If Cable gets canned, he can take Hue Jackson with him.
Now that the stupid double pass has failed miserable twice in 3 games, and killed potential drives, maybe Hue can put that one in the backpocket for the rest of the year.
September 28th, 2010 at 8:29 am
No way we get rid of Janikowski. Not for a loss in week 3 to the Cards. Just not going to happen. We didnt do it when he missed 3 and cost us home field advantage throughout we arent doing it now.
September 28th, 2010 at 8:30 am
Dont take Hue!!! IF you do that then we bring back Fartgas and start giving each RB 7 carries a game and wonder why they all suck!
September 28th, 2010 at 8:32 am
Seriously, Hue Jackson was befuddled on a 2nd and 1 from the 1 yard line.
Sent in two different formations, guys running in and out of the huddle amid chaos. Now Bruce should have bailed out Hue and called the TO, inexcusable, but if Hue calls a play, ANY PLAY, in a normal period of time, no delay and probably a TD.
Hue Jackson = the Bruce Gradkowski of OC’s.
Tons of fire and passion, very little talent.
September 28th, 2010 at 8:34 am
No doubt the 4th quarter play calling was the worst thing I have ever seen from an OC.
Didnt see this coming from the pre-season games!
September 28th, 2010 at 8:37 am
Watched the TV replay last night. If Bruce didn’t get the snap off, he just barely missed it. Meanwhile, the Cards got away with two snaps in the first half with zeroes on the playclock.
Bad beat.
What a terribly played game though. AZ with dropped passes, muffing punts, and penalties. Raiders with game management issues, missing 3 FG’s.
Seemed like a really exciting, well-played game in person, lol!! Man, what a dog it really was.
September 28th, 2010 at 8:37 am
When the Raiders are virtually eliminated from the playoffs. Which should happen in about 4-6 weeks do we go back to discussing pres purple lips? Hands down the worst Pres this Country has ever seen, yes even more of a disaster than J Carter.
September 28th, 2010 at 8:38 am
Is it the play calling from Hue or is it the execution?
His play calling worked in Cincy and Baltimore when they had a couple of decent years of offense. Heck Baltimore and Cincy had no offense befire Hue was the coordinator.
Any thoughts?

Personally, I don’t think the Texans are that good of a team, and this will be another close game.
Texans have a terrible pass defense, and have shown a knack over the last 4 years to lose bad games and always finish the season 8-8.
Same coach and QB, and I see them doing the same this year. Maybe 9-7 but still missing the playoffs.

Wasn’t calling plays in Cincy or Baltimore (WR coach in Cincy; QB’s in Baltimore) and those teams went in another direction from Hue after 2 years.
How many great offensive minds, coach for 5 teams in 7 years?

Mario Williams might end Bruce’s season with 1 good swipe. Whos going to block that guy?
JC be ready to play on Sunday!
September 28th, 2010 at 8:44 am
If Hue gets all the credit for everything that his went wrong the offense then hos is the running game working with our sorry line? I never recall DMac having as many open running lanes. I also give credit to Hue for the short routes the outs that are letting Murphy and DHB use their God given speed.
Now I do think Hue out coaches himself sometimes with the formations and I would really like to see more screen plays for the running backs they were very successful in preseason.
Grads said he rusehd the play so how can you blame Hue for the goaline situation, I missed it?
September 28th, 2010 at 8:46 am
Grads “rushed” the play because the clock was running out…..and DID run out!

I think Hue is a decent OC. Much better than Cable. He is being hamstringed by our atrocious OLine though. I will say on the delay of game, if you look at it, like JFB said its a BS call, however, if you also pay attention, Loper jumps early.

Naked bootlegs, reverses, wide receiver screens, etc..
Also more empty backfield sets.

We have to have someone in the backfield on blitz-protection pickup.
Half the time we have two guys in for it, a RB and a TE.
And McFadden was not doing a very good job on Sunday, and Miller has never really been that good at it.
Maybe they can groom Condo to be a blitz-protector.

I saw DMac stick a few blitzers. I did not rewatch the game or anything but I know I saw at least 2 or 3 instances where DMac did a great job picking up the blitz.

What this team needs is getting blown out the next 3 games,…to ensure a staff firing,…seriously, a 1-15 is our only hope that major change is coming,..if we go 6-10, Cable will convince Al how close they are,…no…we need 1-15,…thats when real change will happen….possibly even Gruden,..and when the Skins tank maybe Bruce Allen will have had enough of Snyder as well,..we can get them both back,..then the good times will return. Im real.
September 28th, 2010 at 9:02 am
Almost everybody is at fault!
Al is the worst general manager in the NFL
Tom Cable is a negligent Time Out Coordinator
Hue Jackson is an unimaginative Offensive Coordinator
Marhshall is invisible as a Defensive Coordinator
Brad Roll couldn’t stretch a hammie to save his life
Fassell Jr. is riding his dad’s coattails to nowhere
Bruce Gradkowski is a sub-par NFL QB
Gallery,Henderson,Walker are one-dimensional linemen
Carlisle and Satele are washed out NFL linemen
Schilens is made of glass
Marcel Reece doesn’t know how to run block
Richie Seymour and Tom Kelly are both out of position
Trev Scott is a one-dimensional pass-rusher
Tyvon Branch bites too hard on play-action
Mike Mitchell is in over his head
Mike Huff is a 1st round bust
CJ is a reclamation project that has run its course
Routt is hot and cold, totally unreliable, awful inside
It is easier to list the guys in this organization that are not holding it back.
Surprisingly, DMAC, DHB and Murphy have been our most solid offensive players, along with Z. Miller. On defense the linebackers have been as good or better than expected, with Groves, Wimbley and McClain. Asmougha is his usual self, not that it helps much and Houston is playing great for a rookie. That’s about it for positives…

September 28th, 2010 at 9:03 am
We don’t need anyone in the backfield for pass protection.
Empty backfield sets allow you to get the ball out before the rush even starts.
Last night the ball was out within 3 seconds.
September 28th, 2010 at 9:04 am
Grads is definitely going to get injured against the Texans. Then Cable will be fired after he loses to the Chargers.
September 28th, 2010 at 9:04 am
Noticed during the replay, the announcers were talking up McClain quite a bit.
A couple of TFL’s as well (one they gave credit to Seymour for some reason).
Run D is improving it’s ranking weekly, and I think at the end of the season they will be middle of pack.
September 28th, 2010 at 9:05 am

Another question. Right before the delay penalty, why rotate in Bush for first and goal from the 1? Not in the flow of the game at all, why not let Darren plow it in (which I think he would have)?
Besides, Darren deserves to finish drives these days, being weapon #1. He should get all the gimme 1 yard TD’s.

Deep within the bowels of the Legion of Doom (Oakland Raiders Headquarters – Alameda, CA), the Supreme Commander of the Silver & Black contemplates the direction of the team after a gut-wrenching loss to the Cardinals.
Al: Look, Tim, you just barely beat the Los Angeles Rams and the St. Louis Cardinals must be the most inept team I’ve ever seen.
Cable: It was a tough loss, Mr. Davis but we’re almost over that hump. I mean it, we’re ready to turn that corner. We just gotta clean up a few things. Penalties, mental mistakes, special teams. And we HAVE to get better in the red zone. Hue and I have been working some things to get Louis open down there a bit and—
Al: No, no, no! Heyward-Bey must have the ball in his hands. He will be the greatest receiver to ever play the game.
Cable: Sir, we tried. I mean, he’s had some nice grabs here and there. Certainly much improved over last season but Bruce has—
Al: I don’t wanna here it. I gave the Pollack a shot. He’s done.
Cable: But Mr. Davi—
Al: Silence!! I’m bringing in somebody.
Cable: God, please say its not Russell.
Al: No, unfortunately, JaMarcus said he’s judging an alligator-eating contest this weekend, so he’s unavailable until at least San Diego. We’re bringing in a veteran. Somebody with the arm strength and savvy to get the ball in the end zone.
Cable: A trade?
Al: Better. HERRERA!
Herrera emerges from underneath Al’s desk.
Herrera: Yes, sir!!
Al: Bring him in.
Herrera pushes a button on Al’s desk and a steel door, resembling a bank vault, hisses with the sound of hydraulics and the lights dim. As the door opens, a shadowy figure emerges from the swirling dry ice generated smoke.
Al: I’ve always known he’d be back.
Herrera grabs a microphone and in his best announcer voice with a laser light show flickering at a dizzying pace….
Herrera: Now, you’re new starting quarterback…. TODD MARINOVICH!!!!!!
Marinovich: Hey, anybody got any blow? I’ll take meth, Jack Daniels, LSD, or grass as a backup.
Al: Yes, of course, son we have all of that.
Cable: NOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Chicago uses empty backfield sets, and they are 3-0.
The Raiders don’t, and they are 1-2.
We either give it to Dmac to dive in the line, or Grads drops back and is a target. Our offense is WAY too predictable. Misdirection counters the rush.
September 28th, 2010 at 9:23 am
I wish Grad well man I want to see him successful, I jsut wish we could stayed with Campbell a little longer. I really think he could have done some good things in rythm.

