    - The offensive play calling has been horrible.
    - The defensive play calling has been almost horrible.

    - On the last drive last week although Campbell played terribly he did hit Ford right between the numbers only to have the ball clank off of his chest like a Shaq free throw off of the rim.

    - Back to the play-calling, the Raiders red zone performance is a prime example of the poor play calls. Running the ball 3 times in a row (the same play twice) against the strength of the 9ers, c’mon man.

    - Not one attempt to Zach Miller (your best receiver) in the red zone is some major bull.

  • new englandraider

    Morning men…

Do you guys think the DMac stuff is smoke and mirrors… About 2 hours before Kickoff, KHTK was reporting that DMac would indeed play in the 49er game… Obviously he didn’t… Two weeks ago, Cable said this injury wasn’t as bad as the other that sidelined him for 3 weeks…. So which is it? Does he play?

Please advise on any MM34 news… Was he injured Sunday or not? Eugene played the last 5-6 minutes, no sign of MM34.

  • new englandraider

I agree, the playcalling was a bit mystifying, however IMO, it was all due to a lack of confidence in Campbell… When you’re running draws on 3rd and 6, that tells me, you do not have confidence in giving the QB the ball….. I don’t blame Hue a bit.. JC has looked like the worst QB ever.. Would you have confidence in him? Do you now have confidence in him?

  • bcz24

I doesnt make much sense to alter the play calling for Campbell. He executed the playbook flawlessly against SD, why didnt they stick to that script? Why would you try and cram it down the throat of one of the better run defenses, why would you NOT make any adjustments when Bush was unable to move the ball and Campbell hadnt completed a pass in 2 QUARTERS! Its all on the coaches.

I think the Defense is a DT away from being a decent squad.

Offense however, needs major work. The O-line is bad, WRs are bad, and QBs are bad.

Another good offseason and draft concentrating on the offense before this team is ready to make a move.

8-8 or 7-9 would be a huge step for this team and would get them ready for next year.

TO has 31 catches for 476 yards this season, which puts him on pace to finish the season with 99 catches for 1,523 yards.

    - I think that it goes both ways the coaching staff doesn’t quite know what to do with Campbell and Campbell really doesn’t have any confidence in his teamates or the coaches at this point.

    - It’s hard to really judge anything at this point, The play calling is more than suspect, the o-line personnel aren’t helping (maybe a couple of them are playing the wrong position), and the receivers are questionable at best.

    - I by no means support poor play by anyone, but I do recognize that takes the whole unit (players and coaches) doing their jobs making good decisions to win a game.

    - It’s obvious from watching the games that Campbell is not confident in his knowledge of the play book so combine that with all of the things that I mentioned above and you get a weak offense. Also with the current state of the o-line I think the Raiders would be best served with more mobile QBs.

    ………..
They are inconsistent. They show flashes, but then f’k up at the worst time.

The Safeties get exposed a lot due to lack of pressure on the QB from the front 4 as well.

I just said they would be DECENT, not great, but good enough.

I think its time to see what these young guys have to offer.

Branch has played worst than Huff.
MM should be on the field more often. (has played solid)
CJ is pretty washed up….(Ware or Mcfadden should replace him)

  • bcz24

Our safeties consistantly get caught cheating up to the line, be it on runs or play action. They need to be trained to cover their area and stay there! If Gore busts through the line and Branch is where he is supposed to be thats a 12-18 yard run instead of a 64 yd run. If Huff and Branch BOTH dont bite on the Alex Smith roll out they dont leave vernon davis WIDE OPEN for a TD.

If you consistantly try to do someone elses job, you leave no one to do your own. If all 11 men on our Defense do what their assignment calls for in any given play, then we dont get torched for big play after big play.

True. Awful job by the rookie on that play, but come on, the offense wasn’t going anywhere all day. That would’ve been another one of Campbell’s patented 2-yard pass plays and there was nothing to suggest we’d score, convert a 2-point conversion and win it in OT at that point.

