Report sheds light Johnson’s ankle
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Friday, October 1st, 2010 at 6:42 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Tom Cable said he’s certain Andre Johnson will play Sunday when the Raiders host the Houston Texans.
An AOL Fanhouse report suggests Johnson’s sprained ankle is serious enough to be getting special treatment.
Namely, “platelet-rich plasma therapy.”
Not sure what that is other than what I just read in the above link, or how effective it is.
But if I’m the Texans, it’s Week 4 and I’m playing the Raiders, Johnson is taking the week off.

Tom, rule #1 of being a head coach. Don’t be concerned about the opposition’s players. Get your own players prepared and ready to dominate for a full sixty minutes. No excuses!

Hey as much as i like to belive the refs give us(the raiders) too much ish..(and they do)..they historicaly and lately have given us calls(last wk)…(wk b4)…we just found a way to lose lol(sucks i no)..but i do have a feeling this game we will have to fight threw about 10 penalties (110yd)…all coming from the left side of our line lol..and maybe from carlisle too.. But sometimes we get into games where the other team gets ALOT of calles up until they way end..lol..you guys know what im talking about..and then we will get a call to give us a shot and making up for 10 B.S. calls prior..except in the playoffs thats when we get dicked over lol..

Jmack, The only way we got those calls was because they were so blatent, and on film, that in this recession, even NFL Refs could lose their jobs by screwing the Raiders. In past years, they were promoted! Blame the Dem’s…..and that woman from Cali in particular……
October 1st, 2010 at 7:12 pm
Sorry Spartacus, I’m from an old RAIDER era, where we didn’t care who was lining up against us, because we were BIGGER, BETTER and BELIEVED!

Jerry, is this kind of theropy accepted by the NFL? Kind of sounds like Armstrong getting treated for cancer, and is now a doper? Sounds fishy to me, can you break a bigger story on this?
October 1st, 2010 at 7:16 pm
Jambo, I’m from that same era. But don’t forget, those Raider teams worked hard and were always prepared to beat any opponent, including the refs.

You’re right Spartacus, ahh for the good old days!
October 1st, 2010 at 7:18 pm

I dont agree at all. You game plan accordingly.
If you are a defensive coordinator, is your game plan the same for Andre Johnson as it would be for
1. Dorin Dickerson
2. Kevin Walter
3. Jacoby Jones
4. David Anderson
Those are the other active WR on the roster.
Between man, doubles, stunts and zones. This game is all about game planning and preparation for your opponent and their weapons.

Why we talkin politics on a raider blog bruh??lol..and why would we blame the dems for recession, they didnt screw us, the man that was in charge of the country for the last decade screwed us…dude.. the raiders are the definition of blue collar brother…were always getting screwed..u know why?? I dont want to get this deep but…yeah..The NFL screws us cuz AL Davis has more balls then all of them..we are the underdogs that can be feared on any given day, we are different, and for that, we are looked down upon..but deep in everyones mind, they all know that one day(now)..when the bully wakes up from its long rest, we find we are strong and can take em all on.. No dont blame the dems, and if you arent making over 200k a year then you shouldnt blame the dems either, in that case u would be the one to blame..we arent like that dude, were not george bush…we are young and crazy, and considering the Oakland Raider fan base is THE MOST ethnicly diverse in THE LEAGUE, then you should re-evaluate what you just said, blaming the dems would be like blaming the raiders in a way…dont be like that bro, we are blue collar, we are tough…not conneticut blue bloods sitting on thrones…(F.Y.I. Bush was sitting with robert craft in the owners box during the tuck rule game laughin and drinkin with his boy…) We are not that, we are rebels bro..

I have to say that with the poor pass defense that the Texans have I would go after then thru the air. I would almost say use the pass to set up the run not the other way around in this case. DHB will have his breakout game-110 yards and a TD- print that!

October 1st, 2010 at 8:08 pm
HairyBush i sure hope so man, and i do agree with your philosophy about this game, i would love to see us open it up with the pass….Now is it just me, or is our team designed to play more of a spread type offense…I mean, we can run out of the shot gun very well, we got fast talented receivers, two backs that can catch, a great tight end…When we line up from the shotgun we have succes, but we obviously need to run from under center to keep our play action alive(for miller)..But what you guys think abuot that??

