Note to the Troy Smith haters (and I know a specific one on this blog from this offseason). Troy Smith put the team on his back repeatedly yesteday, and in 2 games did what Alex Smith and JaPuke couldnt do in a combined 12 years and 15 OC’s.
Have a good day.

Troy Smith had a QB rating of 159.7 at Ohio ST. but his stock went down when the Buckeyes were demolished by Florida in the 2007 BCS game. The opposite of JaMarcus’s stock going up because of 1 BCS performance.
He won the Heisman and McFadden finished 2nd. 2 game QB raing this year of 116.6 not too shabby. Much superior QB to J.C.

I never have considered gannon or a Garcia great players, nor have i ever seen them as qbs that could win a superbowl.
I thought they were limited journeymen qb’s, with extreme competitive fire and grit. However they were both more or less workmen like overachievers, that made up for their lack of star talent. Even though gannon and garcia are way ahead of smith and campbell in terms of nfl achievement, i believe that smith and campbell have the potential to be better qb’s than the former.
There is no question in my mind that cambell and smith are far more naturally talented than the former, and Campbell’s career 6 years in is already ahead of both garcia and gannon at the same points in their career.

A clandestine Al Davis science experiment to blend the fire, passion, and leadership of a true competitor with the uber-athletic body of the purest downfield passer in decades has yielded a true accomplishment in the fields of science and sport.
However, Al Davis has just lost a grievance to pay Juice one salary instead of the combined salaries of Gradkowski and Campbell.

I’m going to give Troy Smith the same treatment that people said (and maybe rightfully) about Bruce Gradkowski.
Once defenses have some game-film on him, they can plan accordingly and he will be toast.
Beating the Broncos is no strong feat, and his game at home against the Rams was about as well as Bruce would have played if you double his one half.

Smith and campbells on the field results are the same, they just have different styles.
Smith is all fire, more sizzle and more of a gunslinger.
Campbell is more of a poker faced silent leader. He is not a high wire type act, but instead a well schooled technician and excellent managing the game and making plays when you need them.
They are both pocket passers that can make every throw, pick apart the defense, and make plays when things break down. Both lead you to a win from behind, or blow your doors off.

Gannon had a run of two years that produced numbers out of this world. He was in a pass happy offense on a halo of fame performer laden team.
Im not saying Smith or campbell will beat his numbers during those magik seasons.
Im saying that Campbell and Smith if given the opportunity will have better careers than both garcia and gannon. They will post better career totals, and tally more wins in their careers, then garcia and gannon.
I think both qb’s are good enough for a team to build around, and both could lead a team to super bowl glory one day.

Campbell and Smith have natural athletic gifts that garcia and gannon did not have. I also think jc and smith will be just as adept reading the defense, and executing an offense as efficiently as gannon, with time in 1 system.

After Sunday night’s loss to the Patriots, Hines Ward (concussion) insisted he will play in Week 11.
Ward said he would have gone back in the game last night, but medical personnel would not allow it. And even though he fully expects to play against the Texans, he’ll have to pass a series of cognitive tests before being cleared. Ward is not a lock to suit up against the Texans. Mistic, you don’t think Garcia was much of an athlete?
Didn’t think he could buy time and throw on the run? Didn’t think he averaged about 25 yards a game in his Pro Bowl years?
How bout Gannon in that 2000 season where we led the league in rushing? 33 yards a game. 11 rushing TDs while in Silver and Black.
No, they weren’t Mike Vick, but to say they were pure pocket passers is just ridiculous.
===========================================================
I have no question that garcia and gannon were very good athletes. gannon was dratfed as a safety and early in his career he was more known for his scrambling than as a passer. He was a bit turnover prone before ending up with the raiders.
Garcia was at his best outside of the pocket, and made his nfl living by his mobility.
neither gannon or garcia have the huge arms the smith and Campbell have. Smith and campbell can make throws in the pocket and on the move that garcia and gannon couldnt dream of making. Simply because they didnt have that kind of arm.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis, a mediocre back at best, had a 4.8 yards/carry average last night and caught 4 balls for 36 yards. DMac ought to at least be able to equal that!
Every year in the second half of the season, I hear people complaining about the age of their D-line and how they start to wear down in games/get injured. Seems it’s happening again this year.

