    I’m all Raiders now!

You should see these Raider oversized cleat slippers I picked up Saturday, lol!

I’ll catch up on the Lakers around Xmas. Or maybe Valentines day since our boy B says that’s when they’ll start trying.

Jerry Mac is going to answer all the tough questions. injury report and the work schedule leading up to Pittsburgh is what interests me the most

No he’s not. He’ll answer sicko groupies questions about his teenage daughter.

    Dell,

    Multitaksing Raiders and Lakers ????

    HILARIOUS.

It was a little tough this past Sunday. 5 year old and 9 month old on hold from 1pm to 10pm? They’re not having that man, lol.

The fact that the game went on until 5 didn’t help either. Would’ve been a nice 3 hr gap for fam bam time.

Picking my battles man, picking my battles.

  8. BigLefty Says:

The D-Line is the key to our success!!!!

We will go as they go

Seymour is a BEAST ant Tommy Kelly is playing to a whole different level compared to last year We also cant forget about that Irish guy Matt Shaughnessy. He needs to get more reps

  9. Jimbo Says:

The game went on and on last Sunday. Past 8 oclock and had to put the kids to sleep. I was like, please Raids just get this over! It finally ended about quarter after Eight.

But the nice thing is that daylight savings time tricks kids into thinking it’s nighttime.

you’re probably right. between the pair of us he was asked about starting TE Brandon Myers 10 times last chat and went unaddressed

  12. J Hill Says:

but I lack confidence that DHB can consistently help us more than he hurts us.

    ——————————————————-

    Jimbo,

I’m right there with you in terms of if the ball is coming his way on a play that matters. 3rd and 5, end zone, taking a ball away from a defender, etc. Basically, all the things you’d expect a #7 pick to do. Right there with you.

But …… I’ve put all that aside and accepted what we’ve been repeatedly told is his role.

The best “clearer outter” in the league.

How else can we explain Zach Miller’s emergence? Why is he not doubled?

Louis Murphy gets single coverage as well.

Dmac no longer faces 8 man fronts.

    Good job DHB!

Lmao! Now your trying to back off?!?! You are back sliding like micheal jackson in the billie jean video!

You called me a homer, you are wrong. I am just a raider fan that tried to educate you on football in general and qb play specifically. Yes indeed bra, Cambell beat the hell out of you! Stall out the wishy washy bs and stick to your guns. Now you “actually like jc” that is a load of crap. Heat may be better off trading Bosh

    Jason Whitlock
    Updated Nov 9, 2010 10:51 AM ET

By the end of this week, Chris Bosh’s seat might be hotter than Erik Spoelstra’s.

Whenever the Miami Heat lose a game, Twitter erupts with Pat Riley-to-replace-Spoelstra jokes.

Maybe it’s true. Or maybe Pat Riley sees what I see. Chris Bosh is too soft to be the third wheel of the “Big Three.” You could see it Friday night when New Orleans center Emeka Okafor stitched clown suits for the Miami bigs in the Heat’s second loss of the young season.

A career 13-point scorer, Okafor dropped 26 and 13 on the Heat, sinking 12 of 13 shots. Off the bench, New Orleans reserve power forward Jason Smith, a second-year 7-footer, added 12 points and six boards. Toss in Chris Paul’s 19 dimes, and the Hornets pretty much duplicated the formula Boston used to upset Miami — excellent point guard play (Rajon Rondo 17 assists) and front-court dominance at both ends of the court (51 points and 31 rebounds from Shaq, Big Baby, KG and Paul Pierce).

It’s a formula the Utah Jazz will try to duplicate Tuesday night at AmericanAirlines Arena with Deron Williams, Paul Milsap and Al Jefferson. And then Thursday, the Celtics travel to Miami for a rematch.

This is an important two-game test for Bosh.

We all pretty much agree LeBron James and Dwyane Wade are capable of impersonating Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Does Bosh have any Dennis Rodman, Horace Grant or Charles Oakley in his 6-foot-11, 235-pound frame?

