Cable refutes Yahoo report

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Monday, December 13th, 2010 at 2:33 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Raiders coach Tom Cable said at his weekly press briefing he and Hue Jackson enjoyed a laugh over the Yahoo! Sports report which said the two had a strained relationship.

Cable said he had no problems with Jackson’s play-calling Sunday, including the sequence when Kyle Boller was in at quarterback and the Raiders wound up turning the ball over on an interception.

More to come . . .

    Yeah, the only rift between the two might be Jackson taking Cable’s job.

    *******

    Hey me too.

  12. Dakota Says:

    Jason Campbell is what we thought he would be:

    1) better than Russell, because he
    2) usually plays it safe, but
    3) makes some bad decisions, and
    4) can’t be relied upon to win you games, and only
    5) looks okay when the run game is going.

    The problem is that there are few QBs available next year in free agency that would be much of an upgrade, so what we need to do is:

    1) Get a blocking FB and commit to becoming a run orientated team….run, run, run and pass only when you need to;
    2) concentrate on improving the o-line, specifically the RT, RG and C positions;
    3) Continue to build the defense by adding better LBers and safeties that know how to take correct angle of pursuit;
    4) wait to add a new QB unless someone drops into the second round that we can’t pass up (Locker?).

    oh and fire the Wife Beating Buffoon.

  13. A.B. Paine III Says:

    If Cable didn’t have a problem with those play calls, when Boller was in, then he should definitely be fire.

  14. alex7 Says:

    Cable has lost his momentum from the middle of the season.

    Raiders will lose two of the next three because they are simply not better than the Colts and Chiefs at home with playoffs on the line will probably result in a loss.

    Cable will likely be gone.

  15. 909RaiderLifer Says:

    What? Cable, and Hue didn’t hold hands and sing ‘Kumbya’ at the presser?

  16. RaiderRockstar Says:

    I think the Raiders learned an expensive lesson yesterday – that the 5 safety/no corner defense is crap!

    and that even though DMAC brought us back from devastating Boller & Ford turnovers, this defense still caves at the first sight of adversity.

    Marshall is older than dirt, but we would have won that game against SD last year if it weren’t for his prevent defense that we thought got flushed along with Rob Ryan, too. This guy has some hairbrained ideas imo

    we got torched against SF through the air with that zone defense using a bunch of DB’s only schooled in man2man coverage.

    Beleive it or not we may just be better off using the old fashioned Al Davis defensive philosophy. Seems like every time to stray away from it, we get burned!

    Al Davis for DC!

  17. alex7 Says:

    Dakota

    as long as Davis realizes what you realize, and keeps his eyes out for a future NFL signal-caller, then I’m all for that plan.

  21. alex7 Says:

    Sigh.

    RR, that Al Davis philosophy of man to man is the sole reason we’re in the bottom ten in run defense every single year this decade except for 2002 (offense gave us leads, other team = pass).

    Remember what Drew Brees did to us in pre-season last year? That was fun to watch.

    Ben had similar success this year.

    Our defense must be one of the easiest to game plan against.

    ++++++

    Too bad that isn’t true. The Raiders would have to win out and KC would have to lose two of three and SD would have to lose at least once.

  25. alex7 Says:

    Raider75, while technically correct, the only reason we stayed relevant this long this year is because our division sucks.

    Most years, when you’re 5-6 after 11 games, you’re done.

    We’re still very likely to finish 6-10 or 7-9 with the easiest schedule we’ve seen here in a long time.

    Media isn’t that impressed, and our coaching situation is a little more newsworthy than “Hey! We’re going to improve by one game over last season!”

  26. ArmChair GM Says:

    Darren Mcfadden had the best game of his career in my opinion.

    He was unstoppable.

    On a separate note, did anyone hear Cable say that the reason the Raiders used that 5 safety package was because Nnamdi was having issues with his ankle on that play?

    Well if that’s the case, why was Routt also on the sidelines? What about Chris Johnson?

    That sounded like a pile of crock to me. To not have ONE cover corner on the field on that play was an abomination!

    Terrible formations, no pressure on the QB…Marshall and Co. stunk it up in the second half.

    He proved it in Washington and is proving it here.

    He’s turning 30 next season and isn’t our long-term answer if we want to be a team that can beat the top teams out there.

    i disagree that cable be fired. it will only set us back. give him one or two more yrs. if next yr is a joke then fire hime but if we are better than this yr then we make the playoffs and keep him.
    ++++++++++

    That would be true to your name! Why do people think Cable will suddenly somehow become a good HC?
    =============
    im not saying he will just some how be great but after Kiffin, Art, Norv…ect i actually see the players play real ball. i see them play 60 min not 30. i see the way they carry themselves over yrs past and i like what i see. we are really just a good consistant QB away from killing it. Our HC is not our problem in my eyes but i see a vast mental improvment over the last 8.
    ===============
    You can’t be serious!
    The players play 60 minutes?
    You have short term memory loss? Long term? Selective memory?
    Have you actually followed this team since Cable “took over”, which I use loosely?
    The list is loooong on what Cable does wrong.
    The list on what he does right is pretty much non-existent.
    But hey. You like him, so, there you go.

