McClain will talk in exchange for sellout
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, November 1st, 2010 at 11:29 am in Oakland Raiders.
Rolando McClain at first declined comment, as has been his policy since the season opener at Tennessee.
Then he thought about it for a moment and said, “Wait, I’ve got one thing to say.”
“If the fans come out and we can sell out a damn game, I’ll talk to the media,” McClain said. “Until then . . . I need full fan support.”
McClain spoke to the media in the days leading up to the opener against Tennessee, then after the game.
The Raiders drew 35,721 Sunday for a 33-3 win over Seattle, their 11th consecutive blackout. With a head of steam after two consecutive wins for the first time since the end of the 2008 season, the Raiders, 4-4, host the Kansas City Chiefs this week.
A handful of players available following second straight win. Tight end Zach Miller, who has been playing with an arch injury, was spotted on crutches. Coach Tom Cable will hold his weekly press briefing at 2 p.m.
More to come later . . .

The Raiders are rising through the ranks as the offense Al Davis is drawing up in the Necronomicon is finally coming into being. The last two weeks have shown that the Raiders offense can put up points and the AFC West will be taking a whole new shape.

Chris Johnson didn’t play either!

If the Raiders can play like this consistently, I dont think there will be any issues with sell outs. Big offense and shutting down the opposing offense = big crowds.

NATION!
Here’s the statistical breakdown of the KC game:
Raiders pass offense is putting up 197.5 yds/gm
KC’s pass defense is allowing 236.3 yds/gm
Raiders run offense is putting up 168.5 yds/gm
KC’s run defense is allowing 96.4 yds/gm
KC’s pass offense is generating 164.4 yds/gm
Raiders pass defense is allowing 182.6 yds/gm
KC’s run offense is generating 190.4 yds/gm
Raiders run defense is allowing 127.4 yds/gm
KC’s got a stingy run defense and a suspect defensive backfield. On offense, they’ve got a powerful run attack and a QB who’s expected to be a game manager.
Sounds an awful lot like Seattle to me.
I think the gameplan is gonna look the same: focus on stopping the run, pressure the game manager QB into making some mistakes, try to air the ball out on offense to attack their weak secondary and impose our will on both sides of the line of scrimmage.
Basically, if the Raiders play next Sunday like they did yesterday, they’ll win.

I agree.
Chiefs have a lot of the same redzone struggles the Raiders have. Charles and Jones ran all over the Bills yesterday and the offense could still only generate 13 points.
Even if the Raiders D goes into “bend don’t break” mode, I think we win if the o-line lets Campbell get into the groove he was feeling yesterday.
Veldheer is gonna have a huge test against Tamba Hali, that’s for sure.

If Randy Moss(notes) doesn’t give up on this play, Brett Favre(notes) doesn’t get injured. And if Brett Favre doesn’t get injured, maybe the Minnesota Vikings go on to beat the New England Patriots and maybe Moss doesn’t give his bizarre, postgame self-conference and maybe Percy Harvin(notes) doesn’t take shots at Brad Childress and maybe the Vikes are 3-4 today and thinking playoffs instead of 2-5 and thinking about cleaning house in the offeason

Raiders TE Miller (foot) on crutches Monday
Zach Miller was on crutches Monday following the Raiders’ Week 8 win over the Seahawks.
Miller finished the game with just one catch for eight yards, which is uncharacteristic for a player who’s been borderline dominant this season, entering Week 8 as the No. 2 overall fantasy tight end. Miller was limited in practice last week with an “arch” injury in his foot. We’re concerned that he aggravated the injury, resulting in his least productive game of the year. Nov. 1 – 2:39 pm et

He gives the Krafts a play maker in Randy Moss for a hand shake a third round pick and a “you owe me one.” In return, Al gets Seymour a hand shake a first round pick and an I will get you for screwing me in the end!

Mistic,
1. DHB has finally had 1 good game after the last 2 years.
2. JC finally has a very good game after 6 games this year, esp against the Niners.
3. JC finally threw his body out there to make up for all the bs he gave us in Tenn.
4. I think you should gloat this week but at least gloat for the right reasons. Dont brag about the 1st half when the coach and the player admitted they didnt do well.
So no I am not a believer in these guys yet. I hope they prove me wrong. I’d like to see them perform at this level for a few more games. Right now, they are just making up for their earlier bad games.
I consider myself a fair person. For example, I didnt like DMAC but I think DMAC is finally proving himself after putting together a string of very good performance. Respect is earned on the field not based on scouting reports or media hype.