Is Bosh a homeless man’s Dirk Nowitzki, a perimeter big man who put up inflated scoring and rebounding numbers because when visiting NBA players cross the Canadian border they put far more effort into acquiring condoms, loonies and a strip-club champagne room than their on-court assignments?

On the NBA circuit, Toronto is White Vegas, where jungle fever is celebrated by local strippers and escorts 41 times a year. Toronto is a great city to put up numbers and build a rep.

Miami, post-The Decision, is the perfect place to get exposed.

The Heat don’t need a Big Three. Wade and James need a rebounding and defensive goon.

The Great Ones — particularly finesse players — always need a Dave Semenko. (Oh, you thought I couldn’t make a hockey analogy?)

Jordan had Oakley and Grant and Rodman. Magic had Rambis. Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars had Bill Laimbeer, Rick Mahorn and Rodman. Kobe had Shaq and now he has Ron Artest.

Look at Boston’s “Big Three.” Kevin Garnett is a trash-talking, cheap-shot-taking goon.

James and Wade could both beat up Chris Bosh. The third wheel, especially if he’s a front-court player, can’t be the softest of the trio. It won’t work. It screws up chemistry. It’s going to make the Heat vulnerable to big, strong rebounding and defensive teams.

It allows a good post scorer — Okafor — to masquerade as Moses Malone for a night.

Bosh had one rebound against the Hornets. He’s averaging 5.4 boards through seven games — five fewer than he averaged in White Vegas last season.

Udonis Haslem and Joel Anthony can’t fix this. They’re not long enough, bulky enough, tough enough, talented enough or hyper enough to give the Heat what they’ll need to beat the serious title contenders (Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Antonio) or maybe even the pretenders (New Orleans, Orlando, Atlanta) in a seven-game series.

Miami’s lone 7-footer, Zyndrunas Ilgauskas, is a spot-up shooter. He’s not a defender. He can only give the Heat 15 good minutes.

Jordan’s Bulls not only employed Rodman and Grant, but Phil Jackson kept a stable of assignment-sound big defenders (Bill Cartwright, Luc Longley, Bill Wennington, Will Perdue, Scott Williams).

Bosh has to step up. This week.

By Christmas, if he hasn’t drastically changed his approach and production, Pat Riley will surely explore every option to move Bosh and acquire a goon.

OK, I’m not an NBA trade expert. I don’t fully grasp how you get the contracts to match up and the value of “expiring” contracts. I’m just going to suggest the kind of players who could make James and Wade as lethal as Jordan and Pippen.

Cleveland’s Anderson Varejao and Houston’s Luis Scola should be at the top of Riley’s wish list.

Varejao is ideal. He’s high energy. He’s 6-10. He’s played with LeBron. Scola is off to a ridiculous start in Houston, putting up 22 and 12 through six games. Scola (and Varejao) makes half as much money as Bosh. Scola and Jared Jeffries, a Houston sub and good passer, could make a huge impact in Miami. (Yes, I think Jeffries, in the right situation, can be an effective role player!)

By the way, the Heat aren’t the only Eastern Conference title contender who should be looking for a toughness upgrade. Orlando needs similar help. Sans Dwight Howard, the Magic are as soft as any team in the league.

If I’m Doc Rivers, I rest my stars all season, settle for a healthy playoff roster and the eight seed and expose the Heat and the Magic in the postseason.

If I’m Pat Riley, I watch the next two games very closely. If things go poorly for Bosh, I bring Dwyane Wade into my office and question him about how upset he and LeBron will be if the “Big Three” undergoes an official name change.

The “Big Two” makes the most sense.

  22. J Hill Says:

    Grads or Campbell….

People keep saying Grads accuracy isnt that great relative to Campbell….My response?

    Stats can be deceiving.

