to be bored at home while I was away.
I said “YOUR brother needed MY help”. haha. oh well, chalk it up to pregnant hormones I guess

Mistic, Cable’s best moves BY FAR as head coach have been to bench the owner’s lost cause tall, big-armed quarterback.
Campbell just happens to be a nicer guy and can put sentences together.
I’m sure the team is behind Grad. The only reason Campbell got the job anyway was because 1. Bruce was injured and 2. he’s a pet project.
Why are we waiting for this guy to develop and reach his ceiling when we have a developed guy on the roster who ALREADY HAS a chemistry with the team?
In other words, you’re saying:
Well Jason has a higher ceiling because, um… he’s taller with a bigger arm. So let’s start him despite the ineffectiveness over the guy who is already playing well.
Again, Nation, Campbell is not a rookie.
He doesn’t have the vision by now, doubt he ever will.

DHB and Luis Murphy I’m sure really like getting the ball and they have shown what they can do when Bruce is in there.
I know Luis has had a couple of key drops already this season but its no secret that his best game came with Bruce at the helm at it appears the trend will continue unless Cable is overriden.
Cable’s gotten in Al’s ear before and he can do it again.
September 21st, 2010 at 11:40 am
You guys are goofy. BOTH quarterbacks are pretty servicable, and by playing each of them we are just improving our odds that one will take the reins and become great.
Like I typed earlier, Campbell must react well to this lesson and play better because Gradkowski is likely to keep getting it done.
In no way is this going to divide the locker room. Cable handled the JRuss situation and kept the team unified. He will make sure the players know that QB is open for competition just like every other non-kicking spot.

I don’t know about the lockeroom but it has strangely divided the Raider Nation.
It must be a fear of Gradkowski’s physical stature and arm strength more than an endorsement of Campbell’s talent as obviously, he is not a rookie and has reels and reels of tape showing poor play.

Quick note on the idea that Campbell needs time to develop. What about the WR’s? They are starving for development time and game experience with Campbell under center. With Grads, they are getting the ball and getting opportunities to make catches, and gain YAC. Developing Campbell during a lost cause season sounds OK in theory, but not when his development hamstrings the development of 5 other guys on the roster. I am OK with whomever we roll with on Sunday, but I hope it is for the right reasons, not development. We have been “developing” for 7 years, its time this team gets a “win now” attitude, even if they don’t yet have a “win now” skill set.
September 21st, 2010 at 11:46 am
Gradkowski’s throws didn’t look that weak to me. Certainly zippier than Gannon or Stabler. I think it is the side arm thing that worries…too many tips. But the kid is very accurate and his timing is right.

“The Raiders should be favored to win the AFC West and to reach the AFC championship game, if for no other reason than the amount of money they committed to their 53 players this season.
The Raiders are on the hook for $135.2 million, second only to the New York Jets ($135.7) among AFC teams and well ahead of division rivals San Diego ($108 million), Denver ($102.9 million) and Kansas City ($84.5 million).
The Washington Redskins lead the way at $178.2 million, with the Raiders seven spots back. The three other AFC West teams are in the bottom eight.”

Saints are over-rated, they look a little lost on offense this year. Losing to them at home, was not the moral victory that 9er fans would like to think it is. Their entire offense revolves around Frank Gore, just like the Rams with Steven Jackson. One dimensional teams get popped in the post-season, if they even make it that far.

Once you took the Longs out of the equation there were four basic factions back then: Those who wanted McFadden, those who wanted Dorsey, those who wanted Gholston and those who wanted Ellis. Only those that wanted Ellis have even one leg to stand on right now.
The number of people who claim to have wanted Ryan Clady at #4 (please, no silly trade back scenarios please) seems to have grown AFTER the draft, but very few of them actually can post proof of a comment wherein they actually said that.

Surely there are questions about his ability to cover. I personally don’t think we’ve seen enough of him to make that assessment. I know Branch has struggled, biting hard on play fakes.