————————-
Why do you think they will take us lightly? they pounded us in 3 out of 4 games in our previous meetings. It would be nice if they did, I just don’t see it happening. I read all the smoke coach Kubiak is blowing up the Raiders rear ends. He goes on and on how they are the #2 defense. Anyone who looks deeper at the #’s can see the more important #’s are we give up a lot of points and other teams are 7 for 8 in the red zone. What good is it to stop a team for minimal yards only to let them score on you? I bleed silver and black but I think this has the makings of a typical cable faceplant, and we lose by at least 2 td’s. I hope to be wrong, but if you look at Tom Cable’s history with us he seems to average a blowout (for the other team) around every 3 games. Here’s to hoping the Raiders come out with a fire lit underneath them!

Platlet rich plasma treatment is an attempt to spend up the healing of an injured joint. You donate about 30 cc of your blood (few tubes there) and the blood is spun to separate out the platelets. Then the platelets are “mashed” to open them up. The idea is the products from the platelets contain goodies that will help the joint heal faster. The mashed platelets are then injected into the joint. The verdict is out how effective this is, but getting really popular for athletes who need to heal fast. Tiger used it.

I think most importantly we have to hope Grads makes good decisions with the ball. I am a Grads supporter and love his fire, but I must have said to myself 5 times last Sunday, WOW that should have been intercepted. I understand he likes to play on the edge but some of the throws were definetley quesionable. That being said I will still take Grads as starter over the other options, I also respect the fact that he tries to get the wideouts involved and is not afraid to throw the ball deep. I would like to see more bootlegs and plays where he can use his mobility-just sayin

October 1st, 2010 at 8:31 pm
I’ve got nothing against JC perosnally, but Grads has the fearlessness we need right now.
I’ll concede he takes chances, but look at it this way: consider the analogy of a shortstop with a .999 fielding percentage that has absolutely no range and never risks a throw for the tough double play or throw to first. Looks great on paper, but will never even attempt the difficult or spectacular play that might win a game.

Quarterback Bruce Gradkowski failed tryouts with Houston Texans
October 1 Oakland Tribune “Quarterback Bruce Gradkowski’s search for a home in the NFL took him from Tampa Bay to Cleveland and St. Louis before he arrived in Oakland early last year. Along the way, he attempted to hook on with the Houston Texans team that comes to Oakland on Sunday.
Twice in 2008 Gradkowski worked out for the Texans. The Texans opted the first time to stick with Matt Schaub and Sage Rosenfels. Gradkowski suffered an injury during his second workout and wasn’t offered a contract.
“That was a rough year for me,” Gradkowski said. “Now I’m back on track and excited to go into this game.”
A few months later, Gradkowski was signed by the Raiders and worked his way into the starting lineup last season and, again, this season. The Texans ultimately signed Craig Nall.
“Every time he has gotten a chance, whether with Gruden (Jon, former Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach) or now (the Raiders), he’s done some good things,” Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. “The fact that he can move around and make plays off schedule is something everybody in this league hopes they have in a quarterback. October 1st, 2010 at 9:08 pm
Gannon’s talent didn’t manifest itself until he came to Raiders – in his early 30’s. Prior to that, it didn’t matter what manner of feces he was.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:09 pm
Go ahead and throw Russell in there and you can move your boy down to 5th. But hey….thanks for playin! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
October 1st, 2010 at 9:10 pm
Whos to say Grad dosnt have talent…he can make throws, he cant throw a 65 yard ball on a frozen rope like J-russ but he makes up for it with timing and anticipation, obvious gannon had a better build, but u cant call us dumb for rooting for grad, the guy who beat teams like cinci and pitt(and shoulda beat the chiefs if dhb didnt drop ball into db’s hands)…all the other guys couldnt do anything, gradkowski is like comparing jeff garcia to ryan leaf(leaf being walter, brooks, culpepper, mccown etc..) ur beat

Difference between Gannon and Gradkowski…..Gannon had talent.
——————–
It would be fair to say that if someone like….say Grads for instance was a “student” of the game and stayed with the same team and worked on his chemistry with young recievers as well as being a “gym rat”, it would not be out of the realm of possibilty that he could potentially be a QB who makes it work with what he does has . Even if he isn’t blessed with a Jameatloaf cannon arm. When it is all said and done if Grads does enough to win some games and remain the stater there is potential for him to evolve just like DHB and the rest of the team. Am I saying this is going to happen? not neccasarily. but to put someone down because they are hopeful of what could be is less than intelligent.

