    Thec,

I don’t think there is a LT available to us instead of DHB that was better than Veldheer ended up being. I’m fine with the DHB pick and Veldheer at LT.

    +++++++++++++++++
Eugene Monroe, or Michael Oher…Could have been the picks if you dont trade down in the 2009 draft.

2010 I am fine with V at either LT or C, he is a baller flat out… However this was the year we could have taken bryant…

  32. socalraider2408 Says:

Nnamdi is was greatly missed yesterday due to the simple fact that he takes away one side of the field for the opposing QB to work with. Our D got worked over by Pitts 4-5 WR sets yesterday. I dont think Marshall planned to see those formations used so much by a power running team. Pitts not really known for stretching the field. Too many yards after first contact too. Mendenhalls running lanes werent there all day but our LB’s werent in position to clean up.

  33. JB Says:

All Raiders should be of this mindset. This is old time Raider football. Make sure the opponent understands that trash talk is not always acceptable.

I personally am shocked he only got a 25k fine, and NO SUSPENSION? Mr. Goodell.. hello….this IS the Raiders we’re talking about here. I don’t know, it’s just a theory, but weird how all those calls went our way yesterday and now Seymour only gets 25k for an intentional hit on the head of one of the leagues “elite” QB’s and NO suspension? I’m releived but shocked.

The only game I really watched McClain in college was against Florida because I knew the Raiders might take him. I was not overly impressed….he was in on a lot of tackles, but he was rarely the first guy there. I thought he must be injured or something.

Then the night before the draft Charlie Casserly commented on McClain and said he doesn’t make as many plays as a big time MLB should and he doesn’t shed blocks well.

Maybe he is what Charlie thought he was?

    =======================================================
Those Steeler fans were amped up for that game yesterday. Lots of respectful talk about the old days…pre-game questions in our section about who’s who on the RAiders….lots of nostalgia.

The league wants the Raiders to be relevant…takes every game up a level….

even with the Seymour slug…it was the Raider mystique all over again…unfortunately…the offense played like a bunch of bunk b’s

  40. SnB Production Says:

The Raider defense shut down the run for the most part.

The Defense is legit in my eyes. The fact that the Steelers went with 4 receivers is a sign of respect for the front 7. They knew they had to throw to really win the game…..with Nnamdi and more safety blitzes and different looks…it would have been a different game.

Unfortunately the offense did its best to give the game to Pittsburgh…Which they did in stunning fashion

That offense is not ready for prime time

Dez Bryant was not an option. You draft DHB the prior year, that is your guy. He has to develop.

  46. SilverAndBlackBleeder Says:

4-man rush kept Pittsburgh in check. Just gave up a couple of big plays on 2nd and 3rd and forever on two drives.

I agree. With Aso back and at the ability to run the ball, we are a playoff team.

    6 game season.

3-3 will likely not get it done unless maybe those three are all against AFC West.

4-2 should do it. Can it be done?

They’re all big now. No margin of error. That AZ game is really stinging right now. Forget SF and Houston. We got beat, that’s just that.

That was a chip shot FG after a solid drive to get us down there.

    But it’s over and done.

We’re 0-0, got the AFC West, Miami, Indy, and Jax coming up.

Two can run all day, three can pass all day and Jax seems pretty balanced with Gerrard coming on as of late.

    This is what we wanted.

    Control our own destiny.

Yeah the Steeler win would have been huge, but just like the 49er game, it may serve as a spring board.

  54. SnB Production Says:

Also, the Raiders HAD to address that pathetic run defense of the past. McClain and Houston, with Henderson signing did that.

Notice how the team is mostly competitive now.

  55. SnB Production Says:

The real problem is Chaz sittin in the tub and a late ackowledgement by the coach and GM of that situation.

Also, two QBs that are not being difference makers.

  59. djohnnyg Says:

It’s like the WWF (or WWE) wrestling league. The league NEEDS the “bad guys” to create storyline and interest. TV wrestling would be NOTHING without the bad guys. All movies have the “bad guy” to create a compelling story, and they need a STRONG bad guy. A lame, nerdy, loser bad guy won’t do. Where’s the challenge and the satisfaction when “good” ultimately prevails in the end?