the Cowboys D got 4 sacks, 2 INT’s and a forced fumble against that dynamic Texans offense.
the Raiders gameplan should be to try and duplicate that!
Cowgirls had 102 yards rushing on 26 carries (3.9 ypc)
Romo had 284 yards & 2 TD’s
Miles Austin was shut down, but Roy Williams & Jason Witten had a field day …
so basically, expect very little from Mike Bush & Louis Murphy (#1 WR) in this game

Many Raider fans cursing DHB throughout the game.
First pass was a beauty, he jumps up and tries to catch it with his elbow.
Next pass, offensive PI which would have had the ball down at the 10.
Made a few catches, but he just lacks the killer mentality. A pass dropping incomplete around him doesn’t seem to bother him that much.

3 things that come to mind this weekend…..
1. Get Hendu back to help stop the run
2. Stop these stupid penalties
3. Score TD’s when in the red zone
Not saying we’ll win it, but we’ll be competitive thats for sure.

I think Nnamdi can shut down Andre Johnson.
-of course, AJ is hobbling anyway. Nnamdi could stick to one side and let CJ or Routt defend him. He’s just a decoy.
*************************
can Routt & CJ (or WMAC) shut down Kevin Walter & Jacoby Jones ???
-No, I don’t think so, and Schaub knows how to spray the ball around like Drew Brees. It’s gonna be tough.
*****************************
can Branch hang with Owen Daniels or even Joel Dreessen?
-I don’t think that Branch is physical enough.
*************************
can we shut down Arian Foster or at least SLOW him down?
-Yes. He may be banged up as his shoulder was getting iced down after the Cowboys game.
*********************************
can we quit all the stupid penalties and mental errors?
-No. If it happens, it will be the refs turning a blind eye, or we got lucky.
***********************************
3 of 5 of these things will have to happen for us to even COMPETE with Houston this weekend imo
-agree!

Texans coach Gary Kubiak isn’t ruling out the possibility of giving Andre Johnson (ankle) a week off.
“I’ll evaluate it,” said Kubiak. “Obviously, he’s not feeling good today, but we don’t think there was a big setback or anything. He will be day-to-day and we will be smart with Andre Johnson. We’ve got a long way to go.” The Texans head to Oakland for Week 4. Look for A.J. to again be listed as questionable.

agree with DHB needing to be used more in the RZ.
he has an explosive first step off the line that makes DB’s nervous.
he clears the route lanes when he’s not targeted and is a penalty flag magnet when he is targeted. just needs to learn how to catch and Grads needs to stop throwing him those sidearm rising sliders.

September 28th, 2010 at 9:47 am
Also from Bleacher Report:
The only left tackle in the NFL that’s worse than Mario Henderson is Jared Veldheer. This rotation does nothing but allow Henderson and Veldheer to take turns giving up sacks.
How about giving another player a try?
Henderson is one of those lineman that may be on this list every week. He was his usual self, giving up pressures and a sack on a stunt he should know how to pick up.
As I’ve said before, his tag team partner is the only left tackle in the league worse than he is.
I guess that’s why he still plays at all.

Over the course of the past few years the NFL has bragged about its “parity”. Every team has a chance every year to go from worst to first. The NFL does everything in its power to help the struggling teams, from giving the worst teams the highest picks to compensating teams that lose a bunch of free agents with supplementary picks to providing easier schedules to teams that played poorly the prior year.
All of those things make the fact that Al Davis hasn’t put together a decent team in 8 years look even worse.

Schaub was 11/22 224 yards 1 TD 1 INT
Houston had 36 rushing attempts between Slaton and Moats for 121 yards.
Raiders gave up passes of 62,44, and 41 yards to 3 Different WRs.
Raiders also gave up a 95 yard Kickoff Return for a TD
The defense has to play better this year or Houston will roll.

The problem with this Raider team is that they get confused in tight situations.
When you are in the red zone…what are your signature plays? What’s “the play” that gets Miller open or Murphy released….who’s the short yardage receiver?
The sequence of plays at the goal line is what is the Raiders of late.
Can’t punch it in on a short run because of quick penetration in the backfield and the running back leaving feet too early….A STUPID PENALTY (Gotta keep head in the game)…and then a couple of throw aways.
Good teams simply score right there. The Raiders still don’t know how to win…worse yet…they’ve been bad for so long that they really don’t know the finer points of just executing.
Getting to the red zone is a battle in of itself..the coaches and players need to learn how to punch it in.
Gotta ask again…what do they do in practice?
September 28th, 2010 at 9:59 am

That would be a mistake. First of all, good LTs are the 2nd most valuable players on the team. No team is trading a “GOOD” LT….
Also, I think Bush is going to play a key role in this offense. If the Raiders start running the ball 35 to 40x….like they should…you will need two backs.

Canadianraider,
The only time to take a receiver that high is if the guy has the height, weight, speed, hops AND hands all in one package. That receiver also has to have dominated in college.
DHB IS too much of a project. The guy is not a complete receiver yet. He’s facing mostly one-on-one as the defenses focus more on Miller and Murphy.
DHB might develop into a decent receiver…but not an elite one.
Should have went in a different direction that year.
Receivers and QBs are the hardest positions to draft for and are certainly not the positions you want to REACH for in the early rounds.
But 4.2 40x is 4.2 around here

I’ll tell ya. We fans have no hope. We have terrible coaches but what do you expect? Nobody wants to coach this team so we’re bound to get the bottom of the barrel. Does it really matter with Al running everything anyway? We have a culture of losing. Al picks every coach and player so if you have someone who has clearly lost touch with football does it really makes sense to argue about bad play calling, missed field goals, and time mismanagement? Those would seem to be only symptoms of a much larger problem. I don’t know if even 1-15 would force Al to drastically fix this. If 8 years of double loss seasons hasn’t yet why would one more?

DHB was killing the dbs all game long!!!! he was mentally tough, bounced back like a champ after struggling in the first quarter. DHB has the right attitude, team mates and coaches love him. Not a diva like crabtree.
DHB is still just a kid! i think its very difficult for a 19 year old to play with men in the nfl. DHB is what 20-21 now. I think this is his biggest weakness, the physicality that you must have to play in the leauge. This is why he still struggles in the middle of the feild, and fighting for position going deep. Signs that he is not far away, the 4th down 4th quarter catch. DHB TOOK OVER THE GAME ON THE FINAL DRIVE!!!!!!The way he now catches and turns up field he couldnt do that last year. As his body matures over the next year or two he will improve leaps and bounds. This kid is just barley scratching the surface, I see about 50-60 catches this year and probably up around 90 the year after that. looks like Al called this one right!

Nick Miller was inactive in WK1, but has been active the past 2 games due to the many injuries this team has suffered over the past 2 weeks
he hasn’t seen the playing field because Heyward-Bey, Murphy & Higgins are all better receivers.

Murphy is ahead of DHB in terms of technique, polish, and playing football. Perhaps because he stayed in school longer. But when it comes to raw talent you can see DHB is one one the most gifted young players with things that cant be coached, size, power and speed.
DHB isnt close to reaching his upside yet, but he is getting better every week, and when his football technique, and knowledge, are on par with his natural abilities……he will be head and shoulders one of the more dangerous threats u=in the league. You’re not giving DHB enough credit. His hands are still not that great, but he made a huge impact on the game Sunday. He’s such a better player than he was last year. Just about every time we go to him, he’s open. Murphy is good too, but I’m convinced now that DHB will surpass him. The Cards were scared of the guy by the end of the game. I’m with you on the “great attitude” cliches. I get really sick of hearing that stuff, especially where the Boy Wonder QB is concerned. But this guy is more than that now.