I think it’s very premature to say that Grads is better than Campbell. So far he is performing in this offense much better but to say he’s a better player overall is at this point unfair. Grads is still learning and growing he has a penchant for very serious mistakes. He plays the game a bit too error prone for my taste.
Campbell has shown in his career that he can be very productive and he’s very good in the redzone over his career. IMO he just needs to get comfortable in this system and on this team. Time will tell if he or Grads is the longterm answer.

answer a few ??s for me then tough guy.
1) How many teams has Gradkowski been on?
2) How many times has he started the year as the number 1?
3) How many TDs does he have in his career?
4) How many wins?
5 How many Pro Bowls?
6) How many times has he been cut?
Just give me one word answers for all 6 questions.

Is Campbell the more gifted athlete? Probaly. That being said my question is how long do we wait? I genuinely feel the Raiders need to do whatever they can to get some wins now. Some may say to see the big picture and I respect that. I definetley see the big picture and I am smart enough to know that if you put together a winning program other things start to fall into place, like signing good free agents and not having to overpay for them. Players will actually want to come here. I can give several more examples of what winning now would do for this franchise but I’m sure you get the point. My Question is how long do you want to wait for Campbell or anyone for that matter to get this thing turned around? If Grads wins games as much as he sends my blood pressure thru the roof with his up and down play I say stick with him. As a Raider fan I just want to see a W at the end of the day!
October 1st, 2010 at 9:27 pm
i wont answer questions that arent relevent to the actual issue that is being discussed..how many starts, or how many teams or pro bowls does not apply to a player who hasnt been a constant starter his whole career.. Those are dumb questions..and are not relevent to bruce gradkowski and more importantly US FANS right now…

Hrads has to learn and play better, if he does he has a real chance of keeping that job. But the way he played vs AZ wont cut it longterm in fact I doubt he”l keep the starting job more than a couple of weeks. It’s up to him to get better or he’ll get benched………….period

————————-
Why the Raiders lost to the Cards
1)Special Teams, Jano 3 misses & 102 yard K.O. return TD
2) penalties
3) questionable play calling
Grads did not make or break that game, he made plays when he had to and put his team in a position to win. It’s not his fault that his polish counterpart decided to stand around on the sideline like a useless mule instead of practicing on the sideline for what would have been a game winning kick.
October 1st, 2010 at 9:48 pm
Did he win?
October 1st, 2010 at 9:51 pm
Agreed Priestt, but, would we even be bringing that up if janikowski makes the FG. Ill admit he didnt play his best and i was gettin pretty pissed myself during the game, but on the final drive when it counted most, he delivered(3@9 and 4@10 converted) and got us in FG range(and if there is no PASS-INTERFERANCE on DHB that could have been a TD, that DB literally saved the game)..but ill take a guy who plays shaky and conducts game winning drives all day, just like he did against cincy last year and just like he did against PITT Both way better teams that the ZONA team we played last week..riddle me that

Grads was trying too hard last week, that’s all. He was too geeked up and trying to be the hero on every play.
But he’s a stand up guy.
I like Jason Campbell as a person. He’s a humble, personable, stand up guy too.
I wish the best for both of our QB’s as individuals.
When Campbell gets his shot again, hopefully he sees the kind of energy and on the field leadership that is needed to become a consistent winner.

I agree that I want more out of him as far as consistancy and overall decisions. BUT, at this point I’ll take my chances with the guy who seems like he is really giving his all out there and wants to win, as opposed to the guy who checksdown enough to not lose but not win either. Think about it, a guy who plays on the edge will lose some games for you, but I believe he will win more than lose in the long run. It’s a long season, let’s see how this plays out. As I said before I just want a W at the end of the day. If for some crazy reason J. Campbell comes out like a madman lighting it up, great. I say he should have been fired up in week 1 of all games, instead he looked like a zombie. How can you argue with that? It’s not like it was week 10 and the Raiders were out of the playoff hunt and he was beat to a pulp, what’s his excuse for being so lifeless?. The reality is it was week 1, how do you not get pumped for a season opener for your new team. Don’t you want to prove people wrong among other things? I challenge you to give a logical arguement defending Campbell’s lack of inspiration to say the least. Humor me please. Like I said If your not up for week 1, well I don’t know what to say. His actions or lack thereof spoke volumes.
October 1st, 2010 at 10:02 pm
Gannon didnt stay with the patriots cuz they wanted to convert him to a DB, so i guess that makes him bad too? Maybe grad was cut cuz he didnt fit kubiaks system? Do you know that has well?