One must keep in mind (and whats COMPLETELY LOST on all this) is that Grads throws are MOSTLY downfield…NOT dumpoffs/checkdowns.

If you dont include screens and or running back receptions Grad is MUCH more accurate than Campbell.

Plus, Grad WILL take some chances on tight coverage while JC is much less likely to throw the ball unless a receiver is wide open. Grads rarely misfires on wide open receivers. Campbell does. Grad’s incompletions are mostly in tight coverage or outright WR drops.

Also, there is no arguing that Grads release is much quicker than JC’s. This results in fewer fumbles/sack fumbles.

Finally, Grad has that unquantifiable ‘it’/spark plug factor. He gets the team up MUCH more than JC does. Not a slam on JC, its just the way it is.

    No brainer start —> GRAD

PS The Problem? L0RD AL wants JC….

The analysis below is from an FF site. They are all getting excited about Ford. Pity that he will likely slide back into the depth chart/obscurity. I’d not pick up Ford on a fantasy team because DHB is not going anywhere.

But I’d love to find a way to Ford more involved.

    ______________________________
Jacoby Ford, OAK – *** POTENTIAL WAIVER WIRE GEM *** – Ford was the hero of the game on Sunday, making several huge catches in clutch situations. Five of Ford’s six catches came in the fourth quarter. With just over 11 minutes left and the Raiders up by one, Ford caught a 37-yard pass that QB Campbell under threw to the inside, so that Ford had to fight his way through the DB to come back and catch the ball. Ford’s real heroics came at the very end of the game. With 30 seconds left and the Raiders trailing by three, Ford made a tough catch along the right sideline in traffic for a 19-yard gain that would have put the Raiders in good field goal position, but the play was called back for offensive holding, moving them out of field goal range. No matter. On the very next play, Ford made a truly spectacular catch in the middle of the field for 29 yards to set up the game-tying field goal. The ball was thrown to Chiefs CB Brandon Flowers, but Ford came over the top of Flowers from behind to grab the ball away. On the Raiders first offensive play in overtime, Ford laid out for a 47-yard bomb that set up the game-winning field goal. Jacoby Ford is a rookie fourth-round pick out of Clemson with elite speed, but he proved against the Chiefs that he is not just a track star: he is a football player. In his second NFL start, he showed a natural ability to adjust to the ball in the air, and the strength and determination to wrestle it away from the defender. He finished with 6 receptions for 148 yards (along with the TD on the kickoff return). Ford got his chance because Louis Murphy was out with an injury, but he played too well to fade back into obscurity in the Raiders offense. Expect Ford to play a prominent role in the Raiders passing game going forward. He should a top priority on the fantasy waiver wires this week. The only note of caution is that Ford was used mostly as a vertical threat, and like David Gettis and Danario Alexander, he won’t take future opponents by surprise.

Deep Down I think the coaches know Grads runs the offense better. But they may also feel like this is the best the Raiders have played since Al Davis started wearing pull-ups. No way you mess with that streak until you need to.

Campbell may not run like a rabbit, but he seems to have a Rabbit Foot hold on our results.

I think this is well said.

The goal in the Pittsburgh game should be to get creative offensively, get the ball out of the QB’s hands quickly and move the pocket when neccecary.

Unless we get immaculate protection (TM), it will be tough to sling ‘em downfield all day.

Over the last few years when things were pretty bleak, I watched a lot of NFL Films and other specials on the Raider Legends of Old.

It’s just a blast to watch that stuff because of how nasty those teams were. In the 70s, just ripping guys’ heads off man.

Even in the 80s, where you couldn’t get away with that as much, our defensive fronts were still relentless.

You should check out Hulu.com, they have a lot of cool free videos. They toss in some commericals, but the picture quality is much better than say google or youtube and it’s professional, like a real broadcast.

