Postgame wrap
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, September 26th, 2010 at 8:27 pm in Oakland Raiders.
“I looked up, expected it to split the uprights,” Raiders punter and holder Shane Lechler said Sunday in a hushed locker room. “It sounded good. Everything was good.”
If only.
Everything was not good. Everything, was, in fact awful. The Raiders had a chance to be 2-1 for the first time since 2004, and all they needed was a 32-yard field goal from a place kicker who had made 19 in a row between 30 and 39 yards and was a 90.2 percent kicker in his career in that range.
Instead, Sebastian Janikowski pushed the 32-yard attempt to the left, giving the host Arizona Cardinals a thoroughly undeserved 24-23 win over the Raiders.
It was Janikowski’s third miss of the game, having gone wide right from 41 yards and 58 yards. He also converted from 54 yards (he drilled one from 63 in warmups) and had 22- and 23-yard field goals as part of the Raiders stunningly inept performance in the red zone. Janikowski was long gone from the locker room by the time reporters arrived.
“As I told the team I don’t feel like the game was won or lost on the last play right there,” Raiders coach Tom Cable said at the podium following the game. “It certainly could have been won, but we had a lot of opportunities in the second half to put some exclamation points out there and we couldn’t do it. We have to continue to get better in the red zone offensively and just continue to work. This game will not define us.”
Which is essentially what Cable said after the Week 1 loss to Tennessee. What has defined the Raiders is the inability to win consecutive games. It’s happened only once on Cable’s watch, in the last two games of the 2008 season against Houston and Tampa Bay.
How beatable was Arizona?
They managed only 227 yards of total offense with a shaky quarterback in Derek Anderson and a passing game which isn’t even a faint copy of what it was with Kurt Warner. Their coaching staff, oblivious to the fact that the the Raiders were susceptible to the run, probably could have controlled the game merely by hammering the middle if they weren’t so busy trying to prove the could still pass in the post-Warner era.
Twice Cardinals punt returners let live balls bounce free as gifts to the Raiders. Domique Rodgers-Cromartie rode the arm of Darrius Heyward-Bey and was justifiably called for a 39-yard pass interference penalty when Arizona appeared to have the game won.
There were mistakes aplenty for both sides, but what stood out for the Raiders was their 1-for-5 red zone performance while Anderson, even in his sub-mediocre state, managed to throw a 2-yard touchdown pass to Steve Breaston and an 8-yarder to Larry Fitzgerald, both of whom were so open you wonder if Hue Jackson was taking notes on how easy it can be to throw a short touchdown pass.
More news, notes, quotes and observations:
– Three games in, the Raiders have 33 penalties for 290 yards. That’s 176 penalties for 1,547 yards by the end of the season. It may seem an unfair projection, given the short sample size, but the Raiders do seem pretty determined to draw as many flags as possible. They had 11 for 123 yards Sunday. They’re going backwards for almost as many yards as Darren McFadden is going forward.
McFadden had 105 yards on 25 carries against Arizona, so he’s getting plenty of work from scrimmage. Jackson may want to begin encorporating McFadden on swings and screens a little more, given the pressure opponents are getting.
– With a first-and-goal at the 1, the Raiders couldn’t manage to punch in a touchdown. Michael Bush, in his first game back after fracturing his left thumb and undergoing surgery, was stopped for no gain. Then came a Keystone Cops sequence where Bruce Gradkowski let the clock run down, felt he could get a play off, and ended up taking a delay of game penalty. Then came a pair of incomplete attempts to Heyward-Bey and Janikowski’s 23-yard field goal.
The Cardinals called this a goal line stand. Gradkowski called it his mistake.
“I take responsibility for that,” Gradkowski said. “I probably should have called a time out, but it’s just my competitiveness. I thought we can get this off. I saw the clock and I just knew I wanted the ball. I wanted to quarterback sneak. I wanted to get in there. I’ve just got to be better than that, call a time out, regroup and put it in the end zone.”
– Bush said his thumb held up fine and that he’s planning on taking the pad off next week. He got blown up once by Adrian Wilson while pass blocking.
“I’ve got to get under him,” Bush said. “He knocked me down because I didn’t have my feet gathered correctly. It was good to get back in and get banged up a little bit.”
– Gradkowski is determined to make Heyward-Bey a star. He threw to him 11 times, completing three for 49 yards. One was a clutch fourth-and-10 completion that gave the Raiders a first down on the ill-fated final drive.
“Darrius did a great job, and the offensive line made it happen,” Gradkowski said.
Gradkowski was 17-for-34 for 255 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception. He played on the edge and was fortunate not to have made more mistakes.
– Cable on Gradkowski: “I thought (his play was) inconsistent, up and down. His leadership was great. When he needed to make a play, it seemed like on third down he was pretty sharp that way. But again I think he would be the first to tell you that we had four or five opportunities in the red zone and only scored one touchdown.”
Radio play-by-play man Greg Papa was openly wondering in his postgame wrapup if Jason Campbell was an option to start against Houston.
– The offensive line spent much of the day being overwhelmed. Langston Walker was in and out with injuries and the left tackle rotation of Jared Veldheer and Mario Henderson did nothing to distinguish itself.
– Nice opening act. Second-year running back LaRod Stephens-Howling (this game set the standard for hyphenated last names) raced 102 yards for a touchdown with Mike Mitchell blowing the solo tackle and Michael Bennett also failing to bring him down.
– Nnamdi Asomugha got his wish to shadow Fitzgerald and gave up one completion for 18 yards and got called for pass interference once. Anderson went to Fitzgerald six times for the one completion, with the touchdown coming in zone coverage.
“With an elite guy like Larry, you know it’s going to be a great work day,” Asomugha said. “To me, it wasn’t good enough because he did get the catch. That’s what upset me.”
– Even with the previous missed field goals, the prevailing opinion seemed that Janikowski couldn’t miss from 32 yards. The Raiders even acted the part as the ball was sailing through the air.
“Once he kicked it, we celebrated on the sideline,” Asomugha said. “But then I saw them getting happy and our guys on the field not getting happy. That’s when I looked back and saw we didn’t get it.”
“It’s very shocking. I call him `Automatic Seabass’ because it’s one of those things if you kick the ball 100 times, he’s giong to make 99 of them,” McFadden said. “It just so happened he missed that one.”
Said Bush: “The field goal wasn’t the killer. We had opportunities on the goal line to score. We just have to go back and watch film and correct the things we can.”
– Cornerback Walter McFadden didn’t make it through the game, aggravating his hamstring strain. McFadden was on the field because Chris Johnson (ankle) was inactive.

Papa’s credibility has plummeted with me. Unbelievable. Hope he gets that raise for hosting those ungodly boring Raider t.v. shows.

You’re making this way too complicated it’s very simple, you take a quick look if it’s there you take it if not you throw it away. How many times do I need to say it? I think ZMiller would’ve been a great option down there they blitz he releases and if he’s pen throw it in 1.5 seconds if he catches it it’s a TD game over!! Why is this so complicate to you??
If they blitz it’s perfect!!
September 26th, 2010 at 8:41 pm
MR,..old buddy,…dont let these losses get to you,…they goin 3-13 now instead of 4-12,..so dont trip.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:41 pm
RDT, didn’t the Raiders explain their use of a first round pick on Jano by saying that he would be a sure thing in the types of close games that we’d lost in prior seasons?

