Seabass talks about Blanda and missed FGs

For what it’s worth, Sebastian Janikowski feels worse than you do.

Janikowski wasn’t available during the open locker room period today, but beat writer Steve Corkran caught up with him and found the place kicker feeling low for two reasons _ his three missed field goals against the Arizona Cardinals and the the death of former Raiders legend George Blanda.

In warmups, Janikowski said he had the best series of kicks he’s ever had. “Crazy good,” as he called it. Then came the lowest point of his career since missing three times against Tennessee in 2001 when the Raiders were trying to sew up home field throughout the playoffs.

Here is the link to the notebook with Janikowski’s thoughts.

Blanda made it a point to seek out Janikowski and punter Shane Lechler whenever he was around, which was usually at least once per year. Janikowski said he last talked to Blanda when he came to the Bears preseason game Aug. 21.

“He was like a father figure to me,” Janikowski said. “He was a great kicker and a legend. Coming here and seeing him on the sideline was special.”

Janikowski said Blanda’s messages remained consistent _ enjoy your jobs, don’t get caught up in negatvity, have fun.

He had heard of Blanda even before he became a Raider.

“When I was in college, you always look up all the kickers in the NFL from the past,” Janikowski said. “So, I heard about him for the first time in college.”

Janikowski admitted he understands what it means to be kicking for the same team Blanda did, much in the way Lechler looks up to Ray Guy.

“I feel a sense kicking, being here and kicking for this team, just being a part of his life, I felt (as if I am carrying it on).”

So when the Raiders host the Houston Texans Sunday, Janikowski has a proper response in mind.

“Especially after what happened this week and what happened with him, I would like to just go out get a winning field goal against (the Texans),” Janikowski said.

All the Al Davis flunkies accept losing.

  • Kirk

Watching Aaron Rogers run for the goal line and lay out for the touchdown tonight made me think, “Jason Campbell would have slid down a the one yard line.”

    Lefty12

I’m looking forward to seeing Gradkowski play much better man, He needs to settle down and play within himself. Don’t take so many chances with the ball. If he dpoes we have a real chance. So we’ll see….

  • lefty12

I’ve supported this team a hell of a lot longer than you.Everyone wants to win.Even though we lost yesterday it was easier to watch than the opener in Tenn. because we were competitive.BTW,genius,we are the same as the Bullalos,Detroits, etc based on the last 7 years. And you are right,we aren’t alike and thank god for that.

  • http://www.car.org KoolKell

These Davis flunkies hold Warren Sapp more accountable for the Raiders fortunes that the General Manager.

  • http://www.car.org KoolKell

The General Manager is 30-85, yet the Davis flunkies get their noses all pushed out of shape by what somebody on ESPN says.

  • lefty12

KK-to make you happy it should read-the last 7years plus 3 games the GM is 30-85- since he has been GM for the last 40+ years.

  • http://www.car.org KoolKell

Ron Wolf was the personnel man. Since then, Al Davis has been exposed as a fraud. Hasn’t done squat since.

……………….al davis is the gm and i am positive his waste size is 29 and he is 81 years old so its 29-81 dummy!!!!

  • http://www.car.org KoolKell

The only thing Al Davis is good for, is stealing credit for himself, period.

  • hendu

post 57, STR,youre right, way to much whining in here!Jump back in more often, just scroll past the whiners, oh hope youre right about the next few games!Ive got much on 9 and 7, we shall see

  • priesttj

Guy’s let’s just hope we get a win come Sunday, the past doesn’t amount to much right now. Our History is a great one but right now is all that matters.

KK can talk about the last 7 years until he’s blue in the face. Who cares?? Can we win on Sunday that’s all I care about.

  • lefty12

While that may be entirely true(you have no proof to back up the statement, just opinion),Davis has held the title of GM since before 1970 and I believe we have played more than 115 games during that period.

  • http://www.aflciodental.com/unions/IBEW.png r8eray

    Raiders win….31-28

  • priesttj

The only thing you’re good for is whinnning about him stealing credit………..so who’s worse at least he’s putting his money where his mouth is.. In that case I think you’re the fraud

  • http://www.car.org KoolKell

Enjoy your 4-12, with a little Bree & Whine.

    Out.

  • priesttj

    Good riddance Fraud….

  • lefty12

Priest,I know how much KK loves to be correct so I’m just trying to help him get his facts right.

  • priesttj

No prob, Lefty12 he hates to be ignored more.

  • Raider-DEE

    Lefty…

You would probably be satisfied if we lost every game by one point!!

    Thats what competitive means!! JACKO!!

I thank GOD… I DONT THINK LIKE YOU!!

    LOSER!!

    Go RAIDERS!! Just WIN BABY!!

  • priesttj

Go away kid!! you have no idea what he would be satisfied with. Just speak for yourself.

  • lefty12

There is no reason we can’t get a win this week.Houston may be the media’s darlings but like all NFL teams they aren’t unbeatable. If we can eliminate the stupid (offsides, false starts) penalties,we should be fine.

  • hendu

Sorry, but since late Sat evening, KK has not been the same.Yea,the record over and over again, something isnt right.Maybe a troll? KK can you speak about the SF Giants, record

  • lefty12

DEE-and if we lose a game, which we will do again, you will be one of the morons on here biotching about everything you will continue to know nothing about.

  • priesttj

Well I have to agree penalty wise, we need to force a few t/o’s as well. Get short field and score TD’s we can win this game.

  • priesttj

Houston’s defense stinks, I can’t see them stopping us if we execute. I have a good feeling about this game.

  • priesttj

Hey Champ! who are you trying to convince us or yourself.

  • lefty12

Our red-zone Off. was piss poor this last week, but I believe it will get better the more our OC and QB work together.

  • http://www.aflciodental.com/unions/IBEW.png r8eray

    I smell a Donkey’s @$$!!

  • lefty12

Champ was better than Nnamdi-when Nnamdi was in college, but that is a pretty ridiculous statement in 2010.

  • priesttj

Honestly speaking Lefty12 I think Grads was pressing especially later in the game. He really wants to prove the coaches right and just over did everything because I’ve seen him play better than that. Those throws in the redzone was not like him. If you go back to the Rams game he threw with much btter touch than that. I feel this game if he’s down there he’ll play much better.

  • lefty12

Priest,I’d like to see us run it more inside the 10.If we can prove we can stuff it in and will stuff it in, it will open up the passes close to the goal.

  • mikedlopes

Well, in other news. Our defense is Ranked 2nd Overall in the league.

  • lefty12

Priest,I just want a W.I am really tired of being right there and coming up just short because we gave it away.If we play a good game and they beat us-hats off to them, but I’m tired of giving games away.Even in many of the blow-outs we were right there then make a few mistakes and the games get out of hand.

  • priesttj

I know I’m all for the running game down there, I just was very surprised he missed on those couple of passes. He had shown the ability get that done. Other than that I’m sure they’ll get the running game revved up with Bush back.

Man DMC has been as good as I could’ve ever hoped he would be so I know this team will come around with those two. And DHB is on the come, it’s just a matter of time is all.