It does matter who takes the snaps. When Grads plays, we lose. When JC starts, we win. In record-breaking fashion I might add. That’s my problem with the pro-Grads outfit. Why do you want him to play? What’s the upside?
    *******
At the time, JC started against Tennessee and stunk up the joint, and was well on his way to doing the same against STL. Our oline wasnt playing nearly as well and Jason wasnt motivating them. Things have changed now and I agree that JC SHOULD BE STARTING. Im sick of people on both sides of the fence rooting so desperately for their guy to win that they would rather see the team lose then be wrong.
    ==========================================================

So many people that said campbell couldnt cut it, are people that have barely watched him play out side of this season. You among others now claim “you dont care” who plays. When before you clearly had the opinion that wanted grads.

What has happened to all of the Grads guys passion suddenly? Ill tell you what happened. Jason Campbell’s play on the field has shut down the hype.

Instead of giving Campbell credit, you say the o-line is much better. Sunday the o-line had a horrific game. They were called for several penalties, many killed drives and took us out of scoring position. They also were being abused in pass protection. They coughed up four sacks, had plenty of hits and pressures, and made Life miserable for campbell. he was forced to make almost as many throws on the run as he did from the pocket.

I was there with a front row seat. I watched it on dvr later, it was even worse the second time.

It wasnt the o-line that won on sunday, it was all Campbell and Ford.

Im not surprised that some of you would rather pass off empty folklore in lieu of the facts. If that makes it easier for you to swallow, knock yourself out.

    ^^^^^^^
We need to run some misdirection plays also against Pitt….keep them off balance and run QB roll out plays and play action and move the pocket.

The Bungles were stupid last night….they got away from the run too soon and they kept running straight drop backs from Palmer staying in the pocket and that is stupid. Keeping a QB in the pocket the whole time on pass plays against the Steelers is IDIOTIC.

I also think the Raiders need to run the Wildcat formation more with DMC, Bush, and Reece in backfield….that can keep the Steeler defense off balance also.

Reece needs to be used as both a runner and receiver against Pitt and I also think the Raiders should bring in Bruce Campbell as a blocking FB on short yardage and goal line plays to pound the crap out a Steeler D-Linemen or Polamalu!

  69. DutchRaider77 Says:

When we talk about Grads v. Campbell and who gives us the best chance to win; I think it all comes down to the O-line:
When the O-Line blocks and gives the QB a legitmate shot, I think Campbell is the better option. When the O-Line becomes carboard cut-outs, I think Gradkowski quicker release and pocket presenece gives us a better shot to win.
Campbell’s cutting it lose, taking chances and staying away from Captain Checkdown gives my support to stay with the hot hand. Over the past three weeks we have finally seen Campbell’s balls drop and become a man!

Cambpell/Gradkowski are not Peyton Manning and therefore do not require Manning contracts. With Campbell/Gradkowski at the helm we can get playmakers around them to make them better.

But aren’t we in a good situation to pick up a Franchise QB deep deep in the draft and groom them to be the heir. With Tollner, Hackett and Jackson to tutor them for a couple years? With Campbell and Grakowski on the roster we can spare the third QB spot for a rookie?

    La,

I agree we will have to move the pocket vs pitt. I just dont think our o-line can match up against their front seven, and there blitz scheme.

This entire game is about our o-line vs. the pitt front 7, although many folks are confident on this issue, the kc game was not encouraging.

Campbell was forced to scramble and create far too often. Your qb needs to be able to drop back and run the offense.
Points and field position will be difficult to come by, so we cant afford all of the o-line penalties.

We also need to scrap the gimmick trick stuff. Im fine with misdirection, reverses, the zone read and pistol package, special teams fakes, and wild hog stuff should be left out of the plan.

We will need our qb and receivers to be sharp, and in a rythm early. Out side of Troy P, there secondary is only ok. There corners can and should be tested in the short and intermediate game and see if we can get Troy to cheat up. A heavy dose of dmac is also needed. He will struggle early. I could see one of those 85 yds on 25 carries type of games. One the pitt defense gets really aggressive, and starts really charge hard toward the line, our play action will give us some shots down the field.

