Looks like Raiders will play spoiler

By Jerry McDonald - NFL Writer

Arrived to spectacular sunshine at the Coliseum but a gloomy outlook in terms of the playoffs with the Chiefs taking a 24-0 lead when I got to the press box.

With the Tennessee Titans not being much of a come from behind team in terms of a passing game, Oakland’s finale will be similar to 1999, when they took a 7-8 record into Arrowhead and bounced the Chiefs from the playoffs. Oakland’s 41-38 overtime win gave Seattle the AFC West title . . .

Anyone know why Randy Moss hasn’t caught any passes for Tennessee? I don’t even think I’ve seen him on the field…

  • GoodOle00

Still going to mess with Colts playoffs…

    G***amn mother****ing Titans.

    terrapin

cable said that he put alot of emphasis on the division games and that may have resulted in such a different performance against the rest of the league. we need a real direction for this team. al will spend all of his money on talent but doesnt match that talent with the best coaching. its azz backwards to me.
al davis has alot of soul serching to do. stop fugging around with these wannabes and get some proven winners here to lead this young talented team.

    Titans Suck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just Fire Baby

Let’s not forget Campbell played against the AFC West last year for the Skins.

I think that helped him immensely.

  • TerrapinRaider

The question of whether or not to keep Cable is a really good question. I don’t know the answer. But my gut and observations for production and listening to them speak that Hue is a better coach.

I forgot all about that Figurs returning punts at the start of the season. That and Velheer starting Center with very little by way of snaps. Those were coaching decisions and very bad ones at that.

  • armond

its gonna be hard as hell for me to go to the game 2day and be happy. hopefully a miracle will happen by the time i get there.if kc wins we are out. hopefully sd will win and then we can return the favor to kc next week like in 99. if they eliminate us then we owe it back to them. fugg what sd does right now.

The coaches surronding Todd Haley are making him look real good. I think we all know Haley is a freakin’ awful HC but he’s surrounded himself with a bunch of HCs that are making him look good.

  • Thec07

Next time take crae of your own bizness…

  • J Hill

bush is a damn good back. the coaches should use him more along with dmc. it wont cost as much to keep him and we can still get vjax.

    —————————————————–

I just don’t see Bush coming back to get 5 to 8 carries per game. I disagree with Hue giving Bush DMac’s goaline carries. And everytime, or most of the time I see Bush carrying the ball I’m wondering why DMac doesn’t have it. DMac is 6’1 215 and pounding defenses. He should not be splitting carries or have a Reggie Bush type role. Not to hard to find a big back to replace Bush IMO.

And I would have no problem with him going to Denver!

The win at KC in ’99 was a turning point for the Raider franchise. Let’s do it again. Hopefully SD loses today (doubtful) so we won’t put them in the playoffs.

  • J Hill

we need a de more than dt cuz we only have 3 including scott.

    ——————————————————-

I have a feeling we are going to see Houston at DT sooner than later. I have no problem adding a DE good enough to expedite that .

  • YoungAmerican

To be fair, the Raiders have no one to blame but themselves after laying down in Miami and blowing the Jacksonville game. But it would have been nice to get some (any?) help.

Still, it was a longshot. Oh well. It just baffles me because KC is not THAT good. They’re a good team, but the teams they’ve played lately have made them look like the defending league champs or something.

  • armond

i will say that this offseason should be fun to talk about upcoming roster/coaching moves to make. i believe we will be a better team and will definitely get to the playoffs. this was a learning year and the sting of fugging up what was ours will motivate them to finish what they started. boy do we need an organized staff or what. dont forget all of the timeouts wasted to get a simple play in. people blame jc for the end of the jax game but the problem was hue getting the plays into him on time. that has happened way 2 much and there is no way he should be a hc.

  • YoungAmerican

    against* Miami

  • Thec07

cables stays at 8-8 he loses the next 2 and he is sent packing…

  • Just Fire Baby

Offseason talk will die down when every facility is a ghost town until the labor issue is resolved.

Cable is on the last year of a contract, and Al will be in no hurry to do anything (one way or another) until any type of resolution.

It might be a very sloooooooooow offseason.

Yeah I could definitely see that.

  • Thec07

Yead i forgot about miami….Our up and down consistency was a major result of the youth at key positions. We will be a better team next year, with a year under our belts.

  • SnB Production

    Jhill,

It took the Raiders 8 years to find a good running back. I am keeping Bush on the roster. This team is not very good finding replacement talent and its certainly not good with managing depth.

One look at the Receiver situation should confirm that.

The Raiders should be running the ball 30+ times a game.

