QB switch was Jackson’s idea
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010 at 11:12 am in Oakland Raiders.
Rather than produce a quarterback to talk with the media Wednesday, the Raiders Hue Jackson bat leadoff with reporters, who learned that it was the offensive coordinator who suggested switching to Bruce Gradkowski in a 16-14 win over the Rams.
Jackson said coach Tom Cable would likely name the starter when the head coach met the media later that afternoon.
Jackson said owner Al Davis gives him “great latitude” with the offense and said it was his determination that he didn’t see enough energy in the first half and went to Cable with the change.
More to come later from Jackson and the media availability period . . .

NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports that the Raiders will start Bruce Gradkowski in Week 3 against Arizona.
Gradkowski won’t have a long leash (Al Davis is a Campbell backer), but he’s worth grabbing in two-QB leagues and as a low-end QB2 in standard settings. Despite limited talent, Gradkowski has mastered the Oakland system and gives the Raiders their best chance to move the ball. His insertion is also good news for Louis Murphy and Zach Miller. Gradkowski gets a favorable Week 3 matchup against a Cardinals defense that allowed three Matt Ryan TDs last Sunday.

I swear, only in Raiderland is in newsworthy that the owner lets the offensive co-ordinator run the offense as he sees fit.

Is there a bigger flake in the NFL, than Cable?
Quote: ““I’ve heard if you have two running backs, like Michael (Bush) and Darren (McFadden), you have a tandem, but if you have two quarterbacks, it’s a controversy. There isn’t going to be a controversy. I’ll make a good decision, the right decision, and we’ll go from there.’’
He’ll make the RIGHT DECISION? A GOOD DECISION”??
WTF? When you bail on your appointed starter, after 6 quarters, it means you ALREADY MADE TWO BAD DECISIONS..the first one to anoint this apparent “failure” as your starter, and then to bail so quickly, at the half of a game separated by 3 points…
Tells the team, the fans, pretty much anyone paying attention, that you’re wishy washy, and a flake.
And when asked 3 DAYS AGO WHO YOUR STARTER IS? You had to wait until Wed to announce it?
In other words…”Let me check with who Al wants as starter, and I’ll get back to you.”
Usual backasswards management
——————————————————-
Rick, how goes it, buddy? Been too long since we did this.
Obviously, I have to at least partially disagree.
I don’t think Cable is much of a strategist and at times I wonder how far up his @$$ his head really is, but we have to remember who calls the shots.
Cable, I doubt, is flip-flopping.
Pulling Campbell down only 7-3 at half shows who he wanted as starter all along.
He needs three days to convince Al he made another mistake.
Cable’s best decisions as Head Coach so far:
-Bench Russell
-Bench Russell again (after his admittedly nice GW TD v. Denver last year)
-Bench Campbell
Everyone in here says Cable’s trying to save his job. Well, of course.
If your stubborn, senile boss saddled you with employee that was garbage and continued to make mistakes, if you had even a little bit of pull and say in personel decisions, you wouldn’t demote him (or at least lobby to do so) ASAP to salavage a winning season or a profitable quarter, etc, etc.?

Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic suggests that the Cardinals have been targeting Week 3 against Oakland for Beanie Wells (knee) to make his return all along.
Wells’ powerful and explosive running style would surely pose matchup problems for a Raiders defense built to pressure QBs, and not necessarily plug the run. At the same time, however, Somers admits he won’t be surprised “if one day we find out that Wells’ knee injury was more than a bruise.” We’ll have an update on Wells’ practice participation later Wednesday afternoon.

