Jackson happy it didn’t work out in S.F.
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Thursday, October 14th, 2010 at 4:31 pm in Oakland Raiders.
News, notes, quotes and observations Thursday as the Raiders prepare to face the San Francisco 49ers:
— The San Francisco 49ers were serious enough about Hue Jackson as a potential offensive coordinator they brought him back for a second interview.
The general perception when Jimmy Raye was eventually hired was that several candidates had pulled themselves out of the running because coach Mike Singletary’s view of how the offense should be run was too conservative.
“It was a position I seriously did consider. It just didn’t go right at the time,’’ Jackson said. “Obviously they went in a different direction and I was back in Baltimore and and wished him well, and I’m here in Oakland.’’
Asked if it was his decision, Jackson said, “No, no. That was their call at the time. And that’s OK. I feel I’m where I’m supposed to be now, here with the Raiders getting this organization where it needs to be.’’
Not long after the 49ers opportunity fell through, Jackson met with Al Davis and agreed to become the Raiders offensive coordinator, canceling an interview with the Chicago Bears for the same position.
Other candidates who either rejected the 49ers or were rejected were Clyde Christensen (now offensive coordinator in Indianapolis), Rob Chudzinski (assistant head coach in sAn Diego), Rick Dennison (offensive coordinator in Houston), Scott Linehan (offensive coordinator in Detroit), Jeff Jagodzinski (head coach of the Omaha Nighthawks of the UFL) and former Broncos and Falcons head coach Dan Reeves (retired).
Linehan turned down a job offer to go to Detroit, and was also interviewed with the Raiders.
– Quarterback Bruce Gradkowski did not practice, with the Raiders essentially waiting to see if there’s a miraculous recovery Friday before going ahead with the obvious _ Jason Campbell will start, Kyle Boller will be the backup.
“We kind of know where we’re headed with it,’’ coach Tom Cable said.
No sense in Gradkowski being the backup if he can’t start.
“If he’s good enough to go in and win the game, then he’d play and start,’’ Cable said.
– The thought of Boller having to play _ a possibility if he’s the backup _ isn’t something that’s keeping Cable up at night.
“Kyle’s kind of a rare bird. He studies everything and prepares as if he’s a starter all the time,’’ Cable said. “I know you hear that, but when you watch him work and listen to him talk, he’s talking a like a coach. I have no issues or worries whether he’s ready to go or not.’’
– Cable was holding out hope Darren McFadden would be ready to play with a strained right hamstring. McFadden seemed skeptical, and when Cable was asked if they’d be cautious if he played at less than 100 percent, he said, “He wouldn’t. He’s got to be ready to go.’’
It appears McFadden, who missed three games as a rookie with turf toe and four games last season with minor knee surgery, will miss his second straight game after the best sustained play of his career through the first four games.
– It’s slow going on the Chaz Schilens front.
“I don’t know that it’s moving along as quickly as we would have liked, obviously,’’ Cable said. “I know it’s improving, but it seems to be rather slow.’’
Schilens had surgery more than seven weeks ago and was originally supposed to be out for three to six weeks. Cable hoped Schilens could make it on the field to begin shaking off the rust “next week or the week after.’’
Last season, Schilens missed eight games with a broken metatarsal on his left foot. Looks as if he’ll be out at least that long this year.
– Defensive tackle Tommy Kelly knows how the 49ers feel.
In 2006, he had a respected Hall of Fame player as a head coach, high hopes going into the season, and then. . .
“I’ve been in their situation. I know that 0-5 is a desperate situation, you just want to get a win,’’ Kelly said. “You’ve put all that work in it. You want to get a little fruit for your labor and they’ve been struggling. They’re a good team, a good running game . . .I’m sure they’ll try and get it going against us.’’
The Art Shell Raiders of 2006, in fact, were in fact 0-5 and didn’t reach 0-6, beating the Arizona Cardinals 22-9.
Later that season, the Raiders took a 13-7 lead on the 49ers only to eventually fall 34-20 as Frank Gore rushed for 134 yards and Alex Smith was 15-for-19 for 165 yards and three touchdowns.
“You already know what they’re going to do,’’ Kelly said. “They’ve got a real simple game plan. They’re going to run the ball, try to chew up the clock and take shots downfield.
“We stop the running game and hopefully we can put some pressure on Alex Smith. He’s had a little trouble throwing it to the other team this year with his picks so hopefully we can put some pressure on him and cause a couple of turnovers.’’
– When the Raiders faced the 49ers in the preseason, Mario Henderson failed to get to the outside and slow down blitzing linebacker Travis LaBoy, who flattened Campbell and left him with a stinger and injured right wrist.
LaBoy is a reserve. Henderson, along with Jared Veldheer, the other left tackle who alternates by series, will get a heavy dose of Justin Smith, the right end in a 3-4, as well as Parys Harelson, who is swifter coming from the outside than LaBoy.
“I’m not going to let that determine how I play,’’ Henderson said. “I look into that matchup and know I’ve got to do better, but I’ve got to take it play by play.’’
– Robert Gallery, who said he’ll start against the 49ers Sunday, realized instantly in the season opener he’d be gone for awhile.
“It popped when I did it. It’s not something that just tightened up,’’ Gallery said of the hamstring injury which cost him a quarter of the season. “I was going full speed on that interception in the Tennessee game, and when you pop it like that, it’s hard to come back from.
“Obviously I would have liked to have been back sooner. You’ve got to be able to get into a stance and until this week I wasn’t really able to do that.’’