I need somee purple drank to relieve the pain.

Bruce was up and down, but on balance, he did enough for us to win. I just can’t imagine that JCampbell would have had the calmness to stand in the pocket and make those throws to Miller and Bey on the final drive.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:42 pm
The Raiders lost because Al Davis overrode the coaching staff’s decision to waive Mike Mitchell.

September 26th, 2010 at 8:42 pm
Why can’t this team all show up on the same day?
Why is it that this team cannot count on Veterans to execute in critical situations?
Why are penalties accepted on this team?
What are you teaching these players? Why can’t they make smart decisions on the field?
Why is there no accountability for lack of production at any other position except QB and HC?
When will the media start asking these questions?
September 26th, 2010 at 8:43 pm
I hope Jason Campbell does start sunday,…would make sense,..Oakland sense anyway.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:44 pm
I’ve been saying that we should cut him and trade Lechler. then sign Swayze Waters in order to gain cap-space, and recover a roster spot since Pre-season.
I’ve never backed Janokowski as a pressure-player.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:44 pm
that a hole jano has blown more games than he has won for us. LAME ARSSSSS

September 26th, 2010 at 8:45 pm
Base on how Campbell played in the first two games, he would have been sacked five times and fumbled at least three of them away. We’re not having any of these discussions if Jano makes the kick.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:46 pm
Has Henderson been cut yet?
September 26th, 2010 at 8:46 pm
a living AD means a dead team.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:46 pm
Janokowski is a side-show freak who kicks knuckle-balls, and like a knuckle-ball pitcher is about 50/50 over time.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:46 pm
Grakdowski throws for 255 yards.
McFadden runs for over 100.
Louis Murphy has 100 yards.
I guess we have to get Grad up to about 350,
McFadden to 200,
and Murphy or another receiver to 200 yards in order to prevent Janiskowski from pissing it all away.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:47 pm
Lets just move on to the next one guys,if we don’t do anything this year at least win all home games, texans coming to the black hole=win.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:47 pm
At least with Campbell you guys wouldnt get all torn up over last minute choke jobs,..game would be over in 2nd quarter and you could all just relax.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:48 pm
Extremely disappointing. Even though when it comes down to it we lost because the polish sausage couldn’t cut it, it isn’t entirely his fault. We could have won this game by scoring on one of those tries when we were at the 1 yd line of AZ. We had 6 tries, and couldn’t get a yd. That is what bothers me the most.
I do think most of the fault falls on Jano tough. If he would have made just one of those 3 fgs he missed we could have won as well. I would say it is 80% his fault, 20% the rest of the offense.
Now there’s a good chance of us being 1-4 by the time we play SF.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:49 pm
i swear the refs were trying to give it to us and cant even win with their help. PATHETIC

September 26th, 2010 at 8:56 pm
Priest,
All that I’m trying to tell you is that you don’t try and complete a 20 yard pass against pressure defense when your kicker is over 90% from the distance. Too many things can go wrong. Especially with our garbage O line. Only an idiot would make that decision. Cable made the right decision. Jano missed it. And the only reason anyone is questioning anything is because he missed it. You put your team in a position to win. Risking an int, fumble, sack, penalty is ridiculous when all your kicker has to do is make a lay up.
September 26th, 2010 at 8:58 pm
I hope Houston wins by 50…that way the staff gets cleaned out then instead of at the bye,…why wait?
September 26th, 2010 at 8:58 pm

They can game plan Grads and that is Hue’s job to play chess versus their defensive coordinator and do things on offense that the Texans defense will not expect!
It’s not hard to game plan versus the Raiders cause the O-Line is below average overall.
September 26th, 2010 at 9:00 pm

September 26th, 2010 at 9:02 pm
Bob, the only person that will get cleaned out is Cable. And then we’ll have Jackson. And the more I see of him, the less I like him. Just a chearleader. Didn’t he go from being an OC to a quarterbacks coach before Al made him an OC again? The guy who should get fired immediately is John Fassel, but since he is Jim Fassel’s son, that won’t happen.
September 26th, 2010 at 9:02 pm
The only silver lining is that San Diego 7 Denver also lost.
Kansas City all alone in 1st place by at least two games over everyone of us.
September 26th, 2010 at 9:03 pm
What I do like is we dominated the Cards on the road eventhough we lost. Dominated the Rams at home close win. This team is getting it together I think this was a hiccup more than anything else. But how we play vs the Texans will tell us a lot. If we win to get to 2-2 I think we beat SD to go 3-2.

If JC starts next game … this team is dead. When was the last time the Raiders scored 20 points in the first half. There is no way the Raiders should have lost … now they have to win a big one to make up for this poor performance or should I say unlucky break.
September 26th, 2010 at 9:09 pm
Raiders were solid on the defensive line again, LBs were solid, DBs… how many PIs did they have?
Special Teams cost us that game, even though they came up with two fumble recoveries, they accounted for 7 pts for the Cardinals and cost us 6-9 points in FGs.
Once again penalties by the offense at the most inopportune time, Mario’s holding penalty after the big play, Bruce’s delay of game (just give the ball to Bush, he was in next time you knew he was going to make, you knew he would have, raiders probably would have committed a penalty though and it would have been called back).
the ultimate reason we lost was…

B that’s what I’m talking about and 2 out of the 3 are road games. That speaks volumns. This defense travels well. That is a sure mark of a good team. Now the next thing is to get the running game to do the same thing. If we can run on the road this team will turn around in a hurry. We gave them confidence with that quick 7 to start the game. If we don’t give that up we probably win by at least 10.
September 26th, 2010 at 9:14 pm
3 wins in a row with JC right? If he goes in I think we might be lucky to win 1 of those 3. I say stick with Grads, roll the dice, and let him play until he either shows he can’t do it or gets hurt.
Like many have said here, he might not be the perfect QB or the long term answer, but he is the best choice right now.

Winning back-back games seems to be the big hurdle. Win next week against Houston (doable) and then the next game at home against SD probably sets the stage for the rest of the season: a real shot at winning the West or another 5-11 season.

Don’t tell me Jano Crap Ski is a pressure kicker cuz he hit ONE game winner against the Jets a few yrs. ago. That kick was a 60 + yarder that no one would’ve given him flak for missing, meaning-NO PRESSURE. He is a POS when under true pressure.
I give him credit for having the raw ability to kick one that far, but as someone above noted, he’s nothing more than a sideshow freak. Real NFL pressure? LOL, he’s a pathetic joke.

Come on man!! I’m in no way blaming Grads for anything at all. I’m just saying I can see his flaws and I know a good DC with a decent defense can take advantage of thse flaws. Now if HE gets better and better that is a moot point. But will he in time.
September 26th, 2010 at 9:19 pm
Priest,to be honest,I put most of the blame on Mario Henderson. The guy gets key penlties at the wrong times and gets blown up too often. The play I think cost us the game was in the 4th,we were driving, eating clock,DMAC is getting yards. We have a 3rd and 1 and the stupid one gets a false start making it 3rd and 6.The drive stalled. That,to me,was the game killer.

