DHB joins Murphy as questionable

Wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey joined Louis Murphy on the Raiders injury report with a groin strain.

Both were listed as questionable, although Cable remained optimistic they would be able to play against Houston Sunday.

“I think they’ll be all right,’’ Cable said.

Only one wide receiver on the roster other than Heyward-Bey and Murphy has caught a pass for the Raiders through three games. Johnnie Lee Higgins has one reception for two yards and Yamon Figurs, since waived, has two catches for 17 yards.

With Chaz Schilens listed as out with a knee injury, Higgins, Jacoby Ford and Nick Miller are the remaining Raiders receivers on the depth chart.

Listed as out for the Raiders other than Schilens were LG Robert Gallery (hamstring), LB Ricky Brown (hamstring), LB Travis Goethel (lower back) and CB Walter McFadden (hamstring).

Those were questionable along with the starting wide receivers are defensive tackles Richard Seymour (hamstring) and John Henderson (foot), safety Hiram Eugene (hamstring) and cornerbacks Chris Johnson (ankle) and Jeremy Ware (ankle).

Listed as probable were RG Cooper Carlisle (knee), LG Daniel Loper (knee), right tackle Langston Walker (elbow), RB Michael Bush (thumb), FB Marcel Reece (neck) and LB Quentin Groves (ribs).

More to come . . .

Could you imagine how different the tone in here would be if Janikowski’s kick was a yard to the right and goes in?

People would be talking up a division title and contract extensions for Bruce, McFadden and Cable. Instead, the ball slices out and we’re the worst team in the world. Hopefully the players don’t think like the fans.

BTW, same exact thing happened to Vinatieri a couple of years ago for the Colts against the Chargers.

All turncoats have no say amongst the Raider Nation. All suckers, whine and criers need not apply………..The Raider Nation is recruiting strong young men with a whole lot o soul. We need plenty of fire with a take no prisoner attitude.

Applications will be excepted upon passing the test of manhood and a willingness to seek and destroy all haters of the shield. Must have a backbone face your fears chest out head up.

We need a capable man to develope a criterion detailing requirements to become a Charter member of the Raider Nation. If you are that man please step foward. Those requirements will be reviewed and voted upon by the board of the Raider Nation and sanctioned. When you meet thse requirements you will recieve a certificate of completion as an official member of the Raider Nation.

This document must be completed by Nov 20th 2010 prior to the Steelers game. “Raider Mort” the Chairman of the Board must recieve and present the document to the board for review. Thanks in advance to those willing to draw up this document.

Any nation needs a governing body and administration and laws, do your part for the Nation.

I watched a skins/eagles game from 2007 and Campbell looked really good… with lots of time to read and throw.

Until this line improves or rather, is improved, Bruce should be the man.

If AJ sits this game out for the Texans our chances of winning are much greater. Would be nice to play SD for a chance to end up 3-2.

  • Where did everybody go ?? Way to clear out the Blog TJ from Mountain View

  • Carl Weathers

The skins/eagles game was on NFLN today, I don’t have collections of old non raider games. I do have a Raiders vs. Seahawks from ’89 on VHS though!

The only way Hayneworsth comes in is if Washington pays. He is a certifiable bust.
I couldn’t believe it but it’s true what I’m reading from many long time Raider fans and bloggers who are predicting not only a loss to the Texans, but a blow out. And if this injury bug that seems to come up every year is true then we might as well expect the blow out.
If this loss of faith from the faithful is evident by the 4th game, what are the expectations for game 10, it just doesn’t look good.
There could be 48K Raider fans at the Colosseum, highly dubious though. I don’t believe there’s much optimism left after seeing the team play this 3 games.

Gradz is much better than Campbell, but Gradz is definitely not the answer.
The offense works well between the 20s and fizzles in the red zone because of an undisciplined line, added to an unimaginative, stale, and predictable play-calling that plays for field goals.

The defense is relatively young and the best players are rooks, it should hold its own until the dummies predictably will raise their ugly head to allow big penalties or big plays. The Texans have a highly effective offense and should definitely exploit the youngsters.

Other than Lechler, the rest of the special teams can’t get themselves out of their own way to either stop a long return or create one, and since the offense is play for field goals Janiko should get his and miss some but not to make any difference since like everybody is predicting, this game should be a Texans blow out.

The Raider’s main problem is not going anywhere. Or sell or move or anything like it.
Cable should go but could continue to talk himself for a whole season, and regardless of record, he is a walking lame duck, emphasize on lame. He knows he won’t be back, not that anybody expects Cable to lead ducks into water, much less football players into winning.
Hue has the potential now but he has his offense clamped down by the antiquated Raider playbook.

  • With Bo?

  • priesttj

    Lynn let’s be civil now.

  • Nnamdi21

    210. Special teams are a concern with alot of teams. we need to shore that stuff up. I wonder how much of it comes from missing Ekejuiba?

I know we miss that Schnieder guy. Too bad he was a Kiffin hire…

  • Just kidding TJ you were one of the better callers on Pete’s Show.

  • Nnamdi21

    210. Grads had his moments against the Cards. Great opening drive but mismanaged the clock and blew some pretty simple reads too.

He is NOT the be all end all but he at least moves the ball and scores on ocassion.

O line not as horrid as thought but not great.

We better hope Loper stays upright at least till Gallery gets back

  • Priest, still here, just working on a manfesto!

  • priesttj

Pete was a one and only, man I miss him. We had a great relatinship.

  • Scoring in the Red Zone would cure a lot of ills on this squad. Mc Fadden has a hot hand and should be utilized more in the RZ. I don’t see any reason not to. Getting a lead would be nice to see the defense play down hill.

