Most Overrated Position on the football field is…(no BoSJack it ain’t LS)…Wide Receiver by a large margin.

    cases

CPalmer looked like Bobby Hebert until Chad85 and TO were banished. With parking lot scrubs at WR Carson has his best game in years.

With a virtual who’s who of Houshmanzadeh, Stallworth, Mason and Boldin, Flacco is pressed to complete 15 passes per game. (speaking of Boldin, both he and BMarshall, the cream of WRs acquired in the offseason have done virtually nothing this year.)

    Brady has midgets.

Peyton throws to guys who were selling hot dogs in the stands when the season began.

Rams and Bears are playoff-bound with nary a #2 WR (let alone a #1 WR) between them.

RMoss might’ve caught a pass in December, can’t be sure.

Best receiver in the game, LFitzgerald is MIA.

Rivers threw to practice squad wannbes for most of the year.

Sure, there might be a Roddy white or CalvinJ or Bowe or DeSean doing well this year but the majority of the Divas are simply overhyped.

I like miller as a punt returner. At leat he heads north and south unlike Gumby Higgins. I don’t think campbell will be the starter and I think carlile retires.

I know time to throw is also crucial, but times I don’t see any reads to one side or the other with Campbell, and many open WR’S are missed.

    ——————————————————

Is that on the OC or QB?

Doesn’t the play call have something to do with the reads?

    $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

    Jhill

The QB will receive from the OC a play, based on the other teams defense, he can check-out and either audible to the same play, (different side) or run a different play.

The QB pre snap read is crucial, if a WR is going to be doubled your read should be to the single covered WR, or look to another option, like TE. The QB must scan the field, to see how the defense reacts, to a play or pattern, and the QB must go to the WR, or TE or back with the ball.

To your question, the QB must look to one or more receivers in a pass play.

    J,

X-mas eve was the whole 13 fish, Italian credence to the Apostles nonsense. Lobster, shrimp, clams, mussels all that stuff on some linguini. Similar to ciopino. Best part was the homemade cannoli’s afterwards.

X-mas was the baked ziti and braciole. Braciole is a sicilian style, thinly cut flank steak, stuffed with bread crumps and other factors of awesomeness.

If you don’t know, you better ask somebody. Giada has nothing on this.

  • 504 Raider

I told you guys this last year about Routt. When Nnamdi is inactive for a game, we usually win the game. Of our 5 wins last year If I’m not mistaken, Nnamdi missed two of them. And remember the final two games of 08 vs Texans and Bucs that Got Cable the job, Nnamdi missed those as well.

In games Nnamdi misses, Routt takes that side vacated by Nnamdi and does really well.

If Al can’t somehow trade up to draft Pat Peterson of LSU in 1st round, or bring in FAs Champ Bailey or Jonathan Joseph, then we should stick with Routt.

The Nickle spot hopefully should be won by Walter McFadden because he’s shifty and can cover. We build depth from there. Chris Johnson is a goner mostly because of combination of salary vs production.

  • bcz24

They may move CJ to FS if Huff leaves. I think he could have 8-10 INTs from that position. If not, Branch will be FS and Mitchell will be SS

There is absolutely nothing Safe about Chris Johnson playing safety.

  • YoungAmerican

Priority in FA has to be the right side of the o-line. Sign FA RG Harvey Dahl and RT Ryan Harris.

If the coaching staff were sold on Bruce Campbell, he would have been active more than once or twice this season. Assuming he’s on the team next year, keep him active has a backup guard and swing tackle and see what he can do. If it doesn’t pan out, then no problem, he was only a 4th round pick.

  • 504 Raider

I’ve seen Huff come up with some pretty impressive hits/tackles this season on much bigger guys.

CJ making those same plays? Happen Not Gonna.

Raiders need to make a run at Jonathan Joseph in free agency, and if that doesn’t work out they should draft a corner. It’s one of the few positions in this year’s draft that is deep. Brandon Burton from Utah, Curtis Brown from Texas, and Davon House from New Mexico State would all make sense for the Raiders.

  • 504 Raider

If Dahl and or Harris plays for ATL then from what the commentators said last night one was undrafted or both was and I think the other was a low round pick.

If that is the case, those guys will show an unbelieveable amount of Loyalty to Mike Smith and Arthur Blank.

  • YoungAmerican

Huff should stay. He hasn’t lived up to his draft status and gives up a big play here and there, but I find it hard to believe that another guy is going to come in off the street and be able to hold up with the kind of responsibility the Raiders put on their FS.

The Raiders should attempt to sign Huff, and keep Stevie Brown waiting in the wings for at least another season.

If Huff opts to leave, sign FA FS Jarrad Page and let him compete with Brown for the starting FS spot.

Branch and Mitchell are not “center field” type players. It would be disastrous to plug one of them in at FS.

  • J Hill

To your question, the QB must look to one or more receivers in a pass play.

    —————————————————–

    Ideally, I’d agree with that.

I think that is where being in the system and knowing your WRs and whatnot come into play.

But it seems to me that there is an initial read that they play calls for with Hue. I see a lot of screens and underneath routes for Miller.

You’re suggesting that Campbell should check out of that and targer a WR.

I’m suggesting that the inital play should be called for a WR. Like DHB was hot this weekend and we saw no effort to get him involved by the OC, IMO. I agree with you that I wish the QB was far enough along to audible to those plays or maybe switch the primary receiver in the route from Miller to DHB.