I was hoping that pittsburgh beat NE and that they did it in a tough physical game and played us on a short week nice and beat up. They were out physicaled on Sunday and there is no way that Tomlin isgoing to let that happen again.
Harrisson is a bad muthaf*cka and Polamalu will be trying to make a point. They are leaders of that D and we will have to do a of passing against that 3-4. Polamalu will be ready to make a hit on a TE or a WR over the middle and after seeing Veldheer struggle with Hali, I dont have too much confidence in him against 92. We are gonna need another WR to step up like DHB did week 8 and Ford did week 9, is Murphy gonna be back???

I’ll feel a lot better about the game if ZMiller is back. Steelers had no answer for Rob Gronkowski last night.
Patriots used a lot of jumbo sets with Crumpler and Gronkowski too. They didn’t even use their talented pass catching rookie TE, Hernandez because he’s not big enough for what they were doing. I see the same thing happening here. Get used to the ref saying that Khalif Barnes has reported eligible because it’ll happen a lot.
November 15th, 2010 at 11:33 am
It’s a great day to be a Raiders fan. Isn’t it?
The Pats did to the Steelers what the Raiders need to do to the Steelers…beat ‘em at their own game. They beat ‘em up.
There isn’t a D-line in the NFL any tougher than the tough-as-nails stout Raiders’ D-line right now…and our #2’s on that line are playing as well as most of the starters in the League.
The Raiders front 4+ will wreak havoc on Big Ben, while the downfield coverage will be tight. Stop Mendenhall from looking like LT2, and the Steelers won’t score 17 points.
I fully EXPECT the Defense to show up in Pittsburgh. I EXPECT our running game to dominate. I really, really HOPE the passing Offense shows up. The passing game must click…a lot sooner (and sharper) than it did a week ago.
We want the lead early in Pitt…and and even bigger lead…to squeeze the emotion right out of them and their fans.

I couldnt dis agree more. Smith was one of the best qb’s in college football during his final two seasons, posting insane numbers and big time wins. He of course finished with the Heisman and a start for the national championship.
Yes he deserved( although underrated) his draft status, and his play early in his pro career, combined with his college career look like he is a special talent. he is off to a better start than those two.

When you win the way these guys have done it, coming from behind, plus campbells blow out wins, make him a leader in the locker room. The players and the owner now know that he can lead them to victory, this is leadership.
Chris cooly said that campbell was a team leader in washington. Gibbs was impressed with campbell leadership ability when he drafted him out of auburn, where he was also a team leader.

The other Troy — the Safety in Pittsburgh — is more important to the Raiders immediate future than that guy across the Bay.
There is a major reason why Troy Polamalu isn’t showing up on as many highlights right now…he’s getting a little long-in-the-tooth. He’s not gonna fly all over the place with as much energy and speed as in years past (effort notwithstanding). More than ever, he needs his own front-7 to bring the havoc on Offenses, so he can be in position to make the play… Troy’s not “creating” the big play every game like he once could.
He’s still as good as it gets, but he can be (and is) beaten more than one would think, based on his great reputation. Speed kills…especially when it starts to diminish.

I don’t know if it’s that he’s a little long in the tooth (he’s 29), but that injuries, particularly to the knee, are starting to pile up. In 2006, 2007 and 2009, he missed a combined 19 games because of knee injuries. That’s gonna slow anyone down.
November 15th, 2010 at 11:58 am
If our O line and D line can continue to work the opponents over, our skill positions are too much speed for the backfield to cover. They have to pick thier poison. I see Polamalu is guessing more these days. The way to kill his agressiveness is play head games with him and cross up his reads. If only to put a stutter in his step.
We get this team on its heels, the big guys up front will have them skidding backwards on roller skates.
The Steelers eyes will be wide as coasters as they walk meekly up to the line bewildered, confused, beaten, and swearing at the themselves.

All summer long I was saying Troy Smith was a steal for a 5th round pick. I guess we now know that there was some merit there. SF now has their franchise QB. His only shortcoming was that he’s short (6′0″) by NFL standards but more than makes up for it with his other skills. Isn’t he he same height at Drew Brees? I guess that’s not that large of a handicap. Oh yes, I made that point earlier too. The Niners are now relevant and can make a run at the playoffs. Alex Smith will be # 2 forever going forward.