So let’s try to look at some positives, because this is getting depressing.
McFadden got his 2nd game in a row with over 100yds, a TD and did it with less than 30 carries.
Another solid performance by Murphy. I’m telling you all, I think he will be our next Tim Brown.
DHB had another good performance as well.
Defense did pretty good. In my opinion. Aside from the PIs of course.
Stevie Brown had another good hit on Special teams.
And Grad played good enough to assure another start next week. I just hope he doesn’t get killed by Mario next week, yes, both of them. One by failing to protect him and the other by being the hitman.
If we would have won I think next week’s game would have been a sell out, now I think Oakland is looking at another black out.

I don’t know, bro. No NFL team runs more than passing these days and if you factor in the few carries by others it was almost a 50-50 split.
Gradkowski yards per pass attempt: 7.5

B listen it’s not about winning all 3 of those games what we want out of this season is a change in the culture. This season IMO is for the Raiders to understand how to win game swhen they have the chance today if not for a missed FG they did that. They competed until the game was OVER!!
That is a change in recent years. We have a defense that travels well and a running game that is taking shape. I know that doe snothing for us right now today. But as the year wears on you’ll see what I mean. This season we are a very different team there is no denying that.
Give it time to finish the process, if that FG goes through we are 2-1 simple as that and you’re as cocky as hell. Don’t let a missed FG change you that much loook at the constants. The dfense the running game and a QB who will make us competitive. That makes every game winnable.

I wouldn’t even say he was inaccurate. He’s pushing the ball downfield making more difficult, lower percentage passes with a higher payoff when they’re complete. Yards per attempt is a better stat than praising 60% completion pct vs. 50%.
And even the pick was a catchable ball.
It will be nice to get Schilens back as a big red zone target who isn’t afraid to go across the middle and catches the ball well with his hands away from his body. DHB is improved but still needs the ball right in his chest.

I agree with you. Al Davis gives the offense to Hue. Cable has no control on that end. The only thing Cable has control on is making game decisions. Today Hue was awful in play calling. Dmac was very effective but I didnt see us exploiting that area in terms of playaction misdirection, and screens. 2 weeks in a rown now we try to do the pass back to the QB thing. It is as if Hue is trying to prove it works.
The one time he called a busted screen was on a 3rd down in the final drive. I almost destroyed my tv with that play. Our Oline cannot protect and yet we kept going back there trying to air it out.

Saints will bring in kickers
Posted by Michael David Smith on September 26, 2010 7:39 PM ET
Saints kicker Garrett Hartley missed a 29-yard field goal in overtime today, setting up the Falcons on their game-winning drive.
It could have been his last kick as a Saint.
Peter King of NBC’s Football Night in America reports that the Saints will bring in kickers for tryouts this week. That doesn’t necessarily mean Hartley is gone, but it certainly means Hartley is on the hot seat.
Within a week of being named NFC special teams player of the week for his performance on Monday night against the 49ers, Hartley could be out of work.

Agreed. This team has improved big time on both sides of the ball. For being on the road in a loud stadium, I even thought the OL played pretty well. Look at the time Grads had on the big pass plays on the last drive. I don’t see any reason why this team can’t compete against anybody. Grads scares me though. DBs won’t keep dropping those picks forever.

B, I’ll say this the Texans O is one of the best we’ll see all year long. But if we can slow that running game down and put Nnamdi on AJ we can compete here. Peple laughed when we beat the Rams well look what they did today. I’m not saying we can shut them down but if we can get hits on their QB we can win this game. But we have to play well on offense. The Texans D is horrible they give up a ton of yards. They’re all offense so if we can slow them down and hold the ball this game is very winnable.

If Jamarcus Campbell was our QB today, we would have lost by 2 touchdowns.

at 1-3 we start to spiral downward but with a win next week 2-2 puts us back in the hunt .
September 26th, 2010 at 10:06 pm
I’m just looking at general stats man. I’m not a doing an in depth stat search. Though I will say this, on NFL.com which is what I’m looking at, HOU is averaging 25.7 p/g, and OAK is averaging 17.3. So technically they will outscore us by at least 7-8 points. Probably closer to 10 in real life come Sunday. I’m just hoping they do a face plant like they did today and we pull an upset.
Not that that’s what it will take for us to win, a complete meltdown by Houston, but it would sure help.
What I am hoping for is that somehow we come out and play a complete game on all sides of the ball and actually beat the Texans through our own skill and not because they messed up.

Campbell could not have made the plays Bruce did under fire. Half of the Cardinals defense was in his face all game.
Believe me, there would have been about four turnovers and 3 and outs aplenty.
With our line, we can’t have a indecisive, slow reacting QB. That’s where the Jamarcus Campbell gloss comes from.

The thing I see is that KC is winning by hook and crook, it’s fools gold for sure. They’re trying everything just to catch teams off guard it’s not solid football. Can they go on he road and get a tough win? Denver sucks and SD is in a downward spiral. Things will level out by midseason. If we can get better each week which IMO we are the Raiders will have a chance to win this division by the end of the year.
IMO we are probably the most solid team in the division right now we just had a bad miscue which makes it look worse than it is.

He doesn’t move well in the pocket or improvise.
If he had a good line i’m sure he could tear it up, but…..we don’t.
BTW expect to see Gallery at LG and Loper at RG next week. Carlisle is hearby demoted.

Well some positive stuff to think about rather than this misery.
After 3 weeks, Murphy has 15 catches, DHB 10 and CrapDiva 6. I thought last year that Murphy will eventually be the better receiver of the 3 and he is proving to be the best receiver in his rookie class. The man can flat out play. Currently ranked 12th overall in yds production and on a very poor passing team to go along the way.

On one last note. After seeing the stats, it is for sure that this team is miles ahead of last years team. So if you are looking for improvement, you got it. The numbers don’t lie. But big areas of concern would be the redzone % and the Oline.
It is still coming together, and hopefully by the bye we will be at least 4-5 or better.
I am still hoping for a 8-8 season, and it is true that the team has been improving week to week. But it is also true that while some areas improve, others regress or stay the same. We need to pull it all together and have a complete game for once. And in order to beat Houston, I think that is what we will need to do.
Get it together Raiders. The talent is there, you just need to collectively get your heads out of your you know what.
GO RAIDERS!
September 26th, 2010 at 10:31 pm
Both Carlisle and Satele can’t handle the power guys.
Walker and Mario/V can’t handle the speed rushers.
The only position that we can count on is Gallery/Loper.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Bauce,
Campbell could not have made the plays Bruce did under fire. Half of the Cardinals defense was in his face all game.
Believe me, there would have been about four turnovers and 3 and outs aplenty.
With our line, we can’t have a indecisive, slow reacting QB. That’s where the Jamarcus Campbell gloss comes from.
******************************
Bruh dont mention that fawkin name on this blog……you talking about one guy who never wanted to be in Oakland versus one that does, one that doesnt work hard and one that does, one that loves his teammates and the other doesnt…..dont worry how much you wanna bet JC starts by november?

Hey man, JR was damn good in those situations. He got us touchdowns against SD, KC and Denver last year in the last two minutes. And that’s with a team that wasn’t half as good as the team Grads had today. I would’ve been supremely confident with him in there.
September 26th, 2010 at 10:43 pm

———————
If the kicker makes a 32-yard FG Bruce is 4-1 in his last 5 starts dating back to last year.
Gradkowski is averaging 2.5 more yards per pass attempt than Campbell.
Campbell has more turnovers.
Campbell’s Redskins finished with a worse record than JaMarcus’ Raiders last year.
And, most tellingly …
Under Gradkowski the offense is averaging 24.5 ppg. Under Campbell it’s averaging 9.5 ppg.
Sorry bro, but anyone advocating a return to Campbell has their head in the sand.

