Gradkowski having MRI

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, November 29th, 2010 at 10:15 am in Oakland Raiders.

Raiders quarterback Bruce Gradkowski is having an MRI today and fears bad news, a source familiar with the situation said Monday.

Gradkowski has been battling a shoulder problem since Week 3 against Arizona, ultimately going down with a third degree separation just before halftime of a 35-27 win over San Diego on Oct. 10. He missed the next five games, returning to start and play ineffecitvely in a 33-17 loss to Miami.

Following the game, Gradkowski left the field carrying his right arm awkwardly after being hit on the Raiders final play from scrimmage.

“It’s just tough. You always gott stay optimistic,” Gradkowski said following the game. “You don’t want that to happen but it’s always a fear of yours. As a quarterback, it’s hard. It’s your right shoulder and a third-degree separation is not the greatest thing to have on your throwing shoulder. Whatever I have to do to get right, I will.”

More to come . . .

I won’t say that McFadden or Ware should be cut, but it’s obvious they’re not starting-caliber players, or even up to the nickel role quite yet.

If the Raiders are looking for a starter opposite Nnamdi, they should go after Jonathan Joseph from Cinci. That team already has a very good corner in Leon Hall, and Joseph is a #2 CB who has very solid man coverage skills.

Put him across the field from Nnamdi with CJ or Huff as a nickel corner, and let a new DBs coach work with either McFadden or Ware as a 4th/5th corner.

I missed all the morning draft talk but I have an idea:

Since we don’t value roster spots or draft position, here is what we should do.

With our 2nd and 3rd rnd picks we should draft two strong armed gym rat QBs. I don’t think we will bomb out with 2 high shots at it.

  • r8rwill

changing his name from the great gradkowski to the glass armed louski!!!!the boy sucks

  • YoungAmerican

If anything I have to give credit for the Miami offense for a good gameplan. They know the Raiders are going to play man-to-man all day, so they just went after McFadden relentlessly on third down.

I wish the Raiders were as good at finding a team’s weaknesses and exploiting them.

Bruise basically played the same game yesterday that he did against Pittsburgh last year. The only difference is that this time Murphy didn’t bail him out on a moon ball and Miami’s DBs caught made the EASY catches. The guy got all kinds of breaks yesterday. He faced a QB with a wooden leg. No Brandon Marshall. Ford spots him a 7-point lead. Miami made some curious play calls and Chad Henne had a couple of brain farts. We were at home. Blowout, right? Yeah, for Miami! Bruise has proven that even with all the good fortune in the world (AZ & Miami), he cannot win in this league.

Let’s say Grads is IR’d after the MRI….

Who do we bring in as our 3rd QB?

Well, I would say Daunte Culpepper since he just finished a season in Sacremento and is in game shape but I’m afraid there’s too many haters out there. He didn’t play real well his one season here (although he was the best of the 3 qb’s on the team) but if you’re just looking for an emergency qb, why not?

Can anyone explain why murphy started over DHB?

If DHB wasnt healthy why did he get on the field at all?

Murphy has dropped passes, fumbled balls and still doesnt know where he is on the field half of the time. He is out of bounds more than coaches. He is also giving his best randy moss gator arm impersonation.

DHB has out performed him. DHB has big flaws however he has had at least the one big game. He has also had a few nice moments with decent games this year.

DHB is paid 25 mil and drafted number seven. This along with the fact that he has outperformed all receivers on the field other than ford, mandates that he sees the field.

I dont understand the way the players are being managed over the last couple of weeks. You must put your young talent on the field in order to develop them and at the least, evaluate a their body of work..

This team needs to run the ball to have any success no matter who is the QB. Both of these guys can do a good job, not great, but they need to run the ball first. 2 weeks in a row they didn’t even try. 12 tries this week and 16 last week. They should have run 12 times in the first quarter and to the left, not the right. Soften them up and hit the d with Bush. Did anyone notice the Dolphins pass plays were timing routes? What the heck is wrong with jamming the receiver at the line? This would have created plenty of problems for Miami and helped our line out immensely.

