Gradkowski opens with first team
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010 at 1:02 pm in Oakland Raiders.
After the conclusion of warmups and drills Wednesday and the expiration of the media window for practice, Bruce Gradkowski came to the line of scrimmage to take first-team reps while Jason Campbell watched with his helmet off.
Coach Tom Cable is expected to name a starting quarterback following practice.
Among those who were not present were left guard Robert Gallery (hamstring), linebacker Travis Goethel (lower back) and wide receiver Chaz Schilens (knee).
Also absent was defesnsive tackle John Henderson, who was wearing a protective boot Monday but said it was nothing and that he’d be playing against Arizona.
Cornerback Walter McFadden and defensive tackle Richard Seymour, both out with hamstring injuries, were suited up and will take part in at last some portion of practice. Offensive lineman Erik Pears was back on the field, meaning he was signed to the 53-man roster after Stevie Brown was waived.
Brown was not at the facility Wednesday, meaning he was waiting for the end of the waiver period or was claimed by another team.
More to come . . .

I love the raiders i have lived in east oakland all of my life and can remember the superbowl against the eagles, I watched it. I love Al Davis ( unlike you)and i only want whats best for the team.
I want the grads experiment to run its course so we can move onto something productive like putting the most talented guys on the field, ( Al Davis philosophy by the way). I think the team can win in arizona despite cable and grads…not because of them!!1
September 22nd, 2010 at 1:10 pm
Doc B gets the nod. Now lets get something going.
If they still look like a High School team with Gradkowski then the Raiders are out of excuses.
Cable better pray they play well or its adios for him.

The Chargers really screwed up here. VJax will come back in week 10, play 6 halfassed games and will be a free agent next year and SD gets nothing for him. McNeil will probably do the same. AJ Smith looks like an idiot.
September 22nd, 2010 at 1:11 pm
At halftime of this Sunday’s game, maybe Hue will approach Cable about making a switch at RG. With Carlisle in there, the team seems stale, they don’t have any energy. Obviously, he has to run it through Cable, but Al gives him the latitude to make those kind of critical decisions about the offensive line.

Grads is by far the best we got at the position. And yeah, i understand now why he always had pretty good stat lines with Washington, he blows it in the first half and then checks his way down the field in the second half to get his % up. He has the tools to be good but doesn’t have the “IT” factor that grads got. Gradkowski knows how to use the talent Mr.Davis has supplied this team with..I have never hated on Davis Philosophy about speed and athleticism, he just takes a little longer to find the coaches that know how to use them…RAIDERS WIN AFC WEST THIS YEAR… WE HAVE THE MOST TALENTED TEAM IN THE DIVISION…QUOTE ME

Being that Bruce is the only Raider QB since Collins to get the ball downfield and be productive, it makes perfect sense for him to be the starter.
He’s proven he should be more than enough times.

So I could understand a fan wanting him to retire, which is all I’ve ever said about him. Gradkowski has done nothing but tried to win, and every single decision he’s made since being in a Raider uniform has been to help the team win. We can’t say that about Al. Beanie Wells (knee) returned to Cardinals practice Wednesday, and declared himself “ready” to play Sunday against Oakland.
Assuming Wells has no setbacks through the week, Tim Hightower’s stint as Arizona’s feature back is over. It’s been suggested that the Cards always had Week 3 targeted for Wells to make his 2010 debut, and a full practice week would confirm it. Keep an eye on Wells until Friday, but he appears to be ready to play, and would make for a fine RB2 start in the tasty matchup.

You are 100% right Lynn. Cali has alot of interesting culture. People don’t realize that the Bay and LA are so diametrically opposite.
Crips and Bloods could not even come into Oakland, and that’s why we have none of those gang affiliations among Black people here in Oakland.
The BGF and the 415 gangs kept them out.
How many people know about the original 415? Back when Oakland was more recognized by the area code 415 and repped it harder than Sam Francisco did?
It was Oakland that put the 415 and reppin your area code in general, on the map for the whole country.
I know this has very little to do with the Raiders, but I think it does help explain a little bit about the Bay vs LA rivalry, and why the rebellious/anti establishment, spirit of The Raiders is intrinsically intertwined with the spirit of Oakland in general.

