Final: Cardinals 24, Raiders 23
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, September 26th, 2010 at 4:35 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Sebastian Janikowski from 32 yards out . . . he missed it again. That’s three.
Arizona did everything it could to give the Raiders the game. Raiders wouldn’t take it.
Much more later in a painful postgame wrap . . .

You truly have to make an effort to be that bad. No question about it. From top to bottom.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:37 pm

But either way Jano sucked today.

September 26th, 2010 at 4:38 pm

September 26th, 2010 at 4:38 pm
Hideous sloppy penalty ridden game. Isn’t this team supposed to be different?
September 26th, 2010 at 4:38 pm
I wish we had a coach.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:39 pm
We fought hard at the end. AZ gift wrapped this game for us and we just didn’t want it.
O-line quit in the second half too.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:39 pm
Grads passes more than DMAC gets touches……too funny
September 26th, 2010 at 4:39 pm
JANO = WEAPON. More like an illequipped pee shooter.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:39 pm
You are as good as your FG kicker. The Raiders are the raiders.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
How about them Lakers
September 26th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
The guy was so good last year, I believe Jerry said you could’ve split the width of the goal post in half and he was still dead on.
So far this year he has sucked azz. Brings back memories of his early years, the gout and all.
Pathetic.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
Cable mismanaged that game at the end. He had Jano kick it on 3rd down with 4 seconds in the game.
He could have taken one more shot at the endzone if that was the case.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
Incompetent, incompetent, incompetent, inexcusable, inexcusable, inexcusable. The whole team with the exception of Grads had their head up their a——e, the coaching staff should be drawn and quartered, and Fassel should be burned at the stake. I never heard a worse played game on both sides. This is the worst. The worst.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
I am so angry right now. i want blood to spill starting with Cable, and a number of players. house “re-decorating” is about to begin.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
Jano should be cut there is no justifying him being in a Raider uniform.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
FML – we suck
September 26th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
Pitos
September 26th, 2010 at 4:41 pm
Grads played good at the end. Drove the team down field and gave us a chance to win. F all the haters. This game is on the coaching and the special teams including the gimme TD to open the game.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:41 pm
Season is over people
September 26th, 2010 at 4:41 pm
They better have Jano out at practice this week doing non-stop kicking.
We had a golden opportunity a number of times and failed every damn time.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:41 pm
Jano has to be cut. Once again, you miss like that you are no longer a RELIABLE option. His confidence is shot forever.
AS for the season….sorry folks…that’s the difference between 10-10 and 6-10 right there
September 26th, 2010 at 4:41 pm
tom cable had a brain fart on 2& goal at the 0.5 yard line. delay of game? that play cost us as much as Jano…but jano is a POS, he is the polish Jamarcus, he can kick it a mile but can’t play football. period.

September 26th, 2010 at 4:43 pm
32 yards is a fg that you expect your kicker to make in this league. The problem is Hue’s play calling in the 2nd half has been god awful. How many times did we pass vs run in the redzone today? Just awful

September 26th, 2010 at 4:45 pm
Well, the team is really not that “good” so in the grand scheme of things is doesn’t matter.
That O-Line can’t hold up against decent to good teams…it just won’t.
So you have to roll with it. There will be games like this all year.
As for Janikowksi….is he worth all that money they paid him?
Or should they have let him “walk” and gotten a decent Left Tackle….
That line is AWFUL!
Nice play call on 2 and inches too.
Cable is a bad coach and a handicapp….Jano is now a bust
September 26th, 2010 at 4:46 pm
CHOKELAND RAIDERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 26th, 2010 at 4:46 pm
The wrong team won that game. Half-yard line 7 points staring you right in the face and you decide to do something cute. Henderson takes that stupid 5 yard penalty to back up Jano on that 58 yarder cost us another 3. Then on the last FG they would have been better off not putting it right in the middle of the field. If it was on hash maybe it would have gone down the middle instead of off to the side. And that jerk Cable was the only one in the stadium who didn’t know he missed it.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:46 pm
We can beat Houston and even our record and still be ok but theres ZERO room for error.

They are in shotgun so the QB has an extra second to see the line…..
The o-line is sooooooooo bad you can’t have the QB under center.

Some 2 minute drill…we wasted 40 seconds after the first play and counted down 15-20 on the last.
Might have been able to gouge out a few more yards in that lost minute for an easier Jano FG or dare I say a TD even.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:47 pm
It was the right play just poorly executed. It should not have come down to that play. We left and easy 13 point off the board because of poor play calling and poor execution.
Today was a total failure of all facets:
• Play calling
• Special teams
• O-line
• D-line
• Excessive penalties – no discipline
• Bad game plan