The Raiders, to be an effective and compelling “bad guy” MUST be a challenge, therfore they must not only be “bad” they must be very “good” too.

Hey, if the league wnats to help make that happen it’s fine with me.

Outside of the “bad guy” Raiders, which team is really hated in the league? Alot of people hate the Cowboys, but they are “America’s Team” for crying out loud. No, the Raiders fit the role perfectly, but they NEED TO BE GOOD…and “bad”.

  60. SnB Production Says:

    Mista,

This season the team has been mostly good. Took a few weeks for the defense to iron some things out.

Fact is that Nnamdi is one of the least thrown to DBs in the NFL. Ben’s 1st question in the pre-game press was if Nnamdi is playing.

The guy is a difference maker.

As for the last 7 years….its the offense doing its level best to imitate the past…not the defense

Agreed! Once Veldheer took over at LT things changed up for the better….the D-Line was totally remade from two years ago.

Now the team competes…just have too much baggage on the right side of the line…otherwise the Raiders could just play smashmouth with DMAC and Bush and forget the QBs and WRs

Nnamdi is a huge asset to this defense. The only way he should be traded is if it brings a #1 receiver or legit starting QB (the latter being highly unlikely) and a 1st or 2nd round draft pick.

Nnamdi shuts down one side of the field, so in return the Raiders would need to get someone who could have more of an impact than that to make it worthwhile.

  73. djohnnyg Says:

Funny how you never hear guys like Hines Ward getting injured in practice and not playing the next game. But DHB?…NOOOOOOO. 74. GG Says:

I wish we would use DHB more like how Pittsburgh uses Wallace.
That short crossing route finding him in space, and then allowing Wallace’s speed and agility to get big YAC.
They also get him going downfield a lot like we do with DHB, but with the aim of actually throwing him the ball.

He does keep guys covered very well and discourages QB’s (except Rivers)from throwing on him, but…you can’t argue with the fact that he rarely if ever makes “plays”, but some would argue (and do all the time) that there are no plyas to make cuz nobody throws at him.

I think that he has a ways to go but I noticed that last year Morrison made a lot of plays becuase the Offense doubled the DT’s a lot and this year you don’t see that as much. Seymour and Kelly are being singled up and having outstanding seasons. Also I like that McClain gets everybody lined up where they are supposed to be.

Don’t underestimate what a big deal that is. Remember how many new people we have on D. Plus one of our best players (Seymour) is adjusting to a new role in a defensive scheme he hasn’t had a lot of experience with since he was a Bulldog. (And yes I know the Pat’s flexed to a 4-3). Alignment was something that Kirk struggled with.

Last year Kirk made a lot of plays 5 yards down field. And everybody would walk back to the huddle with their hands up in the air trying to figure out who messed up. I don’t see a lot of that this year. I would have loved to see Kirk stay and move over to his natural position at WLB. He’s a total Raider, I liked him at the Will better than Scott or Groves but that’s in the past.

I’d like to see McClain have more freedom to dial up plays on a presnap read. Give him the green light to change things when he sees certain formations. He has the football IQ. I think that we are just scratching the surface of his talent and potential.

So the wide development falls on sanjay…
a lot of guys have been calling for his head…
    Is this fair?

  88. GG Says:

    SnB…

Yeah there are a number of facets on offense that are holding the team back.

    Quality of QB.
    OL pass-blocking.
    Inconsistency of youthful WRs.
Lack of veteran WR like a Reggie Wayne or Derrick Mason.
    Play-calling from time to time.
Perhaps also elements of the playbook itself. Design of some core plays we run.

  89. Raider 510 Says:

SnB, teams have been throwing on #21 going back to last Thanksgiving against Dallas up until he injured his ballerina foot.

    Question:
If we are so good with #21 shutting down 1 side of the field how is our record what it is the last 7 years?