The reason i think campbell will eventually thrive with this team he has the most important skills that a good qb needs.
1. He reads defense. You can see his head turning while dropping back, and in the shotgun, going through his reads. bruce was cool but he seldom goes through all of his reads, looked like sometimes his mind is made up before the snap. however his improve skill is pretty decent.
2. Accuracy, once he’s made the read he delivers the ball with accuracy, and velocity, or touch.
3. Game management, he doesnt force a lot of balls. I think it is better to have a guy that a little more conservative than a gun slinging farve type. Even though gun slingers makes it exciting, the turn overs kill you.
I think this is the biggest difference between qbs like montana and young, vs farve ( the most overrated qb ever).
4. Size, you need it in the nfl. if you are not 6″2 or taller, you wont be very good, very few short guys can make it.
Then the bonus. He has the rocket arm.
He only needs more time.

Aig,
I dont know why you keep mentioning me, but i have to disagree with you.
Campbells arm is strong, but that is not his best quality. Nor is arm strength the best or most important quality a qb should have.
By the way yards per completion isnt that good of an indicator of arm strength. Just becuase a qb has a strong arm doesnt mean he is going to heave it down the feild on every snap.
come on bra, your better than that.
—————–
I busted your myths on him with turnovers and arm strength. Then you tried to back out of it. YDS per completion is a very good indicator of what type of QB you are when talking about Arm Strength and being able to use it or not. JC has never proved in his career that he is successful at putting his arm strength to on the field production. But keeping on making boasts because I will bust it every time.

These rae not boast they are opinions. Also its only a turn ove when the other team actually takes possesion, of the ball. So far Campbell has 2 picks and 1 fumbles, so your bouy has more turn overs this year.
The career td to int ratio is the number I look at. Grads has more ints then td’s for his career. Your stats were cute but they dont change that fact.
Yards per attempt stats dont tell me which qb has the stronger arm. Noone in thier right might would argue my boy soup has much better arm strength than madcowski.
Again arm strength is not the measure of a qb, although you do need it in this offense.
Really his biggest asset is the thing so many people here hate , his natural game management skill.
Add that in with reading the defense and being accurate, and you have a quality qb.
Nice try bra, but………aaaaaaaaank insert 3 big red family feud style x’s

Jason Campbell to resume starting against 49ers
Posted by Evan Silva on October 14, 2010 7:05 PM ET
With Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder) missing his second straight day of practice Thursday, Raiders coach Tom Cable strongly indicated following this afternoon’s workout that Jason Campbell would be his starting quarterback in Week Six against the 49ers.
According to Vittorio Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle, Cable allowed for “a tiny chance” that Gradkowski could practice Friday. But it won’t be enough. Wednesdays and Thursdays are the typically the days of practice during which teams install the vast majority of their game plan. The plan is set, and Campbell will be quarterbacking the Raiders.
Campbell relieved Gradkowski in Week Five, leading Oakland to an upset win of the San Diego Chargers. Compared by owner Al Davis to former Raider great Jim Plunkett back in August, Campbell completed 13-of-18 passes for 159 yards and a touchdown, avoiding turnovers and also scrambling for seven yards.
Campbell completed a 58-yard bomb to wide receiver Louis Murphy, and a one-yard touchdown pass to tight end Zach Miller. The best thing Campbell did, however, may have been what he did not do:
Target Darrius Heyward-Bey once.

The best throw cambell has had all yr was the one to Murphy in the sd game. The one to Reese was a nice touch to the sideline. I just don’t see him having good arm strength. I’ve seen alot of throws where he should of put some arm in it. But man when he gets time and starts to fill more comfortable in a game. He has some really nice throws. So hope this line can block for him. Keep him safe. Start with running the ball alot get cambell comfortable. Then the field will open up for him. If we can gets these recievers to catch the ball and run good routs. Time for cambell to throw the ball or owski. Whoever will start for us as the yr goes by. Defenses will have a hard time to game plan for us. Props to z miller glad to have him on my team. Let’s help him out Murphy, DHB.

This O-line will not let any QB see his next Birthday..
I’m ok with Boller being the back-up, he played very well in PRE, has learned a lot more, he’s earned my trust, and the O-line is gonna let him play….
The D-line is very up and down, had we used the Blitz in the FIRST quarter, Rivers would of been off kilter ALL game, we wouldn’t of given up so many yards..
Grads has been playing hurt, just like Christensen, Plunkett, etal… At least he’s trying, read between the lines, Jerry does, you just dont get it…

Anyway, I am troubled by Cable’s comments about DMAC. DMAC should be rested for this week. What good is bringing DMAC back for this game and having him re-injure his hamstring and lose him for the season.
Michael Bush can carry the load quite fine. Run Bush 20+ and let DMAC rest up.
Once the Raiders get Bush and DMAC healthy and on the field together…Hue Jackson’s offense is going to open up and those safeties will be coming forward….maybe getting DHB a catch or two…..

………………………..well i was drafted by the ny mets played in tide water virginia had my knee ligaments torn by a runner sliding into seconf while i was turning two my foot was trapped by the bag when he slide into my knee. so i was a professional shortstop that beats varsiy runner anyday.

I wonder if Camplunkett will take a page outta Rivers playbook and just chunk it over the top to DHB?
Hue should just run DHB on a deep post with Miller coming underneath that route on an out. Miller should be good enough on that route enough to make SFs safeties bite on him like our guys were biting on Gates last week, right?

JHill,
DHB still has a lot of work to do before they just chuck it over the top to him.
Plus, the o-line isn’t good enough for those 7 step drops.
I say, to the chagrin of many on here, that we keep doing the checkdown thing and occassionally hit Murphy.
May not be exciting to many…but to me hearing the referee say “1st Down” is plenty excitement for me whether its a 50 yard bomb…or a 1 yard bullrush up the middle.

