John Henderson misses practice again

News, notes and quotes from Raiders Thursday practice and media sessions:

– Raiders defensive tackle John Henderson missed practice again with a foot injury which in a day graduated from “precautionary” to a “game time decision.”

Others who did not practice included WR Chaz Schilens, G Robert Robert Gallery and LB Travis Goethel. Those who were limited at practice were S Hiram Eugene (hamstring), CB Chris Johnson (stinger), CB Walter McFadden (hamstring) and S Michael Huff (illness). RB Michael Bush and DT Richard Seymour practiced without limitations.

Cable termed Walter McFadden the “most questionable” of the injured and said Gallery was “very questionable.”

Schilens is in an entirely different category, still recovering from arthrosopic knee surgery more than a month ago.

“We’re making progress,” Cable said. “I would say they’re probably happy with where he’s at right now. We still have a ways to go but we’re progressing.”

Cable said there was no estimate on how much longer Schilens would be out.

– In case you were wondering, Jason Campbell hasn’t fallen so far off the map that he is behind Kyle Boller. He’ll be the backup quarterback.

Campbell was approached in the locker room Thursday and politely declined comment, saying he’d like to talk but had been told not to talk to the media.

“I’m not aware of that,” Cable said. “I did not know that.”

Campbell wasn’t the only one. Either players were staying out of the locker room of their own volition or had been urged not to talk to media, because the open locker room session was pretty barren.

– Cornerback Stanford Routt on Arizona wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald: “Size, athleticism, speed, strength. Whatever attribute you want to ask about, that’s something he has in his tool box. You definitely can’t go out there scared, though. You respect your opponent but you don’t ever fear him.”

– If Fitzgerald is the most feared member of the Cardinals offense, defensive lineman Darnell Dockett is the defender most likely to cause problems. Dockett was given a five-year contract extension worth $48 million recently.

“He’s a very, very good player,” Cable said. “When you talk about defensive linemen, you’re looking for a guy that’s disruptive can play all three downs, penetrate _ he can do that _ but I think is greatest asset is his ability to rush the passer in one-on-one situations.”

– While third-round pick Jared Veldheer will alternate at left tackle with Mario Henderson and has also played center, fourth-round selection Bruce Campbell has remained exclusively at right guard and is making slow but steady progress.

“I think he is on the right climb,” Cable said. “He is moving in a direction that we want him to. There’s some days out there where he gets you so excited, and then there are other days where he has to clean things up to continue that consistent improvement. I think a lot of that for him is learning what it takes to be a pro lineman. It’s an every day job _ 365 days a year. It’s the nature of the position.”

– Cable liked what he saw of Quentin Scott, the angular (6-foot-4, 225 pounds) linebacker out of Northern Iowa who may also get a look at safety. Scott went to camp with the Chicago Bears but was waived on the final cutdown.

“He’s a big, tall, rangy guy that can run,” Cable said. “That was obvious in day one. But I think adding him to the practice squad is a good move in that it puts another really quality athlete on the field. Just after one practice he was impressive in some things.”

    Good Morning Nation!!!
Neilb, Rockstar, Bcz24, Plunkett, JFB, NMF…
I will be in front of my tv watching the game on Sunday! I just hope that we can at least put together back to back wins that we haven’t done since the end of ’08!!! Then back to Oaktown against a very good Houston team…can we stay competitive? I hope so….tired of wondering which Raider team is showing up every week!

  • Plunketthead

Nnamdi would love to play for a contender. I bet he would take a little less to play for NE or the Steelers

GOOD MORNING SPORT’S FAN’S.ANY PLAYER ON THE RAIDER ROSTER WILL GET A SPLIT FROM THE FANS,SOME WILL LOVE HIM, SOME WILL HATE HIM.

Good Morning Dirt Lot…Got the email yesterday…thanks! I’d have to find someone that can help me on that one. I wonder why the minimum is 4? Anyways…
Hey Bo…here’s a good article on DMAC!!!

Thx Hwnrdr. Humility has been embraced… keep itup DMAC. Southwick for Coach of the Year!

  • hwnrdr

Hey Bo…to be fair I was one of those that was a hard critic on DMAC myself! This past 2 games he has proven to me that he worked hard in the offseason and could possibly be a 1000k back this year! I am proud to say that I was wrong so far!
Heyward-Bey has also proven that (at times, but more than often) he can catch the ball!!!
Lets ride the season and see what happens!!!

  • bcz24

I will be happy with a 7-9 season if 1. there are no more blowouts 2. DMAC keeps it up and breaks 1000 and 3. DHB becomes a viable receiver (more than 60 catches). We have a very challenging schedule ahead and I just dont see us being much better than than 7-9 by year end.

  • hwnrdr

Hey, I’ll be happy with that record too…however, I’ll add one more to that “if” list…
    4. The Raiders record in 2011 is 9-7 or better!!! Improvement…gotta keep it up!

Why would the Timeout Coordinator need to know that?

“All I want to do is win. So if its Gradkowski or some guy off the street, I’ll be happy.”

-This is a blatant attempt to equate Gradkowski to some bum on the practice squad.

“But I do get annoyed with annointing players before they’ve done anything….”

-And you like to respond to such anointing by equating the player to some bum who just showed up to practice and put on the pads.

“I was pleased with Bruce’s Q&A. He is grounded and realizes he hasn’t done anything yet. I hope you realize that too.”

