It’s O’Sullivan; Gradkowski to I.R.

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Thursday, December 2nd, 2010 at 3:10 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Coach Tom Cable confirmed the signing of veteran quarteback J.T. O’Sullivan Thursday, as well as placing Bruce Gradkowski on the injured reserve list.

Cable said he wasn’t sure if Gradkowski would have surgery, but that there didn’t seem to be enough season left for him to make a comeback. Gradkowski was out five weeks after his initial third degree separation.

More to come . . .

    Kell,

    since 1995?

are you suggesting that Al Davis never should have moved the team back to Oakland, better known as the landfill of the Bay Area?

Maybe a move back to L.A. would persuade vet free agents to come here?!?!

Interesting to see what the 2011 market will be for Bruce Gradkowski.

Interesting some Raider fans are celebrating Bruce being put on the I.R. Celebrating someone else’s problems is usually a sign of envy. Were they perhaps threatened by Bruce Gradkowski, knowing he is better than the slated starter, who the owner has said is the next “Jim Plunkett”?

Kind of how it was useless for Jerry Quarry to fight Muhammad Ali.

  19. Just Fire Baby Says:

We should all give thanks that Bruce didn’t play like Charlie Frye last year.

If so, Jamarcus Russell would probably still be QB-ing for us, and we would not be 5-6 right now.

Bruce allowed Al to see that the problem was at QB, and got rid of Jamarcus and ushered in the forgettable Campellkowski era, but at least we are fielding a more competitive team.

I will pour some Bacardi and Coke out for Mr. Gradkowski tonight.

I still think of Seabass makes that kick in AZ, Bruce’s career might have went another direction. 2 out of 3 wins the year before, a comeback win against STL and a comeback win against AZ? That would have been 4 out of 5 wins with a lousy team.

Instead he missed, and the clock turned to midnight on Bruce.

I’m not celebrating Bruces injury but it is a relief to know he cant be forced into action again at less then 100%. JC can lead our Raiders to W’s. What is he 4-2 as our starter this season??? He is capable of winning if he is just a game manager with limited throws. Bruce should also have had limited throws. Our O-line needs to find their huevos and the play calling needs to be less predictable to get our the ground game back on track. Limit the time our D is on the field by our running game and we’ll have success again

  22. aig-raiders Says:

Sometimes a guy’s nfl career is all about timing. Bruce got some bad timing, but he was stupid for taking on the Houston safety. Hue was right that Bruce needs to save himself. Bruce can’t blame anyone but himself for not protecting his body.

BTW AB Paine or whatever name you are trollign with, it’s nice to know that last week you wanted Bruce to come in for the JC and now you’re giving him the finger. With friends like you, who needs enemies.

    *******************************

He failed to manage the clock yes, but it would have been a moot point if Hue got the call in quicker or DHB caught the pass that the NFLN put him on blast for dropping on 3rd down.

People bring up the 1 out of 5, but the 5th time was on the last kick, we never tried to score. So really he was 1 out of 4 that day, and Mike Bush had 2 attempts from the one and never got in, and DHB dropped a pass in the end zone.

Those errors mixed with Bruce’s bonehead decision to not use a timeout is the difference between 4 out of 4, and 1 out of 4.

Jason Campbell better play better or he is going to be on the market as well as Bruce.

The contract next year is not guaranteed, no guaranteed money, and he is set for a 50% pay raise.

Won’t see that if Hue is learning towards giving Boller or JT some run at the end of the year.

It is make or break for Campbell in his career right now, and let’s hope he makes it for the Raiders sake.

I think he plays well this weekend, but he needs to play well the next 5 weekends, or at least 4 out of the 5.

    _______________
Some improvement but number dont lie from the Texans game. As an NFL QB you need to protect the ball and manage the game.

C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT RATING
    B. Gradkowski 24/39 278 7.1 2 2 78.8

    FUM LOST REC
    B. Gradkowski 2 1 0

  39. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

Agreed, LA to the Bay. The league knows Bruce is good. He’s a WCO type of QB who can move the chains and they all know it. They won’t saddle him with some vertical offense like the Raiders did last week. He’s a fit on several teams, several teams better than the Raiders, too. This is probably the best thing that’s happened to him. And the Raiders lose one of their best players. When you’re in your 8th straight losing season, the last thing you should be celebrating is a good player going to the garage. But that’s Raider fans.

  40. LA to TheBay Says:

3/3 in the red zone weren’t they?

If you put that game on Bruce and the offense, you’re crazy. The D quit down 7, then down 14, then down 10.

  41. aig-raiders Says:

It’s stupid to see people still nitpick on Bruce for the AZ game. The goat of that game was spec team. They gave up 7 and missed 3 fgs including the game winner.