If the Raiders give DMAC all of those carries…he will have about two more years left of productive football.

If they can keep Bush, they should.

Its going to take another 5 years to get a decent receiver corps….keep the running game strong

Az alone and the Raiders would control their own destiny

  • Just Fire Baby

RB is the easiest position to replace, especially average ones.

  • GoodOle00

    14. Yeah, Weiss and Crenell? Yeah, thats a good supporting cast.

  • SnB Production

    KC plays of the year:

Janikowski from 30 yards against Arizona

5 safety backfield on 2nd and long against Jax

  • Thec07

I wll say that regarding McClain he has mproved, and the D does play better when he is in the game. He will be a force for years to come however he is not Rookie of the Nation…JFORD is…

    ————–

That simply won’t work all the time. Good defenses figure out good running games. That has happened to the Raiders on multiple occasions. You have to play balanced football or you can’t win consistently in this league.

  • GoodOle00

Correct. Bush stays. I feel like he’s been under utilized for whatever reason.

Good back who has improved in all facets.

Look for him to have a good game if he sees more action.

  • armond

    jhill

i know what u sayin about bush. i remember u baggin on him 2 years ago when u wanted to trade him. hahaha!! this draft has alot of quality dlineman and lb’s so we need to stock up on that to keep rebuilding that front 7. dmc should get those goal line carries and it makes me sick he doesnt get rewarded for doing most of the work. how many td opportunities got fugged up cuz we didnt use our best player inside the redzone more? hue has alot of soul searching to do 2 cuz he really blew some easy chances for us to get td’s. how many teams avoid giving the ball to their best player as much as he did? we didnt ride dmc enuff and it killed us.

  • SnB Production

DMAC’s durability is still not confirmed either. I dont’ want to be in a situation where one injury and the Raiders have to turn to LaMont Jordon or Justin FArgas

  • Thec07

I like our 2 back rotation however, I see MBUSH leaving to be an every down back…competitors love to play, in MBUSH’s mind he beleives he should be toting the rock…

BUt it will work MOST of the time. Until Al Davis gets some REAL receivers, its the running game that sets up the pass

    +++++++++

Yep, and he would be on suide watch next year, and no way I make this guy head coach…

  • Just Fire Baby

Bush should never see much more than 10 carries a game (if that) the way Darren is playing.

He got his chace in the SF game, and he was pathetic.

Plus, he is bald, always asking out of games and not well-conditioned, and has a titanium rod in his leg.

He is 27 going on 34.

  • Just Fire Baby

Wow, 24-7 KC, they miss a FG and the Titans have the ball at the 40 and get the ball after the half.

    Pick 6 on first play.

  • SnB Production

Mario Henderson getting manhandled on that goalline run hurt this team as well.

Coaches have to get better playcalling, Janikowski has to earn his check and the Raiders need a 2nd cornerback so we don’t have to see that awful “5-safety set” again!

  • olinesux

kerry collins to the rescue…uhm not really.

  • SnB Production

    JFB,

DMAC pulls that hamstring again…and we will all be in here complaining about depth again

  • armond

we also need to see a dramatic improvement from dhb. that dude has killed what hopes we had for him and he better step it up next year. bush isnt an average back. he is much better than given credit for but i will say that dmc has made him look expendable but i wont take bush for granted. keep our most talented players and build upon that. naamdi is the only 1 i would consider cuz of his age and he might get us alot in return. we arent that far away but better coaching would get us there faster.

    ***************************

Not sure if you are being serious or sarcastic but some coaches that become HCs find that they are not great HCs but only great OC/DCs. Marvin Lewis is not a great HC …he sucks; but he may be one hell of a DC. Norv Turner is one hell of an OC.

  • jmcclain

Just the raiders luck to have cassell have one of his best games of his carreer today out of all days. Bummer still raiders need to show up today. Show the league what there gonna have to deal with next yr.

  • Just Fire Baby

Bush is averaging 3.8 ypc this year, which is exactly what Fargas averaged last year.

What am I missing on Michael Bush? There isn’t a team in the league that is going to hand him a starting job.

    ———–

It won’t work most of the time. The Raiders saw that this season. Dominant running games only take you so far, even with two quality backs. Minnesota, Tennessee, Jacksonville, and Miami are just a few of the teams who found out that if you can’t pass it when you need to, the running game can’t carry you.

If you want to settle for eight wins a season, the running game alone might get you that. But any good team (Ravens, Steelers, Patriots) will overcome that easily.

This is exactly why you upgrade the passing game with either a veteran WR or a sure-handed rookie.
