This is a good point, Indy does have a track record of resting people at the end of the year. I will reserve judgement on this game later in the season and see what the Colts recors is.

Not a DHB hater, but makes you kind of think why Al didn’t go w/ Maclin or Harvin instead.
++++++++++
I was shouting from every rooftop I could find when the rumors starting getting out that Al was going to take DHB that he should take Maclin if he really wanted a receiver. Guess my voice doesn’t carry to Alameda!
=========================================================
maclin/ harvin, they are fast they can catch, they dont have the size or power of DHB. They have an edge at this point when it comes to hands, but hands and catching can improve through coaching and technique. You cant coach size and power.
===============
Maclin has good hands, size, speed, and I guess you can say power.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Mistic,
Jeremy Maclin is 6′ tall and runs a 4.4. In 22 games, he’s caught 85 passes for 1,220 yards and 10 TDs.
Percy Harvin is 5′11″ and runs a 4.4. In 21 games, he’s caught 85 passes for 1,079 yards and 9 TDs.
Darrius Heyward-Bey is 6′2″ and runs a 4.3. In 18 games, he’s caught 23 passes for 285 yards and 1 TD.
Would you rather have the 2 or 3 inches and one-tenth of a second or the 85 catches and 1,000+ yards? I know what I’d pick. Maybe you disagree.

DHB has track speed, not football speed, which is why he can’t separate. I don’t know why he can’t catch, but after as much work as he’s supposed to have put in so far and zero improvement, I’m not optimistic in that direction.

maclin/ harvin, they are fast they can catch, they dont have the size or power of DHB. They have an edge at this point when it comes to hands, but hands and catching can improve through coaching and technique. You cant coach size and power.
^^^^^^^^^^
In today’s game, size and power for WR’s is overrated. You look at the young studs at WR nowadays. They are little guys like DeSean Jackson who are 5′9″ and 180 lbs soaking wet.
October 26th, 2010 at 11:44 am

^^^^^^^^^^^
Me neither. WR position is mostly instincts and hands, and speed and size are overrated. This is the flaw in Al Davis size/speed theory.
October 26th, 2010 at 11:44 am
Yeah but I don’t think DSJ can outjump the bigger corners in the NFL. I guess there’s not much Larry Fitzgeralds to go around in the NFL.
October 26th, 2010 at 11:47 am
On Sunday, the announcers were talking about why Brandon Lloyd was having such a turnaround season. They said it was because he mentioned that most recievers want to get the ball in stride, while he prefers to “lay out” for the ball. I agree with him. We need our WR’s to layout for the ball and go for it more, regardless of the pounding you take as your helmet hits the turf.
October 26th, 2010 at 11:47 am
DHB’s development has been stunted since college. He has never had a legit quarterback to throw him the ball to improve. The coaching staff there probably used DHB to run the go route the entire time on passing situations. So maybe he should go back to college in the big 12 where they’re all pass happy.

The Larry Fitzgeralds of this world are few/far between. You can’t manufacture one and assume a physical clone will have his instincts. Fitz is a rare talent. DHB just looks like he could be a Fitz, but you see him on the field and its like the beauty queen with the squeeky whiny voice, you want to apreciate that but hope she shuts up.

********DHB draft debate continues***********
I have to make comment on the DHB debate. I know there a number of people asking why we did not take any of the other WRs in the draft and I agree that it would have been better to draft one of the other starting WRs as it looks right now. But I don’t think the Raiders were all that crazy to draft DHB assuming no one wanted to trade with us so we could trade down. Rumor at the time was NY was looking for a big WR and was considering drafting DHB so he would not be around by the second round.
I also raised the point before the draft that looking at all of the WRs DHB seemed to have the most upside with speed, measurables, ability to catch jump passes in the endzone. Heck he even took a couple reverses to the house. Maclin at the time looked more strong on KRs and PRs and JLH was the man in that department at the time. Crabtree (Who did not want to be a Raider)was a lot like Chaz in his play making ability and route running. Dmac could be used in a lot of packages that played to Harvins WR strengths. That leaves two of my favorite at the time Nicks who seemed a little slow and slugish. Now he is still no speedster but he looks good with NY. Lastly, we have Britt who is looking good for TN but is having some off field issues such as a bar fight.
Did we take DHB to high in the draft? Yes! But we did need a WR and DHB was ranked high on WR draft boards. If we had a later 1st round pick it may have been easier to stomach. I am not giving up on DHB yet, I just question if he will ever have the talent/hands to seperate with the 4.3 speeed and finsih with the big catch.
Chaz being hurt and being drafted so high is what is so hard to stomach. He ssems like he works hard and is growing but not at the rate of the other WRs in his draft class. But I think we all agree that the other WRs have better QB play as well.

Nick generally makes the first person miss and goes straight up the field. You cannot say that about JLH. What’s nice about him is he also has better decision making on what balls to catch and which ones to let go. JLH did very poor with that earlier in the season.

When I look at the schedule I see a realistic 7-9 (which could win division sadly) It is possible for 9-7 with some continued inspired play.