I regret not joining a fantasy league. That way I would have something to look forward on Sunday. Ariz. Gave us the GAME but we managed to somehow lose it. This lose would be easier to digest if Ariz had played a good game.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:50 pm
I love the Raiders, but we deserved to lose.
We were given many gifts thoughout the game and did not turn them into points.
-Grads is lucky he didn’t throw 5 picks
-Why not run more?
-penalties
I could go on all day!
September 26th, 2010 at 4:50 pm
I had a feeling they should have tried to score a TD with that last drive. Cable, or whoever the heck was responsible, is an idiot! SH!T!!!!! I’m so p1ssed off right now. Your kicker is having a bad day, punch the muthafugin ball in the endzone! And SEABASS – U SUCK!!!!
September 26th, 2010 at 4:50 pm
Heartbreaking. Ball stays straight or curves a half-second later and we’re celebrating 2-1 while the Donks and Chargers both lose.
That’s one you need to get when you’re a team like the Raiders.
On the bright side, it’s clear Gradkowski was the right choice.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:50 pm
You all that are blaming COACHING? Are you CRAZY? If we had an AVERAGE kicker we’d be 2-1. That’s all that matters. We over came our TERRIBLE offensive line and won this game. Who misses a 32yd field goal, even if you AREN’T drafted in the 1st round? This is one of the worst losses EVER. 100% BECAUSE OF A KICKER!!!??? I can’t handle these losses. I’d rather lose 42-0 because then I’d feel we DESERVED TO LOSE. WE LOST BECAUSE OF A FAT SLOB KICKER. I can’t handle this loss. SICKENING
September 26th, 2010 at 4:50 pm
The cards tried to gift wrap that one for em, but they just kept dropping it. It was right there for the taking.
Pass interference in the endzone. First and goal at the goal line and come away with only 3. Inexcusable.
Mario false starts and moves it out to the six yd line. Can’t have it.
This team fought hard and battled all day. Jano has to make that kick. If he does, we’re all slapping virtual high fives and talking about a hard earned road win.
He misses, and you guys want the coach fired.

This is why we lost:
Murphy didn’t outrun the DBs on that long catch n run.
Bush can’t punch it in from the 1.
Next play delay of game.

Oh well…..going to the game next week. 1st in Oaktown….they lost, I am over being upset now.
They gave up way too many opportunities and would have been smashed by a decent team.
The offensive line is not even competitive really. The Raiders have NO left tackle and Cable refuses to swallow his pride and go with Khalif…who would at least be serviceable.
This is what happens when you neglect the lines.
No John Henderson…..
No left or right tackle……
Trevor Scott over Shaughnessy
Cute playcalling on 2nd and inches
And a kicker with a big leg and no accuracy.

I want to find a silver lining but it’s hard. That game was given to them. Event though there are a slew of F-k ups at least they were being competitive and still in the game. At least that is an improvement from last year and the JR show.
It’s only week 3. That’s what I keep telling myself. It’s only week 3.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:54 pm
Because of MISSED F*&^%^&* FIELD GOALS, we will now be 1-6 after week 7. I would say different if the score said something else today but we LOST!!!!!!!!!! Now they will get rolled by Houston and their confidence will be in the gutter and the debaucle will begin. This game meant everything to a team trying to find themselves. 2-1 would have been HUGE!
By the way, Gradkowski was ok, but i counted 5 blatant misses not under pressure. Just flat out misses. with all that being said we have a chance to win and we don’t.
Gosh i don’t know how to accept a loss based on 3 missed field goals. Losses are acceptable when you just get beaten. We didn’t get beaten, or outplayed even. We were the better team. Thats why its so freaking impossible to accept that the Cardinals get to celebrate a win. This is gut wrenching.
I am sick. Unreal!!!!!! You don’t lose a game you should have won!!!!

OK let me start by saying this team SUCKS just as bad as the previous years. Nothing is different. Same bunch of losers, same result. No matter how bad AZ wanted us to win that game, that team just couldn’t do it. Seriously they placed their head to the barrel of the gun, and the raiders couldn’t pull the trigger. If they can’t win that game, it’s all down hill from here.
I mean come on, that O line is beyond horrible! Could not figure out the blitz to save their life. Mario Henderson is Super all right, super stupid. Thanks for all those false starts. The 1st and goal at the 1 was really nice offensive execution. HS teams play with more heart. We had next to no pressure all day, and we STILL can’t cover kicks! ALL year now!

We had a discussion a while back. I tried to stick up for Jano (going against my better judgement) I’m a man and will say you have some valid points. I guess Jano is a perfect example of what the Raiders breed. truly sad! I bet if he were on a team that had some disicpline we would have seen a different outcome today.
How long am I going to put myself through this!?!?!?!?!
Friggin Raiders are the ultimate heartbreakers!
September 26th, 2010 at 4:57 pm
Worse thing that ever happened to me was becoming a Raider fan. I hate this f’ing team. Only reason I still am a fan is because I must have a mental disorder where I like to torture myself.
They give me nothing but f’ing misery.

if they cut the stevie brown kid one more time, man, athe kid makes plays that’s it, stop cutting and bringing him back he needs to be on the team, another al davis player lost the game for the raiders, hit his pocket book, F.. mr davis, i’m sick of this, you miss 3 field goals i mean really, and also it was third down with plenty of time, run 1 more play before we hand it to mr miss a field goal today, man let your offense have one shot at it or at least run it to get closer, that was a bad call, run one play then kick if you don’t get in.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:57 pm

September 26th, 2010 at 4:58 pm
It does matter who the opponent is. They needed to beat this equally bad team and because they didn’t and the fact that the schedule gets harder now, they will start going down the drain. I’ll say it again, this game meant everything for this team. LOSS. And now they schedule is going to kill their confidence. Guaranteed.
September 26th, 2010 at 4:59 pm
Seabass was letting the pressure get to him. You could tell. They showed him in pregame warmups nailing them from 60+. After the 2nd missed field goal, the coaches should have said ‘ok, we need to score a TD on this last drive’. That or get down to extra point range!
September 26th, 2010 at 4:59 pm
When you play for field goals more than likely you’re going to lose the game.
Again, Cable terrible mismanagement of the game in particular in the red zone, this red zone debacle is as old as the losing seasons.
Cable needs to quit and get out of town.
Janiko has burnt the Raiders way too many times before, and he had no business missing so badly today.
The problem continues to be stupid penalties and miss opportunities.