McClain not speaking doesnt bother me a bit, although he doesnt have the most approachable personality. His play on the field will always be louder than his words in a press conference anyway, and as long as he continues to progress in stopping the run & knocking the sh’t outta Qbs the only thing we need to hear is the screams coming from whoever collides with him.

Can you really see Moss being okay with JC’s game management and check downs? I see him getting frustrated after about 1 or 2 quarters and maybe squirting JC with a water bottle at half time while he isn’t looking. Our whole team right now is playing as 1 unit…Moss will ruin that for sure…I know what you’re saying…he’s talented and can score on any play but we passed on TO this year because of his attitude and me-first attitude…Moss is looking a whole lot worse than TO right now. He got dumped by 2 teams in a matter of 3 weeks! Something is obviously wrong with him.

November 1st, 2010 at 12:59 pm
We have to talk about the long td to DHB.
campbell takes a deep drop, and niftly slithers away from the pressure up the gut ( satele got manhandled), pump fakes freezing the safety and throws a perfect pass. Beyond the db but in front of the safety closing down over the top. Campbell putting on a show cementing his status as certified draft day steal, Al davis special.
DHb shakes the db who tried to bump him at the line scrimage and then smokes him down the sideline. Turns back to the qb to set up the pump fake spins away and gets separation by about 3 yds. he isnt supposed to be able to get separation by many peoples thought process here. The ball is thrown to his back shoulder, with the safety closing fast he turns back and adjust to the ball in flight and makes the catch again tap dancing on the side line. I believe a few of us have noted that when he learns to adjust to the ball in flight we would see his game take off. After securing the ball he spins again away from the defenders and torches them for the longest pass td of the year!
Wow, these dudes are on their way. Kneel impostors..kneel before the greatness that is the oakland raiders.

The only complaint I have actually coming from this game is that our offense isn’t as good as the stats looked. We are not able to complete passes to WRs generally and eventually teams will shut down the screen passes.
Campbell got more receiving yards to the RBs than to the WRs and TEs combined. We would only have had about 70 yards receiving except for that one last pass to DHB where he broke the long one.
But, I think that’s more a result of 1. We’re playing well to Campbell’s strength. He doesn’t seem to throw to the WRs well and….2. our Top 2 WRs are out now.
If we can keep it up we can keep winning though!

Looking at the schedule, Miami (Brandon Marshall) and San Diego (whoever Rivers is throwing to) are the only matchups that might be difficult without Nnamdi. And even then, the Raiders beat SD in spite of Nnamdi having one of his worse games.
The Steelers and the Chiefs are teams where the Raiders pass rush can be successful.
Assuming Nnamdi is back in time to shut down Reggie Wayne, the Raiders won’t be in such bad shape.
Now it’s time for Johnson, Routt, Ware, Huff, Brown, and McFadden to step up. Their workloads are going to increase in Nnamdi’s absence.

Yeah and Rivers wouldn’t have had over 400 yds. passing if he didn’t complete those long passes to Floyd.

Having Nnamdi around to handle Mike Wallace and Brandon Marshall (or even Davone Bess; dude is way underrated) would give a huge boost to the chances of winning.
No Wallace = no deep threat for Pittsburgh. Nnamdi covered Wallace last year and held him to 2 catches for 19 yards.
Of course Ward and Holmes were torching Routt and CJ the whole game….but Holmes is gone now and Ward is in decline. Meanwhile, Wallace is a star on the rise.

If Zmiller can’t go the Raiders will start Myers at TE with Barnes as TE2 (blocking TE)
or they could always drop Bruce Davis and grab Tony Stewart to fill in for a few weeks

Yeah, I wouldn’t be uncomfortable with Myers and Stewart, they have gotten it done in the past. But it would be nice to have another guy drawing double coverage in Miller’s absence.
I don’t expect the Raiders to grab Moss, really. But I do think it would be fun to watch the Raiders use him for a game and then discard him to he becomes someone else’s problem yet again.

two more points on DHB. The db grabbed him tried to hold him and DHB was to physical for him to handle. You just dont have very many guys that are that big strong and fast! The davis formula beating down the haters.
Also his teammates love him. When he came off the field a every single raider player and coach made a point to congratulate him. He has the respect of the team for the way he handles his business. his hard work is starting to pay off on the field, he owned the seagullss, and he owns you.

