End 1st qtr: Dolphins 10, Raiders 7

First-quarter notebook:
– Good start on Jacoby Ford kickoff return, then it was all Dolphins and quarterback Chad Henne.
– Davone Bess burns Stanford Routt on third-and-10 for 23-yard gain as Dolphins got out poor field position at their own 10 on last possession of first quarter.
As the quarter ended, Miami was past midfield after runs by Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown.
– Darren McFadden is dumped for a pair of 3-yard losses to wreck a drive that started with a 29-yard Gradkowski to Murphy hookup.
Back to Pittsburgh game, that’s six carries on his last 13 attempts.
– Miami moved 65 yards on eight plays in its second possession for a touchdown, with the score coming on a 30-yard pass to Patrick Cobbs against a trailing Michael Huff. Miami getting first downs, mixing in wildcat, Raiders defense on the defensive.
— Gradkowski can’t do anything with third-and-15 on first series, a 6-yard pass to McFadden on third down. McFadden dumped by Cameron Walke on second-and-8. Ford gets a 5-yard false start.
— Dan Carpenter’s 49-yard field goal gave the Dolphins points out of their first possession, getting 27 of their 29 yards on the drive on a single play _ Henne’s completion to Brian Hartline on a back shoulder throw against Nnamdi Asomugha.

Grad’s needs AC surgery. In his mind he is putting everything he’s got into his passes. But he has nothing on the ball. You can tell that he is trying to use a 3/4 delivery but you can’t do that on anything deep. Jackson needs to either adjust the pass routes and play the short quick game or pull Grads for JC.

The key to blitzing is timing. You could tell on that play that the Miami D had no idea who the pressure was coming from. Huff was roaming and moving almost the whole time….