Yes sir, MM played rather well late last year, mostly blitzing the Qb. Although he whiffed twice on Roethlisberger, he still was disruptive late. He gave up a TD against Washington on a goal line package, and a couple short receptions against Baltimore.
That being said, I feel he deserver a series or two, just to give Branch a little breather. Branch has been a little slow to react, and maybe fatigue is a part of it.
I know the guy wants to be physical and hit people, and that type of thing is know to fire a defense up. We must give him some time..
How was his coverage during the preseason. I get those games only when replayed on NFL network. By then I already know the result, and won’t usually watch. If they were live I would. I do not miss a minute of the regular season, it costs me too much $$. So, please enlighten me guys, how was MM’s coverage in the preseason, or were the looks limited?

New England,
I didn’t notice any glaring mistakes by Mitchell (on a 49ers TD, although I don’t believe it was his “area” of the zone, he was wandering around lost).
He did knock the piss out of Forsett in the last preseason game.
Everything with him needs to be downhill. He plays well moving forward, but backpadeling and moving the hips is not his gig.

I saw the hit. I had read about it, so I youtubed it. When I looked there was one lousy version of it, but I did see it. That is a major problem for me. That is Hi Eugene playing over MM. Brown, I’ve heard nothing but great things about him so, I am all for getting a look at him as well.
Eugene doesn’t do anything. Can’t tackle, can’t cover, and that stiff arm from last year was pathetic. it was more like a b!tch slap. Even Eugene playing over Huff at times last year was killing me. Why do they do this?
September 21st, 2010 at 1:26 pm
In all seriousness, two things I have been money on as of late with the Raiders, are QB situations and draft pick/plans.
Two things I have been terrible at, RB predictions and roster cuts.
So if I am talking about the QB or the draft, listen closely. If I am talking about the RB or some guy being cut, pay no attention.

really?
I thought Thomas Howard played pretty well on Sunday (surprise!)
——-
THow played good on Sunday, but I think Mitchell would work in the same roll as a blitzer, and should be at least as good in coverage as howard. I think MM34 needs to see 5-10 snaps a game because big time hits definitely ignite the defense, and if he hits a qb expect a fumble for sure!

Part of me thinks that Campbell needs more time with the offense to make it click. But, then the other part of me seeing him run a couple of botched plays, not going for more, or knowing how to slide tells me were are better without him. Bruce and Boller have looked dependable so far.
Not that I have 4.5 million to spare, but I would keep JC on for this year to see how he rises to the challenges to his abilities, just as Grad and Boller have to their abilities. But, I’d give him a couple more weeks to do so or adios. Then put that money into some insentives to get our O to practice and perform better.

Houston/Henderson/Kelly/Seymour sounds real good to me as well.
Bottom line is Henderson needs to start, and either Kelly or Seymour should play end.
That stops the run.
Several of us, including me and Brien have been preaching that sermon from the minute we picked up Henderson.
Playing Seymour and Kelly as the two D tackles on first and second down, does NOT stop the run.

491 yards & 3 TD’s combined in those games (not earth shattering #’s which surprises me) but the Saints are still 2-0

SevereRaiderz, glad to see you here. Hopefully you’re in a better mood. So, your reason that we should start Campbell is that we can just bench him if he plays bad? Well, wouldn’t that apply to everyone? Couldn’t we just start a cheerleaders, and bench her if she played bad? Is there any other reason you have to start Campbell? Like, I dunno, by listing any examples as to how he’s better than Gradkowski? Is that just it? Play him and yank him if he does bad?

We try something new with Gruden, and our win total increases 100% from the previous season.

Only one positve can come from starting grads over the enxt few weeks. He will be exposed for who he really is. A very good number 2 tha can surprise a team or two and maybe steal a win or two be fore d coordinators game plan against him. This will finally kill all of the bruce for president garbage on this board.
By the way if you want to llok to the draft for a qb next year, go with jerod Johnson out of texas a&m.
6 foot 6 235 lbs of lean muscle can throw it a mile, with acuracy and touch and runs like the wind. Also plays a pro style offense under former nfl head coach and pass happy qb friendly o coordinator mike sherman. We retain Cable, under the assumption that he’s “like Madden”, and look what happens.

we’ll probably draft 3 DB’s in April because Huff, Routt, CJ37 & Hiram Eugene are all in the final year of thier contracts
of course we could always replace Huff & Eugene with Stevie B & Boyd (Mitchell starts next to Branch)
then re-sign CJ & Stanford since nobody else will want them …

Another problem that must be looked into is the play of our safties. Branch is solid but seems to have slipped, missing tackles and blowing coverages. Huff played well yesterday but has trouble stringing good games together. Im waiting to see mm34 get some run, steveie brown as well. Brown is a ball hawk at single high, and mm34 is a destroyer, exactly what our strong saftey is supposed to look like. Reminds me of eddie anderson.

