Campbell will start vs. Miami

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, November 21st, 2010 at 1:36 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Raiders coach Tom Cable with regard to pulling Jason Campbell in favor of Bruce Gradkowski at his post-game press conference:

“(Jason) will be the starter next week. There is no issue there. As we could all see, it didn’t make a lot of difference.”

Cable said the injury suffered by Trevor Scott “looks to be” an ACL injury. That would mean he is out for the year.

He said he didn’t see the play in which Richard Seymour was ejected for striking Ben Roethlisberger in the face.

“Unless the owner brings in a coach specifically because he thinks he can work with one of those guys.”

    Al Davis owns the Panthers?

Sorry, I didn’t mean to use the salty language mods.

YA-that is fine but there is still a lot of football to be played this year with the division still very much a possibility. What we need right now might not be what we need at the end of the year-except QB.It is possible we have the necessary replacements for the Oline on the roster-except maybe C.Our young WRs could become more dependable and Chaz could get and stay healthy.

    ————-

If the coaches are committed to Bruce Campbell being a RG, then the team still needs an RT. Especially considering how susceptible Walker has been to the pass rush.

I don’t think the safe money is on Chaz staying healthy. His health was a problem in his college career, too, so after three injury-plagued years in the pros it would be no small miracle for him to become durable now. If he can stay healthy through training camp there’s no harm in keeping him, but even with Murphy, Ford, and DHB the need for a consistent set of hands remains. The chances of DHB coming around before the end of the season is about the same chance there is of Campbell playing lights-out football for the remainder of the season.

I’d like to see them get to the playoffs, and I believe it can happen if they make it to 9-7. I’m just realistic about their chances against the AFC’s best teams – the Steelers, Pats, Colts, and Ravens.

I like Cable. He’s a very likeable guy. It’s cute the way he tries to fire up the team and all and act like he’s a real coach and all, but if you want to win in this league you need a REAL head coach that knows what he’s doing.

Pittsburgh is smart, confidant, and has talent. We just have some raw talent but are horribly out matched in game planning and knowing what it really takes to win in this league.

Raiders are undisciplined and badly prepared.

If we’re okay with being an undisciplined group of talented players then great; you’ve got yourself a team here, but if you wnat to truly get it to the playoff level then you need coaches who know how to get us there and mold a team of talented players.

Al got Cable on the cheap. You get what you pay for.

Watched some of the niner game.
Not only do they lose, but they’re really boring.

Sometimes it seems like the opposite – Panthers ownership tends to be kind of stingy. Not Tampa Bay or Arizona-level stingy, but stingy nonetheless.

Neither Jason Schroeder nor Billy Joe Gradkowski are answers. Just hope that one or the other is serviceable in the remaining games. File this one as a throwaway and move on.

Was glad to see someone wise up and give Bush a shot as McF couldn’t deal with the contact today.

If the Panthers let John Fox go, a new coaching regime is probably going to want their own QB. In which case, I don’t see Luck making it past the #1 overall pick.

    =====================================================

I do. He’s not in the draft.

  • chappy23us

A true #1 WR has to be the off-season priority. We just dont have anybody we can count on when it counts to consistently make plays at the WR position. DHB needs to pull a Roddy White/Dwayne Bowe career turnaround to justify his draft selection. Secondary upgrades should be OL, safety and CB. I am still in it for this season but it is looking like 8-8 for us.

  • lefty12

Many are saying Luck will come out.Harbaugh has said he believes he is ready and given his blessings if he goes.

  • chappy23us

Without a first round draft pick we have zero chance of acquiring Luck. Besides Al is not going to admit JC was a mistake yet.

  • djohnnyg

I don’t know why everybody is praising Seymour for that hit. It was stupid PERIOD. He could’ve sent the same message by pushing him down, but hitting him on the head and getting kicked out was amateur league.

Would u guys rather win or just be a bunch of losing thugs? “Yeah, we don’t take crap from no-one”. Great! All the other team has to do is point to the scoreboard and laugh their way to the playoffs. In the “good ole’ days” the Raiders could do that stuff and STILL WIN, but it’s not the same anymore.

35-3. That right there is the biggest insult.

We need to look to the offensive line and especially center. Receivers are no where near as important.

    Hey Jerry,

Couldn’t help but notice that after a loss, you’re all over it, big article, we suck, lost momentum etc.

However, after a win, usually takes a night before you start to cranking out your column.

Whats up with that, starting to think that you’re really a closet hater.

My two cents only, but think I’m right on the money.

I’m back in off the ledge, sons.

Don’t count us out yet. We went into this game without all our key weapons. Say what you want about DHB – he can block. Yes we can beat a weak team without nnamdi, seymour, but not a great one like the Steelers. Zach Miller had a slow start coming back off injury and Cable and Co had a bad game plan. The coaches will learn from this disastrous mistake. We can beat elite teams if we have all out key players- particularly the defense in tact.

Finally, I saw Mr. Davis up close and personal today. I seriously doubt that he is making any decisions.

Well the season is not over yet lets not talk draft,
Last year this time Jets Were 4-6 we are 5-5 with more upside to come!!!!! just wait and see maybe things pan out for us

No one has said anything about the 3rd string QB,ex – starter in the NFL Kyle Boller. Why not give him a shot?

Is Cable blind? The team moved with Gradkowski. Asking him to cover a 30+ point deficit in just a single quarter is ludicrous. Gradkowski is the man, regardless of Campbell does or doesn’t do. If Campbell remains our starter when Gradkowski is available our season is over.

  • anthonyraiders

I quarantee at the end of the year, someone from coaching staff will come out and say that Campbell had problems picking up offense. Al Davis would not let the coaches coach and allow Bruce to play. So the Raiders stuck with Campbell and ended up 6-10. I hope Im wrong or they change there minds but if Bruce doesn’t start we wont win eight games.

  • anthonyraiders

Everyone keeps saying that the Raiders play calling was horrible. How about the fact that Campbell cant play in a smart offence and has to have a basic offence ran for his abilities. Also without a running game, Campbell is useless. Put in the Bruce at the begining of the game and we would have won or made it close. Next week hopefully they put in Bruce when were down by 10 going into the 3rd quarter.
