Jerry I’m going to pass, ok?

Dick Labeau is a tough cookie to plan for. Polamahu lines up wherever he wants to. They’re tough to block.
Of course he could never coach here.
November 22nd, 2010 at 6:19 pm
I think Hue/Al were too intimidated by all the different Pittsburgh fronts, to cut the playbook loose.
November 22nd, 2010 at 6:34 pm
Raiders are getting better. Just not ready to compete with top teams yet.
Where we are is a lot better than where were a year ago.
7-9, 8-8, or 9-7 looks a lot better than 4-12 or 5-11.
GO RAIDERS!!!!

Offensive Coordinator Hue Jackson went ultra conservative against the Steelers which played to their strength, allowing them to simply line up, play smash mouth and dominate the Raiders.
Gone were the reverses, flea flickers and Wild Hog formations. In Jackson’s defense the Raiders had stated before the game field position would dictate wether some of these plays and or formations would be called.
Oakland got beat by the Steelers but its conservative, smash mouth game plan played a part.
They’ll need to return to mixing it up against Miami.
_______________________________________________________
This is why we got blown out fellas…Bland, predictable, terrible play calling on both sides of the ball. Just like in the SF game. Ben Rapistberger had all day to throw because we generated little or no pressure.
This one’s on Jackson and Marshall fellas.
November 22nd, 2010 at 7:01 pm
Pittsburgh was more creative on Offense and Defense then we were, bottom line.
November 22nd, 2010 at 7:06 pm
Pittsburg is a pretty well established team. They could probably go through the next preseason without any changes and still be good for the next few years.
Raiders are not quite there yet.
Remember this preseason when we were all hoping for an 8-8 season? Then it turned into 9-7 then playoffs then super bowl?
Everything will be fine when the Raiders make the necessary changes….You all know what those changes are.
November 22nd, 2010 at 7:07 pm
Broncos suck
November 22nd, 2010 at 7:13 pm
Uh! what else is new?
November 22nd, 2010 at 7:15 pm
#6 is correct.
When I saw in the first quarter that we weren’t going to blitz, I turned the game off.
I knew we were going to lose.
Vanilla doesn’t work in the NFL.
November 22nd, 2010 at 7:23 pm
What people fail to realize is that to a certain extent the poor quality of our offensive line limited what we could call on offense. There were hot reads and other times we ran max protections, but both were destroyed by the steeler pressure.
The qbs did not play well, however the biggest issue was the blocking. there were steelers running free through the backfield before our qbs could finish their drops, even short drops.
Dmac instead of the usual make one man miss in the back field was being gang tackled in the back field.
This game wasnt about our two qbs, it was the fact the pitt front seven manhandled our o-line at every snap. This game was about our two best defensive players being out and not being able to stop pitt form scoring, meaning we had to abandon our run game. pitt pinned their ears back and swarmed like sharks with blood in the water.
If you honestly look at it we havent had good o-line play except the denver game. even seattle and kc, our o-line was shaky at best, with pass protection breakdowns and penalties. this is one reason why the first halfs of these games were brutal.
We have won in spite of our o-line thanks to herculean efforts by our defense, and timely performances from several contributors. One week its dmac, another its campbell and dhb, or ford.
lets keep this in perspective. Our o-line is the weakest link on this team and the receivers are next on the list. this is no surprise every one in the league saw we couldnt pass protect in preseason. Every team has brought the heat against us, some just werent good enough to get there. Our play makers also have offset some of the rush against weaker foes.
If cable wins less than 7 games im sure he will be gone. the o-line is the biggest reason.

We had to be conservative on offense because we cant pass protect, and we couldnt run block yesterday either.

I would love to use Jacoby Ford the same way SD uses Sproles. Run screens sprint draws and use him essentially the same way even as a runner.
November 22nd, 2010 at 7:32 pm
Thanks for nothing Donkeys!!!!
We’ll have to do this the old fashion way by beating SD again to get the division.
November 22nd, 2010 at 7:34 pm
The best teams in this league have good offensive and defensive lines. Our defense is good enough to beat anyone, as long as we are healthy. The o-line is a different story. this continues to be the 900 pound gorilla in the room, and its making a monkey out of tom cable and the r5aiders offense, especially against quality pass rush teams, but even against lesser opponents like houston and arizona.
This is why our qbs have been abused all year.
November 22nd, 2010 at 7:44 pm
How did we beat San diego??????
November 22nd, 2010 at 7:49 pm
Defense ST’s and solid offense.

can the raiders get vy next year, he is done in tenn. and in the last year of his deal, 12 mil for one year. i wonder what the titans will ask in exchange since in sure they want value but at the same time everyone knows they need to move young this offseason.
November 22nd, 2010 at 7:53 pm
The defense is good enough right now to win and played a good game against Pittsburgh.
There were a couple of long passes on 3rd down that led to two scores…but overall the defense got it done.
The offense was turning the ball over and not moving the ball at all. The turnovers and no passing game lead to the loss.
The Raiders will be facing similiar pressure here on out. Expect more 8 and 9 man fronts and a dare to pass. Raiders will be facing more of this going forward….the NFL is a copycat league…so the passing offense is on notice.

