Campbell draws media assignment

Although Jason Campbell wouldn’t say if he would start at quarterback for the Raiders against the Seattle Seahawks, he met with the media to discuss this week’s game, an indication that Bruce Gradkowski could be at least another week away from returning to action.

“I’m just preparing myself to be ready,” Campbell said with a laugh.

The media schedule today is tight, with open locker room, Seattle conference calls (Marshawn Lynch and Pete Carroll) and the media window for practice happening in rapid succession.

I’ll check in later with some news and notes . . .

Can they just stop the BS alraedy? We all know it’s JC again this week. I think they are playing with the Hawks.

On DHB, he is just not a natural football WR. You can see he mistime his leaps and has trouble tracking the ball.

  • RaiderRockstar

We need a huge game from 4 individuals imo

Hue Jackson, Jason Campbell, Tommy Kelly & Rolando McClain.

if they all get it done, I see ZERO chance that we lose this game barring a special teams disaster like Arizona!

Cable thinks he tricked Josh McD into preparing for Boller.

think Carroll will gameplan for Grads after the “Bruce is the starter when healthy” line from Cable on Monday?

  • big pep

i think DHB is gonna be fine ill give him to his third year, though i really wish he would start playing like an NFL caliber wide out.

  • aig-raiders

I think it comes down to JC and Hue.

  • Jimbo

What is sad is he has no eye-hand coordination. If he was a basketball player he’d be the guy that get that posterized dunk on him all the time. He can’t time a jump or position his hands correctly.

I am embarrased for him when DHB (manos de piedra) goes up for a ball and reaches down to his waist to try and catch it off his hip. Ugh!

When I heard last week it was Boller, I wanted to jump off the bridge. Cable is a damn liar. I wish he’d stop that.

The availability of Veldeer and Gallery on the left side of the line is going to key this week. If Satele can’t go at center and Veldeer has to take his place, it’s a whole nother ballgame. Rarely has line-play domination been so evident for those of us at home, watching from the sofa. Those guys were like road graders.

  • Jimbo

McD should be fired. Bowlen should put up a slide of a fat monkey and say, see that is what outcoached you. your’e fired!

  • DMAC

Sorry, no Beast Mode this Sunday. I think Marshall has a nice game plan against his former team (The SeaTurds).

    I appreciated.

This is the most compelling update I am waiting on all week. It could well be diff between a W and L.

Both Cal RB’s return to their old stomping grounds.

Is Jake Grove ambulatory? Any quick-turnaround free agent centers out there who might enable the Raiders to keep Valedeer at LT? No? OK, just asking.

Big Mike Williams comes back to seek revenge on one of the teams that gave up on him.

  • Jimbo

Hope that Satele clears his concussion test.

  • DMAC

DHB kind of reminds me of Mike, early in his career. Big, fast, and couldn’t catch for schit.

  • raiderdeek

Jimbo – couldnt’ agree more on DHB. The reason why he doesn’t go up for the ball is because he can’t catch with his hands. Most of DHBs catches (when he does catch them, are with his chest). Watch most of the replays and you’ll see he hardly ever catches any balls with his hands and when he tries to, they usually result in dropped balls. this is why he can’t catch balls when a DB is on him…This is why his upside will be limited despite how big and fast he is. Look at Hakeem Nicks who we also passed on. He catches with his hands and uses his big body as a weapon against undersized DBs. But in DHBs case, he lets it come to his body which gives the DB a chance to defend. Sigh…so far DHB is probably (at best) the 6th or 7th best receiver in that draft class…and Louis Murphy is better than DHB (taken in 4th round).

  • DMAC

Veldeer is a beast on run plays, but still scares me on passing downs.

    On DHB.

If we a a QB that new how to throw the ball to our wideouts, his numbers would be way better. same with Murphy. They need the damn ball.

Look at Dmac. Give his the ball 7 times a game, he’s a bust. Give it to him 20+ he’s a beast.

You have to keep feeding these guys the damn ball. They should not have to be wide open for you to throw it to them. A small window is all it takes.

  • raiderdeek

Forgot to not be so negative on the team by adding some positive, feel good comments. I do think we have a good shot to win this week. I just really hope our o-line and JC are up to the task of the managing the Hawks pass rush and blitzing.

On a side note…As a Cal fan, I would love to see Carroll lose for once in the East Bay. Hate that guy. Go Raiders!

  • McRaider5150

On passing downs, we go to the jumbo or unbalanced lines, and Campbell can go into controlled rollouts. They’ll be fine. Run blocking is more important.

There’s no reason we should lose to seattle. Hasselbeck is a joke. Got to watch out for lynch. They just play like crap on the road. Plus the black hole will be crazy and loud this week. When do we find out if game is sold out.

Tom Cable will be Coach of the year!

Raiders will win the AFC West!

Raiders will send 5 players to the pro-bowl!

All the credit belongs to one of the greatest owners in all of professional sports…Coach Davis!!

  • Jimbo

Raiders will be successfull with a 60/40 run/pass ratio. With about 25 attempts per game and if they can get about 8 yards per attempt, if the stud DMAC can continue his 5.5 ypc, then no problems.

Sorry, this isn’t the case w/ DHB. He needs a electronic garage gate to open and feed him the ball.

Bruce Gradkowski (shoulder) missed Raiders practice Wednesday.

Jason Campbell took all of the first-team reps. Coach Tom Cable promises to start Gradkowski when healthy, but quarterbacks that can’t practice on game planning-heavy Wednesdays almost never start on Sundays. Out since Week 5, Gradkowski may target Oakland’s Week 10 bye after which to return.

  • Jimbo

One game DHB had I think 12 targets and 3 catches! How much more do you want to feed him. Those drops or noncatches lead to 3 and outs!

I’d rather take my chances on a guy that can actually catch the damn ball.

Ford, Nick Miller, JLH even….all are NFL quality.

DHB…one of these is not like the other.

  • McRaider5150

Seattle is number 2 against the run and number 29 against the pass.

4 out of the 6 teams they played are last in rushing offense.

we should be fine if we block and protect the ball.

  • HairyBush

Rookie Jacoby Ford worked as the starting flanker in Raiders practice Wednesday.

Louis Murphy (bruised lung) is not expected to play in Week 8, so Ford is the likely bookend for Darrius Heyward-Bey. A modestly productive receiver at Clemson, Ford came off the bench for two catches and 15 yards during last week’s win over Denver. Ford also chipped in 29 yards on a pair of end-arounds, but would be an unattractive “sleeper” start against Seattle.

The only thing that kind of worries me this weekend, is Murph not playing, and being relaced w/ our shrimpy receivers. Don’t know how much confidence Campbell has in his other receivers. But if he plays effecient football like last week, we’ll be OK.

    ^^^^^^^^^^

All of which is why we need to play action pass them to death. take some early shots to Ford and open up the run lanes. Get a lead like we did in Denver and play downhill.

  • raiderdeek

There is probably a 0.000000001% chance that the Raiders sell out this weekend. But i think there is a 99.9999999% chance that the crowd will be the larger than the Rams game or Houston game. Think we will actually have somewhat of a 12th man.