Agreed. I drinking the DHB Koolaid now. This is why the Raiders drafted him and he’s starting to make it happen. The Cards were so concerned with him that they put DRC on him on the final drive. And DHB kicked his ass. I wouldn’t trade him for Michael Crabree now.
========================================================
=======================
“DHB TOOK OVER THE GAME ON THE FINAL DRIVE!!!!!!”
See? Perfect example on what being in the sun too long will do to you. DHB caught ONE BALL,…one..when the D went soft and gave him a cushion. Was a ball even you, with your heat stroke, would have caught.
Reality is DHB had what? 12 balls thrown at him..and caught 3?
I know, I know…reality bites sometimes.
Don’t forget sunscreen.

DHB sucked on Sunday.
Dropped the first pass of the game, than Offensive PI on the second pass.
Dropped one in the end zone after the delay of game, in which he had ten fingers on the ball.
Stopped running on the PI call at the end of the game, but who knows if he would have kept running his route, he might have had a TD.
Cards were never scared to blitz and leave him in single coverage.

Last year DHB couldnt get off the line of scrimmage, couldnt seperate from defenders, and couldnt catch a hooker on E.14 st. But sunday I saw him beat press man at scrimmage, seperate and smoke dbs. he slowed down on one ball and had a bad drop in the first quarter, but he bounced back and was a force. Please beleive that after being targeted 11 times, being missed on some open plays, and taking over in money time on the final drive the rest of the nfl is aware and will be forced to account for him.
September 28th, 2010 at 10:53 am
DHB was left in single coverage, all game, and had twelve passes thrown his way, and he had 3 catches for less than 50 yards and no TD’s.
Terrible game.
And his offensive PI took points off the board on the first drive, to offset the potential points he almost got back on the board on the last drive.

Mistic,
I don’t know man. Louis Murphy is the kid playing like the top 10 draft pick.
DHB is mostly single covered and has not shown much playmaking ability yet. Running fast and having a great attitude really doesn’t count for much when you are getting $25million.
Get DHB to Murphy’s standard…then we can talk
@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@
You’re not giving DHB enough credit. His hands are still not that great, but he made a huge impact on the game Sunday. He’s such a better player than he was last year. Just about every time we go to him, he’s open. Murphy is good too, but I’m convinced now that DHB will surpass him. The Cards were scared of the guy by the end of the game. I’m with you on the “great attitude” cliches. I get really sick of hearing that stuff, especially where the Boy Wonder QB is concerned. But this guy is more than that now.
============================
LMAO at you, Oakdork.
the cards were scared of the guy, by the end of the game?
HE HAD 12 BALLS THROWN AT HIM, MENTAL MIDGET..if he was so “open” then why only catch 25% of balls thrown at you?
You’re still pining over the “bonified NFL qb, Russell”, aren’t you?

September 28th, 2010 at 11:17 am
He struggled in the first half, this would have been enough for him to tank or disappear totaly last year, but he bounced back!!!! Not to mention he was under thrown on a fade by grads, then over thrown at the back of the endzone. he had another oppurtunity in the endzone and corner broke up the pass, ( because grads couldnt put enough mustard on the ball to get it to him cleanly).
And yes even though he only cuaght 3 of 11, defenses must consider him as a threat especially in light of what he did on the final drive!!!! DHB IS DEVELOPING, AND NOW TEAMS CANT JUST WORRY ABOUT HIS SPEED, THEY NEED TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT HIS PLAY MAKING ABILITY. BY THE WAY THAT IS NOW TWO WEEKS IN A ROW WHERE HE HAS PLAYED A MAJOR ROLE IN MONEY TIME, THE 4TH QUARTER.
I am proud of him, his work ethic and the results that are beginning to show on the sunday. When your wide out comes up big in money time, thats what you ask a number one to do. We havent missed chaz the glass at all, thanks to the development of DHB!
September 28th, 2010 at 11:21 am
I have to agree that DHB still drops to many passes but I think in the long run he is going to develop into a BEAST!!!
I am happy with are young WRs developing in the next three years. I wish they did not have to jump in so quick and had more time to work their way in by focusing on their strong points but are lack of depth at WRs pushed them out ont he field.
September 28th, 2010 at 11:22 am
Funny how so many people are down on DHB, like they were down on DMAC. The nfl is not the nba! Its very difficult for a 19 20 year old kid to play with men in the nfl! DHB is ahead of the curve beleive it or not.
Also pointing out that he only caught3 of 11 passes is a bit misleading, i counted at least 5 of those 11 passes as being simply uncatchable, inaccurate throws from grads, including all 3 of DHB’s endzone patterns!
September 28th, 2010 at 11:24 am
Mistic I agree with you but I think Chaz in there could actually benefit him in the long run. That is a lot of speed to spread over the field.

Time to move forward folks.
The Raiders need to win this game versus the Texans….badly.
Need to stop the ZBS running game and contain Foster, wrap him up and gang tackle.
Must get consistent pressure on Schaub by doing some zone blitzing and occasionally do some corner blitzing.
Nnamdi can handle Andre Johnson for most of the day and solidify himself as the Best Cornerback in the game!
Offensive play calling needs to be heavily mixed up to confuse the Houston defense and keep them off balance and of course freakin TD’s need to be scored!

Nick Miller was inactive in WK1, but has been active the past 2 games due to the many injuries this team has suffered over the past 2 weeks
he hasn’t seen the playing field because Heyward-Bey, Murphy & Higgins are all better receivers.
JLH on punts is cool, but if somebody doesn’t step up on kick returns lil Nicky could get some time on the field before WK16!
September 28th, 2010 at 11:31 am
When Chaz comes back it is going to be interesting. I hope people relize that we havent really seen the raiders offense yet. Injury to Chaz, means we havent been able to run our three wide sets. This is the base of hue’s offense!!!! So we havent seen what it really will look like yet. Also the lack of decent o-lin play may also keep up from a lot of 3 wides when chaz is back. Understand that the o-line play is going into al davis note book. He wants 3 wides, this is why he drafted chaz, murphy and DHB, put them all on the field with dmac and miller, the speed is over whelming.
Cable’s o-line is holding back the entire team! Davis wont say anything until we finish 7-9 and he is explaining to cable why he wont return.

Dear fans,
I realise that my Raiders are doing bad so far this year. In fact, they have been doing bad for severals years now. In fact, they have been doing bad for at least 8 years in-a-row now — who am I kidding. But that does not change the fact that my Raiders are the team of the decades, under my guidance. With my actions, regardless of the inspirational words I have brought to you, I have shown that as of the new millenium, you fans are not worth bringing in a General Manager, or President of Operations, or a winning Head Coach to fully focus on bringing my Raiders back to greatness. You, the few dollars that you may spend, and your dedication to my Raiders, is not worth me spending money on bonified Head Coach to lead my team. You fans are only worth me bringing in coaches that will take direction, tow the company line, and keep their yaps shut when things inevidably go bad.
Yes, by my actions alone, regardless of my words, I am stating that you fans do not deserve the key ingredients for success such as having a top tier: VP, GM, and/or a winning Head Coach to start out with.
So please, pipe down, shell out the few measley bucks you may have, and watch as I and my staff lead my Raiders to defeat every Sunday. If you don’t like it, too bad; you can just stop rooting for the Raiders or keep your pie holes shut.
Sincerely, Al
P.S. Don’t make me tell you this again or else.

DMac Murphy Miller, yes. But you have to target DHB in the redzone as well. As he improves in this area he will prove valuable. With his big body and speed, fades and corner routes will be difficult to defend. he needs to be more physical when the ball is in the air, (body hasnt matured yet). But mainly grads has to put the ball in the right spot. DHB open in the corner 3 times sunday, GRADS HIT THE DB IN THE ASS ON ONE, THREW IT OUT OF THE ENDZONE ON ANOTHER, AND COULDNT GET ENOUGH ZIP ON THE BALL TO GET IT PAST THE DB ON A THIRD. before we knock DHB the qb has to put the ball in a spot where he can actually make a play on it.