-Nice additional parting shot at fans who think Gradkowski is anything more than a bum.

I gotta tell ya, I often disagree with MR, but he cracks me the f*@k up on the regular.

Firing Cable mid-season would be another colossal mistake by Al Davis. Not because Cable doesn’t deserve to be fired, but because firing another HC mid-season will just fuel the perception that this organization is run by azz monkeys.

Let Cable finish out the season no matter what and then simply let his contract expire and move on. Then hopefully, after the lockout, enough time will have passed that a legit HC, or some of these young coaching prospects, will be a little more interested in the job.

  • bcz24

I agree Dakota. The lockout will only be a few weeks though. There will be football, but there will likely be an abbreviated season. 9-11 games. Thats my speculation.

On another note… if abbreviation means a shortened version of something, then why is abbreviation such a long word?

  • hwnrdr

    Ok, question…
Depending on who really did have a say in putting Bruce in last week…
What if the Raiders put on a 3 game win streak…and kepp on being consistent? Does Al fire Cable and elevate Hue Jackson? Or does he keep Bedrocking along?

  • http://blackhillsphoto.com/sturgis-weddings/black-hills-weddings.jpg Dakota

    Hwnrdr,

If the team suddenly took a turn for the better I don’t think there is any way Al could fire Cable, even if Cable is just standing on the sidelines picking his honker and eating his boogies all year.

  • mcskinnnylegs

omg this is hilarious…madden 11 update #5 is coming out today and if you look it up it shows they added stevie brown and then released stevie brown in the same update.lol just like the raiders.dhb up 3 points.dmc up another 2.grads up3 jason down3

If I still played Madden I would have McFadden and McClain jacked up to full 99s!

    Yeah baby!

  • hwnrdr

I agree Dakota…but who does Al feel responisble for having a good year?

  • CJ Legend 34

I am so confused with our freakin o-line I don’t know where anyone should play. There is something wrong when your only ray of hope to be great on the o-line is a 1st year rookie out of a Division 2 school from Hillsdale, OH.

    It jus ain’t right!!!

    ++++++++++

    That is easy….himself.

  • bcz24

Dakota, you cant do that if you want to play online. You have to use “official” rosters. It sucks though because Grads is only being elevated to a 76 but JC is being dropped to an 81… neither is a very good Madden option. DMAC has always been a Madden stud if you know how to get him the ball. He is VERY injury prone though.

  • bboyink

how much longer will we keep letting s.brown make plays then cut him before some other team snatches him up.

I’ve never gotten into on-line gaming…but my son was pizzed when he found out our PS3 in the basement couldn’t connect well with our wireless internet.

Al would have been proud, I told him to “get over it.”

“I don’t feel like I’ve proved anything right now,” McFadden said. “I’ve just shown people that I can (play). But, as far as proving something, I don’t think I’ve done that yet.”
    ——————–
DMAC you have defiantly not proven anything yet. Play a whole season with decent yardage totals first, then another year, then maybe one more, but I have a strong doubt he can stay healthy

  • CJ Legend 34

Speaking of DMAC I get pumped up every time I watch these three big plays. This is how you want to see him running by the way. look at the blocks Reece #45 throws out there.

Wait until Bush comes back we are going to run some teams in the ground this year.

Keep Brown on the roster and cut Mitchell. My favorite cut would be Henderson but we have no one else.

Been a long time since the boys have come to town.
Last time Freaking Jeff George was qb. Thankfully, he pulled a groin early and we won.
Can’t wait to go and watch the raiders come in and kick some @ss.

Big John please play! We need you! Seymour and Kelly couldnt stuff a plastic bag let alone the run!

  • CJ Legend 34

Could someone tell me what Nick Miller is still doing on the roster? We don’t play this guy but he makes the cut every week but a guy like S. Brown plays his @$$ off and we cut him, WTF?

Is Miller Cable’s cabin boy or something?

    LOL!!!!

If Anderson has another bad game Wisenhunt might pull a Cable and bring in “The Backup”.

I have to agree with the assertion that Campbell should have said no comment and chose to whine instead. Sooner they cut him sooner the new guy can learn the system. Grads’ gotta watch out for Docket.

Game wasn’t even sold out last night.

  • Just Fire Baby

On that 2nd run in that D-Mac highlight clip, Reese does a great job locating a guy to block, and Satele pushed his guy about 5 yards up the sideline.

Worth noting. Of course it would have only meant a 4 yard gain if Darren didn’t break the tackle.

Amazing what an occasional breaking of a tackle will do isn’t it!!!

  • Jmackraider12

    Yooo boys Jmack is back….

J-macks keys to wining the game~~~~~
    1.Get DMAC going early
2.Get young recievers the ball early
    3. Weather the storm in the first quarter(that stadium will be loud and amped up, its their home opener)
4.And finally, SCORE TDS in the red-zone….Gradkowski doesnt have to play an amzing game to win, hes just gota make enough plays…DMAC just has to play great again and our offense will be smooth as hell.

  • CJ Legend 34

What makes u think they are going to cut Campbell? He is Grads back up now. Do you know how quick QBs go down in the league? Campbell could be starting after the next game. Campbell is a rhythm QB and he just does not have that rythm going right now. I like our QB rotation and feel comfortable with Campbell backing up Grads. I would have liked to see a little more time with Campbell in there but I get it. I am good with Grads as well, he has a quick release and feel for the pocket with a BS o-line up front. .