Wanting JCampbell (or Grads) to play as well as Gannon did 8-yrs ago??
As much as Gannon’s no lifetime Raider, and never will be…he gave us, and the NFL, a stretch of 2+ years of QB play that was about as good as it got at the position. Give THIS team Pro Bowl QB play like that, and they’ll be in the Playoffs for the next 5-years.
Gannon proved (like a number of others) that you don’t need the cannon arm to be successful…anything stronger than Matt Leinart’s arm will do…as long as you’re smart, timely, and accurate with the ball.
We NEED smart, timely, and accurate throws from our QB…something JCampbell needs to bring right from the first drive this week.

++++++++++++++++
Solid post Bro..I saw them dropping harrison back in zone coverage… I would love to see him pick up reece or DMAC on a wheel, screen, or delay out of the backfield……That will be instant points or huge gains…

The more I think, the more I wonder if this couldn’t be a breakout game for Shaughnessy. Did you see that scrub at LT for the Steelers last night? Mario Henderson at his worst was never that bad. He could conceivably end up with 3 sacks by his own damn self.
And if they try to double team him? Richard Seymour and Tommy Kelly left one on one. Good luck with that.
The Chiefs have two pretty decent guards in Brian Waters and Ryan Lilja and they looked helpless against Seymour & Kelly. These guys for the Steelers will have no chance.

Getting old in football years happens in a hurry, and it happens due to numerous factors. Injuries to the knees and feet are part of it.
Remember our one-time “great” CB Terry McDaniel? In a period of about 1-year, he went from great to being burned consistently. Once his speed left him, he was done. Very sad to see that proud guy’s talents go as rapidly as they did.

I agree that the Raiders should dominate. The lines are superior now, and they are regrouping and trying to flex weak muscles as if to make them strong.
This game is decided before the first snap. It is in the intensity and push you will see on the first series of offensive and defensive snaps.
We just need to play our game, our tempo, and forget about them. Pretend that they have the Bills or Lions logos on them.
They got nothing. We have to punch them in the face and watch them flinch.

You are overestimating McNabbs number. It is probably 10-12 million a year, heavily backloaded with incentives.
Nnamdi (if he doesnt renegotiate this year) will probably get 14-17 million next year.

Interesting decision by arbitration, especially when Al slipped in his press conference and invoked Kiffin’s performance as a reason for termination. He even went into detail, spelling out game plans, criticizing the effectiveness of them, etc. Kiffin obviously didn’t take this seriously and get real representation. He has been working every since, after all. In better jobs, at that. Because this was a slam dunk for him.

They were also playing without their best player on defense. The steelers may not be dominat but they are consistent and are a team that has taken on the personality of its HC. They are blue collar, fiery, and intense. They just won the superbowl 2 years ago and you guys are already overlooking them and talking about the Miami game lol. Steelers dropped 2 of their last 3 and BARELY hung on at Cincy. I would say Cincys special teams gaffes were the real difference in that game, not anything the Steelers did. The blueprint has been the same. Attack them behind the LOS, and force them out of their blitzes and into coverage with short high completion percentage throws. Add in the fact that the Steelers havent faced anything CLOSE to the trifecta of DMAC Bush and Reece and this is definitely a winnable game for us. If they come out with the right gameplan, and stick to it they should win this game. It will be very close though.

Could get crazy.
Here are the 4 highest paid QBs under contract for next year:
Tom Brady $18M
Eli Manning $16.3M
Carson Palmer $16.2M
Philip Rivers $15.3M
Jason LaCanfora reports that the McNabb deal is an average annual value of 15.5 million.
Let’s say Manning gets 25 million per this offseason. Carson Palmer is likely to be cut, based on that salary vis a vis his performance this year.
Then we’d have:
Manning 25 mil
Brady 18 mil
E. Manning 16.3
McNabb 15.5
Rivers 15.3
That comes to a total of a shade over 90 million, which when averaged, comes to 18 million bucks
Nnamdi might be getting paid the same as Tom Brady. Insanitysauce.