If you are taking away our wins as not that good, then whats that say about your so called team on the rise? They needed 5 quarters and a prayer to sneak past the worst team in football (0-7 bills). The BEST team KC has beaten is the 4-4 Jags. The Seahawks were 4-2, in the lead in their division, and sporting the 2nd best run D this year, and we destroyed them.

100% correct. It’s how we beat them that really mattered. Look at the Niners beat Denver. It was nothing special. How we beat Denver and followed up with another trashing by the D is phenomenal. This Dline is currently playing as dominating as the Oline of 2002.

They didn’t just beat those teams. They soundly whipped their butts. If they barely got by these teams, then I would be a lot more concerned.
But I agree, they need to follow up these two beatdowns with a convincing victory over the Chiefs. Not only are the Chiefs playing well. Not only are they division rivals. Not only do they need to get above .500. But it’s a home game. The Raiders need to claim that house as their own. Houston needs to be the only home loss this season. Period.

Citing a league source, Profootballtalk.com reports that Nnamdi Asomugha has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain.
Asomugha could put no weight on his right ankle while being carried off the field Sunday, so it’s not surprising that the injury has proven serious. The usual timetable for high ankle sprains is 4-6 weeks. Asomugha almost certainly is out until after the Raiders’ Week 10 bye. Oakland will have to roll with Stanford Routt, rookie Jeremy Ware, and Chris Johnson as its top three corners in the meantime. It’s a significant downgrade.

November 1st, 2010 at 1:44 pm
If Zach Miller and Nnamdi are out, we’ll get to see what this team is really made of. We wouldn’t let SD fans get away with “we played without Jackson and McNeil!” as an excuse, so it shouldn’t be an excuse for the Raiders. Good teams get it done with the players they have.
And I think that, if anything, it’ll help the Raiders not blow this game because of overconfidence, like they have done in the past. They know that two of their leaders are hurt. They know this KC team is improving. They remember what Thomas Jones did here last year.
It feels like finally the Raiders realize they have to play lights-out football for four quarters to come away with a win. They’ve done it two weeks in a row. If they can put together a three-game streak going into the bye, they’ll come out of it well-rested and in good shape.

Wrong. Speed kills. How can a team double DHB and single up on the other speed burners. Or expose the linbackers leaving them to cover reece and dmac. The only way would be to take out the lb’s and play more db’s, nickle and dime packages. But if you do that we will run the ball down your throats. Not only that but you have to leave at least one safety high because the raiders have put on tape for every team to see, that they will throw it deep, and score touchdowns doing it.

RR, is McFadden cleared to play?
I thought he was still injured?
November 1st, 2010 at 2:03 pm
without Nnamdi we’re gonna have to pressure Cassel more
without Zmiller we’re gonna have to rely on McFadden, Bush & Reece in the passing game more
November 1st, 2010 at 2:04 pm
I was wrong about the pick, it was a 3rd however, are you sure minny doesnt have to pick up the tab?
****************************************************
Naw….Buffalo get the first choice and 1st crack at picking up the contract. If he clears waivers then he’s an unrestricted free agent and can write a new deal should a new team try to pick him up. Minny would only be liable for a portion of his contract if they traded Moss and agreed to take a portion of his contract. Sucks that NFL contract are not guaranteed.

DHB played well but a #1 reciever not yet…he has to do that week in and week out against double coverage and defensive focus.
but he is playing MUCH better than last year..
and his speed works even if he doesnt go deep, the coverage has to play off a little and keep the threat of the fade route in their mind, that should make the comeback availaible (as seen yesterday)
==========================================================
===============================================
The reason they took DHB is guys 6′2″, 225, with major college experience that run 4.25 forties don’t come around that often. In fact not only was DHB the only guy with those skills in his draft, there was no one in the last draft either with that skill set. Sure, he’s a project. We all knew that. But the point I am making is no one has brought up the forty yard reverse run he ran, where he just blows thru a 190lb corner. DHB is a big strong dude. In addition to being fast.