What kind of Raider fan admittedly wants the starting QB to fail? It is impossible to root for a a team while actively hoping the QB will fail. The quarterback position is the most vital position in the game. You want the QB to fail, you want the team to lose. You can call him a fan all you want to. I’m going to call him what he is: Someone who’s clearly rooting against the team on Sunday, because they’re not starting the QB he wants to start.
======================================================
The kind of fan that can see that we are on the verge of a set back. The same way we say that henderson must be replaced, and satele needs to sit. Come on you are trying to take my words out of context, but you are truly making yourself sound like a hypocrite!
The word fan is short for fanatic, any true fan wants the guys that they feel are the best to play, you cant grasp that simple concept?
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Ignore him, he gets slapped arounf all of the time. He is happy that Grads is starting because in his head he can somehow give credit to Gruden. What he fails to realize is that if Grads tunrs out to be any good it only further proves what a terrible eye for talent gruden has. Normally i agree with you about moving back to LA. But right now all i want is for us a to build a solid foundation.
There isnt 1 player out there thats going to turn this team around. it’s going to take all 53 men on the roster, the coaching staff, and the management to do that. Constantly making changes to the coaches and the QB is going to keep us in the dog house. Especially the distraction of moving this team again. They started there and probably should have never left.
I trust the team put together now can grow, lets just let them play and build upon that.

I agree. If Grads flops, Cable’s done for. If Grads succeeds, Cable stays. Simple as that. Cable’s pinning his job to Gradkowski’s arm…which is a strategy that’s worked well for him so far, I must say.
I’ll bet Hue Jackson’s “all in” on Gradkowski too, since he claimed today it was his idea in the first place. My guess is: Hue and Cable sat down Al and talked him into letting them go with their guy.
Woe unto them if their guy faceplants.
But, until he shows me otherwise, In Bruce I Trust.

Stop the presses. Bruce is not the answer. All he does is win and make plays. We simply MUST get someone 6′ 5″ who can throw the deep interception.

LMAO, best comment yet

who gives a rip if you lose a game or two in FF? it means nothing in real life. i’m in 4 leagues – LOL
********************************
Two things I don’t do:
Trade in FF, and play in more than one league.
You got a baby on the way, great, leverage him with some action!!!!
Ahhh….the good old days of the rush with the mortgage on the line.
I remember the Eagles-Pats Super Bowl. I was short on most of the bill money, so I had a grand scheme.
I was pretty sure the Pats would win, but didn’t know about covering 7 points. So I threw about $500 on the ML, which only payed off about $200, and than $250 on the Eagles +7.
If the Eagles won, I probably would have gotten evicted and had to move back to Chico or Tracy. If the Pats won and covered, it was about a wash.
But I middled, made some coin and almost crapped a brick in the meantime.
Lesson of course, parents don’t let your 23 year old kid move to Las Vegas on his own.

I can see it now:

Monday Night Football
Downtown LA at Anschutz Entertainment Stadium
LA Raiders v. Denver Broncos
Owner-Mark Davis
GM Chris Polian
HC Pat Shurmer
QB Ryan Mallett

LA has historically borrowed Bay Area culture and tried to make it their own.
The Crips and Bloods were originally knock off attempts at imitating the Black Panthers.
Even today ‘The Dougie’ and the ‘Jerk’ and all these young LA rappers like the New Boyz and Cali Swag District are just trying to imitate the “hyphy” movement that the kids in Oakland started and their whole style is copied off of the Pack and other young groups like that.
This may be over the heads of some of you guys, but Oakland is by no means anybody’s stepchild by any stretch of the imagination.

You know, there are so many cities and even large towns in America that are riddled with poverty and violence today. But for some reason Oakland just gets the brunt of the criticism. I would think it was racism (considering where a lot of this criticism is coming from), but of course there are black people in all of these towns and cities. So, what separates Oakland from all of these other places with violence and poverty? Could it be that Oakland has so much more than even so many of the safer, wealthier cities? Could it be the generations of talented entertainers to come out of Oakland? Could it be that just about everyone, of all races, under the age of 40, all across America, uses some form of 90’s Oakland hip hop slang (i.e., the term “player hater”, or even it’s short derivative, “hater”)? Even in corporate board room meetings? LOL. Even the president (Bush), when he called Saddam Hussein a “hater”?
Could it also be the political movements throughout history in Oakland? Is Oakland’s exclusive criticism still pay back for the Panthers? Oakland’s reputation for standing up to abusive authority? I may be on to something here because I notice Detroit gets a lot of this unfair criticism, too.

While the back stories are much different, Cable’s choice of Grads and Reid’s choice of Vick to replace the supposed franchise QB both had to be made. Both Raiders and Eagles have O-line problems, and the presumed #1’s were struggling to escape with their lives. It has to be obvious to anyone that was watching with an unbiased eye that Gradkowski showed much better ability to deal with the pressure, just as Vick was clearly better able to move the Eagles than Kolb. The coach has to put the QB that shows the most potential to win on the field, regardless of whether he is the “best”. If Monte Poole can’t see that, he’s got his head firmly planted where the view ain’t so good.

The entire team played like crap against TEN, not just Campbell.
Campbell was pulled at half when we were only down 4 points.

We should of never been down four to the rams.

Now we know the real reason Jeff Garcia quit the team last pre-season. He saw the awesome skills of Bruce God-kowski and decided to pack it up and go home to wifey. How could he possibly compete with a younger version of himself.