Not having Brian schneider as Special Teams coach is hurting us. We rocked the house when he was here 2 years ago.
I think letting him go was a political move to move up Fassel’s son… I believe Al was considering Fassell at that point and then had more leverage with his son on the team.
Can’t think of any other reason to let Schneider go.
As pointed out above, the Seattle Team he is coaching Special Teams on now ran back 2 for Touch Downs in the win and didn’t allow any big run backs against them.
September 26th, 2010 at 11:14 pm
Me, I’m the Lonesome Kicker
Extra points, field goals at your service
One might think it comes with glory
You might think different after you listen to my story
My helmet is equipped with a tiny face mask
What it possibly could protect, I do not know
The other guys on the team
Like to make fun of my little shoulder pads
And also like to hide the special shoe
I need to kick in the snow
People think it’s so easy
To kick a field goal from the 30 yard line
They forget to add seven yards for the snap
And 10 more ’cause the goal posts are pushed way back
In 1974, the uprights were right on the goal line
But some of the players were running into them
And getting hurt
So screw the kicker
Who cares about the kicker?
But I kick that ball
And I pray it goes straight
If it does
The coach says “Good job, number 8″
He doesn’t even know my name is
Andre Kristacovitchlalinski, Jr.
But that’s the life I live
The Lonesome Kicker
Kickoffs can be so very scary
Especially, if the returner breaks on through
And I’m the only guy on the playing field left to tackle him
I don’t want to get hurt
So I pretend to tie my shoe
Once again, I’m ignored by my teammates and all my coaches
“Go back where you came from!”
Scream 70,000 fans
Well, I know I could win their love back
By catching a winning touch-down
But, unfortunately, I was born with these very small hands
And I hope that the cameras don’t come in too close
‘Cause they might see the tears in my eyes
As I sit on this bench made of cold-hearted wood
And the splinters go deep in my thighs
And the towel boy snickers as he walks by
The Lonesome Kicker
Another blocked kick
And everybody blames me
But it was the Left Guard
Who didn’t pick up his man
Oh, why can’t they see…
In my home country
I could have been a minor league soccer player
But I came to America
Seeking fortune and seeking fame
I didn’t realize that if I shanked one
And blew the point spread
Some drunk guys would push me into their hibachi
After the game
So I go home at night
‘Cause I never get invited
To go drinking with the other guys
And I sit in my chair, and I soak my foot
As I eat a plate of cold french fries
And my wife’s out with her quote-unquote friend
And my son can’t look me in the eyes
But that’s the life I live
The Lonesome Kicker
Kicking for you
They took my snow shoe
They’re going for two

Priest, the guy came back in shape. He was getting positive reviews from his teammates. Every young qb in this league struggles. And none had to go through the growing pains of two rookie wide receivers. We never should have traded for Campbell. JR should have gotten one more chance here with Hue and the other improvements to the team. I’ll be very happy when when he reappears, but pissed at the same time that we gave up so soon.

Fassell does not have his guys ready to play on Sunday.
The only guy consistently earning his paycheck is Lechler. In fact he is a beast! His punting style and ability got us two turnovers and we couldn’t do squat with em.
But apart from Lechler, what is Fassell doing with these guys at practice, watching porn? Everything about our special teams sucks besides Lechler.

September 26th, 2010 at 11:27 pm
Hue Jackson talked all that game before the season about using Mcfadden and having plays to utilize his talent.
Well Mcfadden is averaging 115-120 yds a game, and instead of utilizing your biggest weapon in the red zone, Hue Jackson is doing some ole other BULL SCHYT!
We have NO O-LINE but Jackson has Bruce trying to throw the ball all over the field like he’s Drew Brees. Those near picks that Grads threw were him trying to sustain drives and not get sacked for losses.
That guy is playing his heart out out there but the play calling by Hue Jackson is laughable and clueless and that’s giving him more credit than he deserves.

Agreed. Everybody would be happy if we connected on a couple of those passes called in the redzone. The plays were there to be made. Too be honest with you, I didn’t really have a problem with the playcalling last year except for the sweep out of the endzone against Houston. It’s all about the execution.

Please, my head is not in the sand and not up Grads azz either, but if you think that Gradkowski is the answer then this team is in real chit. All I am saying is he has looked mediocre at best and in my opinion deserves a shot leash just like Campbell did. Let us not forget it is Grads who has been in this system and he still looked like chit. if it was not for Dmac we would not even have been in the game, and if he would of gotten a few more passes we might of won going away.

No Lefty the Coaches did not have us in a position to win. AZ was handing the game over to us left and right.
WE did not capitalize in the red zone and that is ultimately on the coaching because of the play calling and the personnel that they keep putting out on the field.
September 26th, 2010 at 11:31 pm
Even if we had won this game I still would have seen serious deficiencies with the play calling and roster decisions.

September 26th, 2010 at 11:37 pm
Now I saved Tom Cable for last because I’m pretty much through with this guy. He is a complete idiot in my opinion. We can’t win the Big One with this guy.
He preaches accountability and yanks Campbell off the field after a quarter and a half, but lets mediocrity at other positions run wild.
Mario Henderson has been sucking for about 3 years now and does the same dumb stuff week after week. Veldheer is a rookie and not ready to be the Man at the LT or C position right now.
Carlisle has been sucking for 2 years now yet Cable continues to start this fool.
Janikowski has been getting a free pass too. Yeah the Saints kicker missed a couple, and guess what???? New Orleans is bringing in a possible replacement for his ass too.
If Cable held all of the players accountable the way he did J Campbell we would have a much better product on the field right now.
Cable is all talk and no action.
He’s got to go. He’s not a champion.

It’s good Lefty, we both have our opinions. That’s fine.
But when you keep seeing the same piss poor performances by the same usual suspects on the field then it’s up to the coaches to make changes.
Janikowski has been inconsistent this entire season so far. So it’s up to the coaches to make the necessary adjustments either on and off the field.
Not running the ball more, is on the coaches. Not fixing that o-line and special teams play that has sucked since the preseason, that’s on the coaches.
I don’t know how that’s not obvious to see.

Armcair I totally disagree Cable has benched countless high priced players. What do you want him to do bench the emtire team? Kickers miss FG’s it’s a fact of life. Deal with it!! We should’ve won this game outright. Who else do we have right now that is a sure solution to the LT problems?? NO ONE… he can’t just shuffle in player after player. Someone has to step up and do the job. Or wait until we get someone who can. If these others guy’s were better they would be in there. They see them practice everyday they know. It’s unfortunate the mistakes but that’s life. We have to get better at certain positions but musical chairs AINT the answer.

September 26th, 2010 at 11:57 pm

Priest,
Al Davis has given his coaches more freedom and autonomy than we have seen in a loooong time. Anyone that can’t see that Al Davis is backing off more and letting his coaches male decisions is blind.
But with that freedom comes BIG responsibility like the saying goes.
Cable has thrown his support behind this weak o-line and so Davis has gone along with that because that is SUPPOSED to be Cable’s specialty.
The play at Center, LT and RG has been absolutely laughable, but yet every time Cable is asked about it he keeps saying the same ole tired schyt.
You can’t tell me that Bruce Campbell wouldn’t play at least as good as Crapper Carlisle. But Cable hasn’t even given the guy a chance.
Mario Henderson should be cut. Hartwig is out there. Bring him in. Make a trade for some LT help.
Davis is going along with his coaches and they keep laying turds week after week.
That’s what I’m saying. It’s not just about the kicker. It’s about the same players doing the same dumb stuff week after week and Cable giving the same tired excuses week after week.

