Johnson, Branch sitting it out
By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Wednesday, December 1st, 2010 at 1:09 pm in Oakland Raiders.
Cornerback Chris Johnson was not present as practice began after warmups and drills Wednesday, while safety Tyvon Branch was talking wtih trainer Rod Martin and did not appear to be practicing.
Johnson missed the Miami game with a groin strain, and Branch has a shoulder injury.
Everyone else was present, and that included wide receiver Chaz Schilens (foot, knee), cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha (ankle), tight end Zach Miller (leg contusion) and even Bruce Gradkowski (separated shoulder).
It remains to be seen which players will actually practice and how much. Gradkowski was doing little more than jogging through drills that didn’t include the throwing of a football.

Zach Miller (foot) participated in Raiders practice Wednesday.
The Raiders’ decision to practice Miller on a Wednesday when he’s been totally ineffective while playing through the injury and also aggravating it is a head-scratcher to say the least. It looks like the plan is for Miller to face San Diego. He’s still not going to be a fantasy option.

DMAC,
The dropoff from Z Miller to Myers is such a gaping hole they just keep shoving him out there.

Nnamdi & Zach were both at far less than 100 percent against Miami … probably closer to 50 and it really showed
keep N21 on the shelf this week. We got Legadoo & Seyi anyways. Next week we’ll have Mike Thomas, Mike Sims-Walker & Marcedes Lewis!

Much more important for CJ to play than Branch, Mitchell should play instead of him on passing downs anyways. We need all the corners we can have this week, or WMac will have an even worse time this sunday

December 1st, 2010 at 1:36 pm
DMAC,
if Nnamdi is already practicing on Wednesday … he’ll play on Sunday, barring a setback
I hope he’s matched up with Floyd though, who is battling an injured hammy. too bad the Raiders lock him on 1 side of the field and Rivers isn’t afraid to go after him!
Huff will probably be in the slot covering SD’s 3rd WR – seeing how both rookie CB faired the past 2 weeks
that means more snaps for Stevie Brown & Mike Mitchell, even if Tyvon is good to go by then
December 1st, 2010 at 1:39 pm
Raiders injury scenario:
usually if a player can practice by Friday or Saturday, even on a limited basis – they’ll be active on Gameday
they even tested Nnamdi on Sunday morning before the Steelers game to see if he was ready, but he wasn’t (probably still isn’t)
December 1st, 2010 at 1:41 pm
Waddup fellas – Finally got to see a game from the official black hole section in the south side of the end zone on Sunday…unfortunately we played terrible, but had a good time nonetheless sitting amongst the hundreds of drunk Raider faithful….The opening kickoff return by Ford was probably my greatest live Raider fan moment ever. Being opening kickoffs already have everyone on their feet with the anxiety of the game starting coupled with Ford busting loose down the middle had us going BONKERS! Is any team receiving less in return for huge salaries than the raiders? DHB, Namdi, T. Kelly are stealing based on production. DHB is getting nearly 1 million per catch and Namdi..Well…when has he ever made a game changing play?
December 1st, 2010 at 1:42 pm
Has Ware really been that bad?
I thought he played fairly well, w/ limited action + being a rookie
Did give up the TD in Pitts, but who hasn’t given up a TD this year.

MB, who would you say is the best CB in the NFL? Revis has 0 interceptions this year also, is he bad also? Or is he just starting to get Nnamdi treatmet?
December 1st, 2010 at 1:45 pm
Namdi is badly under-performing his contract and his first few years were just plain awful. He is a fine player, but not worth having 16 Million in salary tied up for a below-average team.

Revis has something like 14 INT’s in his 3 or 4 yr career. #21 has 11 Int’s in 8 years. This year both Revis and #21 have none but Revis has been consistent throughout his career where #21 had about 6 of his 11 INT’s in 2006 alone, the rest of those years were empty.
Hard to say who the best DB is there are so many factors involved. I like both Cromartie’s, Revis, Bailey.

Kaepernick’s got a lot of moxie. Loved that Nevada-Boise game. One of the better college games I’ve seen in a long while.
But I just can’t see Al drafting a spread option QB, even if Colin’s improved his passing this year, he’s a run-first guy.
December 1st, 2010 at 2:04 pm
Anyone who says that N21 is stealing money doesn’t know much about the game of football. I some of the same people saying that about W24. He only went on to be Defensive player of the year.
N21 in only put into a position to take away 1 wr or one side of the field. he does that on a consistant bases.
In comparison, look at what W24 did when he was with us, same thing. Lack of INT is due to the lack of opportunity and defense that Al like to run.

