End 3rd qtr: Colts 24, Raiders 16

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer
Sunday, December 26th, 2010 at 3:24 pm in Oakland Raiders.

Third quarter notes

— Indianapolis had the ball with a first-and-10 at their own 25 on the last play of the quarter following an offsides penalty by Matt Shaughnessy on third-and-3.

– After the Colts scored, the Raiders went three and out as Jason Campbell was sacked by Dwight Freeney for seven yards on first down.

– Peyton Manning’s 4-yard touchdown pass to Blair White against Stanford Routt put the Colts up 24-16 with 2:55 left in the third quarter.

Manning changed the play at the line of scrimmage while staring directly into a Black Hole trying to make enough noise to make it impossible.

Indianapolis was the beneficiary of a ticky-tack pass interference flag against Routt who was flagged for minimal contact on an incompletion to White on a seam route, setting up the Colts with a first down at the 13-yard line.

—Janikowski converted from 52 yards following an incomplete pass from Campbell to Ford in the red zone with some aggressive defense from Cornelius Brown that could have _ and maybe should have _ drawn a flag for pass interference.

It brought Oakland within 17-16 with 7:53 left.

— The Raiders failed to cash in on a Manning interception and went three and out from their own 43.

On the Colts’ first series, Manning overthrew Tamme, who was being covered by Rolando McClain, with Huff making the catch from deep safety on a dive.

Another 30 plus pts given up by the defense!

  • 504 Raider

Hue Jackson needs Art Shell’s notepad right about now.

  • Plunketthead

I like how everytime CJ gets burned he waves it off like it was incomplete or out of bounds and pass interference

  • Raiders for life

Peyton looks like he’s on vacation and relaxing in Hawaii.

  • olinesux

yeah champ deserves to be here

  • http://www.hotmail.com The Dirtee Raccoon

How the heck can you defend in the endzone with your back to the QB?

  • SnB Production

Big hold by Marcel Reece by the way

  • Plunketthead

Bruce cant play or he would be in there, besides he is inactive again, Im pretty sure

  • SnB Production

The defense has gotten abused all year.

A 2nd CB is more important than any position on the field given the Raiders rigid defensive philosophy

  • ArmChair GM

It’s been fun guys…And thus endeth the season.

Lot’s of improvement over all as a team, but we are not there yet.

At least there is a light at the end of the long, dark, tunnel…

  • Just Fire Baby

Tebow is going to end up with more passing yards than any other QB today, lol.

  • morilla

    Bye bye San Diego.

San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York said Sunday via text message that the team will hire a general manager and ultimately a new head coach, suggesting Mike Singletary will not return next season.

The 49ers parted ways with former GM Scot McCloughan in March and have operated without someone in that position since. Vice president of player personnel Trent Baalke, whom York said would be a candidate for the job, has handled GM-type decisions.

Unlock HQ Video HQ video delivered by Akamai
York, speaking after the 49ers were officially eliminated from playoff contention with a 25-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams, said the team will conduct a GM search that will then lead to another head coach. Singletary could be gone before the 49ers’ season finale against the Arizona Cardinals next week.

Sources close to several of the top available coaching candidates — ESPN analyst Jon Gruden and Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh in particular — indicated that both men could be interested in the impending vacancy, but they would require a restructured front office and a proven GM heading up the personnel department.

Singletary is 18-22 in two-plus seasons with the 49ers. He took over as interim coach midway through the 2008 season after Mike Nolan was fired, then was given the job on a permanent basis following a 5-4 finish.

Singletary led the team to a 8-8 record last season, leading many to pick the 49ers as NFC West favorites. Instead, San Francisco slumped to 5-10 amid quarterback controversies and other issues.

Yes Alex takes some of the blame but it all starts at the coaching if you don’t have a good head coaching it will only doom the whole team you can not just all the blame on Alex

It’s time for John Marshall to go. To many defensive breakdowns this season…

  • Plunketthead

On the bright side we kept it close for awhile.
In years past we would be beaten down and their scrubs would be running all over us

  • SnB Production

    Plunkett,

You are right! Bruce Campbell can’t freekn play. You would think someone so bad that they can’t be activated in a game would have bad film that would have prevented a 4th round selection.