——————————————————
DHB can run a deep post and deep corner route man, CMON! And he certainly has the speed to get deep.
If Zack Miller is getting the attention of the S, I want to see Camplunkett throw it deep to Murphy or DHB. And I mean out in front of them so we can see that 2nd gear.
I really don’t care if he catches it. DCs will HAVE to respect it, and that opens a lot of other stuff up.
As for the Oline not being good enough, you don’t wait until 3rd and long to call that play. Run it off of play action as we’ve seen done to us week in and week out.

Shauaghnessy is getting better and better, that kids future is very bright. Houston is still slow getting off the best thing about him is his strength but he’s lacking technigue and he’s not attacking like he was in preseason because I think he’s still trying to key the run vs the pass. McClain is having the same problem unless it’s passing situation. Both are going to be very good but it just takes reps.
Sometimes Seymour is doing more coaching than playing. Without his leadership this team would struggle worse than it does. We have got to come off the edge vs SF if we want to win. Alex Smith must go down and he must go down hard.

John Elway Reportedly Invested $15 Million in Alleged Ponzi Scheme
10/14/2010 3:50 PM ET By Hal Spivack
Hal Spivack
Former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway was reportedly swindled by a hedge fund manager, Sean Mueller, who was arrested and charged this week for running an alleged Ponzi scheme.
Elway and business partner Mitchell Pierce invested $15 million in March with Mueller, according to the Denver Post.
Mueller turned himself in on Wednesday morning, one day after being charged with racketeering, securities fraud and theft in a case that cost other investors “tens of millions of dollars,” according to authorities.
The Hall of Fame quarterback and his business partner reportedly met with Mueller in Denver on Feb 22. to discuss an investment with his company, Mueller Capital Management.
Elway and Pierce both wired funds to Mueller to be held in trust until the parties agreed on where to invest the money. On March 30, Mueller told the parties that he was still setting up the accounts for them, which goes along with a document filed in April by the Colorado Division of Securities in a civil case against Mueller detailing a $15 million investment made by two unnamed business partners in March.
Attorneys representing Elway and Pierce declined to comment on the filings to the Denver Post.
According to the article in the Post, Elway and Pierce “are not seeking funds invested by other investors, but are attempting to protect proceeds placed in trust, in a separate account,” they said.
Additionally, they added that they “were not part of the same scheme that gave rise to the injunction entered by this court.”

If DMC hadn’t gotten hurt before the next draft that might be true. His constant injuries area a real concern that’s why i view him as a change of pace player because it saves him from the wear and tear. Let big Bush pound them and DMC can hit ‘em where it hurts. kind of like what Wheatley and Garner were like. That was a very good combo, no a great combo.
This present one could be better. If dMC could just stay healthy I think these two are more dynamic because of their ability to both catch , run and block.

Sunday’s victory had all of the freakish and improbable situations for a Raider Halloween story.
Could it be that the snakebitten stink is finally gone?
Could it be that a turn around in fortunes is in the cards?
– Two blocked punts in one game, and one for a TD, when was the last time that happened? 80s?
– A defense so badly punked throughout pulls it out from the jaws of defeat and gets an NFL ref’s call overturned for the killing score. Are you kidding me? When was the last time the Raiders got a call in their favor? Holly roller?
– Huff and Branch making a winning play??
– Campbell and Cable finishing drives??
– HueJac calling plays like Bill Walsh? Is this the beginning of the HueJac Dynasty?
Thank you Uncle Al, whatever you did to turn this karma around keep doing it. The whinners are like a hungry mangy dogs better to stomp them when you can.

The Chicago Tribune passes along a report from the Nashville Tennessean saying that when Cutler was at Vanderbilt he suffered three concussions. He also had a concussion when he played for the Broncos in 2006, so that would make the one he got against the Giants at least the fifth in his life.
There’s a growing body of evidence that with each concussion an athlete suffers, he becomes more susceptible to future concussions — and to long-term brain damage.
Cutler says he recognizes the seriousness of concussions, but at the same time, he says he thinks it’s important for a football player to try to get back on the field as quickly as he can after getting hurt.
“This league is all about battling through injuries and stuff, but obviously concussions and your head is something you have to take pretty seriously,” Cutler said. “I’ve been banged up before and still went out and played. But your head and your brain is totally different. Once you start getting into that element, you kind of have to take a step back.”
The question now is whether Cutler will really take a step back if he has further concussion symptoms, or if he’ll follow the path of so many players who try to tough it out after their brains have been damaged on the field……….lets not trade for cutler……

I have a question. Why do these DB we draft, turn out to be… not so good, then when they turn up on another team, and they seem to be much better?
Why do we have guys like Nnamdi Asomugha and Sir Charles, that have back to back Pro Bowl type years, then well… “teams just don’t throw at them” for years and years?
Woodson last four years with the pack have been amazing. I’m sure teams in the league didn’t forget who he is, and why “just not throw at him?”

Had CWood really applied himself instead of hitting clubs and as manywomen as he could. He would be considered one of the greatest DB’s in the history of the game as good as Rod or Ronnie Lott even better. He was an outstnding athlete not as fast as Rod but just as good great tackler better than anyone I’ve ever seen at stripping the ball and tackling at the same time. He was almost the perfect DB if you could design a DB Charles Woodson would probably be very close to the finished product.

