End 3rd qtr: Dolphins 23, Raiders 14

Third quarter notebook

– Miami picked on Walter McFadden one last time in the quarter on a 19-yard slant to Roberto Wallace, putting Miami at the Oakland 41 to open the fourth quarter.

Nnamdi Asomugha was doubled over on the sideline with an unspecified injury or condition.

– Bruce Gradkowski was late to see Jacoby Ford and then underthrew him at the goal line on a deep attempt, with Chris Clemons getting an interception in the end zone and giving Miami the ball at the 20.

— A second three and out for Raiders offense, drawing “boos’’ not “Bruuuce.’’ McFadden dumped for another loss. That’s six carries, minus-8 yards. Medium deep Gradkowski-to-Murphy play doesn’t connect.

To make matters worse, Davone Bess 47-yard punt return following a 48-yard punt sets up Miami again deep in Oakland territory.

They got no points when Dan Carpenter’s 50-yard field goal attempt was short.

— Miami has had great field position all day, and got it again to set up a 45-yard Carpenter field goal to go up 23-14. The Dolphins opened at the Oakland 44 after the Raiders punted out of their own end zone and Bess returned it to the 44.

– Raiders first possession _ three-and-out, and Gradkowski is lucky a second-and-10 forced throw to Darren McFadden was intercepted by linebacker Koa Misi.

— Bad start to second half _ Walter McFadden plays a routine out pattern to Marlon Moore into a 57-yard touchdown pass from Chad Henne. It’s a 72-yard drive in five plays and gives Dolphins a 20-14 lead.

Grad might actually be better in a no huddle situation, as long as he doesnt under throw the balls.

  • los9091

    ok

    LETS GO COLTS!!!!!!!!!

  • morilla

CJ has a groin strain. They said it wasn’t that bad. Who knows.

Not sure why everyone was so confidant this week.

    ,…….

Uh, because the game was winnable?

We had nothing in our gameplan to put us in 3rd and short situations. Just vertical game. The coaching staff and the players didn’t lose this one. The owner did.

  • ArmChair GM

Grads has stunk it up today. He let the Nation down today BIG TIME!

He and Campbell don’t deserve their paychecks for the last two weeks of pitiful performances on the field.

  • SilverNBlackPA

After the Pittsburgh game, I said we were finishing 7-9…and I thought the Raiders would win this game.

Now? 6-10. Denver does seem to be worse than us, so there’s that much. And hey, it’s more than 5 wins!

    Sigh.

  • RaidingTexas

    SilverNBlackPA Says:

Yep. I think Cable has changed the culture somewhat and helped these guys believe in themselves, but he’s not an X’s and O’s type and that’s what this relatively young team needs: someone to teach and scheme. Cable is not good at that.

    ———————

You still have to solve the quarterback problem!!! That’s not an easy thing to do with Al meddling.

  • Just Fire Baby

I would have been happy with 8-8 entering the season.

  • lefty12

We’d better hope H.Jackson doesn’t get hired as an HC by some team-LMFAO.

That might as well be the game. Thanks for the leather helmet game plan, Al.
    ————————-
This loss is on injured dbs, awful QB play, and only having one wr.

    ……….

All the more reasons to use more high percentage passing instead of this leather helmet vertical nonsense. Nice try, though.

  • brian_3520

Coach Cable isn’t giving Campbell enough of a chance to prove himself. It looks like rumors that Cable has a personal preference for Gradkowski is true … probably because they are both blue collar kind of guys and all that. Heck of a reason to choose your starting QB isn’t it?

  • DaTruth91

of we didnt draft ford in the fourth rd…we would have 0 pts….

im a hue advocate but come on man, the play calling was horrible once again

Starting rookies on the outside is a recipe for disaster.

    Draft more DB’s and WR’s!!!!!

    Gee, ya think?????? JR agrees.

But that extends the NFL record for consecutive double-digit loss seasons. I don’t claim any moral victory over that extra win this season.

  • lefty12

4 minutes to go and now he calls screens.

  • Raiderbuck

For all our speed the WR can’t get away from coverage. This team isn’t anywhere near what we thought it was. I think they are better, but that’s not saying much.

  • 504 Raider

OK MR, I opened my eyes and see it.

This crap is Al Davis’ fault. We get outcoached just about every game and we can’t counter because Al hired the assistants before the Head Coach. He hires coaches without the input of the head guy and that’s our biggest problem. Our coaches barely even know each other.

  • SilverNBlackPA

    So, who’s the next coach?

In a happy world: Gruden or Harbaugh.

In actuality? Jim Fassel or Kevin Gilbride.

    God help us all.

How do you figure? Al wasn’t wearing #22 or #5 on the field… and the only player thats playing is an Al pick, Rudy(Ford)…

  • los9091

Cable should have been yeling in the refs face there.

    no fire.

Come on man! Even for you, that is a stretch. You can blame Al signing two crap QBs and drafting DHB, but this game was not lost because of the game plan.

  • rooch

Y does Campbell get taken out for having a bad game, but #5 is still in.

    Fair question. Fair question.

This team doesn’t deserve to play in front of sold out crowds.
We suck and our heads got to big after a win streak. We are not even close at competing at the next level. I’m die hard, wear the shield on my sleeve (tattoo) but I have completely lost faith in this unit. I will always support my team but this is getting ridiculous. No coaching, marginal talent at positions of great need. With the names on this team and draft status we should be way better then we have been showing.

  • rooch

    Campbell 4-2, #5 1-2 going on 1-3

  • davidon

4th and 4..here comes the 2 yd out pattern again

  • brian_3520

It’s like Ford is our only receiver this week. Gradz goes to the same guy every time. Not good.

  • los9091

    lol….of course.

    offsetting penalties.

  • http://raiders.com A.B. Paine III

Should have kicked a 70 yard field goal on 4th and 4.

  • Raiderbuck

Not to mention the OL is just terrible, they couldn’t contain a kitten.