  • Carl Weathers

    Ya with Bo Jaaaaaaaaaaaaackson!

  • Manifesto!*

Well said Chris. I have been laughing my @ss off the last couple of days.
The negative discourse has been a hoot, especially considering the previous weeks discussions. Now it is all doom and gloom.

  • What happened to my man Wimbley getting zero recorded tackles, assists. He seemed to be around the ball enough to have assisted at least once. I hope he gets several sacks on sunday.

  • PurpleDrank81

Texans run a Zone Blocking System and hey guess what? Thats what we run….The defense plays against it everyday in practice..They better be ready and stop the run…

  • Normally, when the Raiders got off the bus, it was Gloom and Doom too who we were playing! When did this change, Kell need not reply…..

  • Carl Weathers

Nnamdi21, Cooper was a real good special teamer too. Shoulda kept Ekejiuba for one of the WR’s that never see the field.

  • Just Fire Baby

All right, well Bruce gets no WR’s, a sub-par coach and a pathetic O-line.

    Go get em buddy!!!!!

  • PurpleDrank81

Im looking for a big game from this defense man..There missin there LT and There main WideOut has a Bum Wheel….Lets bring the heat and put Schaub on his back…

  • I feel better about this team than any in the last 6 years. And that aint saying a whole lot. But , at least they have a chance to win, when before there was no logical reason to believe they could compete at an NFL level.

  • Here’s a novel idea, suit up Cable guy, put him on the O-line he so reveres, and tell him the guy in front of him is Randy, and tell him to explode!

  • Amen Purp

More news on AJ from Rotoworld…

Andre Johnson is undergoing platelet-rich plasma therapy on his high ankle sprain in an effort to play in Week 4 against the Raiders.

The procedure takes blood platelets (healing mechanisms) from one part of a patient’s body and injects them into the injured area in order to expedite faster healing. Its efficacy is unpredictable, but PRP did allow Troy Polamalu and Hines Ward to play in Super Bowl XL. It didn’t go as well for Giants DT Chris Canty last year. The approach does confirm that Johnson is trying to play, though we remain skeptical that he’ll be active, let alone effective.

  • PurpleDrank81

What when did he do this Carl?

  • Carl Weathers

    I guess today…

  • Carl, when we had swagger, we called it whiskey, worked every week, so far as I know, it hasn’t been banned. All Raider teams played hurt, we just didn’t tell anybody….And won!

  • Carl Weathers

If AJ is out Nnamdi can shut down Walter, Howard or Huff on Daniels and focus on the run and QB! Just Win Baby!

  • Too bad AJ isn’t full speed but that’s breaks . Nnamdi and Johnson have had some great mach ups in the last 5 years.

  • Ask the Snake!

  • PurpleDrank81

I dont think he’s gonna be able to play if he did it today and if thats the case…Its make things even easier when it comes to stopping the run

  • At least the field will be non baseball

  • PurpleDrank81

It probally would be an advantage id AJ plays…Playin on a bum wheel in the dirt would be hard…Lets go back to some of the old tricks lets flood the field

  • Going to the bar….. nite nite

  • sirblitzalot

Don’t get too dejected everybody. This may be is one of those “trap” games the the mafia own where every gambler circles Texans on their parley and end up losing it all. The whole ship sinks b/c the Raiders, against all odds, upset the Texans!

Or this team is like the 39ers (I don’t want to adulterate this blog with their real name) folding up their tent after Arizona upset

Or everyone is either trying to avoid being involved in the tsunami that is headed toward Oakland, by pulling their hamstrings.

TC, “Yeh, that’s it! Okay, here is the game plan: You alI pulled your hamstrings so that is why we lost. That’s my story and I am sticking to it.”

  • Jmackraider12

I dont usually agree with priest at all, infact i dont like alot of his raider philospohy’s..BUT.. when the raiders get going at home, and the crowd gets into it(even though its not a big crowd has of lately) It makes an impact. If we have early success(escpecially with our defense).. the crowd will get into the game and we will play well.. Put this on the RECORD GUYS..I believe the RAIDERS WILL WIN THE BALL GAME..I REPEAT THE RAIDERS WILL WIN THE BALL GAME…

  • Dude

Another Raider fan predicting a victory without the slightest bit of reasoning. LOL!! Only Raider fan

  • Jmack, want to buy an Island? J/K

  • PurpleDrank81

Im gonna stay away from predicting this game….Lets see how that goes

  • We’ll squeek this one out at home, won’t be pretty, but that’s the way we play!

  • priesttj

It’s that crowd Jmack that inspired me to name the Stadium the Blackhole when the Raiders are on the field. I was sitting in the pressbox and the crowd was so loud the stadium was shaking and even the media got caught up it was like a blackhole that sucked you in wether you liked it or not. I called the Pete Franklin show and dubbed it the Blackhole on his show. It stuck and the rest is histroy.

  • Priest, your call on the score?

  • Mines posted….

  • Jmackraider12

But has i said, if our defens in the first half plays real well and our crowd gets goin we can do it. Hopefully its one of thoughs days John Marshall sends the dogs at the right times and we shake up shaub, DUDE, my reasoning is that we have one of the most talented young teams in the league and we can spark at any moment, im not afraid of any team with the defense we have, cuz we have attitude on that defense, and they smell blood when that black hole gets goin…BOYZ, we lost last game by a fieldgoal, dont matter, were home, texans are a good team, but they are not the best team in the league, THEY HAVENT PROVED SH*T YET FELLAS!! That leaves us and them on the field, nothin else…and talent wise, WE DO HAVE MORE.. WE just gota get rowdy… JUST WIN BABY!!!