Our team will go only as far as this o-line will take them.

That wasnt the only penalty on the o-line. veldheer played well, for a rookie starting across from a vet like hali. He handled it well at times, and other times he was taken to school and giving up pressures. He gets a pass because he is a rook, and he is an upgrade over henderson.

When you add his mistakes in with the rest of the o-lines whiffs and blunders, its a horror film.

    ===========================================================

    Aig,

this is weak. I have never said campbell is my savior. I have stated on more than one occasion that i didnt think the team was very good. Although jason campbell and the raiders are proving to be better than i thought, im still not sold on this team.

Campbell with out a doubt is a major upgrade over Grads, not only gives the best chance to win as a starter, but all of the intangibles he brings to the table cant be questioned. He is the leader, and he is doing it in classic raider qb fashion. Either blowing teams away, or gutting it out to win in the final seconds, with the long ball.

However that wont be enough to beat the best teams in the league. You will need more consistent play from your receivers, and better pass protection. The o-line in my opinion is the one glaring weakness that remains must be addressed in the draft in order to move to the next level.

My take has never changed other than being surprised that they actually should be better than a 6-7 win team like i thought they would be. I think they can challenge for this division, but they wouldnt go far in post season, if they do qualify. That in my mind is still a big if.

I cant argue with the fact that we gained yards with dmac running, but i still dont like it.

The main reasons i dont like the formation. it takes your qb out of the play. this is a mistake in a lot of ways.

Campbell is a rhythm passer. When he gets of early and gets in a grove he can light it up, like we saw in denver and seattle. When he doesnt get off early it looks like last weeks first half. This has been his m.o since auburn. Lots of good pros are this way. Elway under sham-a-han would get early boot legs. Steve young would get some early slants. Campbell like these guys needs rhythm early.

Our receivers also play better when they get action early in the game. Especially DHB, he plays much better when he gets an early catch in the game. Sunday he dropped his first chance and then turned in his worst game of the year.

Our qb is a weapon, the wild hog takes this weapon out of play.

Ok some valid points. Please tell me how JLH is a shell of his play, two years ago, and what makes you think, excluding Jacoby Ford, Nick Miller is better than JLH. I mean Miller has been catching everything his way, like one catch so far in the NFL.

To the semi-professional bloggers, you know who you are.

The past few weeks, I have observed prior to the games against Seattle and K.C. Daniel Loper, as a center in the pre snap portion of the game. The raider organization, would like to keep Veldheer as a LT, but Loper must give us some options. He also was in the shot gun and looked real good.

So before we start cutting somebody like the player you hate most, let’s look at the long term plan and the organization recognizes the need for a back up center also.

Finally, to BSJ, I haven’t seen Loper try Long snapping yet, so keep your fingers crossed.

  136. aig-raiders Says:

I get so effin annoyed with this 3 game win streak by JC that I decided to do some homework and here is how I am going to DEBUNK this effin myth about JC winning 3 games.

Vs DEN – they scored 14 points. Can Boller start and we still win…..effin YEAH.

    1st-10, DEN20 10:36 C. Johnson intercepted K. Orton for 30 yard touchdown

1st-10, DEN20 10:02 D. Thomas rushed to the right for 1 yard gain. D. Thomas fumbled. L. Houston recovered fumble

2nd-8, DEN16 9:46 K. Orton rushed to the left for 7 yard gain. K. Orton fumbled. T. Branch recovered fumble and returned for 12 yards

—Those 3 plays alone by the D gave us 13 points. So yeah even Boller would have won.

vs SEA – They scored 3 points.

our rushing offense got 239 yds at 6.1 per carry. Do you think Boller would have lost with that.

So let’s stop with this 3 game JC win streak BS already. He got lucky riding coat tail of the other parts of our team. It was no surprise to me he sucked against KC and will do so again in Pitt. Anyone of our QB’s could have won those 2 games.
