Raiders revive oldie but goodie

Former Chiefs and Chargers coach Marty Schottenheimer, a Raider-hater from way back, fielded a quesiton recently on his Sirius radio show about the Raiders inability to finish and resurrected an old theme, which was dutifully printed and placed in the locker room where players could read it.

With some words in bold face and underlined for emphasis, it read:

“The one constant yuo can count on in playing the Raiders is that they don’t finish. They don’t finish plays and they don’t finish games. I always told my players that if they keep playing hard against the Raiders, (the Raiders) would eventually fold. That is why I knew we would always win.

That is still the perception in the league today.”

He left out the part about “hitting them in the mouth.”

More to come .. .

Interesting piece about how Atlanta turned their fortunes around very quickly. So I ask you, if Al’s still got it, why can’t he duplicate this success?

    How can you scapegoat Cable

He has no control of roster
    No control over his staff
No control over schemes they play

I’m no Cable fan, but get real.
    =============================================================

Cable benched campbell davis is big fa. I know it was hu jacks idea but cable has final say. Cable benched then cat jafatass, davis number one pick. he cleaned out mal contents. he has complete control over this roster.

The zbs is cable’s scheme, he had evry opportunity to run it with out interference from davis. No control over schemes?

Some people on this blog like to push ideas that have been rumored yet seldom proven.

Actual good news, Shaughnessy is starting at RE finally

  • CJ Legend 34

I can’t argue with that. He does make plays but he also seems to make bone head plays at the wrong time during the course of the came. Sometimes he tries so hard to make a play that he gets his self in trouble. Brett Farve does the same thing but his talent and arm usually make up for it. Note that I said “usually.” Grads needs to do a better job of putting the ball down field in rythm but how do you do that with a line that makes you roll right every game because of a weak pocket.

Love the guys heart. I just don’t think he has the “it” factor. Sorry!

Well I told Debo repeatedly last year that Bruce Gradkowski would be on NFL rosters long after Jamarcus’ career ended.

I say the same thing for Campbell. He is about UFL worthy, and being that Gradkowski has serious value as backup, I see him being in the league for the same amount of time as a Todd Collins, so he has about another 8-10 years in the league.

    Anyone want to bet?

  • sirblitzalot

DMAC (regarding HJ) in an interview prior to the Houston game: “He is all over the field, even pumping up the defense. He is a good coach that get’s us fired up.” Really? If that isn’t a spark by a key player to replace Cable with JH, then what was the point of that comment?

All this discussion about our defense reminds me of a great piece of footage I once saw of John McKay, the guy who coached those early Tampa Bay teams.

He’s standing on the sidelines and says to himself, “We can’t stop a run or a pass. Otherwise we’re in great shape.”

That’s gone through my mind a lot lately. And I’ll probably be posting that little anecdote a few more times before the season is over, sadly.

Jerry said league sources abound told him Henderson had nothing left in the tank. Looks like the Rams game was his last dance, and 20 plays was about 16 too many for him.

And teams know that, so communication can break down sometimes, just because we’ll see what other teams in the league won’t see, because of the nature of our defense, so it doesn’t matter what week it is.

  • Nnamdi21

The Raiders have actually been playing harder and more consistently. They had a chance to come back in the Texans game had Murph not dropped one and should’ve beaten the Cards too.

This is motivational fodder but Ihope it works.

Watching the game last night and Seymour’s pretty frikkin good.

Too bad Hendu couldn’t be in. Kelly looks washed up. With Hendu and Seymour they rarely get pushed off the line. Kelly’s always about 2 yds off the LOS at the snap.

Like Sapp when he lost all that weight, like Sands when he lost all that off season weight, Kelly’s over.

Observers have known this for years.

We’ve seen the constant turnover of coaches, including the trade of the only winning coach the franchise has had since returning to Oakland in 1995. We’ve seen the abysmal drafts, choices made at the owner’s insistence. We’ve seen the misguided energy, the undermining, the players on “scholarship,” the petty bickering and the subjective treatment of individuals on and off the field, as well as those beyond the organization.

Above all, we’ve seen the losses come in waves, 64 in the 84 games, followed by Davis’ clever but transparent attempts to dodge responsibility for the decline of an organization formerly known for its unsurpassed might.

If we were in a Nascar Race, and we blow a head gasket in the first quarter. You would run the rest of the race just because you started with a good engine, it just blew a head gasket! You would bring the car into the pit and change the head gasket immediately and get back in the race.

Can anybody honestly say that Cable is capable out coaching any of the Real HC in this league? He can’t outcoach the bottom dwellers! So change the freakn head gasket and lets get back in the race! NOW!

Heard lacks technique but dear gawd, he can’t be worse than Alford?!

Know some of you don’t read it but Raider Nation Station has some good points no ones really talking much about like how WR/KR Yamon Figurs can make the team, play in games and then be ditched.
Then Alfraud plays in games, cost us points and games and then gets ditched.

Who’s making the personnel decisions that are so bad?!

If i was Coach Cable I would put those quotes on loud speakers all over 1220 Harbor BayParkway. Locker Room, Admin offices, Coaches office….EVERYWHERE! Play them over and over again, up until the kickoff. Play them in the stadium up until the pre-game introductions. Play it in the locker room during half-time. And tell the team that they are going to hear this and every other negative comment from every Raider Hater, Ex-Player and anyone else until they put together two complete games in a row. Players want to act like little children and get punched in the face by other teams and not fight back then they need to be treated like children until they produce.

    2. We have not seen Campbell? WTF have you been watching earlier in the year? 6 qtrs under JC vs 6 qtrs under Grad. What was the diff and who do you think had more reps with the first unit all summer?

    3. Backing to timing, you admitted that JC has no rythm yet you dare talk about timing?