Rockstar, you’re now admitting you were one of the people who compared Cable to Madden? Why did you deny it just a minute ago?
Anyway, you weren’t alone. A ton of you guys were. And that’s been the problem in Oakland, hindsight. The Oakland Raiders need to move into the future, and stop trying to recreate what happened in the past. The league is always changing. You have to change with it.

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////
No i would start Campbell because he has shown in the past that he can play at a higher level than Bruce can. Halfway through his 08-09 season he was having a great season. His team was 6-2 and he was in the top 5 in several stastical categories. Then the injury bug hit and he lost severalOL and Portis and the team went 2-6 down the stretch. Jasons best is better than Bruces best IMO and he doesnt have nearly the injury history. Bruce is a scrappy guy with high energy and a heart too big for his chest, but all that doesnt make up for a lack of raw physical tools and talent.
September 21st, 2010 at 2:59 pm

SevereRaiderz, how far in the past do you want to go back? Should current performance weigh into the decision at all? If it’s all about how someone performed in the past, couldn’t we suit Jim Plunkett up? Maybe Stabler? Those guys have PROVEN, mind you, PROVEN that they could get it done in the past, just as Campbell has. If we’re going to just throw out CURRENT performance, and go with what guys were capable of in the past, why not go with a legend like Stabler or Plunkett? Why Jason Campbell?

We can go way back like to when you said you would wear a Glenn Dorsey jersey to every home game or somethin stupid like that. Two seasons ago isn’t that long and last year we can hardly judge becaue he was without many of his starting offensive line and his starting RB. BJH’s last ok season was two years ago, he had a average camp, and and an average week one but made a difference this past week.

OK, SevereRaiderz, I see what you’re saying. So, how many more victories does Bruce has to steer us to, then? He’s only been doing it for two years now, one of them against Pittsburgh. When will you think he’s proven himself? After cleaning up messes made by Al’s bomb throwers and winning games for 5 years? 6? How many saves does he need before he earns the starting spot? Again, he’s been doing it for 2 years now. So how long? Give me a number.

you know, I hope Campbell has a great game this week, while the meatheads in here keep banging on the guy after the game Id love to see all of you eat your words. While all in here have read cables own words that the play calling was different with gradkowski with the shorter throws, why couldnt he do the same thing with campbell?……the o line hasnt given campbell any time to throw the ball and then again if the coaches would understand that you cant expect to get ANYTHING deep if your not beating them short, and thats what the differnce between the halfs. Campbell in the game hes in the 5-7 step drop looking to go deep with them post and go routes that takes alot of time to develop all the dbs have to do is play soft in turn Campbell holds on to the ball and he looks bad….the put in Bruce he gets the short routs since the dbs have been playing soft the entire 1st half so now Bruce looks like the hero….. and for the guy banging on campbell for throwing the ball in the ground on a screen pass, I reckon that Bruce did the same damn thing so check that, Im happy the raiders won but all this Campbell bashing is rediculous
September 21st, 2010 at 3:09 pm
He has only won us 2 games as a starter and 3 if you count last week….why so much faith in him???

