Final: Cardinals 24, Raiders 23

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, September 26th, 2010 at 4:35 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Sebastian Janikowski from 32 yards out . . . he missed it again. That’s three.

Arizona did everything it could to give the Raiders the game. Raiders wouldn’t take it.

Much more later in a painful postgame wrap . . .

The Faiders had no chance today,…the Cards tried all day to give them the game and the Faiders were too afraid to take it,..they are simply afraid to win, they dont know how to go about it,…Houston will humiliate them this sunday,…and that 1st round draft pick kicker wont even matter this time, did you guys see that scardy cat during that final drive, mopping the sweat from his bald head?…God he was scared, Im surprised he didnt miss the ball completely

    ^^^^^^^^
Yep….the Cards were giving the Raiders the game and they still couldn’t take it and win it.

If Harbaugh were the coach for todays game….no way in hell they lose like how they did!

    No way!

  • jerseyraider

If hue is our best option for calling plays at least we have andrew luck to look forward to. Throw the ball 3 time from inside the 5 and that our MVP thats sad

  • MistaBr0wn

H Jackson pooped in his britches during the 4th quarter. Was some of the worst play calling I’ve ever seen.

  • CJ Legend 34

I said it before and I will say it again. It is not managments fault or the coaches that we are losing these games.

The players need to realize they all haveto show up. When everwegetone player playing consistant such as DMAC we have another consistantplayer such as Seabass breakdown.

Until they allshow up and start being consistant this will not be a goodfootball team period. You are wasting your time to keep blaming coaches and Al.

  • Norco Bob

Jersey raider,…we dont have a 1st round pick next year,..so enough with the drafting Luck baloney…Im real.

  • DKnight007

Next weeks game versus Houston will show us all what this team is REALLY made of.

If they come out and play like crap….then they are quitters and if they fight hard to win and play well, then they have the fight that is needed to keep the season alive.

It’s unbelievable how these guys can’t win two freakin games in a row to save their lives! Especially when this game was being given to them to win!

  • Kirk

Next time try to score a touchdown and don’t rely on your kicker to win it.

  • fat kidd

MICHAEL JACKSON JANET JACKSON ANDREW JACKSON HUE JACKSON JESSIE JACKSON there is no such thing as a bad JACKSON

  • CJ Legend 34

I think Sea bass just paid off his debt to someone tonight. He never misses three. The guy must be in trouble in the streets. Someone just got paid. LOL!!! : )

  • RaiderDebo

Running the ball down there wouldn’t have necessarily gotten us into the endzone. Grads was throwing against single coverage and he went to the right place. Toler had no clue out there. He missed a throw and DHB showed the same brick hands he had last year. But we need that guy to produce. At least he’s getting open now. I think I’m starting to lean toward DHB now in the DHB vs Crabtree debate. Crabtree is the opposite of explosive.

  • jerseyraider

Jano may have blown this game for us but it was hue Jackson’s fault that We couldn’t convert at least one of those field goal attempts into a touchdown. Does he understand that our starting QB wasnt good enough to be a back up on the browns? The f-ing browns! Clearly we should not be throwing the ball so often

  • DKnight007

Not scoring a TD on the goal line was freakin ridiculous.

Not going for a TD in the last minute instead of playing conservative and relying on a freakin kicker to win the game is girlie football!

Cable and Hue blew it on that one and so did Seabass!

Hue should have called more roll out plays and moved the pocket to buy him some more time!

Why do both Cable and Hue hate calling roll out plays that will buy the QB more time??

  • raiderzmaverick

This team is #3 in defensive yards allowed and around #20 in points given. It’s the opposite of a bend-don’t-break.

Offense is #11 in total yards but #29 in total points. The exact opposite. We move the ball but don’t score.

If there is anything good it is at least we are doing something right. We were never good at putting up the yards or stopping anything. So, now if we iron out kinks (and penalties) there’s a chance. It just looks like always that we find a way to lose. Hopefully we don’t go back to losing by 20+ points again next week and really revert to old form.

  • DKnight007

Thank god Grads is the QB now….he is a fiery leader and he has better rapport with the O-Linemen and WR’s than Campbell does.