I would love to have Moss’s talent, but not his attitude. Too bad you can’t have one without the other.
November 1st, 2010 at 2:05 pm
rockstar i agree with the game plan for sure but loseing zach a huge blow simply cause of his blocking. He’s part of the reason the run games been so well. Dont mind seing wwhat the rookies have to offer but not this game
November 1st, 2010 at 2:12 pm
diehard: Myers is an excellent blocker and we all know that Barnes at TE is a mismatch for almost anybody in the run game
CJ37 & Routt will start at corner, but the rooks will see some work in nickel & dime packages
no big deal.
Raiders win 38-21

8th in offense in the league overall
9th in defense in the league overall
not bad!

I’m telling you guys right now that there is NO CHANCE KC beats us if we shut down their ground game. NONE
and by “shut down” I don’t mean less than 100 total rushing yards combined Charles/Jones/McCluster
I see something like 25 attempts for 125 yards and 1 TD = Raiders win

what exactly am i wrong about? that DHb is not yet a #1? there is more to defensive focus than simple double teams.
lets just for argument sake say that you are correct and that you cant double him because of underneath routes (TE, Reese, DMAC etc.) and our other wideouts..you can still draw stronger cover corners. you still make the def coordinator keep at least one safey deep. it might make a corner refrain from bump and run…
cortland finnegan and champ bailey, jammer almost every top corner we have faced so far has not locked up on DHB. they have either played a mix of zone or those corners covered murphy.
A #1 reciever gets that attention. and he still puts up consistent #s most weeks despite that attention. DHB has not faced the attention nor put up consistent #’s
The situation about pulling LBs and running nickel/dime units, that you are describing is the exact dilemna that a balanced offense presents a defense. that is the ultimate goal. to have a solid run game that demands attention but also the ability to get the ball to play making wideouts and tight ends.
so i repeat what was i wrong about?

‘Sup fellas.
RRS,
After that tough loss to the Niners I said that was a tough one to take, but I still believe Tom Cable has this team heading in the right direction.
You came on and said Buckeye, Cable has accomplished NOTHING. He has this team headed NOWHERE.
After these last two weeks would you care to reconsider?

We’re ranked 15th overall in the power rankings.
If we win Sunday vs the Chiefs..I wonder where we’ll be at?
November 1st, 2010 at 2:30 pm
I know in the overall grand scheme of things it doesn’t mean a thing. Just the way the team is percieved nationally and all. But, gawd I hate BSPN. NFL Monday Primetime and the only two highlights they show are the two deflected plays. The one to Bush and the int by Branch. It’s like they tried to spin it that Oakland got lucky.
No mention of 8 sacks or 240 yds rushing vs. No. 2 ranked run D.
I don’t know why I let it bother me, but it does. Pizzes me off actually.

Typical Organizational Response, McClain. How about the fans who were there, Rolando? Screw them, too?
November 1st, 2010 at 2:39 pm
If the front 7 plays like it did yesterday, we can play with anybody. and a team like the chiefs doesnt stand a chance. The most concerning thing this week is the Z Miller injury, that could completely change how to prepare for our offense and Romeo Crennel is a great coordinator

It’s nice to have season tickets for the first time in 7 years. GO RAIDERS!
November 1st, 2010 at 2:47 pm
Seriously? I for one do not care if RoMac says anything to the media/fans. In fact I want him to go all season without opening his pie-hole. Just Win Baby!
Point me to one interview an Oakland Raider has given this year that actually contains anything news worthy?

This game against KC should sell out actually.
They need to stick with Campbell since he is the hot hand, but if he starts off slow and starts playing like he is in lala land again….pull him and and get Grads in there ASAP!

Who cares….

People we have to show up and support this team! It’s been too long since we’ve had hope like this. Take advantage of their 2 for 1 deal and let’s sell this place out Sunday! RAAAAAAAIDERS!!!!

I am a big Bruce Gradkowski supporter but Tom Cable need to ride with Jason Campbell until he start going back into that shell. I work in Washington DC and watched Jason go through a different offensive coordinator every year he was with the Redskins. Under the circumstances he did a good job. As in baseball I look at Jason Campbell as a starting pitcher and Bruce Gradkowski as a relief pitcher or closer. Cable can break tradition by playing both of them.