Dirty Bath Water,
By accusing people of rooting for Campbell to lose, you in essence admit that you root for Bruce to lose. You’re the one sinking to that level, not us. We just want the best QB to play. You have another agenda. What is it? I don’t know. I have my speculations, considering how Campbell got here, the timing of it, etc. But anyhow, the Campbell supporters are the ones playing politics. They’re your Raider fans who would root against the team in a heart beat if winning meant Gradkowski establishing himself and the team as a winner.
September 21st, 2010 at 3:14 pm
SevereRaiderz, I’m factoring in the games that Gradkowski didn’t start, as well. I’m factoring in his entire performance, as a whole, and the fact that he’s played far better than any starter we’ve had, since he’s been here, and right up to this day. My “faith” in him is that he should be our starter. I have “faith” that he’s the best QB on our roster, and this faith is based on factual data, so it’s really not even faith. Basically, I can see right before my eyes that Bruce is better. You can’t. You’re the one who needs “faith” to convince yourself that Campbell is better than Bruce. You need “faith” to convince yourself of things that you just can’t see in real life. Not me.

How long did Grads have to get rid of it when the blitzing defender came shooting up the middle untouched? Yet he delivered a perfect ball before Murphy even made his cut. First Down! as a raider in games that he has thrown at least 9 passes he is 3-4. His stats in those games are 7 tds, 4 ints, 11 sacks taken, 5 fumbles, 3 lost. He has thrown for over 200 yards twice for us and has yet to win back to back games, so you have “faith” that he will do something that he has never done in a Raider uniform is what you are telling. damn RMR for some that does this ALL DAY you sure do suck at it.

Campbell has had short stints of success in Washington. He closed the ‘07 season well, and looked good in early ‘08. Then fell apart. It looks like those people game planning against Campbell have his number. So, yes, Campbell proved he can win as an established starter, for a short period of time. What’s also proven is that he hasn’t done crap since early ‘08, and that he just flat out tanked in ‘09. It is PROVEN, actually, that this is a QB on the down side of his career. He has proven that he HAS WON in the past, but what he’s also proven is that he CAN’T WIN NOW! And this is proven by his inability to lead his team to victories in most of ‘08 and ALL of last year.

SevereRaiderz, it’s all good. Let Campbell start. And we’ll just keep bringing Gradkowsk in at half time to save him. Sort of like baseball. We’ll platoon our quarterbacks by having Campbell out there trying to work that old vertical game, scrambling around, throwing the ball god knows where…then at half time we’ll bring in Gradkowski. Hopefully we won’t be down by too much at half. It’s not the smartest way to approach a season, but for some reason, Campbell just has to get his playing time. So fair enough. First half Campbell, second half Gradkowski. As long as we get Gradkowski in there by half time, we should be a 9 win team. Just so long as Campbell doesn’t really dig us into a hole.

The facts are that JC has 6 sacks in 6 quarters behind this OLine and Grads has 0 sacks in 2 quarters.
The facts are that small armed Grads has a 7.36 yards per attempt average as compared to cannon armed JC’s 5.14 average.
The facts are that JC has 1 TD in 6 quarters and Grads has 1 TD in 2 quarters.
The facts are that JC averages 44.5 yards passing per quarter and Grads averages 81, almost double.
The facts are that Grads led this team to a come from behind victory after the stink spread by a JC-led offense.

I responded to that.
You forgot to mention the dropped pick from Campbell on that first drive.
The pick Grads almost threw in the red zone after his QB sneak hit the DB in the chest because he couldn’t get his arms up fast enough due to him holding DHB. Should’ve been a flag.
The other “almost” pick was when his arm was hit and the ball was batted down. The play where the ref DID throw the flag for a personal foul on the defender.
Unlike the completely errant throws by JC that were and almost were picks.

SevereRaiderz, why are you still fighting? I thought we agreed. Campbell should start, and if he fails, put Gradkowski in. I think that system will work. When Campbell fails week after week, throwing balls all over the place, looking confused, delay of game penalties, the whole 9, we just put Gradkowki in at half time. As long as Gradkowski gets into the game by half time, we have a chance of winning 9 games this year.

Gradkowski wins games and can do so in hostile environments.
That’s who he is.
We know much more about him than we do about Campbell at this point.
September 21st, 2010 at 3:53 pm
Gradkowski has to play it fast and loose, becuase he doesnt have the goods to play it any other way. He is too short to see over the line of scrimage, so he has to leave the pocket. he is not strong enough to get the ball deep, so he has to utilize a quick pasing scheme. Once defensive coordiantors have film on him running this years raider offense he is finished. Back qb’s look good alot of times becuase the defense game planned for some one else.
Also some of you hypocrates are harping on Campbells short comings sunday, but totaly ignore grads screw ups!!!!! He was very close to having 3-4 balls intercepted in 1 half of football!!!! Campbell was not nearly as bad as that!! Be honest.