I beleive we actually have the talent to win. Shaughnessey Seymour Kelly and Houston Wimbley Mcclain and Scott is a front seven designed to stop the run and get a pass rush Nnamdi and Routt are solid and Huff is a good cover corner Mitchell good in the box. Our oline looked good, yes good against the pass rush of the 9ers and we have had a 100 yard runner in every game except for the 9ers. Bush and Mcfadden is as good a 1 – 2 as any in the league Reece is as a good a fullback out of the backfield as any Miller is a stud TE and our DHB/Murphy Duo have a lot of growing to do but look formidable with Bruce at the healm. Talent wise the only question is Bruce staying healthy and if he stays healthy is he really good enough for a whole season or just for flashes? The real problem is every organization needs change to keep things fresh especially when things aren’t going well and although I love him, Al needs to get a GM because these 8 years have resulted in a culture of losing similar to the Clippers where regardless of the talent level as Marty Schottenheimer said, if you keep the game close against us we’ll lose, because it’s old habit. Organizations need fresh blood, fresh ideas. Even the Cowboys will continue to struggle if Jerry Jones continues to exert so much control and he actually hires GM’s. The iron fist with which Al leads results in no reputable coaches wanting to come here. Shoot Hue Jackson coming here was a surprise.

    No Pass Rush

The idea that Campbell was lights out in the SD game is another myth. The reality is the D/special teams/offense with Grads scored 19 pts to the offense’s 16.

Campbell threw for 159 yards and 1 TD in that game. He was sacked 3 times and fumbled once. He ran 4 times for 7 yards. He completed one pass downfield to a WR.

He entered the game with a 12-point lead. We won by 8 points.

He managed the game well and helped us win behind a strong running game and several big plays by the D/special teams.

  • aig-raiders

JaPuke couldnt win in Wash surrounded by probowlers. How is he going to win here? He’ll never win. After we cut him and we will in the offseason, He’s going to be playing for the league min on someone else’s roster as a backup. My guess right now is the Panthers.

1- Hire a new coaching staff.
2- Get a real QB who can avg more than 50% cmp, and he needs to know how to read a Defense.
3- we need to add a DT/ NT.
4- we need to improve our OL.
5- we need to fix the WR situation. We need a vet who can make plays.
6- we need a blocking FB, and we should keep Reece.
7- we need another CB. Routt & CJ are done.
8- we need to add a blocking TE.

    IMO:
    - Branch needs to compete with Huff at FS, and start/ give MM more playing time at SS. Cut Eugene, and make S Brown the backup SS, and the 4th S on the roster. We don’t need 5 Ss.
    - Move L Walker to RG, and let Campbell play RT. The freakish athlete is playing G, and we have a need at both T positions?!? Makes no sense to me.
    - Use Reece as a TE like D Clark and Chris Cooley. Him and Z Miller can catch the ball, and they can take presure off our young WRs, and help our QBs.
    - Our Base D should be (when Henderson is healthy):
    LDE: Seymour/ Houston
    DT: Henderson
    DT: TK/ Houston
    RDE: Matt S
    Or
    LDE: Houston
    DT: Henderson
    DT: Seymour
    RDE: Matt S

  • RAIDERMAN99

Campbell did have a respectable game against S.D. Overall, he did a good job managing the game. 2 long drives and no turnovers. Props to him for that…

    BUT

There was still one series in that game where the Raids called a time out, Campbell comes back out on the field after the time out, comes to the line, and something is wrong, play clock is winding down to zero, here comes ANOTHER time out — except he isn’t allowed to call another time out ! Miraculously, the Raids aren’t penalized for delay of game as the officials have a brain cramp and allow the Raids a ‘do over’. So much for stellar ‘game management’.

Not the first or only time there’s been inexcusable confusion getting a play off. The most notable being Grads not bailing Hue Jackson out in AZ by calling a time out when the play was late and a prudent time out probably nets the Raids 4 more points and a win.

One other thing I’D like to mention about the game in SF. I missed the opening series when SF attempted to challenge an unchallengable call. From what I understand the Raids got screwed on that one.

But besides that, the trend of the Raids getting some favorable calls continued or the result could have been worse.

Case in point…the intentional grounding call against SF…this was dubious at best. No doubt Smith was throwing the ball away and there really wasn’t a rcvr in the area but this appeared due to a miscommunication between the QB and WR, and I’ve seen far more egregious groundings go uncalled.

Another very questionable call that went the Raids way occurred later when JaJason was sacked for what looked like an obvious SAFETY. But nope, the refs place the ball on the one inch line. Thought it should have been a safety watching the play in real time, still thought it was a safety after watching it on the replay. Surprised Singletary didn’t challenge that one.