////////////////////////////////////////////////////
IMO he is as good or better than every WR we have on our roster…he was part of the reason that AZ felt comffortable enough letting Boldin go. 6′1″ 212 sure handed, can run after the catch, and is a GREAT blocker at the wr spot. At this point Branch has been a liabilty in coverage and he has whiffed in run suppirt

Priest,
I’m no expert but he looks like a Gallery clone and getting exposed at the LT like Gallery was during the Shell years. I know for sure he is a liability at the LT position because he has let 1 guy run right past him each game he has played LT now. It started with Peppers in the preseason and continued to last week with Phillips.
I think they are better off moving him inside.
October 14th, 2010 at 10:26 pm
That’s what I mean he’s not a significant upgrade why trade for someone like what you already have. If Chaz comes back we get that for nothing. Tyvon is just too good to just dump that sets us back IMO. I know he’s struggled this year but he’s a player just young IMO and too good to give to someone else for their 3rdWR.
October 14th, 2010 at 10:29 pm
IMO if we win Sunday there is a chance we trade if we lose I don’t think so. We have too many young plaers that are getting better why give them away unless someone gives you the house. There’s no telling how good Tyvon will eventually be so I’d wait.

Sean Combs says he wants to own an NFL team
Posted by Mike Florio on October 15, 2010 1:08 AM ET
While preparing to shut down for the night, I took one last look at the Twitter time line and I noticed that Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times had retweeted a message from the official, verified account of Sean Combs.
Combs, who has gone by names like Puff Daddy and Puffy and P. Diddy and Diddy and probably a few others I’m either forgetting or never knew, wants to own an NFL team.
In two separate entries, Combs declares, “I will be the 1st black man to be majority owner of a NFL football team!!!! BELIEVE!!!!!!! All things are possible through Christ!”
Combs, 40, likely has the money, the business savvy, and the creativity to pull it off. At this point, however, no NFL teams are for sale. But still has a dream of owning the Oakland Raiders.
October 14th, 2010 at 10:40 pm
Priest,
Then they have no business putting him out there at LT. Is there any other team in teh league that would tolerate that right now? I dont think so.
October 14th, 2010 at 10:42 pm
Henderson gets beat here and there but not once per week like V.
October 14th, 2010 at 10:47 pm
Well to a certain extent I agree but I also see their point. Mario had struggled and they want options at that spot and the other OT so if they can get him up to speed and also raise the level of Mario’s play it’s awin win situation. And I might add that the way it seem sto be playing out. If we can get 2 solid OT’s out this competition.

October 14th, 2010 at 10:55 pm
P,
The Raiders always do weird things. Frankly, Barnes should back up Mario if Mario is struggling. You dont put 2 guys who struggle to rotate with each other on the most important position of the Oline. You dont start a rookie at Center when he never played it in college. I love the Raiders but they always have to shoot themselves in the foot along the way.

Guy’s I know how most of you feel about this Oline but IMO it’s much improved over the last 3 games. Yes it got Bruce hurt and we’ve had a breakdown or two. But the wya they were playing week1 and now is night and day. Satele has settled in as I said he would Loper has been a surprise and Walker isn’t as atrocious as we thought. And while I wnat to replace CC you have to admit he never makes mistakes and no penalties. Mario is much better now and we’re getting Gallery back so IMO this line is above average. There are some horrible OLines in this league this year even on teams like Minn and GB and NO. So I really think this line is right there in the top half of the league.

Why does it make sense to trade Nnamdi? You get get a heck of a lot for him. The way I see it, our defense is horrible right now WITH him, how much worse can we get?
October 15th, 2010 at 12:14 am
Nnamdi might be a great player but it doesn’t seem to matter. It certainly hasn’ translated to the defense not giving up yards, and massive amounts at that.
Make a blockbuster trade for someone that WILL make a difference.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:20 am
Nnamdi is NOT Polamanu. When Polamanu was out, Pitt. was bad on defense, and when he came back, they were dominating again. That is the kind of guy in the defensive backfield that is a true difference maker. I don’t think Nnamdi is that.
We have sucked on D for seven plus yrs. and Nnamdi has been there the whole time.
I can’t see how worse we can get without him. Is it possible?
October 15th, 2010 at 12:23 am
It’s been the Run Defense that’s been bad.
Trade Nnamdi for Haynesworth?
October 15th, 2010 at 12:28 am
Al Davis believes in Conerbacks, although good pressure helps.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:30 am
If Haynesworth would play hard and not complain, I’d do that deal asap.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:32 am
So would Shanahan, probably.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:34 am
I think you should collect great players, not trade them. Add to them.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:35 am
But business says, you gotta get bang for your buck.
October 15th, 2010 at 12:40 am
If money isn’t an issue than heck yes keep him and add on.
Definitely need to figure out a way to add a run stopper, and o-line help. Maybe you address those issues in a creative way using Nnamdi as a feature in some sort of deal.

October 15th, 2010 at 5:01 am

Everyone thinks it was a great move by Al to switch Nnamdi from safety to corner because of the success he’s had shutting down WR’s but maybe the better move would have been to keep him at safety to be a Polamalu or Ed Reed type of playmaker.

Quarterback Bruce Gradkowski did not practice, with the Raiders essentially waiting to see if there’s a miraculous recovery Friday before going ahead with the obvious _ Jason Campbell will start, Kyle Boller will be the backup.
It appears McFadden, who missed three games as a rookie with turf toe and four games last season with minor knee surgery, will miss his second straight game after the best sustained play of his career through the first four games.

good moves!
no need to rush Bruce & Darren back before they’re 100 percent healthy and ready to make some noise.