Mistic, it’s cool. I’m on board, man. You guys have sold me on it. Campbell is a far better QB than Gradkowski. Gradkowski is just an overachieving scrub. But, for some reason, that little sucker just gives us a spark and we almost always play better when he’s in the lineup. So, here’s what we do. We start Campbell. And when Campbell inevitably starts playing horribly, as he has since he’s been here, we make sure to get Bruce in by half time, and this gives us a chance of winning. Makes sense to me. We do the old Campbell/vertical game experiment thing in the first half, then get down to serious football in the second half. A long as we get Grads in there by half time, we could be a 9 win team.

He threw one pick sunday and had two other near picks, one of those being in the red zone and having it dropped by the defender. None of his supporters have responded to that post because they can’t their reasoning when confronted with facts.
——————————————————-
BS!
////////////////////////////////////////////////////
It doesnt matter anyway, all that matters is if the pick is made. Just using that as an example of how bruce is willing to take more risk, usually because he has to due to his lack of raw physical tools. Not a bad thing but it could get us burned and if a ball is tipped and picked it counts as an int jus the same as it would if a wr tipped it and it was picked.

He is too short to see over the line of scrimage, so he has to leave the pocket. he is not strong enough to get the ball deep, so he has to utilize a quick pasing scheme. Bruce Gradkowski is 1-0 this season.
Campbell is 0-1 this season.
Career wise Gradkowski is .500 at 2-2
Gradkowski wins games and can do so in hostile environments.
That’s who he is.
We know much more about him than we do about Campbell at this point.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////
True, but the point is to find out about your starter before you bench him. We don’t know what JC is and really know very little about grads. Though we do have a lot more knowledge on the latter

I think Campbell gets the nod but he will be on a short leash. cable has demonstrated that he’s not afraid to yank him. Also take the seven step drop out of the playbook and give him some more roll outs. Get a little more creative. Oh, and let’s see a wildcat with Mcfadden and Bush now and then.

In fact, I’d argue that he has done a few things to deserve to be benched, starting with that bahlless slide 2yds short of the 1st marker last week.
Not getting the WRs involved AT ALL last week was sad. Especially when the backup can come in under the SAME cirumstances and go 10-16 to those guys.

You know, Grads wouldn’t be the first qb with average skils who over acheives and inspires his teamates to do the same. It’s not all about the physical skill set. The NFL graveyard is full of guys that can chuck it 80 yards (see Jamarcus Russel). It’s about the intanigables: like grit, determination and fearlessness. Fact is, the team just plays harder for the guy.

Grads: 2006-to present 290-523 2986 yards, 16 td, 17 int 6 fumbles.
Named the starter by john gruden 2006, washed out in 07 after 1 game. picked up by the browns couldnt beat out derick anderson charlie fry or brady quinn. Grads has never had a completion percentage over 55%
Campbell: 20o6- present 1032-1689 11,127 yards, 56 td,
40int, 11 fumbles.
Campbell was drafted in 05 but didnt start a game unti 06, and has been a starter ever since! Campbell was thought highly enough of to survive 7 coordinator changes, Joe gibbs in offensive guru loved campbell. It just so happens that we are running a version of his/gilman/davis offense here.

The difference between me and you is that if Grads gets the start i will be as ok with the decision as if Campbell gets the start. I can see the logic in either choice, some of you don’t or won’t and i have no problems with that. We all want a win (except RMR… unless he can somehow link it to Gruden, Bruce Allen,or Kiffin). I feel Campbell gives us the best chance at long term success, the last QB we have drafted and was any good was Stabler and that was in ‘68 my mom hadnt even turned 1yrs old yet. If Campbell proves he can’t be our starter and Grads shows us he can be more than an OK starter some of the time, I’ll be all in for the Polish Cannon. Oh, another one of these guys who’s above arguing, if not only for the fact that he always seems to be in them as well.
So, riddle me, England Raider. How do you think the meat gets to your plate? Is the animal still alive when you eat it? And, do you eat just enough of it to where it could still survive, then let it free? That animal had to have faced some sort of torture. First it had to have been taken by force from its habitat. You can’t talk an animal into coming to a butchering factory with you. You have to knock them out, then cramp them into a vehicle. That’s not torture?
Vick killed dogs because they were no longer able to fight.
The meat industry kills animals so they can sell them to people who will eat them, FOR JOY.