Deep within the bowels of the Legion of Doom (Oakland Raiders Headquarters – Alameda, CA), the Supreme Commander of the Silver & Black ponders his new quarterback controversy.
Al: Listen, Tim – Coach Jackman and I have been discussing the quarterback situation for the upcoming St. Louis Rams game.
Cable (sighs): And you didn’t bother to keep me in the loop?
Al: You’re just the Head Coach, Grabel! Personnel decisions, strategy, motivation and critical decisions are not your responsibility. You have your red flag, don’t you?
Cable: Yes, sir.
Al: Well then you’re set.
Cable: Sir, if I may, I just can’t help but feel that you realized a mista– realized that JaMarcus didn’t have the neccecary Commitment to Excellence to continue to be your starting QB, but simply went out and got another project in Jason
Don’t get me wrong, the guy’s a professional and everything, but he just doesn’t have the vision and the spunk to get this team to turn the corner.
Al: You’re right, Todd.
Cable: (flabbergasted): R-really? So we can go with Bruce??
Al: Ha! Your continued lack of football knowledge and overall greatness has blinded you yet again, you idiot.
Al: Herrera!
Herrera emerges from below Al’s desk.
Herrera: Yes, sir?
Al: Bring in the New Guy.
Herrera (as if saluting the president): Yes SIR!
He pushes a button on Al’s desk and the door behind them swings open and in walks…. JaMarcus Russell.
Russell: Hey, y’all what it do? Anybody got anything I can mix this with?
Al: Yes, of course son, in the fridge.
Cable: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Mistic1, post #125, Nice!(last tread)
One thing tho, is I remember Bruce throwing long against Pitts last year. The guy can throw the deep ball if he has to, he is just not as good as some other QBs in the NFL at it.
I for one really liked the penalty by McClain. Thats his best play yet in a Raiders uniform. I wish the guy would get in there on the run plays tho, I still see him JOGGING way to much.
September 22nd, 2010 at 11:37 am
Clearly the dysfunction here is more than just Cable’s doing. The whole Stevie Brown and MM situation? Campbell announced as the starter shortly after the Plunkett comment?
Cable is not without fault (starting a rookie at a relatively new position in hostile environment) and I’m not a fan of his but you can’t dump it all on him.
And, now, news that Jackson was the one to make the switch. When you criticize Cable, remember folks, in Raiderland it’s more complicated than that. Just sayin’
September 22nd, 2010 at 11:38 am
The Raiders have played Anderson befor. When Anderson had his best year as a pro, the Raiders shut him down. We have seen this guys game and we know how to beat him GO RAIDERS!!!!

Now Jackson is throwing himself on the sword saying it was his idea.
Another mystery along the lines of abbot and costello “whos on first?”

Kolb is still very well thought of around the NFL, which bodes well for his value as a “hold” in dynasty leagues. Asked Wednesday if Kolb would be in Philly past the October 19 trade deadline, Reid replied “Listen, I can’t predict anything down that far, nobody in this league can do that.” The Browns are definitely interested. The Bills, Cardinals, and Raiders might be too.

Dell, there is absolutely no doubt that a Michigan education is superior to anything offered in Ohio. Raider O voted with his ass by moving to SD to get smart…

Recent Wall Street Journal article reported by 480 companies, who have hired 4 year graduates rated the schools with the best graduates overall.
Not to be a party pooper, but Michigan was rated #6 and the Ohio State was #12.
Just passed some info along, non football related.

Dell, I seriously can not comment on scoring issues in your league. I havent paid that close attention to it. I thought the scoring for my players looked pretty copasetic though.

we should be interested in Kevin Kolb …
we can offer Jason Campbell, Robert Gallery and Richard Seymour in exchange!
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
Well, we are down to our last option now. Better start making plans for the next guy. Kind of like what I’ve seen of Kolb myself. Can’t believe it’s come to this.

kolb is overrated, if we are talking about the next qb the answer is in the draft. His name is Jarrod Johnson. Do yourself a favor before ripping this post, and watch texas a&m play. Johnson is 6 foot 6, 235lbs of pure muscle. He throws the ball a mile and runs like the wind. He doesnt turn the ball over. Johnson also is a 3 year starter plays a pro offense under former nfl head coach and pass happy o-coordinator Mike Sherman. We can pick him up in round 3 and use our first picks on the o-line.
