Status quo on Raiders injuries

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, September 24th, 2010 at 10:55 am in Oakland Raiders.

Unless he appeared late, John Henderson missed his third day after practice with a foot injury, meaning there’s a chance he won’t be available to face the Arizona Cardinals Sunday.

Also out were the usual suspects left guard Robert Gallery, wide receiver Chaz Schilens and linebacker Travis Goethel. Cornerback Chris Johnson, listed with a stinger, also was not present during the media window.

For what it’s worth, running back Michael Bush was on the field but not going out in pass patterns as was Darren McFadden. Cable said Bush has been practicing without limitations for the previous two days after missing the first two games with a fractured left thumb which required surgery.

More to come following practice . . .

Just in case some of you missed it…..

Raiders offensive coordinator Hue Jackson plans to continue to lean heavily on Darren McFadden going forward.
“That’s what our (primary) runner has to do,” Jackson said. “He has to be able to carry the load. I like to get on a back’s back and ride him.” Michael Bush is expected to return this week, but he’s now a clear backup to McFadden. McFadden is flirting with every-week RB1 status as perhaps the best value in 2010 fantasy drafts. He often lasted to the ninth and tenth rounds. Sep. 24 – 11:40 am et

Hey DMAC – you must be fired up right now, tearing up and shredding bulk yardage like we always knew you could!
From the previous post – I agree totally, the RoMo tackle was fierce, that would have been “fair-bump-play-on” in Australian football. Great hit, it’s why men play the game!

Wats up with T.Branch? I was lookin forward to him doing great this year
    ———————————————

I think that is the unmentioned story of the year.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but on every pass TD against the Raiders this year, Branch had the primary coverage. Didn’t matter if it was man or zone.

I see Whisenhunt scheming to get Fitz or Breston on Branch one-on-one all game.

    Could be ugly…

    ………..

It’s still not the same. Something about seeing a movie in a theater makes it more interesting. And ,I don’t even like HD for most movies…unless the movie relies on special effects. It makes it look live, like it was shot on video camera. It’s almost too high of definition, if I dare say. But HD is perfect for live t.v. like sports.

    Gradkowski Q&A

By John Smith – NFL Writer, LA Daily News
    Friday, September 24th, 2010 at 11:39 am

Q: So it’s been a long road in a Raider uniform?

Gradkowski: Yeah, I’ve just taken it one day at a time, staying focused. We’ve just got a great team and the O Line are blocking their butts off, coaches are coaching their butts off and fans are just super excited, screaming their butts off.

Q: How are you preparing for the Cardinals?

Gradkowski: Just study, making sure I’m prepared. Watching film one frame at a time. They’re a good football team and they’re playing their butts off over there and we can’t overlook anyone.

Q: Jason take the news OK?

Gradkowski: You know, he’s just taking it one day at a time. He’s a good player and he practices his butt off. We’ve got a great quarterback room and all the guys are real hungry. Just preparing as if we’re all the starter. Obviously, those two are just one play away.

Q: Confident that the O Line will protect you?

Gradkowski: Oh yeah, those guys are great players and they’re just playing their butts off, taking it one block at a time.

Q: Looking forward to finally getting a chance with the keys to this team?

Gradkowski: Yeah, really excited to have the opportunity that Coach Cable and Coach Jackson have given me. Really all the coaches. Just taking it one week at a time and staying focused.

Q: How do you put your pants on?

Gradkowski: You know, just staying focused and taking it one leg at a time.

    —————–
I am with you on this one. So much so, I went to the Raider image out in Pleasant Hill to order a custom Wimbley 96. They actually have his jersey in store. That was a good day!

  53. PurpleDrank81 Says:

Wow they had his jersey in store?????

  54. JB Says:

Logically, this upcoming game should be a blowout. We have the offensive energy of the new QB wanting to show his stuff. We also need to start winning games in a row and this one offers the best opportunity to achieve that goal. We have the #2 RB plus possibly Bush versus the #31 rush defense. We have a top 10 or better defense going against a team with QB problems who’s #1 WR has nagging injuries and #1 RB is just coming off injuries. If this game plays out like it does on paper, it could easily be 31-7. I really hope this assessment is accurate and comes to pass.

  55. Jmackraider12 Says:

who is starting to think that maybe all along we knew that we were going to put grads in…Maybe signed campbell, give him a shot see if he could do great rigth away and then go back to grads if it didnt work out right away???

  56. SilverNBlackPA Says:

I’ll go with slightly tempered optimism this week. I’ll say the offense is consistent and moves the ball under Bruce this week, but has to settle for more field goals than you’d like to see. Then next week’s practice is all about the red zone and we surprise Houston.