October 1st, 2010 at 10:02 pm
Trust me my friend even if we were to win that game Grads would be under scrutiny by astute fans and coaches because the game shouldn’t have been close. In fact I think Seabass saved his butt by not making that kick and bringing the focus on him instead of Grads.
Coaches do not overlook the mistakes he was making even if he wins. Because they know he’s not performing well. He cannot play like that and continue to win games. No more than someone that runs into the street in traffic constantly will eventually get hit. He has to play better………period

I think Campbell was way under par, but I also think he can play much better than what we saw week1. In fact I know he can I’ve seen enough of him to know that he’s a much btter player than that.

It has everything to do with Grads to put it simply. The fact is I would rather see some energy on the field.
I didn’t say grads was the long term answer. What I did say is if Campbell can’t get hyped and ready to play for the season opener of all games, where do you go from there? being a realist Grads may not be our 10 year starter but he is what the Raiders need right now, which is life. You really haven’t answered my question, What excuse can you make for Campbell? It’s understandable to not know some plays but why no energy? I have watched him in Washington and yes he can be half way decent at times but, Is he a leader of men? Can he Inspire? Is he driven? Maybe if he worked in another job his internal motivation or confidence would be fine, it probaly won’t cut it in the NFL. I am a Raider fan and If I were wrong I would immedietly man up and admit where I was wrong. I just see this dragging on and not going anywhere. agree to disagree

Gannon came to Oakland at the perfect time. He had the right coaches, the right system and the right players to match his skill set.
Having said that, give Gradkowski 3 Pro Bowl offensive linemen (Barrett Robbins, Lincoln Kennedy, Steve Wisniewski) and two HOF caliber Wide Receivers (Tim Brown and Jerry Rice) and I’m sure he would turn alot more heads too.

His release ain’t that quick.
The intangible with Grads is he makes players better. More focused and eager to compete.
He blew some key reads and missed some throws that could’ve changed the game last week.
Not surprising.
He missed alot of last year with knee injuries and this off seasons camp with a torn pec.
Hardly worked with the wides at all and suprised it dodn’t show more than it did.
Oakland probably won’t be able to run the ball as well this week end.
Houston’s got the LBs with or with out R.O.Y.d boy.
Grads will likely need to move the ball thru the air WITHOUT his top 2 WRs.
DMC has an opportunity to prove he’s a multiple threat in the beig Leages like he was in college.
If I was Hue Jackson, I’d unleash him.

As a long time fan I think it’s cool u guys are predicting Raider win and that u actually believe they’ll win 7 or 8 games this year, but i just don’t see it. I have grown weary of wishing, hoping, and getting excited about the possibility of Oakland becoming something more than just the NFL’s favorite punchline. I’m just tired of all the false hope.
C’mon guys. We don’t even have any receivers. The guys starting are guys that won’t even be able to run proper routes for lack of real game action. There will be no chemistry between Grads and the WR’s and u can only go to Miller so often. Then, it’s on to SanDiego, who we NEVER defeat.
I wish I could believe something different like u guys, but the problem is they actually do have to play the games; and when it comes to that, all the Raiders do is find a way to lose. Sometimes big, sometimes cuz they choke at the end, but the end is always the same.
It pains me to see the Raider Nation, with such loyal fans, have to endure this torture. That being said, I don’t see Oakland winning another game this year.

Full ride for football to Eastern Washington University. Nice try though…..
The Raiders arent 5-11…..yet. This is a 5 or 6 win team.