Cable putting Bruce at RG shows me he isn’t that thrilled with CC.It also speaks volumes that CC is still starting.
September 27th, 2010 at 12:21 am
hue jackman sucks. ill call him hue jackson when he stops callin games like the actor. he and jano lost this game for us. this dude is arroagant and full of himself. he walks around trash talkin to the d and the o and then bullsh!ts come gametime. i said it last week and opening day. the offense should revolve around dmc. he shouldve had about 7 receptions today. there were several openings underneath for him to exploit and we couldve used him split wide . we dont let the man finish drives off in the redzone with tds like all the great backs do. shotgun 3 times at the 5? even the td he got came at the worst time with no to’s left. dmc saved his azz. lefty was right about this dude.
September 27th, 2010 at 12:22 am
Everyone says put Barnes at -pick the position.Did you happen to notice how he got worked when he went in for Walker?
September 27th, 2010 at 12:25 am
Armond-I had my wife laughing like hell when we were at the 5 and didn’t try to run it in.That sequence really pissed me off.
September 27th, 2010 at 12:28 am
hue jackman also calls out jcampbell which i didnt like. this man has bg throwin the ball around like he is manning. he REFUSES to accept that this team must run 1rst and let the passing game develope at its own pace. they are trying to make grads somethin he isnt and this will blow up in our face in a hurry. he would rather do that dmc throw to the qb sh!t than use the wildcat with dmc. we dont even use jlh as a 3rd option and what happened to the screen game? 2nd and short and he refuses to run the ball. his arrogance is beyond belief and i believe HE will hold this team back more than the oline. he does nothing to hide its weaknesses.

the defense is good. i like brian but his negativity can be annoying. hey b when i c u on here we gotta pow wow. the d gave up 227 yards and 17 points. all the whinin about pass d on here from some people need to stop. arizonas o was some sh!tty pi calls and scott getting worked. when shawny plays he is all over the los. scott gets manhandled and unnoticed unless its a sack. he is 1 trick pony. the pass rush is whats disappointing. we need to be quick and sharp angling to the qb. we also have to stop playing zone so close to the endzone. we just dont do it right.

I wouldn’t use the term great. How about just an NFL quality starter, cause Mario Henderson hasn’t shown that he is one yet, after 3 years!
September 27th, 2010 at 12:40 am
I would’ve liked to see a much more compsed game from Grads. He had some opportunities and didn’t capitolize on them. I think he’s still learning and getting better but we screwed up some easy plays in the redzone. He should’ve used more touch on his passes to DHB and ZM. His adrenalin is just pumping and he’s gunning the ball.
Guy’s are upset about the lakc of runs in the redzne but he can audible or check to a run if need be and it’s really up to Grads to involve DMC in the passing game. He has to calm down and see what the defense is presenting and playcall himself yo take advantage of it.
September 27th, 2010 at 12:40 am
we can save the season if we make some roster adjustments. start shawny over scott and have jhendu start with seymour. move seymour around the line more often and send groves to the qb more. offense needs chaz back and get jlh invloved more. pick 1 GOT DAMN LT
AND STICK WITH HIM. move loper to rg when gallery gets back and start prepping bruce camp for lt and v for rg/rt. start workin barnes as either the lt or rt to get up to game speed. understand the o is dmc and play every1 off of that. playcation when we run with success more often and make zmiller your top redzone option until the other wrs prove they can be better. can we get a dhb reverse?
September 27th, 2010 at 12:41 am
Run DMAC 25-30 times a game and we win!!! fuk relying on either of our QB!
September 27th, 2010 at 12:42 am
I agree with your last comment, Priest. Grads looked frazzled on that 1st and goal series. Really disappointing.
September 27th, 2010 at 12:44 am
It will be a tall task, but something tells me we MUST beat Houston to have any chance of a .500 season. 1-3 starts are a death sentence for a team trying to shake its losing ways.
September 27th, 2010 at 12:44 am
He just scares me when he throws the ball up for grabs when rushed and that is exactly what I mean when I say they will Gameplan him. DC’s will start getting guy’s in his face forcing him to throw downfield and they see he will throw it up and pray. It’s going to get him benched if he doesn’t start throwing them away.

lefty my neighbors thought a bomb went off during this game. i was screamin my azz off.mike irvin said somethin on the mornin show that is right. dallas tries to involve too many people in their game plan instead of just getting it to the main guys. and thats what is wrong with us. like he said pick 1 rb 1 wr and te and everyone else gets the scraps. bush should not have gotten the ball on that dive when dmc was in a groove.pick 1 guy to be the guy and the other guys will fall in line.
September 27th, 2010 at 12:52 am
priest u r right about grads audibling to dmc which HE DID NOT. he also was responsible for the delay at the 1. even admitted he knew he was runnin late but felt he could get it in anyway. he said wanted to sneak it so bad. tryin to be the hero was stupid but notice how none of his groupies are sayin that. campbells slides 2 yards short and is stupid. overthrows wrs in traffic and is stupid. isnt grads stupid for just heavin the ball up in traffic like he did? oh but i guess im goin to the race card huh? wheres aig to point out black folk defendin they own like nobodyelse does?
September 27th, 2010 at 12:52 am
I don’t even know why I read these comment’s anymore. I’ve never a bigger pack of whiny skanks. Jano hits the last FG none of you fair-weather fans says crap. The fact is, I can’t remember the last time they put up 24… seriously, I can’t remember!
They need to get better in the red zone- do that and this game is a 45-17 azz-whoopin. If you’re going to change you’re tune every week, go buy some red and gold gear, thats how those punks across the bay roll. I’m born and raised Oakland. My team may suck but at least I call it down the line every week. I’ll take a last minute FG over what happened week 1 any day.
September 27th, 2010 at 12:53 am
There were several times that I think if he checks it down it will help him a lot. DMC is in the flat and he doesn’t even look at him. He cannot do that and be efficient, He put more pressure on himself than they did.
September 27th, 2010 at 12:53 am

September 27th, 2010 at 12:59 am
Armond it’s all about likes and dislikes. they dislike JC because of Russell. JC has nothing to do with that he has to get better timing with these players and when he does you’ll see a much better player.
September 27th, 2010 at 1:01 am
Big difference Armond is Grad admitted he made a mistake and even took the blame for the loss.It was stupid but he did a lot of good things so that is why I overlook it.As far as the race card,I can’t remember you ever playing it,but there are others who do it regularly-both black and white.
September 27th, 2010 at 1:12 am
I’ll say this he has to play better next week for us to win because if what I saw is what teams will do to Grads he has to play under control and take what they give him and not force so many throws. He was very lucky on some passes. It happens when they get in his face he just slings it anyway.
He wasn’t to blame for the loss at all but he well could’ve been. He needs to be more careful and judicious with the football.
September 27th, 2010 at 1:17 am
I agree he has to be more careful but at the same time I like the way he isn’t afraid to get the ball to his WRs.It’s a fine line, and it wouldn’t hurt him to check down now and then-as long as it doesn’t happen too quickly.
September 27th, 2010 at 1:20 am
Priest,as you pointed out,he is still learning. As long as he continues to get better and put points on the board we should as a team continue to improve also.
September 27th, 2010 at 1:21 am
Yeah that’s what I’m talking about he has a ton of guts he aint bashful. But that has to be kept in check when you’re in the redzone especially. DHB had his man beat easy a touch pass would’ve scored. The same is true early in the game to ZM and Hujack told him so. But hey! right now we need him to show JC what’s out there. So if we need him later and can play more fluidly.
September 27th, 2010 at 1:23 am

Don’t forget, Grad also threw the ball with a 20% trajectory when he could have thrown it at 21%, and on one play he didn’t pivot his back ankle precisely 22 feet from the snap. I don’t think he’s the long term answer.