I was on the road a lot between San Francisco and Fresno last week and listenting to NFL sirius radio, and they had an interview with Brandon Myers. They kind of clowned on him a little, but Brandon didn’t take it too bad. He has really been practicing blocking kicks and his technique is all calibrated to attack the kicker at the right angle and jump at the right release point.
Myers wont be forgotten after his work on the ST’s to get those blocks. That’s for sure.

DMAC & Grads aren’t far behind them – maybe starters next week for all we know!
I don’t count Travis Goethel, Thomas Howard & Michael Bennett as major contributors at this point … so I guess John Henderson & Chaz Schilens are the only MAJOR injuries that’ll be out longer than 2 weeks from today
October 15th, 2010 at 6:15 am
On the Chaz front, the Raiders should put him on IR.
Let him spend the rest of the year rehabbing instead of rushing back and getting hurt again. Give the roster spot to someone who can play.
Maybe Schilens can come into camp healthy next year and contribute something. His last chance.

I personally felt that we got lucky the last game as Rivers arm was going forward and it should have been an incomplete pass. If given a 2nd chance, who knows what Rivers could have done. 10 yards for Rivers isn’t a big deal, and he is an elite QB. If they call that an incomplete pass, I gotta believe that Rivers converts on 4th and 10 and sets up a chip shot FG to win it for SD.
But the luck we got this game kind of makes up for the game we gave away against Arizona when Seebass let down RaiderNation.

Do you have a link to that shot? In any case, it’s hard to determine by a still photo.
I saw the replay at least 15 times, and from what I saw, it wasn’t any different than a number of other passes ruled incompletions on a number of other games I have watched.
I didn’t even celebrate the TD, cuz I felt it was coming back. It looked like an incomplete pass all the way.

There were plenty of Charger fans bellyaching about Miller’s TD, saying his elbow was out of bounds, but on the reply…clearly Miller patted the turf with the palm of his hand prior to the elbow landing.
Also, that long catch that Marcel Reese hauled in that they said he didn’t get his foot in….he got jobbed on that call. He clearly got the 2nd foot in. There was no white chalk that came up on the 2nd step.

Refs don’t get enough credit for nailing things 98% of the time in full-speed.
I think our luckiest moment last week was the Matthews run to the 1/2 yard line that preceded the MM34 fumble recovery.
I thought he got in during live-speed, but they never gave a replay. Watched again Wednesday and looked again like he was in.
October 15th, 2010 at 6:56 am
And the Miller TD catch was about his knee.
Once the knee was in, which it was, all he has to do is that whole complete the catch-Louis Murhpy-Calvin Johnson rule.
I was focusing on the elbow at first and getting scared, than saw the knee in and knew it was all good.

me and Rich talked about this a few days ago
he (and a few others) think that AD will demand we force feed DHB the rock to prove he was right about the pick, but Crabs will probably still produce better #’s if he’s matched up with Routt or CJ37 and we rely on front 4 pressure only

There was no white chalk that came up on the 2nd step.
xxxxxxxx
Millers knee and thigh hit the ground. Thats the same as 2 feet. His hand hitting the ground would NOT have given him a catch, but it was moot because of the thigh.
Marcel Reece call was ruled incomplete on the field and there wasnt enough clear evidence to overturn. His foot was at best millimeters from the line. His fault, he should have dragged his foot not tried to step. Thats why he is a FB.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that the name of Green Party gubernatorial candidate Rich Whitney is misspelled “Rich Whitey” on electronic-voting machines in 23 wards — “about half in predominantly African-American areas.” The error only occurs on screens voters would see when they are reviewing their choices (Whitney’s name appears correctly on the initial screens), but officials say the error cannot be corrected before election day.

I bet DHB has his best game as a pro. 7 or 8 catches 120yds and a td. Think this will be the game he finally catches a long TD. SFs secondary is pretty weak and they are definitely going to want to make sure the WRs are involved.
October 15th, 2010 at 7:21 am
Watched the game again last night and I noticed something about Campbell that I guess I have been overlooking before…Dude has an incredibly fast release. When he ‘finally’ makes up his mind to go somewhere with the ball, boom, he gets rid of it quick..
Which brings me to my problem with Campbell…
He HOLDS the ball too long many times and doesn’t get it out of there..I think relying on his super quick release too much, and you saw that on the last two drives, when he makes up his mind quickly, bang, the ball gets delivered…if he sits back there and camps out with the ball, he still feels like he can get it in there because of his quickdraw, but he can’t..nobody can, the window slams shut, and he looks lost..
Rewatch that game, dude has a quicker release than Rivers and Gradkowski.

Go after Alex Smith all day. Try to concuss him till he cries uncle on a gurney.

Even though we are playing an 0-5 team, I don’t expect a win this weekend. Tom Cable really hasn’t shown the ability to motivate the team to win consecutive games. I think we have won back to back games once under Cable…and that was only because a player he refused to play, Michael Bush, saved his azz in TB.
October 15th, 2010 at 7:51 am
All the 49er weapons hinge on the success/failure of the starting QB.
Alex Smith is a borderline QB, and if we can get in his head with pressure, the rest of the 49er talent will just shake thier collective heads and chalk it up to a long day.
October 15th, 2010 at 7:52 am

Once we get a 10 point lead by using a solid ground game, time consuming drives, the pressure goes back to the niners. We need to pin the ears back and put a bounty on Smith’s head. Make it a skins game with pressures and hurries counting almost as much as sacks.