What I seen since he was drafted in games is he hooks them wide. Remember one year he hit the FK’ng post like 4 times!!! Who hits the post that much ?
He has been garbage since day 1 I dont care about his total. He should retire from football because AL doesn’t have the FK’ing stones to cut him!

gotta say though i though rolando mcclain was makin his presence felt out there today. i have no idea how a guy tackles with so much force without getting into a crouch at all. he hits standing up and i think that’s why he’s looked like a “weak” hitter. nope, he brings it.

Seabass is the biggest goat, and there is plenty of blame to go around. The bottom line folks is we can’t score TDs. That’s the bottom line. Very strange that Bush couldn’t make it over the goal line from the one. Bruce was very average, to say the least. He’s a fighter, but he made some horrendous decisions. The defense can’t find a way for Nnamdi to make plays. Just a bizarre game, one that a supposedly improved Raider team should have won by at least 10 points. Pathetic, pathetic, pathetic!

Don’t have a huge problem with the playcalling. It’s about the execution. DHB has to catch the damn ball! In the end though, he drew the penalty that should have won us the game. Again, bad execution on Jano’s part. We got way too many breaks today to lose that game. But I think this team is way better than last year. Not too worried about Houston or SD.

September 26th, 2010 at 5:14 pm
So he missed a 32 yard kick, the OL missed EVERY effin thing coming at them in the second half!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 26th, 2010 at 5:14 pm
Obviously this loss sucks.
But I think this team is playing much better than the teams of years past. Now the mistakes are magnified because the games are tighter, but they are fixable mistakes. You could tell Janikowski was going to miss just by the look on his face on the sideline during the final drive.
That being said, Mario Henderson doesnt deserve a flight home tonight. There is nothing to suggest he will ever get over his false start/pass blocking problems. Play Barnes at LT and veldheer at RT.
The recievers are noticably better. We are starting to see dividends for playing them all season last year.
The defense looks good, I think the pass rush needs to step up but against the run we have been respectable. Routt and Branch still have their mistakes in coverage
Overall I think the offense is miles ahead of where it was last year and a loss like this can really force a team to cut down on the mental mistakes, the players can look at this game and know that the plays that cost them are under their control.
Typical Raider win next week- coming off a bad loss, at home against a team everyone expects to beat us.

Jano should be cut.
Mario Henderson should be cut.
Fire the Special Teams coach.
Cable should be told he has one more week to get his act together.
Ditto for Hue Jackson.
John Henderson needs to start on the D line and move Seymour to the end spot.
Get Haynesworth to share snaps with Henderson.
We can’t keep doing this “Stay The course, we’ll go look at the film, we’re almost there, we’ll bounce back, we’ll put this game behind us crap.”
It’s almost unbearable to watch these performances week after week.

September 26th, 2010 at 5:18 pm
Come on. You guys trying to cut some slack for Jano are ridiculous! Basically a 95% kick for any place kicker in NFL history, and he botches it. He is mentally incapable of the pressure. He ruined the geme. He has one task and he is a COMPLETE FAILURE!

Jhill,
After all the blowouts that’s all you can ask.
This game was still much more fun to watch than any of that b.s in prior years.
They just aren’t that good yet. Holes in CRITICAL positions….can’t win like that.
But they are getting better in spots…
September 26th, 2010 at 5:21 pm
Let’s be honest. The Oakland Raiders are, and will continue to be losers, until proven otherwise. Not much reason to believe this season is any different than the previous 7. You never see a complete game. Last week they showed up in the 2nd half, today the 1st half. Same old sad, effing story! I am so sick of the losers that wear the uniform of the Silver and Black!
September 26th, 2010 at 5:21 pm
Why the hell are people whining about Cable deferring to the 2nd half. I like it. If you’re behind at halftime, you get the ball first. If you’re ahead…score and build on the lead.
You have a struggling Ariz team with Derek Anderson at QB…hell yeah kick off to em.
Unfortunately, it didn’t work out, and the dude took it to the house. But that is hindsight and all.
I like the strategy. If Jano makes a 32 yarder, all this whining is moot.
Denver and SD both lost. I watched KC vs. Cleveland last week. They are coming back to earth.
Come back in off the ledge fellas. I understand there is a lotta steam being blown off, but damn.
September 26th, 2010 at 5:21 pm
How does Jano get on that airplane and look his teammates in the face? Good point about Al–if he wakes up tomorrow morning with a pulse it will be a miracle. Might have to pull a weekend at bernies so we can make personnel moves.
September 26th, 2010 at 5:21 pm
I have to admit, I wanted Philip Rivers to throw a TD at the end of their game….and then have their FG kicker miss the extra point lol.

September 26th, 2010 at 5:22 pm
Cutting Jano might seem extreme but again, I ask…your team is in the playoffs, you need a kick to win….will Jano hit it? I don’t think so. Can’t handle pressure. In pregame warmups he was nailing them right down the middle from 60+. Put him in the game and suddenly he’s missing long and short kicks. That last one was a gimme. Every kicker in this friggin league hits that FG!!! Much less a 1st rounder. Please….the guy is garbage.
September 26th, 2010 at 5:23 pm
WTF……
Sad thing is we should’ve known he was gonna miss the way he was rubbing his head with that towel, sweating all nervous and $h!t…. WTF are you sweating for? You’re in an Air conditioned dome and you don’t even do crap but stand on the sideline?!!! His confidence is shot….good grief
September 26th, 2010 at 5:24 pm
Seabass shouldn’t have missed that field goal but it shouldn’t have come down to that.
It came down to that because in the second half the offensive line and the play calling sucked.