Cole Ford is only 38 years old. He could still be a place kicker in the NFL. I’m not sure if he is still incarcerated or not, but Al should give this guy a look.
For those of you not familiar with the history of Mr. Ford, he was the Raiders’ kicker who did a drive-by on Siegfried & Roy’s home. For a time, he was also a regular contributor to this blog. His reasoning for the shooting was that he thought (according to Wikipedia) the performers had a sexual relationship with their animals and it was a factor in the development of the AIDS virus. I bet he could still make a 32 yard field goal.

Our secondary has been hot and cold. Namdi Land, Routt, Ware, Brown and Mitchell, have looked good. Huff Branch, johnson have been shakey. Also where are the take aways? This team needs to create turn overs in the secondary, Its not enough just to have blanket coverage. I think this is the main reason to get brown on the field. Out of all the guys he seems to have a knack for the turn over.

Only three of Oakland’s 13 trips inside of the red zone have resulted in touchdowns. The Raiders are ranked 30th in touchdown efficiency. That says a lot about our team. We need touchdowns to win games and not fg’s.

Andre Johnson said Monday that he doesn’t have “any doubts at all” about playing Sunday at Oakland.
Johnson said his condition is “about the same” as last week, and he will take the “same approach” this week. Johnson conceded that there will be a play or two where the pain will force him to the sidelines for a breather, but he’ll re-enter after having the ankle re-taped. Coach Gary Kubiak isn’t ruling out a game of rest for Johnson, though you can bet the receiver will fight hard against it. We’re tentatively expecting him to face off against Nnamdi Asomugha on Sunday.

The Raiders are actually tied for the most trips inside the red zone with 13. Oakland has scored only three touchdowns for the third-worst percentage in the NFL.

Repost for the PM squad:

I think Hue is an improvement over the Cable guy, but that isn’t saying much. Thats like saying Frye or Boller is better than JaFranchise.
I don’t think Campbell got a fair shake to keep the starting job. Maybe sitting on the bench for 3-5 games will help him get a better grasp of the offense and he’ll be ready to play when Grads lands on injured reserve?

The Todd Marinovich Story:
Todd returned to football for the last time in the spring of 2000 — a mercurial stint with the Los Angeles Avengers in the Arena Football League. His first year, he tied the record for most touchdowns in a single game despite undergoing severe heroin withdrawal; after [expletive]ting his pants during warm-ups, he came out and threw ten touchdowns to win a game against the Houston Thunderbears. That same year, at age thirty-one, he was named to the all-rookie team. The next season, he became L.A.’s franchise player. The day he picked up his signing bonus, he was busted buying heroin. With him in the truck was $30,000 cash in an envelope. Toward the end of the season, he was ejected from successive games for throwing a clipboard and a hand towel at officials. Finally, he was suspended from the team.
“At that point, heroin became my full-time job,” Todd says.
September 28th, 2010 at 1:56 pm
DHB was targeted 11 times, but many of those passes were inaccurate garbage throws that were way off target. DHb had a drop and slowed down on a rout but other than that he played well.

He definitely is guilty of trying to protect his Body against getting hit. His drop was case of him pulling his arms in too quickly. I believe this is a result of not yet being physically tough ( matured) to handle the punishment from grown nfl men. As he continues to grow as a man he will learn to absorb those shots and become much tougher. By the time hes 22-23 he will be much bigger and stronger and wont be nearly as timid. we are already seeing signs of this, as evidenced by his turning up field after catches instead of diving to the ground like he did last year.

I can honestly say that even though the Texans secondary has been torched the past 3 weeks they will do nothing to rectify it this week against Oakland.
they will stack 8 in the box every play to try and shut down McFadden, forcing Bruce to beat them through the air. Bruce might have better leadership skills than Prez BO, but his arm and accuracy are about equal to Tim Hasselbeck (who Hue Jax had in Washington). I don’t think Bruce is ready to put this team on his back and will it to victory, especially if the Texans have anything that resembles a pass rush

Report: Davis will tell Cable he’s fired today
Posted by Michael David Smith on January 11, 2010 11:10 AM ET
Citing unnamed “people up and down the organizational chart,” the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis will meet with coach Tom Cable today “to discuss all the reasons he’ll get fired.”
According to the Chronicle, the only question is whether Cable will be fired for cause.
Last week it was reported that Davis was likely to fire Cable. For his part, however, Cable described himself as “pretty sure” he’d return as the Raiders’ coach for the 2010 season.
The truth is, no one knows what Davis will do. But if Cable is pretty sure he’s going to remain the Raiders’ coach, he’s the only one.

Sean Peyton was also a replacement player in 1987…QB…Joe Montana crossed the line also,..actually I applauded that,..unions are garbage…take your money and use it for themselves,..this day and age, unions are just worthless.

Labor Unions Rise
The rise of labor organizations resulted
from the growth of industry in the 1920s
and the devastating effects of
the Great Depression in the 1930s.
During the Great Depression, unemployment was high. Many employers tried to get as much work as possible from their employees for the lowest possible wage. Workers were upset with the speedup of assembly lines, working conditions and the lack of job security. Seeking strength in unity, they formed unions.
The same thing holds true today the rich republican right trying too get richer by busting unions.
September 28th, 2010 at 3:47 pm
Personally I think Cable should be canned today,…why wait til the bye….sucks the bye is so late this year,…we have to wait til midseason,..what a jip.
September 28th, 2010 at 3:49 pm
Perhaps the Raiders can use this devasting lost to band together and start a winning streak. On paper these Raiders are much improved:
#2 in league total defense
#10 in league total offense
Obviously playing the Rams and Cards helped but you never know…
September 28th, 2010 at 3:52 pm
Devastating loss?…youre kidding right?…a devastating loss is a loss by a team that rarely loses….the Raiders are only devastated if they win,..they are bewildered, unsure what to do or act afterwards.

THE RUE THE DAY THEY HATED ON OR WERE WISHY-WASHY ON MCFADDEN LIST:
LA to TheBay?? What? I was on the redeemed list until I posted this I think.
From the vault:
After a disappointing loss to the Houston Texans, a game in which he had ran for negative yardage, Raiders 1st round pick, running back Darren McFadden, was strolling to the bus to join his teammates when he received a phone call.
McFadden: Hello?
Caller (female voice): Darren!
McFadden: Yeah, who this?
Caller: Don’t act like you can play me, muthaphukka, and don’t gimme that ‘who this,’ you KNOW who this is.
McFadden: Sheila?
Caller: Try again, foo.
McFadden: Lisa.
Caller: Have you seriously been phukkin that many h03s?
McFadden: Well, um…
Caller: Dammit, don’t you remember Atlanta?
McFadden: Nah, I was pretty crunked. Teri? Nah, nah, that was KC. Tracy? Susie? Phuong Trang?
An assailant with a bad weave and tacky pumps leaps from behind a car in the parking lot, wielding a Louisville Slugger. It’s our mysterious caller.
McFadden: Oh, it’s you! Damn, we had a hell of a time didn’t we? Uh, what was your name again?
The weaved assailant bull rushes McFadden with the fury of an outside linebacker. McFadden tries to dodge her attack, but trips over his shoelaces and does a face plant.
The assailant proceeds to pummel McFadden repeatedly, striking his knee with a full swing that would have gotten a fastball out of a few ballparks.
Caller: Hah, how you like that, punk?! Come on kids, get some.
A horde of toddlers appear from all directions and swarm McFadden, kicking, biting, and ear-pulling.
McFadden: B;ch, didn’t I have a Trojan on when I hit it?
Caller: That ain’t stoppin’ me from gettin’ paid. Once I’m done with you, I’m headin’ to Ray Lewis’ house.

Sunday will not be close! I think grads will turn the ball over more than once, thus taking dmac out of the game. If grads is forced to throw we lose by at least 2 touchdowns.

That’s what they get for relying on FG’s to win games. If you have no choice that’s one thing but t run the clock down with 1st and 10 at the 15 with a minute to play is not what I call taking the bull by the horns and making sure you exhaust all opportunities. While I don’t like the Seabass miss and it hurt like hell. They should’ve taken at least one shot into the endzone next time they will.