Report from Glendale
Tailgating at 107 deg is sitting in your running car with ac an ice chest. Club level had 7 people in line compared hundreds at the lower level. The ratio of raiders fans was 45% to the very accomendating arizona fans, who just keep quiet and avoided the alpha dog fans in control of their haven. Our db’s shut down the pass that our dline got lazy in the 2nd half, they had 0 passing first qt. The Cards try to hand the game to us with punt fumbles, Dhb made Gradowski look bad by slowing down his routes or not being in where he should be, at least 6 mistakes. We took over the stadium in the end(last drive)until the miss by janikowski put everyone shock. Cardinal fans only ran their mouth when they had an escape route on the road in vehicle. Raiders fans knew we dominated and went home knowing we are the most dedicated and loyal fans period.

“The offensive line spent most of the day being overwhelmed”.
That line is chaotic.
The whole rotating business makes no sense.
Cable is still working on decisions that should have been made in training camp.
Line were worse in the second half. It seemed like Henderson played more in the second half so he had more time to go for a record in drive-killing penalties.
September 27th, 2010 at 3:42 am
“Gradowski is determined to make Heyward Bey a star.”
Bruce isn’t stupid. He knows how much Al Davis wants DHB to succeed.
And he knows that the QB who does that will be starting.
That said, DHB is doing better with Bruce-especially last week.
September 27th, 2010 at 3:48 am
The offensive line and the play calling was not good in the second half especially.
Going one for five in the red zone is pathetic.
How the hell can you be first and goal on the one yard line and not run it in?!

September 27th, 2010 at 4:53 am
Seabass did screw this one up, but I am surprised that so many of you are ready to throw him under the bus. Bad game – in a lot of places not just Seabass kicking. Too many time we should have won that game even after spotting them 7 points, when Seabass was no where near getting on the field.
And who calls the same play 4 times in a row inside the ten?
September 27th, 2010 at 5:05 am
yesterday is another reason to hate fg kickers. But don’t let Seabass’s failures mask the real issues. Coach Unable has over 2 years to improve things. His OL is a joke and the penalties and game management are a reflection of him. The OL misses assignments constantly and Coach Unable’s supposed expertise has generated no improvements. Its a joke how many false starts occur at important parts of the game. There is a lack of discipline and it wont get better until Unable is gone.
You can blame Grads for throwing into coverage yesterday, but unlike check down campbell, Grads throws the ball downfield and knows with that OL he has to throw it quickly..
In the end, I’m tired of hearing Unable constantly say we need to take the next step and we will make the corrections. My only hope is the Raiders win 6 or 7 games and when Unable gets fired a legit coach takes over. unable is a joke as a human being and as a coach

September 27th, 2010 at 5:12 am
The bottom line is that this is still a not very good football team. We’re starting to see that this is yet another 4-5 wins team. Mostly it’s because of poor coaching. There are positions that need better players: OL and QB are the most obvious. But the talent is good enough to beat the Cards and Rams of the world. Cable and Jackson seem to have no clue how to win games in the league.
September 27th, 2010 at 5:17 am
Coaching and personnel are and have been the biggest issue for this team for 8 years, and no one seems to be able to anything about it in the Raiders organization.

You know what RR I don’t blame the coach, I don’t blame managment. I blame inconsistent play form the players on the field. We still have to many brain farts on this team to be a good team. For example we get DMac going now Seabass takes a break. The week before it was Branch. Not to mention it does hurt that Chaz is on the sideleine but everyone else I say no. I mean you would think Gallery but they have been able to run the ball and I am not a big Gallery fan any how, he is OK.
Our problem is inconsistant play on the field.
September 27th, 2010 at 6:14 am
By the way our QB situation is about the same with Grads or Campbell in the pocket. I think Grads have been more effective because he can scramble mainly to the right side of the field and throw back to an open WR. Campbell is more of a pocket passer but there has not been a pocket in Oakland for the last 10 years.
If we ever became a rythm offense with a “pocket” for a QB to throw Campbell is our starter.
September 27th, 2010 at 6:14 am
I think the defense got robbed a little on 2 of the PI calls. Look at though, 18 penalties in the game and 10 of them were on the secondary (our or theirs).
We HAVE to get the red zone issues fixed. 2nd and 6 and we run the same stupid play to DHB twice in a row?
The team looked much better with Grads running the offense, but he does fly by the seat of his pants. If we turn in that performance next week Houston will beat us by 30.

Im not giving up on Jackson, because I dont see any difference in the play calling from when Cable was running the offense. We certainly arent running anything that resembles the offense in Baltimore. Our 3rd WR made it on the field how many times yesterday? Once? Twice? How many catches? ZERO? We cant win with the offense we are running because we cant score. It is all discipline. We dont have it. The cliche is “we dont know how to win yet” but really… the Raiders have NEVER figured out how NOT to beat themselves!

One of the few bright spots I will take from that game is Nnamdi did a GREAT job on Larry Fitzgerald. 1 catch for 18 yards. (the TD was on someone else in that sh1tty zone we CANT fkn run). We should trade him to NE for our first round pick back… Lord knows we arent going to pay him 19million next year and we certainly could use it.

A little old lady answered a knock at the door one day,
to be confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner.
‘Good morning,’ said the young man. ‘If I could take a couple minutes of your time,
I would like to demonstrate the very latest in high-powered vacuum cleaners…
‘Go away!’ said the old lady. ”I’m broke and haven’t got any money!”
and she proceeded to close the door.
Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and pushed it wide open…
”Don’t be too hasty!” he pleaded. ”Not until you have at least seen my demonstration..”
And with that, he emptied a bucket of horse manure onto her hallway carpet. Then he
said with confidence,”Now, if this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this
horse manure from your carpet Madam, I will personally eat the remainder.”
The old lady was horrified at the mess! She said, ”Wait right here, I’ll get you a fork,
they cut off my electricity this morning.”
September 27th, 2010 at 6:49 am
I am no Cable fan but if you think what happened aginst the Cardinals is a Cable or Hue issue I think you are mistaken. We have had so much change over here in Oakland we are getting the same way we blamed Al for years. Every year we cut a coach now we have adopted the same doctorine. Every loss we blame the coach, have you ever thought it was the players. Just focus on the players man. At this level you should not have to teach a guy on defense how to wrap a man up when you make a tackle. Or teach a lineman to keep his feet square with a defender. Or teach special teams to stay in their freakin lanes. Last year penalties were down under Cable now they are up. It is on the player to not get called on something stupid. To me it is on the coach to run his @$$ in the ground at practice for bone haead plays but in the new NFL that may be aginst the rules who knows.
Seabass kicks three field goals within the 50 yard line in his sleep the last couple of years, who would have thought he would miss three in one game. I guess that is Cable’s fault as well?
Consistant play is what this team lacks but listening to this blog I guess every coach since “Gannon The Great” played is the problem. LMAO!!!