Interesting point about how Chicago works.
My company we’ll just say is involved in some of the municipalities pension plans out there.
Was told a story of when we got one of the accounts, we were told we couldn’t print our own materials for them, we had to use a “minority-owned” printing company in the area (were given a hand-selected list) for all material distributed in that area.
As I’m told, over around a 5 year period, they have changed printing companies almost a dozen times, due to companies going out of business and some just plain sucking. They get hand-feed business through these types of “politics” and don’t do shat to grow or run the business well.
OK…..that’s my rant on Chicago.

Props to Jimbo for noticing the same things I have (mentioned it a few weeks back).
Case in point was the first pass in the AZ game. Has his man beat off the LOS, safety over the top is way out of position, and Bruce leads him down the field.
DHB, turns, jumps in the are, sticks one arm out and it hits his elbow and hip. Could have just keep going and you know, actually used his hands for a nice down-the-field catch.
Worst part to me was his actions after it. No upsetness, slapping his hand together, nothing. Just got up and ran back to the huddle.
Business as usual with DHB!!!

The corporate culture in America is out of control with the sub-prime mortgage mess that should not have ever happpened if these “Banks and Brokerage houses” ran there companies with some sense of national responsibility. The bankers and stockbrokers who sold these sub-prime mortgages are getting huge bonuses and at the same time they are destroying the American economy. The same thing goes for the commidities market with oil prices and where they speculate the price of oil higher everyday which is destroying the economy and giving us higher inflation. Therefore, look at the former CEO of Merril Lynch where he destroyed the stock of the company by investing in these sub-prime mortgages. He was ousted as CEO and he received a parachute deal worth over 100 million dollars. This clown should be put in jail for destroying peoples lives. The financial mistakes that these corporations make in America affect peoples lives and ther jobs and they should be held accountable for there risky actions. The Corporations in America have no sense of National responsibility because, the only thing they care about is the bottom line. Therefore, I am asking my bloggers should companies like Merril Lynch and Countrywide be held accountable for there actions in destroying the “Housing Market” and the American economy.

Raiders defense has sprung a leak
October 15 Oakland Tribune Share Article”Not so long ago, the Raiders boasted of a defense that was among the league leaders in terms of average yards allowed. Now, they’re allowing big yards and scrambling to plug holes.
The Raiders allowed 947 yards to the Houston Texans and San Diego Chargers over the past two games. That represents the most allowed by a Raiders defense in back-to-back games since the 1997 team — which went 4-12 — was gouged for 995 yards by the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks.
In all, the Raiders have dropped from second in the NFL (260.7 yards allowed per game) after three games to tied for 23rd (345.8) after surrendering 441 yards to the Texans and 506 yards to the Chargers.
“My biggest concern right now for our defense is to play a complete game,” Raiders coach Tom Cable said. “One week it’s this, the next week it’s that. Neither one of them is acceptable.”
Against the Texans, the Raiders allowed 249 yards rushing. Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers torched the Raiders for 431 yards passing on Sunday.
As was the case in 1997, the Raiders somehow emerged from the two games with one victory, which cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha said is well and good but not a healthy way to make a living during the course of a 16-game season
“When the yards get up to 400, 500, almost 1,000 in two games, you don’t want that,” Asomugha said. “The fact that we won the game last week was good. And we almost won the Houston game, that’s great. But as a defense we want to be much better.”
The Raiders easily could hide behind the fact that the Chargers are the league’s top-ranked passing offense and the Texans are fifth in rushing offense. But cornerback Stanford Routt said that doesn’t cut it and that the Raiders must find a way to succeed against the run and the pass at the same time. Defensive coordinator John Marshall said it’s imperative for the Raiders to stick with “what we know is a winning formula. You come out, you practice the way you should practice. You work on your technique, you work on your gap control, and you work on your tackling.”
Rivers completed passes seemingly at will against the Raiders, with Routt saying he and his defensive mates wondered at times if they could do anything to stop the onslaught

Another tip RRS. It’s hard to remember these things because it’s obviously an emotional time for you and wifey and baby. But pay attention to what is happening when they haul your kid away for mandatory shots. They gave my 2nd kid a hepatitus b shot that wasn’t recommended until she was supposed to be 2 weeks old. The dosis was 10x what a child her age was supposed to get, and that is if it was supposed to be given. She ended up miserable the first year, underweight, with a myriad of allergies.
Bottom line is: Don’t trust the pharmacologist businesspeople who are trying to make a buck off of unneeded vaccines and medicines.

Somebody knows something is going to be fishy in this game.
Expect the Niners to get significant help from the refs in this game to get try and get them their first win.
They refs will call BS phantom calls on our secondary to help the Niners sustain drives and score points and they probably call a crap load of holding penalties against the Raiders and they won’t call hardly any holding penalties against the Niners when they are on offense.

Woodson is awesome, now he works hard. When he was here he was a regular in the green room at geoffrey’s.
The reason he makes more plays in gb is becuase they move him all over the field, qb’s lose track of where he is. Other wise teams would not throw at him at all.
The philosophy here is take away one side of the field. If we ever could find i guy with skill closer to nam’s we could be impossible to throw against, hayes & haynes all over again.

Round 2: C/G Mike Pouncey
Round 3: Best OT, or WR Leonard Hankerson
Round 4: G Chris Stewart (stud. this guy plays like a monster)
It would give Veldheer and Campbell some time to develop, and all of a sudden the Raiders have some depth on the offensive line.
Would still like to see the Raiders get an NT, FS, CB, and hell, maybe even a QB.
Nnamdi to NE for Light and a first-rounder? Use it on G/C Stefan Wisniewski, OT Derek Sherrod, or the biggest, fastest FS/CB available (haha…)?