Why risk it if you have real confidence in a 10 year veteran with the extensive resume you claim he has.
Apparently Cable did. I don’t fault him for that.
I fault him for how he handled it afterward. Call out your vets. EXPECT THEM TO PERFORM. He had no problem benching Campbell.
Why didn’t Campbell get an I love you and the keep your head up speech? Is that only reserved for a kicker that has dealt with flubs, alcohol, and confidence issues in the past.

KC’s Shaun Smith accused (and proven) to have grabbed Anthony Davis’ nuts during game
——————————————————————————–
Quote:
Update (10:31 a.m. September 28): Kansas City Chief Shaun Smith has been accused of grabbing opposing players’ balls twice in the last two weeks. Smith denied it, but it’s pretty hard to deny video evidence. Watch the videos after the jump …
Original Story (11 a.m. September 27): Cleveland Browns center Alex Mack isn’t the only player accusing Kansas City Chief Shaun Smith of bad touching.
San Francisco 49ers rookie right tackle Anthony Davis is now claiming Smith grabbed his junk in Sunday’s 31-10 loss to the as-of-yet undefeated Chiefs.
“He tried to feel me,” Davis told CSNBayArea.com. “That’s weird, right?”
No, there’s nothing uncomfortable about a 325-pound dude violently hitting you and then touching your wang. Davis was penalized for retaliating.
Davis’ coach, Mike SIngletary, has his back.
“I think he got hit inappropriately,” Singletary said. “After a while, there’s only so much you can take. He (Davis) was wrong for retaliating and he knows that.”
Last week, Mack, the Browns center, claimed Smith yanked his crank in a loss to the Chiefs.
“I don’t think he should be able to do that,” Mack said last week. “I’m still fired up about it.”
Mack claimed the alleged pecked pulling happened during a running play. Afterward, Mack tried to chase Smith to Kansas City’s sideline but ended his pursuit because Cleveland’s punt team was headed onto the field. Mack tried to tell an official but Smith denied it. Smith also didn’t want to talk about the incident.
“I don’t have no comment,” Smith said in a report on KMBC’s website. “I don’t recall doing anything like that. I’m not known for being a dirty player or anything like that, so I don’t know what that was all about.”
Smith wasn’t fined for supposedly cupping Mack’s grapefruits. So there wasn’t anything on video the NFL could prove. We’ll see if Smith makes it out of this week without a fine. Still, the NFL probably should call in Mack and Davis and have them show where Smith touched them on an anatomically correct doll.

Man, Priest, I’m not offended brother. But this is a microcosm of the problems that exist in Oakland. If I can see the double standard here, so can the other players in the locker room.
Certain players are allowed to be inconsistent without fear because they have no accountability. Yet, Campbell is benched after 6 quarters.
I’m not saying that I disagree with Campbell’s benching. On the contrary, I think Cable should hold every player to that same standard, including Janikowski.

Janokowski misses game winning kick for second week in a row
-A.P
After Raider kicker Sebastian Janokowski missed his second consecutive potential game winning field goal attempt, this one from 29 yds. head coach Tom Cable proclaimed his continued support for the veteran kicker; “I told Seabass that it happens. Plain and simple. I told him not to get too down on himself. He wasn’t the only reason we lost that football game. We’re gettting better at doing some things out there, but obviously there’s a few things we still have to get worked out. We’ll watch the film and see where we can get better. We have to. As far as Seabass and that last kick goes, we all thought it was going through. I’m surprised it didn’t. He worked hard all week on getting better and working some things out. He did make a nice 34 yarder there in the first half that helped us. That’s all we can ask of him. Keep working, get better at things. I think he did that for the most part. He was a little down in the locker room about it and I told him just to shake it off; keep working. I kissed him on the cheek and told him I still love him. Told him we’re gonna need him later in the season when the games start to matter. I’m behind him 100 %. He’s not the reason we lost out there today. 10 times out of 10 he makes that kick there.”
-A.P.

September 28th, 2010 at 9:01 pm
75 you are way over thinking this, if you think he’s not being held accuntable that’s yur opinion. What do you wnat them to do, cut him? He’s been more consistent than anyone except Lechler. I think you guy’s way overreact to everything. He missed a FG that could’ve won it. He’ll win a lot of games for us and has won many. But fans live in the moment and that’s what you’re doing. It happened move on.
September 28th, 2010 at 9:07 pm
it don’t matter who we hire al please leave or die
September 28th, 2010 at 9:07 pm
He missed 3 FGs. not 1, but 3. And its not the first time.
He is a kicker. not a QB. What’s wrong with bringing in some competition? Maybe cutting him?
Who Cares? HE IS A FRICKIN KICKER.
Living in the moment? Dude has done this several times over the last 10 years.
Kickers are a dime a dozen. If they can’t do the job, see ya!
September 28th, 2010 at 9:10 pm
Do you really understand how hard it is to find a kicker you can trust let alone one who’s been as reliable as Jano.
I’m just glad none f you make any real decisions for this team…………..you’re as fickle as a 2 year old child.
September 28th, 2010 at 9:11 pm
we need a number 2 corner back so bad routt embarrsing
September 28th, 2010 at 9:12 pm
Actually he missed 3 in the first 2 games. There was a penalty on one so he got a do-over and made it. And no its not even close to being the first time. Jano has made many FG’s that were meaningless as far as the outcome of the game. He’s missed FAR too many that would have kept us close or given a lead.
He is garbage plain & simple. I been calling for his head for almost 5 years!
tj is deranged as any human being can be.

oh well, time to move on.
My griping won’t stop the lunacy in Oakland.
The coach can kiss the kicker, let him ride home on his lap, tuck him in, and read him a bed time story. All the while, we’ll just sit back and pretend nothing happened and blame it all on the rest of the team.
and the losing goes on and on and on and on…..
September 28th, 2010 at 9:14 pm
I can gaurantee yu that all of you Gradkowski fans will turn on him as soon as he thrws 3 picks and cost us a game. This is sports it’s very unpredictable. Things happen to the best of players. You can’t cut guy’s based on one freakin game.
Get a clue….

Im glad you dont make any decisions for the Oakland Raiders.

-JaMeatloaf Russell

You sure missed on DMAC too! Quite a record there tj!
September 28th, 2010 at 9:15 pm
There are TWO positions on the team that usually get the reverse results when presented with the PERFORM OR ELSE angle.
That’s qb’s…and kickers.
For both it’s a head game. Feel confident and you perform smoothly…feel stress, pressure, and anxiety? you tighten up like a drum, and there is no way they can be at their best.
Of course there is always the pressure that someone wants your job, but telling them do it or else usually results in “else”.
September 28th, 2010 at 9:15 pm

Just looking at his stats. Only 5 years at 80% or above. He has 4 years below 72% and 2 of those were below 70%.
He is 61% right now through 3 games.

September 28th, 2010 at 9:26 pm
75,
I have never looked at his stats I just have a good memory. Not a surprise at all. He has hit more goal post and hooked more field goals than any kicker should be allowed. His 1st round draft status only amplifies that.

Yeah, I’ve come down off my ledge from Sunday where I was calling for his head. We can’t just go pick up a new kicker at this point so he definitely needs to shape up.
But, man, the coaching staff HAS GOT to do a better job of coaching these players. It takes 3 misses and a game being pissed away for him to practice kicking? That’s weak sauce, man. A good coach makes sure everyone is prepared. I realize kickers have bad days. It’s a fact of life. But it was more than that. You could tell from watching him on the sidelines that he was absolutely dreading that kick. He was sweating bullets and pacing with a towel on his head. The kid either needs some psychiatric help (and I don’t mean that as an insult) or the coaching staff needs to train him to be prepared for pressure situations. Why not make him kick in practice with something on the line that affects the whole team? It can only help.

Way too much negativity, guys. What’s so great about the Texans, a team that has NEVER won 9 games in a season? You are afraid of the 1 defensive player they have? I’m not. We should be able to score 27 points. Nnamdi won’t let Andre Johnson do much. I would prefer an INT, but nevertheless, Raider defense is much better. This is the game that DEFINES the season. And eff the Charger fan here. San Diego is the armpit of US Sports. How many World Championships, San Diego? ZERO!