I’m going on the record as saying…I like Jason Campbell as well as Bruce Gradkowski. Boller is a decent #3 to have. I’m happy to have the guys we currently have until they completely suck altogether and then I’ll want someone else but so far so good. We’ll see how everyone fares over the course of the year.
September 21st, 2010 at 4:36 pm
Black qb’s get the quick hook?…lol…in Oakland they get paid!…I doubt owners give a hoot what the qb looks like these days,..they will put out a green transvestite under center if it would win games.

Lynn – I think you go with the hot hand right now in Gradkowski for sure but its nice to have both guys just in case.
September 21st, 2010 at 4:37 pm
EnglandRaider, have you ever watched a documentary film that shows how animals are treated by legitimate meat industries? Ever seen a video of foreign factory workers, outsourced by American meat companies, club a cow or horse until it’s bloody and dead? No. But you’ll read about Michael Vick and ooo and aah at the horrible things he did to animals. About as far as your research goes with the meat industry, however, is your search for Arby’s coupons in the Sunday paper.

September 21st, 2010 at 4:38 pm
some of you guys are talking crazy. Gradkowski is the man and our system fits his style perfectly. Correct me if I’m wrong but did Jason Campbell ever take the skins to the playoffs? He doesn’t win games in the final minutes of a game like Bruce can, he tosses interceptions, he fumbles and all around he looks like he’s stuck in the mud behind the line. Grads wouldn’t just sit down a few yards from the first down marker he’d take the hit and get it.
This team looks totally different with Bruce behind center, and whoever doesn’t see that, wasn’t really watching the game. I was really hoping that he’d be our starter this year, and then we got campbell – who really wasn’t ever any good in washington either, he is in fact a serviceable backup though.
BRUCE IS THE MAN FOOLS! and he better be starting this weekend, I’m already thinking about ordering my Grads jersey.
September 21st, 2010 at 4:38 pm
Norco – Green Transvestite at QB? You’re on to something. Al Davis will surely make it happen and say he was the first to make it happen and be successful. I’m surprised AD hasn’t had the 1st woman QB yet. Theres still time.

September 21st, 2010 at 4:39 pm
This from our captain who has the reign to say what he pleases-
Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha had this strange reaction: “The thing is, we might have been down 7-3, it could have been 7-6. So it wasn’t like we were getting killed by the Rams, so I guess that’s why it would be surprising.
“But at the same time, it’s good that the offense didn’t let it mess up what they were doing. They were still able to run the ball, still able to move the ball with Bruce. So as long as it works out, I think everybody’s OK with it.”

As far as giving Campbell time to develop because it’s a “lost season”? C’mon. Say that when we are 1-4 and I’ll agree with you, but this was SUPPOSED to be a year when we make the playoffs….maybe. I say keep the hot hand going and see if we can end this seven year funk and if Bruce fails and teams watch film and are able to scheme and destroy him, then go to plan b-Campbell.

If you answered Jason Campbell then you hit the nail on the head, the guy doesn’t put up huge yards or even multiple td’s a game but you know he’s out there if you absolutely have to have someone to start.

Norco Bob, what Vick did isn’t for enjoyment, either. It’s gambling. They’re betting on those dogs. They were running a casino. It was a business. Guys from the hood were making real money, and they got Vick to invest in it. Dogs can’t fight anymore, they get killed. Meat industry is in it for profit, too, to sell meat to fat Americans like you, who think they need meat in their diet. In both cases, you have animals being tortured and killed for the greed of a few. Bob, stick to cheap alcohol, pills, and the Raiders’ parking lot, the only 3 things you know anything about.