  • YoungAmerican

    ————

    That is indeed very possible.

Another option at RG could be the Saints’ Carl Nicks.

  • RaiderRockstar

    if we beat KC …

    Cable stays & Lal stays

the first 2 draft picks (in Rounds 2 & 3) will be CB and WR

then TC will take a few project OL in the later rounds for competition or depth

Leinart & Frye will both be signed for the vet minimum and compete for the #2 spot behind Jason Campbell

  • J Hill

    and other factors of awesomeness.

    ***

Nicks made the Vikings Pat Williams look like Terdell Sands on WK1 this season!

  • YoungAmerican

Ryan Harris is from Denver, though, and will probably want out if at all possible. He’s a very good ZBS RT.

  • YoungAmerican

Nicks is a very good player, and the Saints are already paying a lot of money for LG Jahri Evans, who is probably the best OG in the game.

  • ArmChair GM

Post # 44 will not get the job done. We need to make several more changes than that.

That is a comment from a ex bartender or Financial guy.

    Or Madoff’s son’s.

  • YoungAmerican

I wish there were more options for the Raiders at C, but Satele has improved over the course of the season and has shown the ability to get downfield and be a mauler in the run game.

With upgrades to RG and RT, it’s conceivable that his pass blocking will improve as well.

  • 504 Raider

Now Carl Nicks is a beast. To me he is the best lineman on the Saints. He was a 5th rounder from Nebraska. Dude is a mauler. I would love to be able to get him but the Saints are real high on him. His rookie year their O-Line was loaded with depth and he was a guy by the middle of training camp labled as “untouchable.”

Zach Strief is probably more of a possibility to obtain than Nicks.

  • RaiderRockstar

    Dell,

who would you rather trust as top executives?

    Andrew & Mark Madoff
    or
Amy Trask & John Herrera ???

  • YoungAmerican

The Saints have a bunch of FAs though, and money will talk.

  • 504 Raider

I thought Bruce Campbell was going to be our RG next year. I would pair him over there with Langston Walker on the right side and flip flop them in Camp to see which combo is more effective. We can get a center in FA or the draft. I see our top 3 picks being skill position guys. QB, CB, WR in no particular order.

  • YoungAmerican

Alex Linnenkohl is probably the best C available to the Raiders in the draft, and at this point he would be a lateral move from Satele. Not a whole lot of options at C in free agency, unless you want to take a chance on Jake Grove being able to stay healthy for an entire season.

Not sure where Campbell getting penned in as a Day 1 starter comes from, considering he hasn’t been active for about 90% of the season.

  • J Hill

    JFB,

No thoughts on Matt Ryan last night?

Trust is to strong of a word, or is it a behavior of some who exercise it with intent to deceive.

To answer your question, Madoff son’s have been exposed, I have no clue about trask or Herrera.

I do know Herrera, is a wimp and I’ve seen many types like him. Power position, with no purpose.

    ———

That’s pretty much what I was saying above. Satele can run block, but he always seems to have guys running by him or through him on passing plays. With upgraded RG and RT positions, my money is on that happening a whole lot less.

  • J Hill

More Cabes: “we had 17 carries at running back, and that’s just not enough. At the same time you can’t really argue, did we do it enough or not? We weren’t blocking it well enough”

  • RaiderRockstar

    Dell,

I wouldn’t trust Trask & Herrera to run a bait shop.

an NFL franchise is out of the question!

  • Raider Dell

    RRS

Speaking of bait, my neighbor knows a dude who has a shrimp farm, and sells throughout the U.S.

I was told he receives a great amount of $ money for shrimp, is that true? Is shrimp expensive for fishing.

  • J Hill

    Have we fired Cable yet?

Needed to win 4 in a row to have a chance at the playoffs and have started off losing 2 outta those 3.

I’m not sure we have won ANY crucial games this year!

  • YoungAmerican

I’d be a lot more comfortable with Cable not coming back if I knew there was a legitimate coach who wanted to come to Oakland.

  • J Hill

What do you mean by legitimate coach?

Why would a “legitimate” coach take the Dallas job but not the Oakland job?

  • YoungAmerican

Last I checked, there wasn’t a large faction of coaches throughout the league advising people to not come to Dallas.

A legitimate coach is someone who brings his own ideas to the table, and wants to be able to work with the organization to bring in the personnel and coaches that will help him execute those ideas.

  • hwnrdr

Haha…just heard that Rob Ryan has a shot to get the Niners HC job…

  • J Hill

I just think that is media propoganda.

No, Al won’t give TOTAL control to some rookie HC who hasn’t proven himself, and he shouldn’t.

But Hue Jackson is running his own plays and so is Marshall.

Cable wanted a new QB, Al tried to get McNabb and settled for JC. Wanted a new MLB drafted McClain for him. Also drafted the LT Cable wanted.

Unlike Bud Adams, allows the HC to bench the starting QB.

  • J Hill

I’d take Rob Ryan over Cable!

  • YoungAmerican

I think history clearly shows it isn’t media propaganda.

Cable, Hue and Marshall got their jobs because they were willing to work within Al’s system.

  • J Hill

I think Al is ready for some “legitimate” help. Forget the past, what have you seen the past few years?

Hue and Marshall are doing what THEY want to do. There is no denying that.