However, he is a Davis loyalist in which you have to be. I like the switch he did making Bruce’s job his to lose! He has instilled attitude in HIS team!!! I guess I am just sick of #75 getting called on penalty after penalty and watching people run past him for a sack!!! I guess, we can’t do much better right now, can we?

The worst part is this feels — in many ways — like the same season as the past seven seasons. Raiders snatch defeat from the hands of victory. They still make the dumbest, most retarded penalties on the planet. They still are not close to having a front-line QB (Them and about 25 other NFL teams).
The thing that is most discouraging is teams like the Steelers (without a QB) and Chiefs find a way to win.
The new Raiders are the new Raiders, just like the old Raiders were the old Raiders.

——————————————————-
Now I must say that I thought they would have incoproated a lot more screens in their game under Hues as the O coordinator. Now they are creating some nice running lanes for DMac.
Just being optimistic maybe they are saving some of their tricks for in conferance play. LMBO!
September 27th, 2010 at 6:59 am
Bruce gets DHB, Murph & Miller involved in the passing game. I like that
McFadden is a beast! I don’t care what you haters say (if there are any left)
Still, way too many penalties. Grads completes about 50 percent of his passes and has as many TD’s as INT’s. I think thats what we can expect from him this entire season (if he stays healthy) and its not good enough to make us a playoff calibur football team, which will cost Cable his job

CJ I DO blame the coach for those things. I manage 12 people in a warehouse and if those guys keep making the same stupid mistakes and I cant “coach” them out of it I either replace them with people who do the job right or I get fired. Cable isnt able to COACH the inconsistancy out of these players. He isnt able to lead them past the stupid game killing mistakes. Do I think it all lays a Cables feet? No, I think the organizational structure and hierarchy being what it is plays a large role in how he runs the team. I dont want Cable to be fired mid-season because no matter what that CAN NOT improve our season. I would like to see us get a real HC that can either coach the stupid out of these guys, or replace ‘em with better players.
September 27th, 2010 at 7:03 am
We have the most unimaginative offense in the NFL.
No MISDIRECTION PLAYS at all.
Plus the coaching staff wanted to waive Mike Mitchell, and Davis said no, and Mitchell is the one who missed the tackle on the 100 yard touchdown run.
No more scholarships!
September 27th, 2010 at 7:07 am
I f I were Cable this week in practice, the only two things I would work on (about 12 hours per day) are red zone offense and “O” line discipline. I’d make all those O line guys pay for Mario’s false start at the 1. That’s why they call it a team. If you make the unit pay for a major screw up, the rest of the guys on the unit (hopefully) will make sure the culprit keeps his head in the game. Red zone offense defines a team, a QB, a season. Find a way to score. It don’t have to be pretty — anybody remember the Holy Roller — just do it.
September 27th, 2010 at 7:08 am
Mitchell is the one who missed the tackle on the 100 yard touchdown run.

sad thing is, Hiram Eugene might have made that play and he actually practiced without limitations on Friday

Here is another show of absolute stupidity by the coaching staff. Waived Pears, signed Brown to play against STL. Monday waived Brown and resigned Pears. Wednesday, resigned Brown to the practice squad. Friday waived Pears AGAIN and resigned Brown AGAIN to play against AZ.
And another, why does everyone on our defense (including Nnamdi) think you can just dive at NFL players and they will go down? WTF wrap somebody up and drive them through the gawdamn ground! Missle Mike is going to end up a quadraplegic before his career is done just diving at people the way he does.

I could not agree more with what you are saying about leadership and being responsible for your crew or team. But the issue I see that Cable has is the players he does have who are “consistant players” outside of Nnamdi either get hurt way to often or decide to make a bone head play when they are usually consistant. If Cable replaced every man who helped contribute to a loss he would not have to much of a team. Now guys like Henderson, Steale, Mitchell I just don’t get how they are still on the team?
Perfect example again is Seabass. How do you miss three field goals in a game is you are him? No injuries what so ever and bam he misses 3!

CJ, yep. I know. Just magnifies the fact that if we had to actually play a real QB (P. Manning, Brees, Brady) we would have no shot. Shows how far we are from having a legitimate NFL contender. My estimate is light years.

I think Campbell just needed more time to get the rythm of the offense down and learn that our o-line really is bull crap and he will have to run for his life like every other QB in the last 10 years and throw on the run.
Grads did just what I thought he would o play on the seat of his pants and make sandlot plays.

“But you see thats why that decision was terrible. You start JC and if he blows and we lose you bring in BG next week and have the coliseum rockin and the team fired up for a big game against Houston”
You start the guy that sucks over the guy that gives you the best chance to win just to verify (after 7 years) that he really does suck so next week, after we get blown out by AZ, we can start Bruce?
LMAO!
Wow.
September 27th, 2010 at 7:49 am
Still think grads is the answer? People will say he gave us a chance to win in the end, i say he gave us lots of chances to lose throughout the game. All of his short comings were on display sunday, inaccurate passing, lack of arm strength, & bone headed decision making! I counted 4 passess this week that should have been picked off! When better teams actually make those picks we are looking at another double digit loss. After 6 quarters of football bruce is who everybody in the nfl thought he was, a hrad working over acheiver, big on heart, short in stature, & even shorter on talent. Time to send him back to the bull pen.
September 27th, 2010 at 7:50 am
If we lose 11 games again but lost everyone by one or two points will you still think we are better???
No, I’m not talking about ‘moral victories.’ I’m talking about some cleaning up.
This is gut check time and I just hope the team is more resiliant than the fans, although I really can’t blame them for their negativity.
Peace.

LMAO!!!! Yes, RR gets it. Grads is good not great. What you see is what you get. That gus a blazing BS is going to cost us big one day.
Please stop that fiery BS! It takes more then a Pennsylvania blue collar coal miner “I got fire in my loins” song to win games.
I think the only reason our WRs like playing for him is because he throws easy passes for them to catch less then 15 yards down the field and they can rely on their speed. But sooner or later you have to perfect your craft and become an effective route runner. They are not going to do that under Grads ad-libbing plays.

it amazes me that so many Raider fans hate Jeff Garcia and love Bruce Gradkowski …
BG is just a less talented, younger version of Jeff Garcia!

Yes Garbagekowski is who we thought he was…still not the answer at QB.

i am not jumping off the bridge or going crazy behind this loss. I didnt watch the game, or listen on the radio. I wasnt even upset… to be honest i laughed, while i watched the disc lose a close one to the sea…

At this point you dont know who gives you the best chance to win. If 2 games is the gauge for an entire season i guess NE will be picking top 10. Your own logic just worked against you.