September 28th, 2010 at 11:30 pm
Yeah, they need to ride DMAC for everything he has. This kid gets it this year and I’m excited about that. I was wondering if they could have called his number more often in the second half. Of course we can second guess until we’re blue in the face. The fact is that the offense was moving the ball but couldn’t get out of it’s own way in the red zone. That and those friggin missed FGs. Damit Jano!!!
September 28th, 2010 at 11:32 pm
I think we have a chance in the next 2 games, certainly. Especially at home. I just hope the fans don’t boo Jano. As pissed as I am at him, we can’t be booing the guy at home. It will only make things worse. Kickers are funny like that. You hope they move on but things can get in their head.

The only thing the Chargers have to do with this, is that they’ve beaten us 16 times in a row.

He’s our kicker. Yes, he failed miserably. He needs to get over it. And anybody that boos him before the game Sunday lacks compassion. You have to give him another chance. I’m confident he won’t do this again. If he does it again this season, then he’s gone!

I wish Davis would bury his ego and go hire Gruden. I really do. Just think of the marketing potential too. You hire the guy, then get a few billboards with his scowl and a caption below that reads “HE’S BAAAAACK!”. Place would be sold out, guaranteed. But Davis would never do it. Not if his life depended on it. So we’re stuck. But, just the same. It doesn’t take a top-flight coach to know that you have to prepare your players. Any schmuck should know that and Cable certainly should. I mean if I’m sitting here making that observation as a fan with no qualifications, an NFL O-line coach certainly should. Pull your head out of your azz Cable!

As much as I enjoyed Gruden, we’ve been there and done that. The best coach in the Bay Area of any sport is Jim Harbaugh if we can get him I’m on board all day long. Although Cable is not a great coach if he stays out of the way he can win. We have very good Coordinators IMO. Leave the OLine alone and let them develope at one specific position. And he’ll keep his job.
September 28th, 2010 at 11:46 pm
Where did I say I hated Cable? I just said he needed to do a better job of preparing his players. Do you need any more evidence of that than an ill-prepared kicker and the lack of discipline exhibited on the field Sunday? Position to win? Ha! A disciplined team would have made the Cardinals pay for all of their mistakes. But, instead, we out-matched them. We have a ton more talent than that Cardinals team and should have creamed them.

TSR-Sorry,I know you didn’t say it,but most on here do without any justification IMO.Yes,we were in position to win.All we needed was for our PK to make a chip shot FG and we win.The only penalties that really bother me are the false starts,off-sides,and delays-those are STUPID penalties. Most of the other penalties are called at the whim of the officials and we seldom get the benefit of the doubt on those.I was amazed they called the PI on DHB even though it was obvious the guy arm-barred him and impeded his progress all the way down the field. The week before he was interfered with at least 3 times with no call.
September 28th, 2010 at 11:59 pm
I wouldn’t mind seeing Cable get canned. It pissed me off when he threw JR under the bus after the season. Very Bush League. To me, he just seems like a guy desperate to keep his job and will make a scapegoat out of anyone he can to do so. We could do a lot better than him in my opinion.
September 29th, 2010 at 12:02 am

Good point there Lefty. Even though we got some calls this past Sunday, I also felt they could have called a lot more. I get the feeling the officials started second-guessing themselves and stopped calling PIs if they were close, instead calling the obvious ones.

Man, JR deserved what he got. Sorry but that dude has issues. I’m sure Cable was frustrated with the kid’s indifference and got tired of dancing around it. Especially when JR took absolutely no responsibility for himself. I mean, this is the guy that threw his WRs under the bus, remember? Talked about them not making plays for him and all that BS. That’s not a leader. Just the opposite. He needs professional help. It’s good that he got himself a life coach.
September 29th, 2010 at 12:15 am
i think al davis and his lawyers can help j. russell get his life back in order….
September 29th, 2010 at 12:17 am
TSR,
You say JR wasn’t a leader, but what about Cable? I’ve never seen a head coach lay the blame for a failed season at the feet of one player, even if it’s true. And in this case, it’s not. There was no consistent running game, rookie WRs, no pass protection, no return game and a garbage defense. Plus Cable brought distractions to the team with the Randy Hanson incident along with the revelations of how he treated his wife and a former girlfriend. Trying to blame JR for not making the playoffs was total BS! I would have fired him within an hour of his making that comment.
September 29th, 2010 at 12:18 am
The bust was supposed to be our savior. We were all rooting for him and wanted him to be successful. The #1 pick who would help turn us around. He let the fans down,he let the team down and he got what he deserved.
September 29th, 2010 at 12:25 am
No one player can turn it around on his own. And as far as I’m concerned, he didn’t let the fans down. He was around all summer and showed up to minicamp ready to fight for his job. It was the Raiders’ decision to cut him for Jason Campbell of all people!
September 29th, 2010 at 12:32 am
The only reason he showed up was so he wouldn’t forfeit his money. Not caring, not taking his job seriously, missing meetings, not studying and learning the playbook, letting his drug use affect his performance,etc.-that is letting his teammates, his boss, and the fans down.If you can’t see that it is only because you don’t want to see it.

Dez Bryant Picks Up $55,000 Dinner Tab for Cowboys Teammates
FanHouse Staff
Dez Bryant probably should have opted to carry Roy Williams’ pads.
Bryant, a rookie Dallas Cowboys receiver, said he’s rather take the fellow offensive players out to dinner and buy them some Nikes instead of hauling Williams’ pads around during training camp — a friendly rookie hazing activity. The problem was that Williams also invited the defensive players to the meal.
The bill from Monday night’s dinner at Pappas Bros. Steakhouse came to $54,896, ESPNDallas.com reported.
“They got the young fella,” Bryant’s adviser David Wells, told the website. “What could he say? He had to pay it, unless he wanted to wash dishes for a month.”
Watching his teammates order expensive bottles of wine and just about everything else on the menu likely didn’t help Bryant’s stress-fractured rib feel any better. The team disclosed that Bryant played with that injury against Houston in Week 3.
The Cowboys have a bye in Week 4, meaning Bryant has extra time to rest his injury.

That’s a tough one. There was already so much invested in him. He got to walk with $40 million. I know it’s not my money, but what’s $5 milliion more? If I’m the owner, yeah I’m pissed off that he didn’t work hard enough. But c’mon, it’s not an unforgivable. he wouldn’t be the 1st guy to not work as hard as he should early in his career. And the last two times he played in games for us, he beat Denver in the final minutes on the road and had a pretty good showing against Baltimore. Plus, several reporters said he looked in good shape and was the best QB out there on the 1st day of minicamp. Don’t know what happened behind the scenes, but it just didn’t make sense to me that they’d cut him then. I mean, for Jason Campbell??
September 29th, 2010 at 12:49 am
Exactly,Priest, and as one of his biggest critics I wish he would have reworked his contract and stayed so he could have sat and learned-not only the system but what it took and meant to be an NFL QB.
September 29th, 2010 at 12:52 am
Debo no one would like to have seen Russell here more than me, I mean no one. But he made a choice Mr Davis couldn’t swallow. If Mr Davis had given him that money it would’ve destroyed the lockeroom. Trust me the players were weary of Russell lack of committment to the team.
Now look at it this way, say he takes the pay cut and comes in hungry for competition and ready to lead. They would’ve lined up behind him. They all knew of his immense talent they saw in the minicamp. All he had to do is help Mr Davis keep him. There’s no question in my mind he is a better player than Grads but he needed to sharpen his game and put it on display. So there is NO QUESTION who he was and what he could do. He just didn’t allow Mr Davis to give him that opportunity.
September 29th, 2010 at 12:57 am
So it’s pretty much confirmed that Al offered him a chance to stay at a reduced salary? Any idea what he was offered? If that’s truly the case, that’s cool. And if JR wanted out of here, I think that is understandible. Just can’t help thinking “what if”. DMAC and DHB are starting to come around and we have Hue now. Imagine JR throwing lasers downfield to those guys. Al had that “triplets” vision with these guys and I think he pulled the plug too soon.