Rockstar,
You and your wife need to take a pro-active approach once the big day arrives. Watch everything like a friggin Hawk….don’t trust the damned nurses to do things right. If you have a question ask it, because you might prevent something bad. After the delivery a nurse started to help the doctor do the stitching on my wife, and she didn’t have the correct gloves on for the job and my wife ended up with a bad infection and she was off her feet for 4 weeks after the big day.
And a few years ago my Dad went in for some kidney trouble and a nurse pushed an entire dose of morphine directly into his vein and hey, just like in those WWII movies, morphine kills! The morphine was supposed to go in an IV drip or something. My Dad died right there on the table with my mom watching….luckily my mom is an RN and she kicked the nurse out of the way and was able to give my dad CPR until the doctor got there and zapped him out of death’s doorstep!
Another time my Dad went in for a knee replacement surgery, and the prep nurse came in and started shaving his right knee….problem was he was having his left knee replaced! Some people would have just assumed the nurse knew what she was doing and wouldn’t have said anything!
Never trust people in a hospital. Your life and the life of your loved ones are in your hands.
Just watch every thing…watch the monitors…don’t assume someone else is….if you see something change, call the nurse…be a pain in the ass to protect your wife.

Nurses and staff all try to act like everything is normal, it’s all just procedure. They sometimes talk about getting thier hair dyed and what they are going to do for lunch, while your wife’s in labor. It’s all so matter of fact for them.
They don’t care! Don’t fall into false sense of security because your wife’s labor is trivial to them. Be a royal pain in the ass to them. The more so, the better. Let them know, even if your really a nice guy, that you will have their butt in a sling if they misstep.
Keep them on their toes. It’s better to be less civil. You can apologize for being an ass to them later. You are your family’s first line of defense. No one cares about them as much as you. Bring the intensity!

Rockstar,
As to the autism scare, etc with shots. I was worried about this very issue. Do research yourself and you will find the answers.
Thimerosal is a preservative that they used to use in vaccines, and still use in some shots, like flu shots. They claim that studies show that thimerosal doesn’t cause autism, but why take that risk? They once cleared asbestos, lead paint, accutane, Fen phen and agent orange too….Just demand thimerosal free vaccines and shots.
And don’t let your kid take needless drugs, like accutane, simply because he has some acne…change his diet first, and if that doesn’t work, let it run its course. Sure, a drug like accutane may clear up his face, but he may later be diagnosed with Crohn’s disease.
Vaccines are great, they have saved millions of lives, just ask for thimerosal free ones….

I know way too many nurses dumber than a doorknob
(no offense if any of you guys are married to one) I know they aren’t all like that
I know hospitals are money hungry too. We just built this brand new facility and now the big shots (bigger than me!) are whining about giving raises (now locked at a 3 percent annual MAX) and getting rid of the little things like coffee, cups, forks, sugar & such in the breakroom. insurance premiums went up 10 percent with no additional coverage. retirement plan is now a match type deal. we’ve even fired countless employees for health reasons. don’t ask me how we got away with that!

In the birthing room we were in the nurse was wearing white latex gloves while helping the doctor stitch up my wife. The thread was being run right through the nurse’s fingers and against those white gloves. Suddenly the doctor paused and in a calm voice directed the nurse to please go put on the proper sterile gloves…she went over to a dispenser and put on a blue pair of gloves. The next day the doctor put my wife on a low-level antibiotic, but it wasn’t enough and my wife suffered a severe infection.
It couldn’t be proven that the gloves were at fault because of all the other nasty things that happen during child birth, but in my heart I know it was the white gloves…the nurse had been wearing them for about 2 hours, touching all kinds of things in the room before she assisted the doctor.
Another thing, if you see a nurse, or anyone for than matter, walk into the room and forget to use the hand sanitizer by the door, tell them to turn the foook around and sanitize their hands before touching your wife. Don’t trust that the hospital people didn’t just come from the bathroom, or another patient’s room for that matter.

Here’s why (IMO)
-Niners alot better than their record.
-Niners playing desperate are waaaay overdue
-Niners played well against Philly and could have/should have won.
-If they are gonna win a game, Raiders seem to be best chance.
-Raiders still don’t have respect of the league yet. I think media is cautiously optimistic about them possibly ‘turning the corner’, but they (and we) have seen this movie before, where Oakland wins a big game and then comes out with a thud the next game. They haven’t proven they can win two games in a row and until they do, people won’t believe in them.
-I understand totally the pick of the Niners. If I were not emotionally involved as a fan I would pick SF too, because we just haven’t shown we can win multiple games (no less two)in a row.
That is when we’ll have truly started to turn the corner imo.

The dude got his sample, and when I realize what happened, I chased the guy to the elevator. I was going literally going to kill the guy, or have someone stop me. That guy ran and he had some fear in his eyes as I missed the elevator.
Watch for that. Don’t let them sneak up on you.

Media is like; “Ok Oakland. Prove to us you can win two in a row and we’ll start to believe”. Until then, you’re still gonna have the doubters and naysayers.
We can all day about how WE feel Raiders are a different team etc. etc. but…WE HAVE TO PROVE IT by winning multiple games in a row.
I’ve been a psychotic, obsessive Raider fanatic all my life, so I’ve been burned by this team way more than I care to think about. This franchise has ruined many a Sunday night for me, being pi$$ed off about the latest and greatest humiliation, so I am very jaded in regard to this team. I want ‘em to win, and I don’t care how they do it, but…they have to PROVE ON THE FIELD they can win more than just one game and then go down the crapper like we have seen so many times.
I hope it’s THIS SUNDAY.