According to Gradkowski:
“I don’t see the season being over for me yet,” Gradkowski said. “I mean, I’m not going to go down yet. I’m just going to keep preparing, just keep rehabbing. But I’m thinking a couple of weeks and get back. If we can make a run here, keep doing well in our division, I think we’ll be all right.”

Sorry Bruce, your 15 minutes of fame is over. We love your leadership, mobility, energy level and dedication but, your inadequacies far outweigh the pluses. Keep a good thought. I don’t like ANY qb’s in the draft if Hue Jackson is the play caller and Tom Cable is the HC …

the entire O-Line goes in the toilet with Cable if we don’t win 3 of the next 5 games (except for Veldheer & BCamp)
if we have another Cable & Jackson show next year, we might as well roll with Campbell, Boller & Frye at QB imo

Im with you with Cable and that stinky O-line. But I think Cable is going down the toilet no matter what. Jackson is going to be a hot coaching prospect this offseason and unless the raider finish at least 9-7 Hue is taking over, Davis is not letting him go that easy.

Stefan Wisnieski has dropped on alot of draft boards so far this year and so has Pouncey… Almost all of the boards have him going late 2nd… Kristopher Odowd has jumped past them… Colin Kaepernick isnt an Al Davis Qb but he does have a big arm and has show cased several time s in big games this year. I see what your saying with the backround. But look what he does with player development. I think a big reason why Mcfadden is as good as he is this year is because of Jackson. Also he implemented the power blocking scheme in Oakland. Give him credit for the way we have run the ball with the horrible line we got. He’s had to draw it up here pretty well to get what he has gotten. We are getting in the end zone a sh*t more than in the past. I think he deserves a chance.

Agreed, Hot Shot
Cable said prior to the season that this is a playoff team. Over the hump and all that jazz. So if the players aren’t motivated, hungry or prepared that falls back on the coaches. If the aren’t being used to the best of their abilities or being put in a position to succeed, that also falls back on the coaches.
One could even argue that fundamental mistakes like fumbles, false starts, offsides, holding, PI’s, etc fall on the coaches too (but I usually don’t)

Agree 100%
It’s not the coaches either. Al brings in coaches who he feels can run the Offense and Defense the way he wants.
Most or all of the player drafted over the past 7 years have been drafted in the right placed base on what the experts say.
McClain. Top 10 talent
DHB- Late first rd talent
DMC- Top 10 Talent
JaRuss- Top 5 talent, but bust potential was also mentioned
Michael Huff- TOP 10 Best (Safety in the entire draft)
Fabian Washington- 1st or early 2nd rd Talent
Robert Gallery- Top 5 talent (Best Lineman since Pace)
Nnamdi Asomugha- Late first early second rd talent.
All this the say, at some point, we have to stop blaming the coaches and the player and look at the system their in. Aside from Russell and Fabian, everyone of these player would benefit if they played in a system that allowed them to show their talent.

December 1st, 2010 at 11:40 pm
@89052Raider and mistabrown I can’t believe what i’m hearing from yall about the raiders most consistent player. Nnamdi has not under performed his contract at all. before he got the big contracr he didnt have pretty stats because he is always avoided. Nnamdi was a safety coming out of cal and al davis wanted him to play corner so he had to work at transitioning from a safety to a corner for a couple of years and he struggled a little at first but he has worked his way into the best corner in the nfl and dat is unheard of cause most guys who try to make dat move FAIL and if they do succeed they don’t become the player that asomugha has become so dat transition took a couple years off his career but from 2005 until now he has been great for the raiders and in 05 he was paired with charles woodson but it was woodson who the raiders couldn’t count on to lock down the opposing #1 receiver so Nnamdi was mostly matched up against them and held his on.(he wasn’t great) but i think dat 05 season is where da asomugha legend began.. and the very next year when teams texted him is when he made them pay and had his best statistical season with 8 int’s.. There was an interview where warren sapp said that in dat 05 season there were times dat nnamdi played perfect coverage and broke on the ball perfectly but he never got the int’s cause he could’nt catch and he hadn’t fully developed his ball skills..that changed in 06 and he has been the best corner every since. Here is a stat that i heard that will show what opposing quarterbacks feel about him…asomugha was thrown at 27 times last year, revis was thrown at 97 times last year(that nuber mite be higher but i remember it being 97). and now dat we have lost 2 in a row and he gave up a few catches in a game which he was clearly not healthy yall wanna bash him.. If he is healthy and qb’s test him trust me..those int number will increase.. and branch is a stud also..is just dat he has to spend most of his time round the line of scrimmage and when he is in coverage the lack of coverage by rout, johnson and huff make him look like he isn’t doin his job but if you listen to john marshall he will tell ya dat da those corners are not doin their job…