When he was in games and focused he showed flashes of greatness, but bad advise and immaturity cost him. Russell at 260 and focused. Listening to the coaches and sacrificing the party time for film study would’ve been flat out awesome to see. He just needed to mature a lot more and no one would’ve been able to argue with him being here if he had redone his contract. It wasn’t the money it was the principle, a show of good faith and determination.
September 29th, 2010 at 1:04 am
Debo, you know Mr Davis all he wanted to see is some committment from Russell. The contract wouldn’t have been embarrassing. It would have been a way for Mr Davis to take some pressure off Russell. All anyone ever talked about was the money he was making. That would’ve been a dead issue. Even Jerry had to admit that Russell at a reduced rate was a bargain he saw what that kid did in minicamp. G back and look at the Blog after the minicamp.

You’re obviously right. I just thought Al would be a little more patient. I mean, JR had to suffer through the growing pains of Murphy and DHB and an injured DMAC. He deserved a chance to turn his career around here IMO. But he’ll get another chance somewhere else. Lots of shaky qb situations around the league.
September 29th, 2010 at 1:09 am
I think Mark Purdy did a very good article on Russell and revealed a lot. The kid was out of sorts especially when his uncle died. Wher he comes from to being in Oakland wasn’t good for him. Uncle Ray was a very good enfluence but he died leaving a home sick immature kid with a bad posse here to fend for himself. It was a bad mix but the Raiders did everything they could he just wasn’t ready.
September 29th, 2010 at 1:17 am
I hope the reports of him doing well at John Lucas’ camp are true. If he could come back and get a starting job, what a redemption story that would be, huh?
September 29th, 2010 at 1:23 am
It’s already in the making, that kid is way too talented to waste all that talent on homies. He was embarrassed and didn’t know how to handle being benched and ridiculed. Russell is a very nice kid who was in a whirlwind trying to get a hold of himself but with no one he trusted that could really help him. He’s in Houston with Lucas getting the mentoring that he lost when his uncle died. His father and mother are separated and his father wasn’t much of an example from what I gather.
It’s a real sad story for the Raiders but his story isn’t over not even close.
September 29th, 2010 at 2:02 am
People should be kept or fired based on their statistics and production. Not “Talent”(unless maybe they’re a rookie and still learning). The truely talented seem to have a way to show it on the field.
Normally you’ll see the guys who don’t have the height-weight ratio have to show their production a lot more to stay on the field or really get a chance.
September 29th, 2010 at 2:05 am
What does that mean exactly that Jamarcus was “talented”. What “Talent” did he show? Talent is a natural ability or skill at something. Someone talented makes something tough look easy.
I didn’t see that in Jamarcus. People think a strong arm means talent? Or a fast runner is a talented receiver? No, that means naturally gifted, but you can have Shaq back there at QB and probably throw it the full length of the football field but would throw horribly and wouldn’t have vision to find open receivers. It wouldn’t make him a “great talent” at QB. It would make him a “strong arm”. I didn’t see much talent from Jamarcus. I didn’t see touch, or vision or pocket presence or accuracy.
What makes him “talented”?

We have all the pieces we need to dominate the Texans. We just need to put it together. The defense can’t allow mistake matchups like allowing a LB cover Andre Johnson. David Anderson sucks and Matt Schaub will surely make us pay. Hopefully we get Big John Henderson back in there for 25+ plays and stuff the run. We also need to stop making the mental mistakes, the false starts, etc. that you have in your control.
No freebee plays!
Last week’s poor kicking was an anomaly, and I feel that we have kicked Seabass around enough. He will rebound and make every kick this week. Still very disappointed with our special teams on both sides of the ball. The clock is ticking on John Fassel. He’s gotta be the worst ST coach in the NFL. I will throw down a few cold ones, the day he is fired.
Still the ST’s lacks continuity, and I am hoping that retaining Stevie Brown will allow that unit to gel a bit. This yoyo game with Stevie Brown wasn’t good for the team. Nick Miller is occupying a spot that a contributing player could actually use. Here I am looking at big Al, he needs to stop all this scholarship nonsense, and clean house for a game plan that involves the entire roster. This is frustrating but out of our control.
Al Davis runs things and he wont let you forget it.
On offense, I like the progression of Darius Heyward Bey and Louis Murphy. They are both running routes now, knowing that there’s plays being called for them and that they aren’t just clearing space like they did in the past to get Zach Miller open. Gradkowski is proving to be a big play QB, that is hit and miss, and you gotta love the yards per attempt. That philosophy is forcing the defensive coordinators into drop back zone coverage, and opening up running lanes for Darren McFadden to gash through with force. DMAC is a beast this year, and I expect a big day running and receiving this Sunday.
Keys to the game: Pressure Schaub and break down his pocket. Improve the safety coverage. Improve special teams from last week’s failing grade to a C minus. Continue the offensive downfield philosophy against the worst pass defense in the NFL.
Once we go into the 4th quarter with a lead, we should get a lot of loud support from the Raider faithful that will put them over the top.
My humble prediction: Raiders 31 Texans 27

Wednesday Predictions for Sunday’s game:
Texans RB Arian Foster has a big day. 125 yards and 2 TD’s
Andre Johnson is a non factor, but WR’s Walter & Jones each get TD’s
Matt Schaub ends up with 350 passing yards, 2 TD’s and 2 INT’s. he is sacked twice
Raiders RB Darren McFadden goes up over 100 yards again and has 2 rushing TD’s. Mike Bush also gets a 1-yard score
Louis Murphy is a non factor, but DHB gets a TD and Zach Miller catches 7 balls for 105 yards
Bruce Gradkowski throws for 290 yards, 1 TD and 2 INT’s. sacked 3 times
Janikowski goes 1 for 2 on FG’s. the one he makes is in the early first quarter, the one he misses is in the late 3rd …
End Result = Raiders 31-28

No Steroids: The Raiders opened their doors Tuesday to more than 100 high school student-athletes from four Oakland high schools for an anti-steroid training session. Raiders linebacker Sam Williams and strength and conditioning coach Brad Roll helped educate the students about the dangers of using steroids and human growth hormone.
Students from Skyline High, Davis Senior High, Mandela High and Media College Prep participated in the five-hour session. The program was borne of a $2.6 million grant from Redskins owner Daniel Snyder and his fellow 31 NFL owners in conjunction with the NFL players.

Looks like Ryan Mathews is back for our sloppy seconds against Arizona:
Ryan Mathews, RB SD
News: The San Diego Union-Tribune reports that Chargers RB Ryan Mathews said he was pain free after doing his most extensive workout Monday, and head coach Norv Turner said he is “hopeful” Mathews will return to practice this week heading into Week 4 against Arizona. “They let me get after it today,” Mathews said. “It didn’t hurt. I felt like my normal self.” Mathews was inactive Sunday at Seattle in Week 3 due to the sprained ankle suffered in Week 2 against Jacksonville. He was replaced in the lineup against the Seahawks by Mike Tolbert and Darren Sproles. He was originally diagnosed with a high ankle sprain, but Mathews said the injury was not as serious as originally thought.

First off any moron here who thinks Jason Campbell is the answer needs to get a labotomy. The guy is a statue, slow at reading defenses and unable to process information. Gradkowski has less physical tools but knows how to react quickly. I agree the offensive line is a major problem, but please tell the the Steelers line is significantly better. I rest my case!

#619… I feel we are a different team. Definitely will not be looked past. Teams will gameplan for us. Fact is our OLine is too weak for us to run a consistant offense and will prevent us from getting over the hump. Some points on Sundays game:
McFadden carries the ball as the number one back
Gradkowski will have a good day the chemistry between him and Murphy is great as it was last year.
DHB will amke key catches, and will exploit the secondary of Houston which is awful.
Defense comes up big with some blitz packages, listen Schaub is ok, not great and can easily be rattled.
Raiders will win.

I get that you really liked Capt Kirk, but who at #8 would you have drafted as a starting NT that would have made a difference?
I think you need to give McClain a break. For where he is right now, 3 games into his rookie year, he’s playing at least as good as Capt Kirk did last year. But that’s a pretty good thing when you consider he has upside, and Kirk was never going to improve. Kirk couldn’t line up the defense right half the time and was confused more often than not. I think McClain has a command of the defense and swagger that can lead us out of being piss poor one day. It takes some growing pains, but for what was available at #8 this year, I think we took the right guy.

