Final: Colts 31, Raiders 26

Fourth quarter notes

– Peyton Manning’s 7-yard back shoulder throw to Pierre Garcon with 7:38 to play put the Colts up 31-19 and in control.

Indianapolis, following Janikowski’s fourth field goal fo the game, drove 68 yards nine plays, doing much of the damage on the ground as the Raiders stuck almost exclusively with the big nickel defense they used most of the game.

– The Colts played a deep Cover 2 and enabled the Raidres to pile up completions while eating up valuable clock time in the fourth quarter.

– The Raiders drove 80 yards in 12 plays to score on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Jason Campbell to Zach Miller, but Jacob Tamme recovered Sebastian Janikowski’s onsides kick.

— Manning’s second interception of the game, this one by Chris Johnson after a deflection on a slant route to Garcon deflected by Rolando McClain, set Oakland up at the 37.

The Raiders only netted 10 yards with a third-down sack by Mathis forcing Janikowskon to the field for his fourth field goal of the game, this one from 45 yards with 12:59 left, bringing Oakland within 24-19.

    Mac,

I’m good bro. I just don’t think Monkeys should be allowed to vote or post.
    Damn you Monkeys!!!!!

Mike S can help our D, and improve our young LBs especially McClain.

I thought about this too however, is spingletary DCO material? I know he was a great LB but what is his scheme?

The Raiders Running game got stuffed in the 1st qtr. Give Up!

    REALLY SERIOUSLY?

  • morilla

Hey, I agree 42 times is not this teams M.O. That game was a mirror image of the Miami game.

I am not sure how the dynamic works between the two. Maybe Hue is under direct control from above on certain things. And if that’s the case, no HC will have veto power in this system.

  • alex7

First drive: DMC 2 runs, 6 yards, we punt.

    2nd drive: DMC 1 run, -4 yards.

3rd drive, 3 and out, quarter over.

We tried running the ball. It gave Manning the ball many times.

Give up running the ball in the 1st qtr, against the #30 rush defense?

    REALLY SERIOUSLY?

  • RaiderRetribution

Raiders get burned often when we go into zone, because we do not play it very often, we probably have this glazed look on our face, and Peyton just reads it,

biggest problem of the day is we never got to Manning, even when we blitzed, we had minimal pressure, no sacks though, Seymour would have made a difference, no way Dominic looks like a pro-bowler with Richard in there.

It was an intense game, too many FGs, not enough sacks, TDs, rushing attempts.

  • alex7

    2nd quarter

3 of 8 plays 1st drive were runs. FG.

5 of 11 plays 2nd drive were runs. FG.

For the first half, Hue Jackson tried running the ball almost half of all the plays, even though we were sucking at it.

    Leave our best coach alone.

You can’t run the ball on the Indianapolis Colts.

    REALLY SERIOUSLY?

    Thec,

All Raider DCs have to play man, and they are not allied to blitz. The can only attach the QB! lol

We lost. The #2 Rushing team in the NFL had 14 carries and 42 pass attempts, in a close game.

  • alex7

    KK,

just to be clear, you would have continued to run the ball ineffectively the 2nd half of the game too, right?

Even as the Colts kept putting up points, and we settled for punts and FGs.

Just want to make sure I understand what you would have done.

  • RaiderRetribution

Cable did get us in the right direction, brought us to respectability.

He is not going to lead us to the playoffs though.
Tom does not have the authority to ovrride Hue, he said it so himself. He and Hue are friends, but it is Hue’s offense.

Raiders need that coach that will get the Raiders to play inspired football against weaker teams.

We are 2-3 players (a veteran WR, OL, and a speed rusher and 2-3 coaches (WR, DC, & HC) away from the SuperBowl.

exactly, the way to beat manning is to confuse not to blitz, after that the pressure will work, sais so in earlier post.

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

Btw, thanks to Jacoby Ford, the Raiders started with a lead, and could have called whatever they wanted.

  • alex7

I can see KK going 3 and out constantly in the 2nd half, running Bush and McFadden into 8-man fronts, punting, giving Manning the ball, and getting blown out.

Then KK would congratulate himself for having 20 runs (they don’t add up much when you go 3 and out, huh KK :) ) and 10 passes in the game, for a time of possession of 3 minutes total, and 13 points.

  • morilla

Overall, I am pretty happy this year with what has happened. There is improvement and a glimmer that this team can be a force. I got to go to a game and see them beat the Donks. SD is knocked out of the playoffs and being down here is great now. It’s suicide watch.

I thought 8-8 ( i know, not yet) would be a huge improvement. I think next year can be a special. Just a couple of pieces away.

One more to go. How about 6-0 in the division? Nation!!!!

  • alex7

And KK, they did call whatever they wanted, running the ball almost half the time, without success, for the entire 1st half.

  • Thec07

What was the teams 3rd down conversion percentage?
Run or Pass we had our shots in the red zone, seems to me we failed to convet those opps…

  • alex7

Morilla, what pieces would you say we’re still missing? If you don’t mind, list them in priority, I’m curious.

  • http://www.pro-football-reference.com/ KoolKell

It’s not like the Raiders were forced to pass. 80 yds rushing, against the Colts?

Giving up 191 yds on the ground?

    That was Hue Jackson’s audition.

  • RaiderRetribution

yes Alex, how many times must it be said, you must run the football, even when you are averaging only 2-3 yards a carry to set up your passing game (unless you have a Manning, Brady, Vick, or Brees).

Key note that even the CBS researches caught Darren leads the league in plays of 20+ yards.

Sometimes you have to put up with alot of 2 yd gains until you break one.

That and the size and speed of the Colts D we were playing right into there hands.

    Thec,

JC kept checking down on 3rd downs. No idea why.

Actually, I know why. He plays not to lose, not to throw picks, he needs to be reminded by his coach to “cut it loose” even though it’s his 6th year, takes no chances, even if it’s the only way to win.

I would say a veteran WR, fix the right side of the OL, and work on our secondary ( there has been some shaky play back there as of late).

  • alex7

It’s Hue Jack’s fault we couldn’t run the ball when he tried running it on 40% of our 1st half’s plays?

He called for runs on 5 of our first 8 plays. The Colts stopped us, we punted twice. Hue kept running it 2nd quarter, and the Colts were expecting it and shoving it.

But it’s Hue’s fault for not being able to block 8 men with 6 men.

    You are something else.