    ——————-
Should I follow your opinion or the constant respect Nnamdi receives from his peers, coaches, critics, etc.? I’ll go with the guys who say he is equal to or better than Darrelle Revis.

    ——————————————————

    Not a problem.

Chaz is BY FAR the best WR on this team. DHB is #2. Chaz will start as soon as he is healthy along with DHB. Even if it is for 4 games a year.

If you are confusing best WR on this team with actually being GOOD WRs, then carry on.

How long do we wait to see if he’s what we thought he was?

More than 9 games that’s for sure.

Wallace lined up on Nnamdi’s side has a career day against the back up, but no big deal.

77 has already made a big impact.

Keep an eye on Goethel replacing Groves and Groves sliding into Scott’s rotational position.

Seems like the coaches, or Al, want this kid on the field.

  124. Just Fire Baby Says:

I just want some consistancy from one of our WR’s.

If it just a consistant 5 catches for 60 yards I would take it.

DHB was a career game, than 0 catches than a bye week injury.

Ford breaks out, than drops passes and looks lost.

Murphy will be the best player on the field for awhile, than the worst player on the field.

    Straight ridiculous at times!!

  127. zopi Says:

I’m beginning to believe that McClain is out to lunch. Either he doesn’t have the smarts it takes to call plays for the defensive schemes, and he’s just not capable to play up. Is this another #1 bust to add to the Raider list? I realize he is just a rook but Houston is definitely showing a lot more promise than McClain. Fans can’t stop all the talk about McClain being able to replace Captain Kirk, he’s not even close, and I would add he’s overwhelmed playing MLB. Needless to remind us that it was a big mistake letting Morrison go. I don’t if you happened to see Kirk play yesterday, still making stops and big plays. How many has McClain made this season. How many times has he been chumped? Maybe he was playing hurt, if so sit him down, not that his back up is any good, but McClain is nowhere near what he was expected to do.

Seymour can only hope to bounce back. He let all his press about how he was defensive MVP get to his head. Yeah Ben got baitch-slapped, but Seymour was just plain dumb and lost his poise. If he’s supposed to be the leader of this team he’d better show up next game and prove something else, because he definitely didn’t show up yesterday. Remember playing stupid can easily spread throughout this team, aren’t the Raiders still the reigning stupidest team in the league, until further notice, I guess.
Now that I think about it, the whole team got their heads full of the “new Raiders jack,” and laid the same old rotten egg we’re used to. Not that I was expecting them to beat Pittsburgh but I was expecting to at least show up and not embarrass themselves.
Fans can only hope they’ll man up against the phins, but I’m having deep doubts the Raiders can go anywhere with this WR core, just not enough talent there. It’s interesting to see how the squeeler receivers were catching everything, and the Raider receivers couldn’t catch anything.
Cable and HueJack need to adjust to this reality and call more screens and short passes to free up McFadden on the outside, get the TE more touches. I can’t believe Zack Miller wasn’t more involved in the offense yesterday, how many touches did he get? Was he that hurt that he couldn’t catch anything?

  128. anthonyraiders Says:

I won’t go as far as to say McClain is a bust but I do see that he has not been that bruising, hit the running back at the line, linebacker. I do think the recievers are ok, its just Campbell is horrible. Until we get Bruce in full time, are chance of winning 8 is not good. Yes Bruce threw that bad pass to Troy but before that he went 6 for 6. At least there was some kind of production. Campbells game against good competition is 3 and out. He is excellent at that game and should win an award at the end of the season.

  129. JB Says:

Romac needs some private tutoring from Seymour. #92 will get his head and attitude straight.

  130. zopi Says:

I thought McClain got all his tutoring in the SEC.
McClain would be better off going across the bay and look to getting straight from somebody like Patrick Willis, speaking of SEC. Willis led the league in tackles in his rookie year.
In his first 10 games McClain hasn’t shown he is either tough or smart enough, it’ll take more than tutoring. He is not even leading the Raiders in tackles.