Too bad that lobotomy didn’t work out for you.

    …………

If I need a lobotomy you need to have your brains pulled out and replaced with a 9-bolt battery. Maybe then you’ll realize that if Jano makes that chip shot, the Raiders win. Maybe you’ll be able to tie your own shoes, too. But let’s not get our hopes up. One step at a time.

“We had a lot of opportunities, but that one goal-line stand is right now killing me,” Gradkowski said. “I take responsibility. I should have called a time out, but my competitiveness said, ‘We can pull this off.’ I saw the clock and knew I wanted the ball and QB sneak and get in there. I have to be better than that — call a time out, regroup and put it in the end zone.”

“It’s very shocking,” Oakland running back Darren McFadden said. “I call him Automatic Seabass, so it’s just one of those things. If he kicked that ball 100 times, he’s going to make 99 of them. It just so happened that he missed that one.”

Janikowski, who left without talking to reporters, missed two other field goals: a 41-yarder and a 58-yarder. Both were wide right. He made kicks from 22, 54 and 23 yards.

    ……..

F’ck no he doesn’t care. If any of these guys cared, they would not have 7 (about to be 8) losing seasons.

    Why should he care?

Will this cost him a job or some money? Cost him anything other than pride? NO

  • ArmChair GM

As far as players go, this loss is on Janakowski, plain and simple. Just like New Orleans loss is on their kicker.

If Gradkowski is to blame then Drew Brees is to blame for New Orleans loss. Brees threw two picks.

So when Brees throws two picks but battles back, and rallies his team to within field goal range and his kicker misses the shot, it the kickers fault…But when Gradkowski does the same thing, he’s a no good backup QB.

Some of you guys are nothing short of mentally challenged.

Despite everything that happened, and all of the mistakes made by both coaches and players, Janikowski lost this game on the field plain and simple.

He gets paid to do one thing, kick. He failed miserably. Cut his fat butt now!

  • jerseyraider

we were able to run the ball with some success today and i wish we had capitalized on it more.

  • http://aldavissucks.blogspot.com/ The Real GradkowskiRaider

When a team is in position to score on the final play of a game, whoever blows it on THAT play, BLEW THE GAME. Period. Football games come down to final moments. It’s the very essence of the game. The best franchises build their teams for the final 3 seconds of games, because so many games will come down to those precious moments. Do you have a receiver that can jump up and grab one in double coverage? Do you have a half back that can dive over 8 defenders? Do you have a QB with a presence of mind to find the best receiver to get the ball to when 8 defenders are rushing at him? Lastly, do you have a field goal kicker WHO CAN MAKE A 30 YARD F’N CHIP SHOT???????!!!!!!!????????/

  • ArmChair GM

Next blame goes to the coaches in my opinion. Cable’s patchwork offensive line stinks like a fat pile of manure.

    Hue Jackson’s play calling sucks!

The special teams coach is garbage. What is he teaching these guys in practice?

  • Norco Bob

I hope Houston wins by 40 next sunday,..they for sure goin on my parlay card,…say the Raiders won today, bfd,…wouldnt change the fact that they will be 4-12 at best,….so now it looks like 3-13,..no big difference,..Im real.

  • Chris in NY

Ball swerves right instead of left and we’re partying right now. What can you do? Horrible outcome to swallow. Guys fought hard all game and Janikowski slices one a half-yard wide and that’s the diff.

At least it was nice to see a reasonably competent offense out there. It’s been years. McFadden was awesome again. I love how Gradkowski is pushing the ball down field and making plays. Keep it up Brucey. The young WRs are really starting to make things happen with BG slinging it.

Aside from Janikowski pretty much single-handedly blowing this one, the o-line continues to be the biggest concern. They did pave the way for another 100+ yard day on the ground, but all too often it was pretty much a jailbreak by the Cards’ d-line and blitzers.

The other problem I had was with Hue’s playcalling in the 3rd quarter. Seemed like we tightened up and got very conservative and thus very predictable with a 3-point lead. We basically wasted that quarter and any chance to put a little distance up on hte scoreboard.