Garrard is playing on a bad team, and posting solid numbers, again. he is lot like jc, a qb that plays well but hasnt had a very good team around him, end even now is making his team better. He started slow this year but he is sum surface hot right now.
Troy smith was named the starter in baltimore in his second year, lost his job during camp when he suffered a sever case of tonsillitis. Flacco stepped in abd made his mark. Because smith didnt get his shot doesnt mean he cant play. have you watched hi in his two starts or at all in his football career?
Campbell is putting up the w’s and putting up solid numbers, as per his pattern. The difference here is that this team is better than what he had in washington. he is one of the main driving forces behind our recent success.
Cam Newton is a much better passer than tebow ever could be. Im not sure if you have seen a lot of him, but he has one of the most accurate arms in college football. If Newton declares as a junior it think he would be in the top two qb’s of this class. Check him out before you trash his game.

Troy Smith was competing for the job to start. Flacco started the first two preseason games, Smith was set to get his chance in the third game and got sick. He did not start one preseason game, not sure how he was declared the starter.
Cam Newton has a rocket arm, but I watched his game this weekend and an interesting note came up. He has NEVER attempted a pass after taking a snap under center this center. REPEAT: NEVER
There is a reason one of the most talented collegiate QB’s has played for 3 teams in the last 3 years, and he is running into trouble again this season. It is because he is a douchebag.
November 15th, 2010 at 1:17 pm
Lance Kiffin was fired for CAUSE. His performance lacked, in large part because he was working counter to what his Employer had hired him to do. Lance acknowledges that he misled his Employer on more than one occasion (read: LIED TO)…that in itself is a fire-able offense.
Spin it any way you want MR…everybody in here knows you can’t stand the fact you are WRONG once again, and you’ll try to make it seem as if Al LOST $2.9M.
Al took that lying little weasel — who never wanted to build anything in Oakland — to school. Everything Lance Kiffin ever “accomplished” was given to him on a Silver platter (yes, even the job here).
I say right here, right now…Lance will be replaced within 3-years…and he won’t get another job approaching the prominence of an NFL HC job, or another job as coveted as a program like USC’s.

I have seen Cam Newton play more than once this year, and he has every pass, not just the rocket shot. he also makes the touch passes, and is good throwing short, medium and over the middle. former NFL pro gary danielson, and cbs college football broadcaster said he is the nfl ready passer now, maybe a touch behind where mathew stafford was when he declared.I have to agree.
He made some bad choices at florida, but many players have, im not aware of hi breaking any rules while at blinn jc, or now at auburn.

I haven’t seen Fat Kidd in a long time, but I thought that had more to do with the Raiders winning ?

Ummm…we all saw DMC falling over hashmarks, tripping over himself, and running into his own Linemen more than into daylight the past two years. Those things were happening. A lot.
We fans are all happy he seems to have re-learned how to stay upright. If he keeps playing like this, and IF he can stay healthy, he’ll be in the Pro Bowl and we’ll be in the Playoffs.
+++++++++++++
There was no daylight the past two years, he was only given about 7 carries a game under Cable and the rest only happened a couple of time and some blowhards in here blew it out of proportion.
Hue Jackson made things right. McFadden was fine the entire time.

The Raiders need both DMC and MBush to stay healthy the rest of the year. We need the capability (expectation) of 100+ rushing yards from whichever RB is on the field at the time.
With DMC, I worry about his health more than anybody else on the team.

You dont think he cares about 2.9 MILLION DOLLARS?
…………….
How much does he make at USC? I don’t know. That’s a lot of money. No doubt. But he has a father who’s been coaching for years and I’m sure is a millionaire. He grew up in a family with good money. Upper-middle class, at minimal, with a father who was a journeyman assistant coach in the NFL. So, how much money is that to Lane Kiffin? Is it worth having to tangle with Al Davis in arbitration, knowing Al will never give up?
I’m just brainstorming reasons as to how arbitration could have come down with this decision, because Al Davis most definitely revealed that his termination of Kiffin was at least partly due to performance. He admitted it when firing him, for crying out loud.

He has earned and deserved the benefit of the doubt.

Fair enough. So then when are you and the other Davis minions going to stop whining about how the NFL’s always picking on him?