Good post and vice versa about some hanging their heads if Grads gets the start. I guess part of me wants Jason to start so this won’t be a year long thing where we have to question whether he was pulled too soon. Jason had the same problem in DC, that he has in Oakland no o-line. I’m from DC trust me I know what he can do. With an Idiot coach, dumb play calling and no line, he still threw for 3,800 hundred yards and 20 with a qb rating of 80+ and 20 td’s. Bruce is not the man, he can get you 4 wins tops dont get caught up in the hype, you beat the Rams Jason has beat 88% of the teams in the NFL. Vick did what he did as a business that made money, just like these people that have cows and chickens. There are much more humane ways to house these animals, but they are less profitable. I have owned 3 pitbulls in my life at various times, when i was younger a neighbor of mine lied and said my pitbull bit one of her kids, which he would never do, and we had to have him put down. She was yelling how “those types” of dogs are vicious and killers and know how to do nothing else but destroy and attack, a sentiment shared by many i have encountered. Yet when someone uses them for the purpose that so many say they are born and bred for suddenly they are up in arms.

Wrong again!!!!! Black qb’s were more often then not forced to change position just to be in the nfl!!! This still goes on today. Most never get a shot like Campbell, or some of the recent wave of black qb’s. Still far too many dont get a fair shake, while their white counter parts stink it up year after year.
Bruce has not distinguished himself in this league in any way. Campbell has proven himself as a starter and has far better numbers then grads when you compare the two careers. Yet some people dont want to look at the big picture, they would rather base it on 6 quarters of football. If its not race than what is it??
Jay cutler sucked last year with his new team for a full season he is still there?
But you want to becnch Campbell after 6 quarters.

Norco, like I said earlier, that’s because you’re not very smart when it comes to things outside of Raider tailgating and drug abuse. You don’t know what you’re talking about, that’s why people who do are trying to help you. Vick’s old buddies from the hood were using this as their primary source of income. They got Vick to invest in it, let him use their property, etc. That’s how it works. Rich athletes from the hood are under a lot of pressure to “help out” some of the old homies. Dog fighting is a business, period. The execution of those dogs, as horrible as it was, was business as well. They take the dogs to vets or shelters, and they’re giving themselves up. It’s just out of the equation. It’s a crazy world, and people are going to do what they do to survive.

I only brought up race because i am at a loss trying to figure out how grads can suck since 06, campbell has produced him since 06, has much more talent, but people want to bench him after 6 quarters.
Also people want to point out campbells short comings through six quarters and ignore grads short comings going back to last year!
Race may not be the issue, and perhaps I am bit sensitive having watched my favorite qb’s forced to play in canada, sit the bench and get dumped after huge years. But if some one could honestly look at the career stats for these two and give a solid alternative i am willing to listen.

Grad hasn’t sucked, Mistic. You’re lying. And that’s what makes your race argument fall flat on its face. If you’ve read my comments here, you’d know I believe that racism is still a problem in America, and that it’s definitely prevalent in the NFL. Bring up the possibility of racism by addressing facts, not claiming someone sucks when you know they don’t. Bruce just led us to another victory two days ago. And you’re saying he sucks? Listen to yourself.

This looks like sucking pretty bad to me, i mean the numbers dont lie, nor does the game film, nor do I.
These are the cold hard truths that you dont want to swallow.
Do I really need to chronicle the plight of the black qb on thios blog?? I thought most knowledgable fans already knew about it.
Lastly i raised the possibilty that the fan base is impatient with campbell, this could be a race issue. We won inspite of bruce and cable, they almost botched a game we had no business losing!

All that playing people out of position and rotating the LT. I guess he sees what he’s got and doesn’t like it. Make up your mind Cable.