The Saints kicker missed a chip shot in ot today. Do you think they will cut him? i have to say, giving him all that money doesnt look like a good call right now. Janikowski today was just another example of a team that doesnt know how to handle pressure because they havent been in those situations. You guys see disaster, and I see growing pains. That was a reasonably talented team playing their home opener and we outplayed them. As a Raider fan I can take some good things from that.

September 26th, 2010 at 5:30 pm
Hartley was already on the hot-seat for missing FGs this season. Saints will cut him. Raiders should Janikowski. Enough’s enough. 11 years, he’s had 1 year year to validate his roster spot. Lechler on the other hand is a champ.
September 26th, 2010 at 5:31 pm

September 26th, 2010 at 5:31 pm
djohnnyg, post 134, EXACTLY MY FEELINGS! I don’t enjoy the games and I’m MISERABLE the whole time. Yet we should have WON. Maybe we played badly, but we lossed because our kicker can’t make a chip shot. I wish I could just say we suck. Much easier. But we should be 2-1. At least some HOPE for 8-8. And we lose because of a kicker. I don’t care about missed opportunities or anything before that, we WOULD HAVE WON IF FATSO MAKES A 32 YARD FIELD GOAL. Any other kicker makes that. That is why we lost, bottom line!
September 26th, 2010 at 5:32 pm
Yeah cut Jano….just what we need, another hole to fill.
I think we have bigger fish to fry.
September 26th, 2010 at 5:32 pm
Team A: 364 yards of offense with 1 turnover
Team B: 227 yards of offense with 3 turnovers
Which team wins? Well the team with the POS kicker, of course!
Our QB outplayed their QB. Our RB outplayed their RBs. Our WRs outplayed their receivers. And we were gifted timely penalties to keep drives alive and 3 turnovers……yet we lose. SH1T!!!
September 26th, 2010 at 5:32 pm
Janikowski has had 1 good season. The guy is a useless excuse of a field goal kicker. One of Al’s extremely many gaffes in the 2000s. Team of the decades ended in 1984.

September 26th, 2010 at 5:36 pm
Well I’m hoping for 8-8 on the season. That’s my realistic hope. If we can do that I can at least say that it’s improvement.
KC is running away with this thing right now. SD and Denver are no better than us right now, but we have to be realistic. We weren’t gonna win a SB this season.
We are taking steps in the right direction. But I’m tired of the same old dumb filled hen stuff week after week.

Only the Raiders find a way to lose this game.
There’s nothing to talk about because this “team” will ALWAYS find a way to lose.

Former Saints kicker John Carney will work out for N.O. this week. Saints must decide whether to go with replacement or Garrett Hartley.
…………..
Hartley helped the Saints get a ring. Missed a kick today and the Saints are already on the phone.
Janokowski will be in Oakland next week after missing 3.
This is why the Raiders continue to suck. No accountability.

Tom cable needs to give janikowski the pimp hand, because he single “leggedly” blew this one for us. Everygame counts. Weeks from now we’re going to all look back at this game wishing he’d of made that field goal because it may be what keeps us out of the playoffs. The defense fought hard, if it weren’t for that run back at the start of the game we win easy. But a 32 yarder??? Idk, i think jano may have blew this one on purpose.smh

Beach,
Trust me, I can’t stand the losing. If I’m guilty of anything it’s taking my Raider football waaayyy too seriously. It’s almost unhealthy the obsession I’ve had with this team for over 30 years. It’s almost silly how it will affect my mood when I get up to go to work tomorrow, really.
They squandered a chance to win a game they should’ve won. Plain and simple. It was gut wrenching and heart breaking. It shouldn’t have happened. Jano has to make that kick. We’d all be happy campers.
I do believe this team is getting better. DMac is finally healthy, and if he can stay that way is due for his breakout year. DHB is even showing signs of life. Grads is making plays. Baby steps.
This team thumped Houston a couple of years ago, and they can do it again. KC is not going to run away with this division. I can see the falling back ala McDaniels and the Broncos last year.
Take a deep breath fellas.
September 26th, 2010 at 5:59 pm

Grads kept throwing into coverage when rushed despite wide open receivers
Balls dropped!!!
Seabass @$*&^%#^*
They were only in it because of cards errors

September 26th, 2010 at 6:01 pm

Period!
September 26th, 2010 at 6:02 pm

I was gonna write a rebuttal until I read it all. Other than the hypothetical stuff you gotta focus on what happened. When we got into the redone Henderson backed us up. When we kicked it, Jano missed. It’s that simple.

Mario Henderson should have officially hung himself on his short leash by now. The guy has flashes where he plays well, just enough to tantalize, and then other times he just kills this team. he is a two ton anchor that drags this offense to the bottom of the San Francisco bay. Get Veldheer up to speed or move big Bruce Campbell back to his natural spot or something. Anything. Mario’s brain cramps are killing this team. as well as his QB, occasionally. Literally. He is going to get somebody hurt. JC lookes shell shocked after one preseason with Mario at LT.