The reason I come here anymore is because of some faint hope that I will see something major has happened; such as Al Davis dying, or deciding to hire someone who knows what they are doing that might nake us something resembling a real franchise. I come hoping to see a headline saying “Cable fired! Quality NFL coach hired who vows to rebuild Raiders quickly” Or just ANYTHING that might give me REAL hope that they will actually WIN, and maybe (god forbid) have a respectable record.
I have lost all hope. I’m just venting. I know I’m just talking to myself, but in some weird way it’s cathartic.

nice lie though….i wont though, i was the 4th string qb who held the clipboard in highschool, i wasnt big or fast enough to run the option so there was no spot to play, now i go to temple university and play in a few 7 on 7 full contact leagues as QB. Never had a full ride..saying that this is a 5 to 6 win team is very possible, judging by years past you have all the evidence in the world to prove your point. I on the other hand think this could be a turning point for our team, 1. we have a qb who is better then J-RUSS(all i ask for is a guy who puts in his film work and practices, and we got it) and a solid surrounding cast..im not giving up this early..good nigth fellas, after the 1 win comment i really must leave..nice argument Dude, i expect to read more from you, since im going to sleep i guess you could say you win..good job buddy..

ArmChair I am not interested in providing you or anyone else with an excuse for Campbell. That’s Campbell issue. If he can’t get it done I don’t want him here……….period
I am not Jason Campbell’s Lawyer I’m a Raider loking for a quality QB be it Grads, Campbell or Boller or someone else. That’s my point why do you insist that I defend Campbell?? I didn’t like what is I saw from him that’s all that matters

My “lie” is easily proved.
Solis surrounding cast?? Okayyyyyyyyyyy

Kind of humorous watching the flaky back and forth.
When the discussion is what could happen? It’s us, or we.
When it’s about the bad play? it’s they, or the Raiders.
al davis was asked, back in the early 80’s about “some fans are really upset your moving their team”
al’s reply “it’s not their team, it’s my team”
just in case some of you were wondering

Priest I don’t recall putting you in a position to feel like you have to defend Campbell. All I said was that he was a stand up guy and seemed like a really decent person.
I’m not sure what post of mine you’re referring to.

We do have a much better team than we had last year. It should(ul) mean more wins, but the game in Arizona shows that even if we have better stats we still will find a way to lose or not take advantage of it.
I mean our offense is 2X better this year practically and our defense is definitely improved.
We SHOULD be able to win 8 games, but there is someone/something in the Organization that actively suppresses the players. And I don’t think it’s Al Davis…it’s someone whispering in his ear. (John Herrera? He came back in the early 80’s with a greater role the teams basically have sucked since except for the Gruden years).
Also, I’ve never seen a team with more key injuries or mistakes than ours. I mean Nmadi is the only one who has been pretty much injury free that is a descent player. Chaz looks good…gets injured. Once Dmac starts playing well….ouch. Gallery finally last year starts playing well….hurt.
Henderson plays a good game….then can’t play the next. Semour almost always hurt here (but never was in NE). Look at the injury report. Almost always the players who are good that get injured and the ones that suck that stay in.
Now that Murphy and DHB look descent they both get hurt and are Questionable. So basically our top 3 WRs are injured now. Any other team like that?

evening nation,
this campbell/gradkowski discussion still raging, it’s been what almost three weeks??? if i was campbell i wouldn’t want to play until we find a left tackle, because mario is a proven qb killer

i think we are a few big p;ays and a player away from being very good, but then again i think the same thing every year about this time…one good player on defense and one on offense, schillens maybe? and wimbley ? maybe seymour can pull a reggie white for us. if grads can deliver a couple of bombs that will certainly help but if we are relying on grads to carry us,,,it ain’t going to happen….

This game will be won or lost on the first play. We fans are “The 12th Man”, so we have to be in the stadium, in our seats warming up our vocal cords.
Then, assuming we win the toss, the decision TC has to make is:
1) Kick off to them!
Lamar Houston forces a fumble
2) Put the game in the defenses hand. (Shut them down 3 and out!)
3) Raiders fake a h/o to Dmac and while dhb flies down the left sideline beating their incompetent db’s
4) Jano MAKES the point after
5) Crowd goes wild (but everybody has got to be there-not just staggering in)
6) The noise DEEEE FENSE is so loud we can’t even hear Greg Papa and Tom Flores on the Radio.
7)”False start Texans” 1st and 15 form the 35:
9) Raider get the ball back on the 20
10) DMAC breaks one, two, three!!! tackles and races into the black hole (where I will be sitting- in the front row 1) directly into our arms and gives me the ball!
11) GAME OVER RAIDERS WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Raiders fans MUST ARRIVE EARLY. The defense has to told them to 3 and out.