Had we scored on that next to last redzone series, who is to say that AZ would not have gone for it on 4th and 5 at our 45 yd line with 3 min left?

  42. Just Fire Baby Says:

  45. inonewordraider Says:

Campbell’s got the job and doesn’t have to worry about anyone breathing down his neck. I don’t think they’ll be leaning toward Boller at all.

  48. socalraider2408 Says:

I will not be critical and start laughing my ass off when he looks like the Jason Campbell that he’s pretty much looked like his entire NFL career. And I’ll be right here, observing with my fellow Raider fans. It will be fun.

  53. aig-raiders Says:

Bruce was good for the Raiders. He allowed Al to get rid of Jawalrus. that in itself is better than having Al sticking with Jawalrus for another year. I’m thankful for his time with us and hope they get him back.

  54. Just Fire Baby Says:

Can’t imagine San Diego is going to let Jason just dink and dunk his way down the field like last game against them.

Getting 3rd and 14 conversions on a dumpoff pass to Mike Bush was just as ridiculous as when we let Darren Sproles do the same ish to us the season opener in 2009.

  55. Just Fire Baby Says:

If Jason Campbell’s career repeats itself, he will play well in a loss this weekend or maybe pull out a nice win, regress the next week, lay a Pitt-SF type stinker soon there after, than play pretty well as we play out the string.

  56. The Real MaddenRaider Says:

    MR,

I can’t seem to find the video, but I have seen a segment on some NFL show about coaches and one of the featured coaches was Jon Gruden. Gruden knew then what we all know now….Garbagekowski is not an NFL QB.

This should not be a shock it is exactly wht the career numbers should have told you from the start.

Bruce stinks, and cable had to put him on ir in order to shut him up. Cable and grad flopped in the miami game, againn and humiliated themselves in the process. Bruce selfishly popped off that he could come back continuing to stir the contraversy. rather than suffer further humiliation Cable sent this weak armed turn over machine packing, along with his losing record.

Socal he sure did. The ironic thing his Gannon and Bruce were both hurt the same way. Trying to take on a line backer. Fortunatly Bruce has a chance to learn from it.

We need to stay healthy the rest of the way to get to 8-8 for the year. I want improvement. Al Davis needs to let go already. His vision and ways are suited for the 70’s-80’s, but not today’s advanced game. Advanced, I’m talking preperation, technology, etc. We have all that, but have a 80 year old owner acting as GM. I mean really, look around. All respect to Al Davis, but if you are unable to make trips with the team physically, you are unable to be the GM. Get over it!!!!

What’s the best part of not having a first round pk? You can pursue a first round caliber player in fa! We need a qb in the worst way.

Ok we know the first 2 won’t hit the market but let’s see who’s available.

Would love to hear Raider Nations thoughts on who they like. Or is their someone to trade for ? Kitna, Rosenfels!

    Top Quarterbacks

Peyton Manning, IND – There’s nothing to discuss here. Manning will stay in Indianapolis. It’s just a matter of getting the numbers ironed out.

Tom Brady, NE – Like Manning, there’s little doubt about Brady. Belichick has a little more volatility in his decision-making and more reliance in his system, but barring a major shocker, Brady will remain in New England.

Brett Favre, MIN – Favre is always a wildcard every offseason, but his contract will officially expire after season’s end. Another good year would grant him the opportunity to stay with the Vikings after missing another offseason, but anything otherwise puts his career in serious jeopardy.

Matt Moore, CAR – Moore heads into the season as the starting quarterback, but with rookies Jimmy Clausen and Tony Pike, the Panthers have several options if Moore doesn’t pan out. Depending upon his play this year, Moore could have a lucrative offer inis agents’ office by mid-season or could be kicked to the curb at the end of the year in favor of other options. The former seems more likely based upon his stellar performance in starting appearances.

Kyle Orton, DEN – With Tim Tebow as the likely “future” of Denver, Kyle Orton may have a limited career in Denver, making him one of the better potential commodities at the position this year. Orton has proven to be a solid, albeit unspectacular starter, who could keep a team competitive on offense.

Matt Hasselbeck, SEA – Hasselbeck has been torn by injuries and with a new Head Coach and General Manager in town, Hasselbeck will have exceed all expectations to stick around with a team looking to get younger. With a decent season, he could have some marginal value on quarterback-starved teams.

Alex Smith, SF – Like Matt Moore, if Alex Smith isn’t re-signed by his team, his value may be very miniscule around the league. In other words, if Smith has a good season, he’ll almost uncertainly be kept by the Niners. However, if he cements his status as a bust, he’ll have little but back-up value.