  • priesttj

No doubt Seabass should’ve won it for us, but to blame the entire game on him is to dismiss everything else. Our offense is just not there yet. The special teams helped the Cards stay in a game they may have gotten blown out of. We moved the ball well in the first half but that ST’s TD got them going and their confidence up. It’s extremely hard to win on the road when you start like that.

If we stuff them and score to start they’re probably never in the game. For us to come back and score after that says a ton about this team. But we still have a long way to go to be an elite team obviously. Jano is still way too much of a crutch for our offense. Those who say he sucks and we should cut him are flat out stupid. he’s been one of the better kickers in the game for years. He had a bad day or a bad final kick. Which made the entire day look bad.

We were in the redzone 5 times when your kicking FG’s your chances of winning on the road expecially giving up a ST’s TD are very slim. Our ground game has to get better and better if we want to have a decent season. Without it teams will gameplan Grads and it’ll get ugly. Where did DMC’s speed go? he seems to have lost a couple of steps. He’s not playing as fast as he times.

The defense on the road has been very good which is the best sign of a great defense. If your defense travels well you’ll have many chances to win on the road if you don’t give up cheap TD’s on teams.

There are 31 teams that would cut Janokowski immediately after missing that easy of a FG, then there are the Raiders.

  • UCLA Raiders

Arizona did everything it could to give the Raiders the game. Raiders wouldn’t take it.

    ————————————————————–

Good teams win when the other team keeps begging them to win. Bad teams lose. Looking at another 6-12 year AT BEST.

As for the kicker, I I hate the POS. Wait hate is not strong enough. How about despise. Yeah I despise him. SOB ruined my day & night.

Games like this make or break a season.

Could have been a huge boost to carry them through probable losses the next 2 weeks.

Now, with losses in those games, record will be 1-4 and the season will be done.

At 1-4, players will mail it in, steal money from Al Davis, and stay drunk the rest of the year.

  • Norco Bob

Oh MR,…no need to fret over a fat slob kicker,…you should join me thursday for a Tahoe run…Im goin back ot back on parlay card wins!

  • http://aldavissucks.blogspot.com/ The Real GradkowskiRaider

But I digress. I’ll tend to agree with those who blame Gradkowski and the coaching. I guess you would have to blame them for letting the game get into the hands of a Davis scholarship kicker like Janikowski. I guess you can say that we should blame Grads and the coaches for not scoring enough points to keep the game as far from Jano’s hands as possible. Putting any game into the hands of an Al Davis scholarship player is a loss. That’s one thing we’ve learned through the years as Raider fans. So in that sense, I guess this is on the coaches and Grad. Sort of like how you’d have to blame the owners of a dog for letting a dog get out and start a traffic accident. The dog can’t help itself, just like the Al Davis scholarship kicker can’t help sucking.

Amen. Gut-wrenching loss but at least we got to watch a functioning offense. Something that has been all but extinct the last 7 years.

Love how Gradkowski keeps his eyes down field and isn’t afraid to fit it in a tight window 20+ yards away. If he stays healthy behind this line (tall order) we’ll be a tough out.

Plenty of good teams are 1-2. The story of this season is far from written.

BOTTOM LINE – OFFENSE PUT THEM IN POSITION TO WIN GAME.

  • raiderzmaverick

The Raiders scored a TD in the 1st quarter for the 1st time in 10 games (Week 10 vs Chiefs last season).

In an even more preposterous indication of how insanely bad the Raiders offense has been — the last time the Raiders scored a TD in the 1st quarter of a road game was almost 3 years ago on September 30, 2007.

I’d say that’s an improvement at QB at least.

  • ArmChair GM

Gradkowski plays fearless and with heart.

When he has time, he throws an accurate pass. He knows the o-line and Janikowski laid a rotten egg out there, but he didn’t throw any of his guys under the bus.

He took the blame for the loss himself.

That’s leadership, that’s what you wanna see from your starting QB.

He’s a stand up guy. He deserves to be the starter.

Nothing has changed from what I said before the season even started…

Fix The O-Line, Win The Division!