May be just a Jerry’s previous entry about Boller or my expectation that the desperate 49ers – backed into a corner – are going to go after our QBs like a pack of rabid wolves this week, but nevertheless, I’ve got this strange feeling that Campbell and Boller both get knocked out of this game and we insert Michael Bush as our emergency QB for the 4th quarter … and we still pull off a narrow victory.
Just in case though: Somebody better make sure Danny Southwick has a ticket to this game.

Believe it or not, autism rates are 4X greater when the DAD is over 40. It used to be thought that only the age of the woman’s eggs were pertinent to developmental disorders; now researchers know that old nuts make more defective sperm too.

Ginn, Crabtree, Morgan, and Davis area an interesting group of receivers for our DBs this weekend.
Gore is as good as shut down, so let’s ee if our DBs can come up with some 3rd down stops and turnovers.

Rams 24, Chargers 20
Texans 31, Chiefs 14

Donkeys 2-4
That’d be nice.

Rockstar,
I am not trying to freak you out or anything, but another important thing to keep in mind is the risk for SIDS. A cousin of mine lost a 4 month old baby to SIDS.
One of the new theories on what causes SIDS has something to do with serotonin levels in the brain…I can’t explain it, but they say you should have your child sleep on its back, in a crib with nothing that can get near its mouth. The theory has something to do with too much carbon dioxide being breathed back into the lungs and triggering something with serotonin in the baby’s brain, which in some cases causes the respiratory system to fail.
Other things I read said to have a ceiling fan installed in the room to make sure clean air is always circulating around your baby’s head. And to dress you baby in warm pajamas instead of having a blanket in the crib, which the baby could turn its face into….and they also sell monitoring pads that you put under the crib sheet that will alarm if there is no activity with the baby for a few moments…it will wake you up in plenty of time to do something.
That is all from Dr. Dakota.

Chris,
The wintern will be there if needed to play – the kid is always in game shape. For this team though, he is far more valuable as a coach with connections upstairs.

Dakota, the gloves comment is critical. Also, every new parent should also BANK the CORD BLOOD. It is packed with stem cells that already match the kid/family and will be available to treat so many diseases as therapies are developed in coming decades.

DAMN RIGHT BO!
My wife is a Singaporean. It is automatic to bank the cord blood in Singapore. Her brother just popped out his third, thus banking more blood.
Universal health care as well.

Yes it would be nice.
IF, the Raiders defense plays even an “average” game, and the offense doesn’t make mistakes, and we prevent the niners from getting to the QB, Raiders WILL WIN.
October 15th, 2010 at 10:27 am
WR’s = single covered entire game
ZMiller = doubled on 3rd & 4+ yards
otherwise I expect to see Pat Willis & the SF strong safety to be charging the LOS all game long trying to bust up run plays or disrupt JCamp in the pocket

We have folks watching whenever we have someone in the family in the hospital.
My mom was in the hospital ICU (Kaiser) from an emergency and, while there, a pre-existing condition (real bad) flared up due to not having her on her meds. So, did they check with her physician (also Kaiser)? Nope. We had to pester them about contacting her doctor and he wasn’t responding when they did call. Meanwhile, there is my mom, suffering. Finally got it taken care of but what an ordeal.
It’s amazing. Same hospital system and everything, yet they didn’t bother pulling her history nor were the records even available. Once they did decide to, it was like pulling teeth to get her files from her doctor.
Lots of different doctors and nurses over the course of the ordeal and all were aloof except for 2 nice nurses and 1 physician. One doctor even laughed when I pestered about making sure they take measures to prevent DVT, which we had just recently lost a family friend to after a routine surgery.
Pity the sole that is hospitalized with no family/friends to advocate for them.

Rob Ryan is going to send the dogs after Big Ben this weekend. expect something like 4-5 sacks against that weak O-Line but Mendenhall getting 150 and a score
Browns upset win 14-10 (Cribbs & Hillis TD’s)

No way. 30-0 Steelers. Defense will score 2 TDS
And I still think DHB goes over 100 this week. Just a hunch. I have nothing to support it. He may still be invisible, which is far more likely.

Raiders offensive coordinator Hue Jackson indicated that his backfield will be a “hot hand” situation once both running backs are healthy.
“We’re going to play to their strengths,” Jackson said. “There’s no egos there, which is fun for me.” Michael Bush will have a chance to gain momentum this week with Darren McFadden (hamstring) expected to miss another game. If McFadden channels his early-season form once he returns, though, it’s going to be hard to keep him off the field as the offensive focal point.

I could see Oakland potentially going 3-1 in their next four games. Unfortunately, this one is one I feel like they’re going to lose. 24-20 49ers.
The Raider defense will stop Gore and Davis all day… until that one play where they don’t.

Ron Artest stopped drinking this offseason and lost 20 lbs so he could cover Durant better.
Artest puts his stamp of the Lakers this year.
NO WAY he defers to Kobe as much as he did last year. We’ll see how that works out.

Good one.
I’m a little tired of the media’s bumrush to annoint Crabtree as a clearly superior pick though. I didn’t want DHB at the time and he hasn’t done much, but at least he’s trying and he’s got more upside than Crabtree. Crabtree held out half his rookie season and, until last week (when he had a decent but far from great game) Crabtree has been invisible this year after antagonizing teamamates and coaches alike with his training camp laziness.
I could see DHB being far superior a couple years out and down the line.

GREAT effin question.
I just don’t see it much at all. Especially when the LBs are creeping up.
How about a quick check to a slant to the area where the LB is coming from?
A quick hitch to Miller or a swing pass to a RB?