So.. The Real MoronRaider, I have a question for you, are you saying that Kiffin got screwed, and the arbitrator was wrong, and the NFL sided with Al Davis on this one? Just want to clarify your stance.
………….
That’s exactly what I’m saying. Do you see any other scenario? Davis admitted to firing Kiffin for performance, in the very press conference in which he fired him! Blatantly! More than once, and even went into detail.

C’mon Dakota — You KNOW DMC fell down a lot…and he hurt himself, too. It was the only reason he wasn’t growing as a RB — he was always nicked, and he wasn’t producing.
I won’t disagree he was misused quite often… beginning under Kiffin’s stubborn hand. But, even in the open field, Darren was falling down more than he should have been.
His center-of-gravity is noticeably lower this year, and “chippy” hits aren’t knocking him over like they did a year ago.
DMC is playing the way he was expected to, and I couldn’t be happier about it. But, there are many factors for his success. The #1 factor is he’s been able to stay on the field.

Smith was scheduled to start in the third preseason game of the 2008 season, but became ill with a rare disease Lemierre’s syndrome.[19] Due to Smith’s illness, rookie Joe Flacco was named to the Ravens’ starting QB position
*********************************
LET’S ALL SAY IT TOGETHER.
Troy Smith did not start one preseason game in 2008, and was never declared anything other than a candidate for the job.
November 15th, 2010 at 1:46 pm
HayezDaze,
The Raiders obviously claim Lane Kiffin was fired for “cause”, because they know if they fired him for performance, they’d have to pay him the remainder of his contract. But despite the Raiders’ claim, Al Davis revealed well beyond any sane person’s reasonable doubt that performance played a role in his termination, as well. And if it did, Kiffin should be owed the money. Al Davis put on the worst performance ever for an owner trying to convince the press that he was firing his coach for cause and not performance. He slipped every 5 seconds. He was criticizing Kiffin for actual play calling, for crying out loud. That’s as performance as it gets for a coach, because that is the most active process that a coach is involved in. You couldn’t criticize a coach based on performance any further than you could with criticizing their play calling, and Al did just that, at the very press conference where he claimed to be firing him for “cause”, which means non performance. It was ridiculous. So I’m wondering, how could the arbitrator had sided with Al? The only reason I can come up with is that maybe Al isn’t as hated by the league as you guys insist he is. So maybe the whinefest about how Al gets treated by the league should scale back a little now?

In fact, Kyle Boller started the first preseason game in 2008, Joe Flacco the second, and Troy Smith was last in line, to start game 3.

Whatever you do, don’t try and make it seem like I’m anti-DMC. I’m pro-whomever is my RB…and DMC is my RB. Can’t take back the fact (don’t want to) that I feel MBush could carry the load for this team, with a capable backup (just like DMC’s doing now).
Go DMC & go Raiders. I’d like DMC to make all other teams rue the day they face him, like they do now. I’ll never rue the day one of my own team’s players is successful.

The Raiders are playing great football, but they’re not “there” yet. You know if they lost the rest of their games this year, their record is 5-11. Don’t say it can’t happen. I can pull up some past Raiders landslides in late seasons, if you like.

The FACTS are in. Kiffin was JUSTIFIABLY fired for cause. So what if performance factored into it too? His other poor behavior was enough to justify cause for termination without further compensation.
Al is ON A ROLL!

MR, you are going out of your way to show just how simple-minded you are…
Lance was fired for CAUSE. When an Employee LIES to his Employer regarding his job, he can rightfully be fired for cause…immediately. Not only did Lance dig his own grave, he threw himself into it by continuing to mislead his Employer when directly confronted.
AND, simple-thinker…
The NFL did NOTHING to Lance in this arbitration. All mediators/arbitrators/special masters are approved by the League…and the representatives of ALL sides in a dispute. If one side doesn’t agree to a particular mediator, said mediator will be replaced. The OBJECTIVE mediator has his/her job specifically because all parties agree to his selection as such.
Lance Kiffin has shown a propensity to lie to, mislead, and connive his Employer. Lance was fired for CAUSE…easy to prove even in kindergarten court.

Lance might have deserved to get fired “for cause” but Mr. Davis did not handle the situation well. The whole thing with the letter, the overhead projector and the “Jamarcus is a great QB…Get over it!” thing…Was not Al’s finest hour. The bummer for Al is he was in the right and he kind of goofed it up by making himself seem so vindictive and weird.