Armchair- you nailed it right on the head. Over 31 games Tom Cable’s record is 10-21. So many opportunities miss handled and a lapse in mental focus loses us the game. But I will admit we look a lot more promising than last year which should equate to at least 2-3 more wins and a new coach
September 26th, 2010 at 6:08 pm
Reasons why the Raiders lost:
1.play calling-(1-5 in red zone), not getting Dmac involved near the goaline, targeting DHB 11 times and time managemet.
( that was the dumbiest end of half call ive ever seen, why run a toss to Dmac on the 4yrd line, with no timeouts and less then 10 secs on the clock. If he doesnt get in, we get 0 pts) wtf
2. The line is garbage, we cant fix a leaky hose with glue, its just no working. gallery and maybe langston walker are the only ones that can start in the NFL. and stop putting all the blame on Jano, the first misses were brought back do to dumb penalites.
3. the Raiders def is predicatable. play man, ( only zone near goaline and rarely blitz on early downs)
but there is hope, all is def not lost….even in a loss it still improvement from last yrs team

September 26th, 2010 at 6:08 pm
I absolutely love Grads enthusiasm. But, he’s very careless with the ball. There should have been at least 4 INT’s for the other guys today – assuming their DB’s could catch. We need JC’s arm strength & accuracy combined with Grad’s leadership. I don’t know how we make that happen but we aren’t going anywhere until we do. Today’s game plan & play calling was suspect to say the least. I don’t know why we were so pass heavy when we have a poor pass blocking O-line and relatively new WR’s. Top that off with a short & often inaccurate QB and you have the makings of a disaster. We have two good RB’s. Why wasn’t our plan built around ball control? It should have been 75% running and 25% passing. It seemed to me that almost every pass play was a mini-bomb type play. I really think Hue Jackson let us down this week – bad game plan. Jano plainly let the team down by not executing one of the main things he’s paid to do, kick field goals. He failed miserably 3 times today. Absolutely no excuse for that level of poor performance. Maybe he should be relegated to cleaning the toilets at HQ this week. Maybe he’ll understand that if he can’t get his primary job correctly, he got training for his next career path.
AD & Cable need to fix the problems at ORT, ORG, C, OLG & OLT. Wait a minute, that’s the whole damn O-line. Yep, you guessed it we need a major fix on the O-line. If Gallery can return & stay healthy, he’ll do OK at OLG. Satele, Carlisle & MHenderson are total write-offs. Walker would be salvageable at ORG. If not him then Loper would work. AD needs to sigh Justin Hartwig, recently released starting center for the Steelers. That takes care of OLG, C & ORG. We need Veldeer & BCampbell to develop sooner than later. I’m not seeing Veldheer at OLT. ORT might be OK. If so, let’s start working him out there. If not him, maybe BCampbell. I don’t care which, let’s just get on with it. Find a LT somewhere and get him in here NOW!. In the interim, maybe Barnes or one of the new kids can fill in. They won’t be any worse than MHenderson is right now. Use MHenderson as a guard backup. He should be serviceable there. Lastly, let’s get back to a run heavy ball control offense. That’s about all our O-line can handle right now.

In the NFL there’s a half a second between a TD and int for 6. Joe Montana’s game winning TD to John Taylor was less than half a second from having the dback’s fingers on tipping it. Sanchez just threw a TD pass that was .5 sec from the LB turning around and picking it.
So to sit there and say there should of could of been more picks is rediculous. Hell Jano should of won the game for us but he didnt. The bottomline is Grad and the team played well enough to win. Jano and Hue let the team down today.

My fear is Raiders get blown out at Home against Houston then find a way to choke against SD.
1-4 and on the way to another 4 or 5 win season.
September 26th, 2010 at 6:29 pm
Unfortunately, this game shows that the Raiders are still not a very good team. The first step is consistency. It does not do much goed to get an 8 yard sack if the next play gives up an 18 yard completion. The Raiders need to be more consistent before then can improve as a teeam.
September 26th, 2010 at 6:29 pm

September 26th, 2010 at 6:30 pm
no way we beat sd, hou, sf, or the donks.
September 26th, 2010 at 6:30 pm
This was defenitely one they let get away. Tough loss. Next week is big. They need to show some moxie. This is a young team learning how to win. They can beat Houston. Beat em pretty good in ‘08. One of McFaddens’s better games coming into this year.
And just like he did today against Larry Fitzgerald, back then he shut out Andre Johnson. It was a muddy game in the coliseum, and Johnson’s uni was completely white at games end. He was a non-factor. Nnamdi shut him down. Needs to do it again.
Win next week and even the record at 2-2 and everything could be alright. Lose and drop to 1-3 and the “here we go again” attitude could start to set in. Amongst the players. Most of you guys are already there.
The good news is, KC is not going to run away with this division. The Raiders are 1-2 like everybody else.

Vegas, I don’t think Jano buckled. I just don’t think he cares, period. A Davis scholarship if there ever was one. What’s on the line? He makes it, he’s got a job. He misses? He’s got a job. Al drafted him in the first round. Cable needs to find out if any players ever kicked in high school or college, and line them up for our next field goal. Tell Jano to ride pine. When Al calls him up to his office, Cable should say, “what? I’m busy”.

September 26th, 2010 at 6:38 pm
The sloppiness has to be cleaned up. Not being able to get the FG team on the field was inexcuseable. Having to burn a timeout. That was BS. You’re either on the fg team or not. Shuttling players in and out. Sad.
The penalties have to be cleaned up. The judgement calls, can’t do nothing about. The Raiders are gonna get their fair share of those, and then some. Some of the PI’s and holding calls, etc.
But, it’s the false starts and the offsides that are just mind numbing. Especially in the red zone. Those turn potential Td’s into FG’s. That is killing this team. They are actually moving the ball much better. Just settling for too many FG’s…or FG attempts. Damn.