Bills now listening to offers for Marshawn Lynch
0 Comment September 28 ESPN.com (scroll down) Share Article”Maybe now the Packers will make some progress in their oft-rumored efforts to swing a deal for disgruntled Buffalo Bills running back Marshawn Lynch.
An NFL source said Monday night that the Bills, who had rebuffed not only the Packers’ advances but any team’s inquiries about the availability of the 2007 first-round draft pick, have put out word that they will at least start listening to offers for Lynch. Whether the Packers will – or will try to – trade for Lynch before the Oct. 19 trade deadline remains to be seen.
Multiple reports in recent weeks have said that the Packers inquired about Lynch’s availability, and the source confirmed Monday night that the team had indeed contacted the Bills about him, even before Lynch ran 17 times for 64 yards against the Packers last week. Recently added Dimitri Nance was among the inactives Monday night.

My outlook on this team is a little muddled going forward because this year’s albatross, the loser that is the spoilt apple that is bringing his loser ways that is affecting the entire team is John Fassel.
Fire that loser Fassel. And cut Nick Miller. End scholarships.
Addition by subtraction. Winning only happens when you field a team of winners, and prune off the dead wood.

Agree Grads needs to stop throwing those sidearm rising sliders in traffic. He has Drew Brees heart, but he doesn’t have his accuracy. Else he’d be a franchise QB. Grads is better off throwing the ball away. There were a number of balls thrown in traffic against the Rams and Cards that would have been pick 6’s against better defenses. Last time we played the Texans was week 4 last year and they blew us out 29-6…
We had zero offensive production.
That game, like so many others, had a lop-sided score because our offense couldn’t move the ball at all. I don’t think our defense was to blame there. We held Slaton in check (obviously Foster looks far more beastly though).
With better production, it’ll look more like 08.

Controlling the run game will be key.
Kubiak is no idiot and if its one thing he knows, it’s how to game plan against Oakland.
I wouldn’t expect as much passing as they have been through 3 weeks.
Lots of stretch and power runs. Play action, try to burn Routt/Branch deep.

JFB: you’re trashing the Cardinals?
the team that just beat us and is tied for 1st place in thier division despite injuries to Fitz, Breaston & Doucet? Wells just came back and they are solid on ST as well
pick another target bro, seriously
Maybe the Rams?
oh wait. can’t do that either. they just creamed the Redskins, who you predicted would make the playoffs this year!

You can compare Grads to Gannon, but big difference — career completion % for Grads 53% (best so far 54.7) — Gannon 60.2% for his career — a bad season for him was 54.7% — that’s a lot for Grads to overcome — and, maybe it’s just me, but I think 6-foot-1 is a bit too short to play in today’s NFL
—————————————————–
Good point. I’m hit you guys with some numbers here in a bit. Grads at this point in his career, isn’t much different than Gannon.
Gannon didn’t achieve 60% completion until his 8th year in the league (when he played 2 games for KC). Ke completed 60% or better the following year, playing in 4 games.
It would be another four years after that before he hit 60 again (his second year with Oakland).
Gannon never achieved 60% as a full-season starter until coming here.
Gannon never had more than 16 TDs before coming to Oakland. Gannon’s TD-INT ratio was never better than 2-1 until coming to Oakland.
Gannon’s career won-loss record prior to Oakland was 31-27.

Yup, OC in Denver for several of their more succesful years.

Texans RB Arian Foster is #1 in rushing yards in the NFL, going up against a team that gives up 133 rushing yards per game …
anybody think the Texans might try to run the ball?
especially considering both Seymour & Henderson are banged up ???

Gradkowski is no Gannon. He’ll never be more than a 50% passer. He just isn’t blessed with raw talent. He’s a poor mans Drew Brees. And we are lucky to have him as a starter, when you look down on the bench and see what else we got.

September 29th, 2010 at 7:56 am
Bruce Gradkowski completes 50 percent of his passes, which ranks 30th in the NFL right now …
31st is Dakota’s boy Jimmy Clausen!
LOL
Bruce has a QB Rating of 71.8 , which ranks 21st in the NFL. Below guys like Seneca Wallace, Josh Freeman & Matt Cassel
September 29th, 2010 at 7:57 am
The Raiders are tied for second over in the NFL in yards allow at 260.7 per game
The Raiders and Jaguars are allowing 4.6yds per carry.
The Raiders are #2 overall in passing yards allowed per game 127.7ypg. Jaguars are #29 overal in passing yards allowed per game 289ypg.
RoMac must not play on any passing downs… are on the running downs that have allowed us to improve to 24th in the NFL… He must only play on the bad ones.
September 29th, 2010 at 7:58 am
Oh yeah… we are 24th in points allowed, they are 29th…

Matt Cassells rating before he carved the 49ers up was a 55.3… he had one good game as a chief and it was last week.

gradkowski started last week and somehow the news is slow to get too you people, but any who he lost, i hate to break it too you this way but he lost, now as i remember jason campbell got yanked after a game and a half cause he lost or was losing so if my math is correct that leaves gradkowski 2 qtrs before he gets the hook.
September 29th, 2010 at 8:02 am
Bruce has only been sacked 3 times, which puts him amongst the league leaders, lol.
September 29th, 2010 at 8:05 am
Bruce has an average of 7.4 yards per attempt, which puts him ahead of Tony Romo, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Carson Palmer, Brett Favre and about 10 other QB’s.
Bruce = down the field thrower which is why his completion % is so low.

Whos making excuses. I am giving you stats! If Grads has a 150 rating after carving up the worst pass D in football what are you going to tell me? It was a fluke against a weak D. Yet when I use the same argument I am making excuses?

That’s one legit reason JFB … But also he is not all that accurate and he’s too short (gets passes knocked down at the line)

who cares about comp % ?
The yards per attempt is what troubles defensive coordinators, that have to keep guessing. It keeps them from crowding the LOS.
I’d take the 50% passing and like the taste of that medicine, even the interceptions. Watching a checkdown passer throw 5 yard passes on third and 6 gets old. It also wears out the defense. You cant compete with the D on the field all the time. 3 and outs are as good as turnovers.

The only reason to care about comp. pct. is that because the elite NFL QBs can do both — yds per and solid pct.
September 29th, 2010 at 8:13 am
From Jason Cole:
Memo to Oakland Raiders wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey(notes): While it’s nice to see you playing better, stop begging for pass-interference penalties on every route. It only makes you look ridiculous. Over the past two games, Heyward-Bey has begged officials for interference calls at least five times … and that’s just in the times I’ve been watching the Raiders. Heyward-Bey did get one important interference call in the game at Arizona, but he didn’t have to beg for that one.

RRS, Cliffy was my childhood hero, the first poster I ever had was of Cliff Branch. It was a thing of beauty to watch him run those post stutter step routes when he’d just blow by the DB and the safety was caught napping. The big arm of Stabler and the deep bomb when one play at the start of a drive could change everything.
Cliff Branch is still my favorite all time Raider.
If I change my blog name, it will have something to do with CB21…
September 29th, 2010 at 8:22 am
RR, it was perfect … Fred would catch everything mid-range, so they’d start doubling him … and then Cliff would suddenly run by them on a sideline streak for a long TD … It was magic

If your occupation is ditch digger, and you work a regular work shift. Your job description might consists of lifting a shovel, operating a jack hammer, etc. You get a living wage for doing this back breaking work. If you are Jano, you get paid $250,000 a game to KICK FIELD GOALS!
When a kicker accepts a job, he should have a contract that mandates that the kicker be under the auspices of personal trainer and that he work 8 hours a day in the gym, with his personal trainer, so that he is condition to run down a kicker that gets past all the other members of the Special teams. If Jano were under such a contract the Raiders would not have lost the game on the opening kickoff. So why don’t the people that sign kickers include this stipulation in the contract.
If there is no work ethic, then they should be penalized or forced to work like any other citizen in this country. FAT Azz Jano should have prevented that TD!!
September 29th, 2010 at 10:31 pm
Jano made a major f/u on the opening ko and he made a major f/u on the last play of the game. And he sucked in between.