What is so funny? Does murphy have a game like DHB had vs seattle? No. Out side of that game DHB and murphy have been about even. Difference is DHB hasnt had trouble staying in the field of play, and hasnt turned the ball over.

Only ford has played better than dhb. May not be saying much but it is the truth.

Add to those the fact that until the 4th quarter, our longest offensive drive was… wait for it… FOUR PLAYS! We had ZERO offensive possesions lasting longer than 10 plays. Our defense was on the field for 48 minutes! 48 minutes. Jacoby Ford bailed us out (all 17 points are directly because of his stellar play and nothing else) from a shutout. No Ford, No points.

  • YoungAmerican

Yeah, there’s no way the Raider defense holds up playing all man-to-man coverage for almost 50 minutes. It’s just not going to happen.

Murphy has as many catches in one game as DHB does for his career! Its not even close. I will agree that since returning from the bruised lung Murph looks totally lost, but to say DHB is better receiver? Come on dude, DHB isnt even a better receiver than KHALIF BARNES!

  • olinesux

they dont need a good oline they need an avg line…these guys are slow weak and lazy

  • SilverNBlackPA

    Mistic,

Take away the Seattle game from DHB (Murphy didn’t play, or else I’d deduct it from his stats as well) and this what you get:

    DHB–14 catches, 161 yards, 0 TDs in 9 games

    Murphy–28 catches, 435 yards, 1 TD in 9 games

    But, yeah, DHB is awesome.

  • SilverNBlackPA

Hell, the team should be working on correcting the flaws in Murphy’s game more than Heyward-Bey’s.

Murphy is salvageable. DHB is a lost cause. Throw him overboard.

  • mistic1

The staff is under the microscope after the boneheaded decision to bench campbell after the pitt game.

Pitt can make any qb look bad. Miami cant make that claim. pitt blitzed us out of the building. Miami is playing coverage, there is no rush on grads, he is just flat out missing. He turned a middle of the road defense into the 85 bears.

There goes the nonsensical notion about grads deep ball ability. The under throw to ford for the int is one of the worst passes i have ever seen a grown man make. That pass fell out of the sky like a frozen turkey. Ive seen weeble wobbles with better arms than grads.

    Who said awsome?

You cant take away the seattle game, it is part of DHB’s over all out put this season. Murphy has regressed from his promising yet shaky rookies season. On the field this year he has not looked any better than dhb. DHb is paid the big bucks and was drafted high. If the production is about the same between these two than you must play DHB and force feed him the ball. Especially since this season is over. this should have been the approach weeks ago in my opinion.

Pitt can make any qb look bad.

    ++++++++++++++++

They didn’t make Joe Flacco, Drew Brees or Tom Brady look all that bad.

    Flacco: 24 of 37 for 256 yards 1 TD, 1 INT

    Brees: 34 of 44 for 305 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT

    Brady: 30 of 43 for 350 yards, 3 TD, 0 INT

Of course all those three guys have talent, something sorely lacking in Campbell and Gradkowski (I was wrong about him, it seems. I admit it)

A good QB can beat the Steelers. Ours couldn’t because they’re not good.

  • SilverNBlackPA

    Mistic,

YOU’RE the one who said “Out side of that game [Seattle] DHB and murphy have been about even”

So I looked at the numbers of the games “outside that game” and showed that Murphy is far more productive than DHB could ever hope to be.

So, no, the production is not “about the same” as you say.

in many ways they should play loose as h3ll knowing NO ONE believes they have a chance (incl most of this board)…these guys have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to lose…

if we go out lets go out GUNS A ‘BLAZIN!

I also say confuse the issue..give BOLLER a shot…what do we have to lose? if not a start give SOUP can the -early- hook (again) if he reverts back to his catonic self….

and…since Gradglaski is going IR…sign that kid from Hawaii (brennan)…if for nothing else development for 2011…he had a knack for making tight throws and winning games…something we have been sorely lacking since 2002

one more thing…where the h3ll is D mcfadden? god= weeks 1-9..then ZERO…NADA? cant be all OL, sorry!