As I said, of course seabass should have made the kick.
It should, however, never have come down to that.
We played like crap in the second half. The play calling sucked and the OL was terrible.
Seems like Al has to be looking at either bringing Harbough in or Gruden back because the coaching is all over the place.

September 26th, 2010 at 6:44 pm
LT Dan you are right about 1998. We would have gone 11-5 with an AVERAGE kicker. Just like we’d be 2-1 with a BELOW average kicker. He actually could have gotten away with missing a 41yd field goal earlier(which is unacceptable for the HIGHEST PAID SPECIALIST IN NFL HISTORY) if he makes a f’n 32yd field goal at the end. Everyone would have gotten over how over paid he is. But he missed the 32yd field goal at the end, and because of THAT “the Raiders are terrible. Can’t coach, can’t call plays” etc. All because a kicker misses a 99% kick. THAT ONLY lost the game. I don’t care if the win “wouldn’t have been pretty.” Every 11-5 and better team has 2 or 3 “ugly wins” every year. That mised field goal ruined the entire season for me.

I believe kckers should have incentives and disincentives in their contracts. Make a FG and collect an extra $5,000. Miss a FG and pay back $25,000. Miss a game winner of less than 30 yards = minus $100,000. 31-45 yards = minus $50,000. Miss 46- 55 yards minus $35,000. Miss beyond 55 yards = just the regular $25,000. Incentives make things happen the way you want them to happen. Disincentives hold people accountable for their lack of performance .

Honest to God, I don’t know if I can listen to any more games. My nerves can’t take it. I knew they were struggling, but I thought there was some progress. Instead they had a 52-car pileup. When you follow something you have absolutely no control over and you see it go down in flames again and again, it makes you want to turn in your badge. That game was gift-wrapped for them and they couldn’t even untie the string to open the package. I can’t remember a more disorganized, undisciplined, stupid Raiders team than this one was today.

When it’s all said and done. there is only one person to blame – Janakowski. If he makes the kick, all is well and all the other screw-ups are either forgotten or forgiven. If he misses it which he did, we all end up justifiably pissing & moaning about all the team’s shortcomings, of which there are many. He missed is and it was totally achievable with minimal effort. That should have been a chip shot and we should now be 2-1. Were not and it’s HIS FAULT. The snap was good, the hold was good, the line was adequate, the weather conditions were favorable but the kicker was defective. He didn’t do his job. He failed. He should clean toilets at HQ this whole next week as payback. Every action should have a payoff/payback. In this case his play was schit. Therefore, his reward for non-performance, to the crapper with him.

Running the ball down there wouldn’t have necessarily gotten us into the endzone. Grads was throwing against single coverage and he went to the right place. Toler had no clue out there. He missed a throw and DHB showed the same brick hands he had last year. But we need that guy to produce. At least he’s getting open now. I think I’m starting to lean toward DHB now in the DHB vs Crabtree debate. Crabtree is the opposite of explosive.
September 26th, 2010 at 7:26 pm
Jano may have blown this game for us but it was hue Jackson’s fault that We couldn’t convert at least one of those field goal attempts into a touchdown. Does he understand that our starting QB wasnt good enough to be a back up on the browns? The f-ing browns! Clearly we should not be throwing the ball so often
September 26th, 2010 at 7:29 pm
Not scoring a TD on the goal line was freakin ridiculous.
Not going for a TD in the last minute instead of playing conservative and relying on a freakin kicker to win the game is girlie football!
Cable and Hue blew it on that one and so did Seabass!
Hue should have called more roll out plays and moved the pocket to buy him some more time!
Why do both Cable and Hue hate calling roll out plays that will buy the QB more time??
September 26th, 2010 at 7:30 pm
This team is #3 in defensive yards allowed and around #20 in points given. It’s the opposite of a bend-don’t-break.
Offense is #11 in total yards but #29 in total points. The exact opposite. We move the ball but don’t score.
If there is anything good it is at least we are doing something right. We were never good at putting up the yards or stopping anything. So, now if we iron out kinks (and penalties) there’s a chance. It just looks like always that we find a way to lose. Hopefully we don’t go back to losing by 20+ points again next week and really revert to old form.

September 26th, 2010 at 7:31 pm
“We had a lot of opportunities, but that one goal-line stand is right now killing me,” Gradkowski said. “I take responsibility. I should have called a time out, but my competitiveness said, ‘We can pull this off.’ I saw the clock and knew I wanted the ball and QB sneak and get in there. I have to be better than that — call a time out, regroup and put it in the end zone.”
“It’s very shocking,” Oakland running back Darren McFadden said. “I call him Automatic Seabass, so it’s just one of those things. If he kicked that ball 100 times, he’s going to make 99 of them. It just so happened that he missed that one.”
Janikowski, who left without talking to reporters, missed two other field goals: a 41-yarder and a 58-yarder. Both were wide right. He made kicks from 22, 54 and 23 yards.

As far as players go, this loss is on Janakowski, plain and simple. Just like New Orleans loss is on their kicker.
If Gradkowski is to blame then Drew Brees is to blame for New Orleans loss. Brees threw two picks.
So when Brees throws two picks but battles back, and rallies his team to within field goal range and his kicker misses the shot, it the kickers fault…But when Gradkowski does the same thing, he’s a no good backup QB.
Some of you guys are nothing short of mentally challenged.
Despite everything that happened, and all of the mistakes made by both coaches and players, Janikowski lost this game on the field plain and simple.