Any explanation for the delay of game penalty ?
Communication problem ?
Play get in late ?
Why didn’t Cable or Grads call time out ?
Obviously, Jano’s miss cost us the win, but it should never have come down to that.
That delay of game penalty cost us 4 pts and the game.
Bottom line is, whatever the problem was, when the play clock gets to about 7 seconds and it’s obvious the Raids aren’t prepared to get the snap off in time –Cable has to intervene and call time out.
Players are going to phuck up…scrubs like Mario are going to false start at the most inopportune times and get beaten like a drum…kickers will miss chip shot fgs and even extra-points. Difficult to accept, but part of the game.
However, what is totally unacceptable is a head coach’s negligence that results in a delay of game penalty and costs the team 4pts and a win.
Cable, that’s all on you.
Indefensible.
Grounds for termination.
The ice just got a little thinner Tom.

KC is 3-0 and not really that good. They have better coaching.
++++++++++++++++=
I agree they have better coaching, wiess and crennell, however they are a good team.
September 27th, 2010 at 7:54 am
I love how everyone just brushes off KC and Denver like we will dominate them or something….when was the last time we swept a division opponent? KC and Denver always beat us once…you have to factor in the rivalry aspect even if those teams seem to be down (which they don’t seem to be…KC 3-0, Denver hung in there with Indy).
We will be lucky to be 3-6 at the bye. I would not be surprised if we are 2-7.
September 27th, 2010 at 7:57 am
We better win in Denver though! I will be there on Oct 24th!
FOOOOOK THE DONKEYS!
September 27th, 2010 at 7:58 am
The problem with Gradkowski is that he thinks he is Brett Favre, but doesn’t have Favre’s talent or arm. If the Cardinals weren’t so terrible, he would have had 4 ints yesterday. He may provide a spark and have some of the intangibles that Campbell may lack, but he should not be a starting QB. Campbell should start next week so the Raiders can really see what he is made of. If he blows it, go back to Gradkowski or even Boller.

Our ST sucks and both of those teams have dynamic returners. KC has an improving D and the enigma that is/was Bruce Gradkowski is starting to get figured out. If he plays bad against Houston, Cable may as well not make the trip back to Oakland. Heres hoping that all of you Grads fans are right and he gets it together next week and we win a tough one. Me being a raiders fan, is with the group that doesnt think you should bench your starter after 1 1/2 games.
September 27th, 2010 at 8:01 am
Cable must go!!!!!! The o- line continues to look like trash!!! Carlisle was man handled yesterday, when will we see b campbell? Barnes was servicable, veldheer was ok. Why not let our young guys struggle on the job training? Becuase cable knows his time is drawing to a close, his only hope was to make the playoffs. He is playing it to win now, when he should be still building toward the future! Selfish for cable to continue to trot out these losers while our young stud b campbell misses chances at live game action!

Our Timeout Coordinator really let us down in the red zone.
What else does that guy have to do?
September 27th, 2010 at 8:05 am
Wuts up Mistic,
SMH @ Grads being the chosen one….us and others tried to warn these people. He is what he is and thats an average QB with a big heart.
September 27th, 2010 at 8:10 am
Question to all in here:
Why after 1 1/2 games it is OK to bench Campbell, because it is obvious that a QB in a new system should have it together by then and 1 1/2 games is more than enough of a sample size to make a determination??? But after a 1-2 start where we struggled against 2 terrible teams, many here still beleive that this season is not yet lost and that we will right the ship???

when teams have all week to game plan grad, they make him sub ordinary.. his claim to fame is he can improvise.. he doesn’t make the everydown plays well.. and that delay penalty at the goal line is inexcusable..he is better coming off the bench.. and just what every other nfl scout thinks he is ,,,,mediocre at best

Then you don’t even sound like a fan. You don’t care enough to even watch or listen to the game, and you’re not upset about the loss, which means you really don’t care one way or the other which makes you a passive “fan’ at best. Nothing wrong with that. Everyone can be whatever they want to be.
Some are here just to rile up the real fans and some are here just to b.s. or whatever. It’d be nice if people would man up as to who their “team” is, instead of just talking smack about Oakland and acting all superior and what not.
I guess people have their own weird reasons for being here.

AL’S PICKS START TO FINISH
It started with Mitchell blowing the tackle on the opening kickoff three weeks after Al Davis reportedly slapped the Al scholarship on him. In the end it was Al’s 1st round kicker missing his 3rd FG. The Saints are trying out two kickers after their man missed an overtime chip shot. Hartley was a 2009 hero for the Saints but he doesn’t have Al protecting him.
Between Mitchell and Jano you have Mario Henderson. Henderson personaly killed at least 3 drives. Second and 5 inside the 15? NO! Mario holds so it is 1st and 20 that ends up a missed FG. 1st and 10 in the red zone. False start 75, 1st and 15. 1st and 10, Mario whiffs, Grads stripped, yay 2nd and 24 Mario.
Why is Mario an “AL ISSUE”? Barnes-Carlisle-Satele-Loper-Henderson. Mario represents Al’s big investment on the o-line. A 3rd rd pick 3 years ago. Veldeheer and B Campbell (3rd & 4th) may someday be okay but they may be Mario Henderson too. Until Al invests in premium o-line on draft day it’s going to be trouble.
Grads has shown that Al’s skill picks DMAC and DHB can play. Three FGs and they hang 32 pts on Ariz. Cable and Jackson did their jobs. McClain had his best game and Aso was awesome. All these 1st round picks weren’t enough to overcome the scholarship guys though.

Wow, Bob complains soo dam much about the raiders. Why does he waste his time on the raiders blog? What kinnda loser logs on right after a game to talk smack about a team he doesnt even care for? clearly he has no team loyalty and his favorite team are the greenbacks ($$$). I know him only from his posts and this is what i get: He prolly lost so much money from the snowbowl and tuck call that he’s still consumed w raider bashing. If you think they suck so bad go cheer for the 49ers! Otherwise stfu bc I sewar you say the sheit dan dierdof would love to say about the raiders if he wernt on national television. U dam RAIDER HATER. If u are a raider fan, try pulling for them. Otherwise STFU u lame, and go blog chargets, im sure there is a lot less you can complain about w them right??

I feel coach Cable should be just as culpable as Janokowski in a couple of missed field goals.
Cable should be discerned in positioning his offensive team within Janokowski comfort zone everytime they cross the forty yardline. J.Kow does have a big leg but Raiders fans knows ,as should Cable, J.Kow is extremely inaccurate at long distance when the game is on the line. a suggestion would be to always call plays that would most likey secure 3 points, when The Raiders cross the forty yard line.
JLH should not be running back punts or kickoffs. he is a side runner.I hardly see him run up field when he return kicks. The Raiders have better returners on the team and they should use them!!!!!
Gradkowski, Mcfadden, Murphy, Played a hell of a game. Hell, I give props to the Raiders Team this game. The Raiders displayed tenacity throughout the game. Winning the game would have been nice, maybe next time.
September 27th, 2010 at 8:42 am
As bad as we let opportunities slip away, I still think we could have won if they had waited until fourth-down to let Seabass kick the field goal. A few more yards on third-down would have made it a chip shot field goal. This loss hurts. Hopefully, we can rebound.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to watch the game but tried to follow it through the NFL game-center and IMHO I think we owe the defeat to the following:
1).- Missed Opportunities e.g. Field Goal
2).- Too many penalties (unforgivable!)
3).- Bad pass protection
4).- Bad decision making (throwing to DHB too many times) instead of running more or more creative play calling
5).- This D-fense still doesn’t convince me.