  • morilla

Don’t blame the defense. They have kept them in this. No offense at all and it’s all field goals.

  • Just Fire Baby

We have 70 less yards offensively than we did in the Miami game.

  • djohnnyg

All right. I for one am done with Jason freaking Campbell.

It’s not like we’re playing the 85 Bears defense today.

He has not moved this offense at all.

Let’s get a real QB in the offseason please.

He’s not horrible, but he ain’t that good either. He’s just kind of “there”.

  • 901Raiders

John Marshall may need his walking papers. If you’re gonna blitz and show Manning the blitz, your corners need to jam the receivers to throw their timimg off.

  • sirblitzalot

Stanford Routt and Chris Johnson are BOTH garbage. They suck!!!

  • Plunketthead

    TT cant play QB?

  • olinesux

cantbell throws the longest two yard incompletion ever

  • ArmChair GM

We have no reliable receivers…It is holding our offense back…Must address this in the off season.

If the Raiders get a new QB next year…I won’t bother watching…..done with these endless transition seasons

  • Just Fire Baby

Campbell never saw a check down he never loved.

It kills our rushing game when he just takes the 4 yard pass, even if there is no pass rush.

Everyone on the D bunches up the LOS.

  • Thec07

mashall should have been on suicide watch…

  • Raiders for life

    FUG

  • RaidingTexas

Damn, just got home after a four hour drive from Oklahoma. Sucks to see that we were eliminated before the game even started.

  • buckeyeraider

The Raiders sure are missing Seymour today. His absence is allowing the Colts to double TK. As a result Manning has all day. Front four can’t get there.

As a result Marshall has to blitz Manning to even try and pressure him. Peyton is just toying with Raider blitzes.

He looks like a mischievous child with a magnifying glass and an anthill.

  • SnB Production

and another message! THERE ARE NO QBS AVAILABLE!

We got Camnpbell for a 4th rounder in 2012….that’s the best we got.

I’ll take him going into the offseason with a year under his belt…then to roll the G-D dice again on another washout QB.

This is the cost of NOT BEING ABLE to develop your own QB.

It’s because Campbell has no faith in his o-line or his receivers. They haven’t played at a consistently reliable level all season…

  • Just Fire Baby

Tim Tebow has twice as many yards from scrimmage as our entire team today.

  • VanHeathen

Could Campbell lead a receiver one time please?
he constantly throws behind his receivers.
    GARBAGE!

  • Raiders for life

Campbell playing like he did at SF.

  • Thec07

And in other news, discharge getting handled by bengals….hahahahaha Disc is eliminated…

  • Pretty Rick

Oh well,,game over. We finish 8-8 Cable may keep his job, 7-9 Cable is probably good as gone then we can fantasize about Bill Cohwer & Jim Harbaugh.

  • Raiders for life

WOW. AD is looking good. That made me moist.

  • olinesux

saw bruce campbell try to block on spt and he missed even the green grass on the field!

  • edward teach

    JFB,

The Colts bunch the LOS because they kow we can’t pass block and Campbell either has to get rid of the ball in about a second andf a half, or get sacked.

I know you don’t like Campbell, but please try to engage a little football intelligence before you slam him.

  • 504 Raider

They showing big Al in his suite and you can read his lips dropping F-Bombs. LMAO!

Or drafting a franchise QB who is a syrup head….BRL set us back a half a decade…

  • buckeyeraider

    JFB,
It’s not fair to put all this on JC. The Raiders O-line is overmatched. Badly. They’re not exactly run blocking either. Raiders have sprung a couple of long ones to help the average.

But, overall Indy has owned the l.o.s.
    Both sides.

  • J Hill

No reason DHB shouldn’t have had more throws his way today. He’s looked good, and these screens are simply not working.

The 5 yd sideline route to Ford is kinda baffling as well! Why not have that as an in route and give the guy a chance to do something with the ball.

Didn’t like the play calling much today.

Spread them out with Ford, DHB, Schillens and Murphy with DMac in the backfield.

Try SOMETHING different for goodness sakes!

  • ENGLANDRAIDER

Sure Campbell is nervous about the OL but he hasn’t played well either and then there is the play calling.
I don’t see how you can blame the defense.