September 26th, 2010 at 7:41 pm
When a team is in position to score on the final play of a game, whoever blows it on THAT play, BLEW THE GAME. Period. Football games come down to final moments. It’s the very essence of the game. The best franchises build their teams for the final 3 seconds of games, because so many games will come down to those precious moments. Do you have a receiver that can jump up and grab one in double coverage? Do you have a half back that can dive over 8 defenders? Do you have a QB with a presence of mind to find the best receiver to get the ball to when 8 defenders are rushing at him? Lastly, do you have a field goal kicker WHO CAN MAKE A 30 YARD F’N CHIP SHOT???????!!!!!!!????????/
September 26th, 2010 at 7:41 pm

Ball swerves right instead of left and we’re partying right now. What can you do? Horrible outcome to swallow. Guys fought hard all game and Janikowski slices one a half-yard wide and that’s the diff.
At least it was nice to see a reasonably competent offense out there. It’s been years. McFadden was awesome again. I love how Gradkowski is pushing the ball down field and making plays. Keep it up Brucey. The young WRs are really starting to make things happen with BG slinging it.
Aside from Janikowski pretty much single-handedly blowing this one, the o-line continues to be the biggest concern. They did pave the way for another 100+ yard day on the ground, but all too often it was pretty much a jailbreak by the Cards’ d-line and blitzers.
The other problem I had was with Hue’s playcalling in the 3rd quarter. Seemed like we tightened up and got very conservative and thus very predictable with a 3-point lead. We basically wasted that quarter and any chance to put a little distance up on hte scoreboard.

No doubt Seabass should’ve won it for us, but to blame the entire game on him is to dismiss everything else. Our offense is just not there yet. The special teams helped the Cards stay in a game they may have gotten blown out of. We moved the ball well in the first half but that ST’s TD got them going and their confidence up. It’s extremely hard to win on the road when you start like that.
If we stuff them and score to start they’re probably never in the game. For us to come back and score after that says a ton about this team. But we still have a long way to go to be an elite team obviously. Jano is still way too much of a crutch for our offense. Those who say he sucks and we should cut him are flat out stupid. he’s been one of the better kickers in the game for years. He had a bad day or a bad final kick. Which made the entire day look bad.
We were in the redzone 5 times when your kicking FG’s your chances of winning on the road expecially giving up a ST’s TD are very slim. Our ground game has to get better and better if we want to have a decent season. Without it teams will gameplan Grads and it’ll get ugly. Where did DMC’s speed go? he seems to have lost a couple of steps. He’s not playing as fast as he times.
The defense on the road has been very good which is the best sign of a great defense. If your defense travels well you’ll have many chances to win on the road if you don’t give up cheap TD’s on teams.

But I digress. I’ll tend to agree with those who blame Gradkowski and the coaching. I guess you would have to blame them for letting the game get into the hands of a Davis scholarship kicker like Janikowski. I guess you can say that we should blame Grads and the coaches for not scoring enough points to keep the game as far from Jano’s hands as possible. Putting any game into the hands of an Al Davis scholarship player is a loss. That’s one thing we’ve learned through the years as Raider fans. So in that sense, I guess this is on the coaches and Grad. Sort of like how you’d have to blame the owners of a dog for letting a dog get out and start a traffic accident. The dog can’t help itself, just like the Al Davis scholarship kicker can’t help sucking.

————————-
Amen. Gut-wrenching loss but at least we got to watch a functioning offense. Something that has been all but extinct the last 7 years.
Love how Gradkowski keeps his eyes down field and isn’t afraid to fit it in a tight window 20+ yards away. If he stays healthy behind this line (tall order) we’ll be a tough out.
Plenty of good teams are 1-2. The story of this season is far from written.

Who else should we blame. Doesn’t matter if they fumbled, pissed around, and f’cked off every series before the last one.

September 26th, 2010 at 7:51 pm
The Raiders scored a TD in the 1st quarter for the 1st time in 10 games (Week 10 vs Chiefs last season).
In an even more preposterous indication of how insanely bad the Raiders offense has been — the last time the Raiders scored a TD in the 1st quarter of a road game was almost 3 years ago on September 30, 2007.
I’d say that’s an improvement at QB at least.
September 26th, 2010 at 7:52 pm
Gradkowski plays fearless and with heart.
When he has time, he throws an accurate pass. He knows the o-line and Janikowski laid a rotten egg out there, but he didn’t throw any of his guys under the bus.
He took the blame for the loss himself.
That’s leadership, that’s what you wanna see from your starting QB.
He’s a stand up guy. He deserves to be the starter.
Nothing has changed from what I said before the season even started…
Fix The O-Line, Win The Division!

The goat: After an excellent season last year, Janikowski killed his team Sunday. A pro like Janikowski has to make a 32-yarder to win the game. Inexcusable.
September 26th, 2010 at 7:53 pm
Priest, I agree. If your field goal kicker is someone that Al Davis drafted in the first round a decade ago, you can NOT let the game get into his hands. You have to score enough points to make sure the Davis scholarship player isn’t needed on the final play of the game. So, you’re right. It’s on the team, the non Al Davis scholarships, for not getting far enough ahead to where Davis’s hand picked players couldn’t blow it for them.