RRS, you have to admit N. Miller has been an upgrade over JLH on punt returns. (I think anyone who catches the ball and at least falls foward would be better than Higgins as a returner lol)
********************
Disagree cuz both had one big return and thats it….but Nikki can field the PR….in NFL for most part after abot 3 years people catch on to returners and know how to play them thats why JLH needs to just focus on being a WR
______________
Nick generally makes the first person miss and goes straight up the field. You cannot say that about JLH. What’s nice about him is he also has better decision making on what balls to catch and which ones to let go. JLH did very poor with that earlier in the season.
*****************************
Nikki’s career TDs? Thank you and Nikki has done the same crap JLH has done and not make people miss at times too….but he can be PR but he doesnt need reps over JLH and Ford in the Offense but he will get some chances

can you imagine what it would do for the confidence of the entire Defense to know they have two big fat NT’s to clog the middle subbing in with penetrator DT’s Kelly & Seymour ???

Question!
is it possible to love Louis Murphy and Jacoby Ford when you hate Bruce Gradkowski and Jason Campbell?
I mean both WR’s not only dropped a pass on a potential game winning drive in the 4th quarter, but they caused an Interception.
Funny thing is, despite poor QB play we could be 6-1 with better WR and/or kicker play

How did Grads almost cost us the Charger game after being spotted 12 points? By getting injured? Campbell came into the game with the same 12-0 lead. Question makes no sense.
Campbell has played well in 2 games (SD & Denver) and horrendous in 3 (Tenn, StL and SF). Grads has played well in 3 games (StL, Arizona and Houston) and poorly in none.

CLEVELAND — A radio host in Cleveland has hired a witch doctor in an attempt to send some bad mojo to basketball star LeBron James after he ditched the Cavaliers to play for the Miami Heat.
WMMS-FM broadcast the hex ceremony Tuesday morning, hours before the Heat’s season opener in Boston.
The radio station says a witch doctor used bones, blood and a James jersey to cast a curse on the two-time MVP.
The host of “Rover’s Morning Glory” says it’s payback for the way James called it quits with the Cavs earlier this year.

Since last year’s camp and preseason, Nick Miller has made plays whenever the ball is thrown his way. There’s alot of us that were excited about him last year. Oh yeah and how has he done so far returning PR’s vs JLH? I dont remember any first tackler getting him last week do you? Is he the best PR we have in the last 2 years?
But dont bother with me. Take it up with Al Davis and Cable. They thought highly enough of him to allow an drafted freeagent to make the roster and occupy the spot for the entire year.

No, you are right chief… His “potential” to be a better PR than JLH, he11, even better than Devin Hester is certainaly a “potential”. I wouldn’t be suprised if he has “potential” to “potentially” and “eventually” beat every record ever set by Jerry Rice. The “potential” is certainly there, can’t argue with you on that one chief.

St. Jimmy,
Nick Miller has looked good when given a chance (largely in preseason as a WR but Sunday as well and as a PR). Great hands/ball skills. Quick. Tough. Instant upgrade in the return game.
Wes Welker was an undrafted free agent out of college as well and took a few years to emerge. Tough for UFAs to get a chance to shine right away.
Don’t be so blinded by draft position to see what a guy’s got. Romo, Kurt Warner, Priest Holmes, Wes Welker and many other great players have gone undrafted. When that happens it’s a long climb to crack the starting lineup. Your disregarding Nick Miller is off the mark. No one is saying he’s Jerry Rice, just that he looks like he could emerge as a real nice slot receiver if given the chance.
October 26th, 2010 at 3:08 pm

I wanted Nicks or Harvin instead of DHB, but that’s just me.
DHB is a Raider now, and I think he can definitely be a serviceable player (albeit maybe not the caliber one would expect with a top ten draft pick). I’m not going to write him off after two seasons, much like DMac shouldn’t have been written off after two seasons.
I think he would be a lot more successful if he wasn’t being forced into a starting job. Get a solid veteran presence in the receiving corps, and let DHB compete for the #3 or even #2 receiving spots, and watch him contribute. More consistent quarterback play would help as well, but that’s another issue.
Simply put, Al Davis forced DHB into a role that he’s not ready for and may not even fit.

Jimmy is just a lot of hot air and no substance. Nick Miller has already owned the PR position in just a few games. It took him 1 game to have a big catch. LMAO, sorry spinmaster, but you didn’t say that in your initial post…now you are trying to back out of it and looking like a fool.
Oh yeah man, I just meant he was the greatest Raider punt returner!
LMAO whatever kiddo, then just say that.

In all honestly folks, the Raiders did not run up the score. They took what was given to them and let off the gas in qtr4. If they wanted to run up the score, they would have. I wish they did, but they didn’t. They could of scored in the 4th qtr and they didn’t. It’s a battle to just get 7. If it was that easy for most teams to do, you would see scores like 77-68, maybe 80, all the stinkin time… Raiders score 59. Awesome. They easily could of scored, that particular day, 70+.
Personally, I think they’ll do it again. Maybe even 70 next time.
October 26th, 2010 at 3:31 pm
Brien, do you realize they could spot the Raiders the playoffs every year, every single year, and they’d never make it past the wild card round?

I know, I’m sorry that I don’t understand your pawn shop level of understanding. Typically the word “our” shows a comparison or ownership, or, in this case, a common likeness to the Oakland Raiders. This is an Oakland Raiders blog, so when I said the work “Our” last great punt returner I assumed most if not all would know what I meant. However, I did fail to realize there are some on this blog, such as yourself, that probably don’t understand the english language all that well. Forgive me for seeming as if I was trying to “spin” something.