But that’s getting ahead. I think the offense puts up Cable’s 24+ and the defense overwhelms the joke that is Derek Anderson. Tim Hightower and Beanie Wells simply aren’t good enough to win the game by themselves

Honestly wouldn’t shock me if the only reason the Campbell trade happened was because they didn’t know the extent and duration of Gradkowski’s injuries.

  58. Drexl Says:

Joe and Patsy Heim met a little over 40 years ago in San Francisco. Joe was a Raiders season ticket holder and Patsy was a football fan. When they met, Patsy was immediately attracted to the fact that Joe had tickets. “I found out he’s a football fan and I’m a football fan and that is how our interest was peaked,” said Patsy. The two were married and have been attending Raiders games ever since. “I’ve often told other people that I married my husband almost 40 years ago because he had season tickets to the Raiders and I wasn’t about to give those up,” said Patsy. The two even planned their wedding around the Raiders schedule.

As they celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary this year, Joe and Patsy continue to attend Raiders games together, both in Oakland and in cities across the country. The couple has traveled to two or three away games each year to places like Miami, Buffalo, Green Bay, and this year’s game in Nashville (pictured). “We still love it,” said Patsy. “We go with a group of kids (I call them my kids) but they’ve promised me that if we ever became infirm, especially when we go to our away games and everything, that they will see to it that we get there even in a wheelchair. They will see to it that we get there. That is their promise to us.”

Joe and Patsy met due to Joe’s love for the Raiders and they continue to support the team to this day.

  63. Ghost to the Post Says:

And on the Jason Campbell note. It’s not just that JC holds the ball too long. It’s also that he isn’t moving his feet and looking down field and as many of you have also stated he has no feel in the pocket whatsoever. That’s all instinctive. I’m all for him learning the system and working to get back his job. But, I just don’t think you can teach the feel aspect of the position.

    Tom: Gradkow- The Pop Gun.

Al: Oh, yeah. Tell ‘im to get rid of the eyeliner. Wait a minute, Campbell has to be the one to come off the bench, just like Plunkett in 1980.

Tom: He’s racing cars in Houston.

Al: Houston? I traded him back to Houston? God damn it, get Bud Adams on the phone…

Actually Zach Miller is the backup long snapper and also the third string Punt Returner(?)

  74. DMAC Says:

Michael Bush (thumb) did not take part in receiving drills during Friday’s practice.
Bush is a smooth receiver out of the backfield, but the Raiders smartly aren’t going to use him as a pass catcher while his fractured thumb continues to heal. Bush will be likely be used as a 6-10 touch per game change of pace behind Darren McFadden. McFadden remains the uncontested starter.

Bush is a MUCH better change of pace than Michael Bennett

  77. DMAC Says:

Raiders LG Robert Gallery (hamstring) has been ruled out for Week 3.
Fill-in Daniel Loper didn’t embarrass himself while replacing Gallery in Week 2, though it was against the Rams. Loper will face Arizona’s interior combos of Darnell Dockett, Bryan Robinson, and rookie Dan Williams this weekend.

    Go Raiders!

    Go A’s!
    Go Cal Bears!

  80. Bo Schembechler Jackson Says:

This game will be a good test. Can Hue review the opponent’s tape and mimic how other team’s have dismantled the Cards D?

  81. inonewordraider Says:

Houston San Diego and San Francisco coming up, we gotta have this one against the Cards

  82. The Real GradkowskiRaider Says:

Wow. We have a WCO style QB in and suddenly the Al Davis guys are going all skeptical on us, asking if coaches are studying game film, etc. When Campbell was starting it was like, “We’re the Raiders, we’re going to kick ass!!!” What a difference a day makes.

  83. PurpleDrank81 Says:

Looking at game tape is critical no matter who the QB is

  84. NorCalBones Says:

Gonna say 24-17 Raiders. McFadden has over 150 yds. and a TD.

  85. Bo Schembechler Jackson Says:

The question is not whether game tape is reviewed, it is whether Hue – now that teams have two real games to review – can attack the same flaws in the Cardinal D.

  86. Bo Schembechler Jackson Says:

Basically, the Raiders should be able to run on these guys if the past is any guide.

  87. PurpleDrank81 Says:

Yea we should be able to run but with this team we always end up not doing what we should do…1st play of the game will be a play action

    @ 71…….LMAO !!

  90. Hot Shot Says:

Anyone know who the cardinals back up Qb is since the got rid of matt.If the raiders play amped up football anderson might get sacked and hurt.Wimbley is a beast out there.

  91. Hot Shot Says:

If the cards put 8 in the box Bruce will have a good day passing. That means 1 on 1 coverage on wide recievers DHB should have a good game as well as murphy.