NO’s kicker won the game last week cost them the game this week. Should they cut him as well……..it’s really ignorant to say that. This stuff happens to every team at least once a year. That’s why next time we’re at someones 15 yd line with a minute to go you always attempt a TD until it’s obvious that it’s too risky (no time outs, or 3rd and long) of which we had time and downs plus t/o’s Madden would always take a shot just in case he could get it. It was 1st and 10 at the 15 take a shot then go for the FG. Occasionally a shot in the endzone works.

September 26th, 2010 at 7:57 pm
I can’t blame Cable for not running another play and going for a TD, or a shorter field goal. I think every coach in the league would have done the same.
What I am bothered by is that thick roll of fat on the back of Cable’s head. That can’t be healthy.

I guess no one saw the series where the offense couldn’t punch it in from the one foot line for the go ahead touchdown in the fourth. for whatever reason they couldn’t beat the play clock to call a QB sneak. Ridiculous.
Janikowski had no business missing that field goal but there are two bums on that team. Henderson and Routt. Branch is becoming dangerously close to making that list too. Every time somethin gets F’ed up I guarantee that a 26, 75, or 33 will be somewhere within the four corners of your screen.
September 26th, 2010 at 7:59 pm

September 26th, 2010 at 8:00 pm
I’ve been hard on Cable in the past, but you can’t blame him for his handling of the last minute. Any other coach in the NFL handles that pretty much the same way. Maybe we could’ve had Grads run a naked bootleg off a fake handoff to McFadden and hoped the Cards totally sold out, but otherwise what would you have him call?
And don’t forget McFadden’s past ball control issues. Plus most teams go for the FG on 3rd down in case there’s a bad snap the holder can spike it.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:01 pm
Sure he should’ve won it but you always take a shot in the endzone in that situation don’t put all your eggs in one basket. All you telll your QB is never take a sack throw it away if it’s not there. Jano has been nails for the last 3 years we just haven’t had an offense to speak of.
It’s his fault he didn’t make it to win it for us, but it’s not his fault we didn’t win.

Things I can never get with Al Davis.
1. Why is V, a carbon copy of Gallery, playing LT as a rookie? If anything, he should be playing RT like most rookies in this league before the transition.
2. Why is Bruce Campbell, built like a prototype LT, playing Guard?
3. Why is the most seasoned LT on our roster not playing the starting LT position? Can’t be any worse than Mario or V.

you have to get outside of the tackle box to throw it away. Hard to do when their blitzing from the outside. Yeah your right. Take a shot throwing it into single coverage. I would have taken a shot at the end zone because they weren’t expecting it. You have to do the unexpected to succeed on offense.
Plus Jano had already missed two field goals aready.

We did the unexpected at the end of the first half and it worked. Had Jano made the final kick, we would not be hearing all these recriminations. Hindsight is always 20-20.

This team can’t win 2 games in a row to save their lives!!
Even when a team like the Cards was giving them the game to win!
Holy Toledo!?

We will see what Cable, Hue and the whole team is made of next weekend at home versus the Texans!
Will they fight or give up?

What is up with Richard Seymor? I saw him on The 5th Quarter show. Wimbley was being interview by Kim Correl and Seymor comes out of the locker room smiling from ear to ear. He adjusts Wimbley’s tie, laughs and states to Wimbley that he needs to know who Wimbley’s taylor is? Then walks off laughing. No evidence of loser’s remorse. I can’t say I blame him. When you have The Three Stooges acting as a HC, OC and ST, that is a funny joke! Better yet what is wrong with me!! I was sick to my stomach after the loss but now I am O.K. with it.

Jets going for the kill!!
Like what the Raiders should have done today!

Here’s the deal with Jano…every time he trots onto the field for a field goal, he HAS to make it. Plain and simple. A miss is not acceptable. 45 yards out…make it. 22 yards out…make it. 58 yards out…make it. And for the love of God…32 yards out for a game winner, MAKE IT!! That’s why he’s the highest paid kicker in the league. Anything else is not acceptable.
Arrrhhhggg!!!

Excuse me, but does anybody know what Hue Jackson’s winning percentage was in Baltimore? Yards per game average?

GOOD EVENING NATION
well, what can i say??? the raiders FIND ways to lose!!!!
there re a few bright spots from todays game, altho i will admit they are hard to see…
look closely,,, dmac is the real deal, imagine what he could do behind a good line…
murphy is the real deal as are rich seymour, zach miller, dan loper, shane lechler…
it is easy to see who must go,,mario flat out stinks as does his daddy… the raiders were poorly prepared. three timeouts in the first quarter?? i went to three pop warner games saturday that were better coached on both sides of the ball.
cable has NO CLUE.. he’s in way over his head…
jano must have been out drinking last night..and tell me again why he didn’t need to kick in camp.. it all boils down to the guru. send his azz packing along with the cupcakes on the line (m henderson, c. carlisle, and l walker..) johnny l higgins? ??? you can’t possibly think he is a good punt returner.. where is nick miller?? and j ford can’t seem to get into high gear….

Speaking of the Forty Niners. Their HC should have given his teams props for nearly beating N.O. Instead he tar and feathered them thru the media. The result speaks for itself. They were NOT flying around busting heads like last week. They played like the losers they are. As far as Crabtree? What a talented pile of dukie squash. Singletary had a whole different approach at today’s post game news conference: He gave his team credit for the way the played today, after today’s loss. I think he should stay in S.F. he is doing a fine job.

I think that they should have gone for another play on third down to get a close chip shot knowing jano was not having a good day.