  99. Glutten for Punishment Says:

    One improvment i see mostly is they keep after it when sh!t hits the fan. yrs past they would have given up after the ford fumble and tucked their tails but no, they put up two more TDs after falling behind to tie it. two yrs ago this would have been 38 17. not another pt after that play.

  100. alex7 Says:

    What changes do you think he’ll incorporate?

    JHILLLLLLL,

    I’m calling you out right now……..You effin pisses me off. You have a problem with not admitting when you are wrong.

    here is the game film jerkoff. 11 seconds left and not 6 secs as you stated. You are flat out wrong and you know it.

    ——————————————————

    I said he CAUGHT THE BALL WITH 6 SECONDS LEFT.

    LMFAO!

    You want to zero in on the time left on the clock?

    What about your claim that there were 2 WRs streaking into the end zone?

    Why are you pz’d off, lol?

    I can’t open the link you posted but I have the game on DVR ready to discuss whatever you see on tape.

    YOU are wrong and making shhhhh up!

    So you to YOUR point, there was 11 seconds left on the clock and the QB had only DHB streaking deep with double coverage. Ford was running a pattern to the sideline, right or wrong? Both DEs came in damn near unblocked forcing a throw off the backfoot, right or wrong?

  102. J Hill Says:

    Is JHill saying that throwing the ball to DHB in the end zone with 11 seconds left and no timeouts was

    NOT

    the right thing to do?

    —————————————————–

    I’m saying DHB was double covered and was the only guy going deep. Campbell took a chance with the 15 yd sideline route hoping the WR would get OOB. The rookie WR cut it up under the defender to get OOB.

    Were you able to open AIGs link?

    What did you see on that last play?

  105. alex7 Says:

    Glutten,

    I agree that the team plays harder nowadays. Haven’t seen any quit in them the way they did last year against the Giants and Texans.

    Wonder how much of that has to do with the Cable’s enthusiasm, how much has to do with Russell leaving, and how much has to do with Hue Jackson’s much improved offense.

  106. Glutten for Punishment Says:

    trust me sammyBull, i would lick the sweat off Als nuts if he locked up Cowher or someone like that but it aint happening and this is what we got and it is an improvment, might not be a ton of it but is nuntheless.

  107. Norco Bob Says:

    Since when do head coaches and OC`s and DC`s get along?…some might, but by and large they are rarely in same meetings, rarely cross paths,…in most cases dislike each other or more likely barely know each other,…Im sure there is tension with Cable and Huey,..as well as with Cable and his DC Phil Donahue…it happens with most teams if not all of them,…Yahoo Sports is a flop,..they get losers like Mike Silverstein and Jason Cole to write crap that is typical internet lies,…like the one when they lied about most coaches wanted Mike Mitchell released, which was of course 100% baloney. But JHill, wouldn’t receivers be double-covered on every single hail mary? You still have to throw it instead of asking a receiver to shake off a defender and get out of bounds with 6 seconds left.

    I think more importantly, Aig was showing us how JC has a history of these types of non-killer-instinct plays, and why he has such a losing record.

  110. J Hill Says:

    11 secs left and homie threw 16 yds up for grabs and it wasnt even to the sideline. Ford was no where near the sideline for a tap. You either throw out of bounds or into the endzone.

    —————————————————–

    Are you really telling me Ford wasn’t running TOWARDS the sideline?

    Of course it was a duck you CLOWN! Isn’t that what throwing off your backfoot because the DEs are in your face?

    Did you see him make a move to shake the DE but decide against it and heave it towards Ford?

    Who the EFF said it was a nice sit in the pocket read and throw to the sidelines?

    It was a busted play! Oline BROKE DOWN!

    You act like the guy sat in the pocket, dropped back, and threw it to a RB 5 yds down field, lol.

    Oh, and why are you mad again?

  112. RaidingTexas Says:

    Alex, he’s better than Boller. What else can the Raiders do? They don’t have a better QB option right now. It is what it is.

    I don’t think anyone is campaigning for Jason to be the long-term solution. Despite preferring him to Bruce, I have said here multiple times that we need to draft a franchise QB in the Bradford/Luck mold. I don’t want any more castoffs (McCown/Campbell), retreads (Daunte), journeymen (Bruce/Boller), etc.

    Alex,

    Let’s not make this that hard. DHB going into the endzone against double coverage making a catch he’s never made in his life?

    If it’s really down to that as the option how about neither one of them would be smart?

    Now why don’t you tell me why, if it was indeed a Hail Mary situation, why we didn’t have Chaz and JLH in the game ALSO sending EVERYONE into the endzone?

    Why were Ford and Murphy even running short routes to begin with????

    THAT is what I’d rather discuss that does JC suck because he didn’t overcome Carlisle running into him or if he should have thrown to DHB in the endzone.