Its only 2 games into the season but…

Crab Diva has 3 receptions for 44yds

Campbell: 20o6- present 1032-1689 11,127 yards, 56 td,

Boller 102.9

the 40ints is a little high for me to be honest compared to only 56tds

dude that expirement came and went with russell and we dont have or cant even afford 6 more quarters to lose. campbell doesnt have a learning curve being a veteran. he either produces or he doesnt, and being 6 quarters with us or 4 years with the skins…..he hasnt.
September 21st, 2010 at 5:52 pm
Mystic:
You’re right that the OL is a problem, but that’s one reason why Bruce should be playing. He reads the defence faster and gets rid of the ball. Campbell has a hard time making up his mind.
September 21st, 2010 at 5:54 pm
Excuse me? You idiot, he could have taken off and made a play. But let’s remember back to his awe inspiring slide for the first down. A thing of beauty. The dude is a slouch.
You know damn well a playmaker would have never given up on a play in 1.5 seconds. And Grads would have at least tried. We don’t need a half-arsed game manager right now. We need someone to make plays.
Shannahan is laughing at us once again. He knew what he had.
September 21st, 2010 at 5:54 pm
Is it just me, or does Cable look more removed and uninformed from this team than he did in Pre-Season? His comments, non comments, general lack of knowing this team, with his less commitments, and the disgeneration of our O-line, he was an O-line guru, seem to me to just not add up?
September 21st, 2010 at 5:55 pm
Was at the game and dissapointed in all the Bruce chants before Campbell was pulled. Bruce has had more time with these guys so he should be further along than Campbell but is he the best solution for us long term? I say Cable made the right decision after seeing the outcome so he deserves credit and I know I’m in the small minority but dang, do we have to be that tough on our guys? What happens when Bruce has a bad game?

Seriously, if Campbell was in the game there’s a serious chance the offense would have continued to look absolutely dismal – as it did for his entire 6Qs. I had no hope at that time that things would change.
The O just had no rhythm. Bruce came in and it all changed.
Campbell’s not even getting good use out of Miller. Bruce is getting good use out of all of them. You just can’t keep losing. You lose your team. You have to win games. Period!

I felt like he made some plays with his feet, took hits and got up like he always does, avoided a lot of mistakes, and managed the game. With a bad oline very young drop prone receivers I think he deserved the chance to figure it out and pull out a win. He also has the best tools of our QBs and although I am glad Bruce is at the healm because of the spark he’s brought the team I don’t think we as fans should have called JC out so soon when the guys been such a pro. I know I’m pretty alone on this one, then again I didn’t like the booing Russell was getting last year because it doesn’t help our teams confidence and therefore chance of winning

Need I say, last game is exactly why Mike Mitchell should be in!
Hits matter. Physicality matters! The whole teams feeds off of it.
Once the phyical hits started it lit a spark and that when the Raiders began to physcially dominate the Rams. Everybody started to get in.
This is what the coaches (and maybe Al) is missing when it comes to Mitchell.
Mitchell probably won’t do any worse than Branch in coverage at this point.

The Raiders need a more physical presence that would light up the opponent. I think McClain is coming around to see this. He’s actually playing more and more physical each week since preseason. The defense would feed off of it.
Install Mitchell on more snaps, get the crowd amped, get the defense amped b/c they would want some skin too.

I submit that we cannot afford Campbell that priviledge. This team has loss too many games and needs to turn this around to change the mindset of these players. Winning does that. The first ever UFL sellout
Posted by Mike Florio on September 21, 2010 7:47 PM ET
At a time when more than a few NFL teams are struggling to sell all of the tickets to their games, one of the five UFL teams has managed to fill up the home stadium in the franchise’s debut.
The UFL announced today that the Omaha Nighthawks have sold all seats to Friday night’s game against the Hartford Colonials.
Sure, Rosenblatt Stadium holds only 24,000 — but that will still beat the league’s regular-season attendance record by nearly 10,000.
The Omaha roster includes plenty of players with NFL experience, including Wendell Bryant, Maurice Clarett (OK, Clarett really doesn’t have much NFL experience), Ricardo Colclough, Damion Cook, Devard Darling, Dusty Dvoracek, Robert Ferguson, George Foster, Jeff Garcia, Charles Grant, Ahman Green, Morlon Greenwood, Cate June, Jeb Putzier, Aaron Rouse, Stuart Schweigert, D.J. Shockley, and Gary Stills.
The game will be televised on HDNet at 7:00 p.m. ET. The Colonials are 1-0; Omaha didn’t play in Week One.
September 21st, 2010 at 7:02 pm