Passing game was victimized by a leaky pass protection and failure to run block. The defense was on the field too long and without our defensive leaders couldnt stop pitt. remember they had 21 points midway through the 3rd quarter.
every team has been blitzing us and stacking the box to stop the run. Every team isnt as good at run defense or blitzing as pitt. Only the indy, and san diego games have the potential to get that ugly, because of our deficiencies on the o-line. i doubt either will be that ugly as we will have our full complement of defensive players(minus scott) on board, the defense will keep the scores closer.
November 22nd, 2010 at 8:01 pm
Poor QB was defenseless what about all the college girls “big ben” has assaulted. Best 25 K Seymour’s ever spent.
November 22nd, 2010 at 8:02 pm
Raiders better fix the offensive issues before that San Diego game
November 22nd, 2010 at 8:03 pm
SnB I hope they do show more 8 and 9 man fronts these guy’s will learn how to compete from this game. We were way too hesitant and non-competitive I dubt you see that again. Our speed was not on display at all. But I woud love to play the Steelers again and let them try those tactics. Especially if we have Chaz and DHB in the mix.
That was Fords first rodeo they can teach from that film and I know Murphy will be a lt different next time. I just think it was a matter of him not playing for a while.

I feel what you are saying. Let’s see them bounce back. Thought that stuff was out of their system after the 49er debacle.
This can either be another developmental year…or a division title year…..its up to a handful of players and Hue
November 22nd, 2010 at 8:06 pm
Priesttj,
Perhaps you are right. But if Cable is living by this “Cut it Loose” philosophy…we should see that instead of the crawl under the bed offense we saw yesterday.
Playcalling was conservative, QBs were tentative and receivers played with little urgency…o-line mailed it in after the 1st drive…
If its cut it loose…then do so. That whole offensive gameplan was about trying not to make mistakes

i have been all over the o-line since the preseason, we have found ways to win in spite of their efforts.
No qb would have been successful under that kind of onslaught.

i woud be more than surprised if they dont play well next week. They have shown unlike the past that they care, and they will beat teams that we are better than.
miami should not beat us with an o-line that is on par with our own, and a 3rd string qb.
A loss would be unthinkable and inexcusable.
November 22nd, 2010 at 8:09 pm
I have seen QB’s control the onslaught. They need to at the least be able to comprehend an audible at the line.
Poor receiving on hots, dropped balls, O-line play, and ineffectual qb play. The entire O from Hue all the way down took a siesta yesterday.

I would tend to disagree. Using Jackson’s rotational scheme and injuries we always have a lot of young guys in.
Its a young team.
18 of our 53 are in their 1st or 2nd yr.
Those same guys played well enough to win in weeks prior running all manner of trick plays.
Oakland set its mind they were going to bully the Steelers and that didn’t happen.
They didn’t adjust.
No matter what Cable says Campbell stayed in waaay too long.
No one was blocking on special teams and max protect packages failed.
They shouldn’t have been a staple because exploiting Pittsburgh’s secondary os how teams have success.
You flood the field and zip to the hot read QUICK.
Grads was picked and it was a stupid throw but he took the Steelers apart on his opening drive.
The Raiders played to lose after the Steelers scored quickly off of Grads mistake.
I can see Marshall’s reason for convservative D.
Its well established that Ben can burn you when you blitz but I think at some point Oakland should’ve “Cut it Loose” as it were on BOTH sides of the ball.
Seems like they folded shop and began looking at the rest of the season somewhere in the 3rd.
Crank it up Oakland. They had success when they ran what our guys ran in college so OPEN IT UP!

It’s amazing to me how the Raider Nation before the game was convinced the Raiders would beat the Steelers. With just a few wins, the nation forgot just how bad the Raiders are and began again (and again, and again…) with their pontifications of wins.
Nothing is going to change until Davis is gone. Nothing…

I’m all for us geting V Young next year since he is next best thing to Vick.
But if we seriously upgrade our O-Line then I would rather we make a play for Kolb.
November 22nd, 2010 at 8:35 pm
Cable: Well, certainly, I think Richard would be the first to tell you he probably made a bad decision, but I think as you become a tougher mentality and you become a team trying to enforce your will on each other, which is what those two teams did yesterday….

Campbell picked the Steelers apart as well his opening drive and they actually scored. If the WR he threw to in the endzone actually faught for the ball instead of running out of bounds we would’ve had a TD.
Campbell goy very little help from his rec’s early in the game Ford made a nice catch but Murphy and JLH played way too soft. Had they just been competitive we might have scored 10 points and that is a very different game even if they score but Murphy played like a sissy and fumbled on top of it. We were moving the ball but for the drops and bad routes and that fumble.

Like a lot of modern day young players…they love the lifestyle and people kissin their backside…but they don’t like the game.

Last time I looked, Brady, Peyton and Rivers weren’t exactly busting huge runs down the sidelines. And all blitzing is, is gambling. You gamble you are going to get the Q before he gets the play off. Because if he gets the play off, you are going to PAY big time. Notice how teams don’t blitz the above mentioned Q’s.

Vince Young is better than what we have now. If we had him we would avg 200 yds passing and 200 yds rushing.
Our WRs suck and can’t get open. Part of that is our O-Line doesn’t give QB time to allow receivers to get open.
Insert Young and he has the feet to evade the rush and buy time for WRs to get open and he can get the ball there. He will not easily accept getting sacked when the pass rush come barreling towards him.
Plus if it weren’t for VY we would be 6-4 right now. V Young likes football. He doesn’t like Fisher.

THE OFFENSE WOULD BE A HELLUVA LOT BETTER WITH ANY OF THE AFORMENTIONED. But thats old news. I aggree with all that say we should pick up VY next season. He’d be an upgrade from the crap we have now @ that position. But we still need recievers to catch the ball.
